Mila’s POV “What do we have here?” The rogue said as he pulled the car door open, and I looked around the front seat of the car, trying to find anything that I could use to defend myself, but Beta Ryker’s car had to be one of the cleanest cars I had ever seen, and there was nothing I could use to my advantage. As the man reached into the car to grab ahold of me, thankfully I still had my seatbelt on and as he pulled on my body, he was unable to remove me from the car. I turned at that moment, just enough in my seat to kick him in hopes of pushing him away enough that I could shut and lock the door. But as I kicked him, I realized that I didn’t pack much punch to my kick as Beta Ryker had said earlier, because I wasn’t strong enough to take on someone bigger than myself. The only thing that the kick to the rogue’s leg managed to do was upset him, as he once again reached into the car for me, but this time grabbing me by the nape of my nec
Mila’s POV My hands instantly began to tremble, as they let go of the walking stick, now protruding out of the rogue’s chest, while blood began to seep heavily from it. His blood now coated his clothes and began to run to the floor beneath him, and my eyes moved up to his eyes, as I watched the life within them leave. Slowly, I began to take a step back from him, while my whole body began to shake in fear, as I realized what I had done. It was the first time I had taken a life, and I honestly didn’t like what I was feeling right now, even though I knew it was going to be me or him dead in the end. A scream now filled the air around me, and I didn’t know where it was coming from, as I now stood there in shock, staring at the rogue slumped forward, with the walking stick holding him in the air like a stake. My eyes at that moment moved down to my trembling hands, knowing that they were responsible for the sight now before me.
Mila’s POV “I’m sorry.” He said as he pulled back from me, but he had nothing to be sorry about. I was the one that was sorry, because I was the one that had been broken to the point that I honestly right now didn’t know if I could allow myself to feel wanted by someone, in the fear that something bad would happen to them. Everyone that I had loved was now gone, and I was no longer a free person, but the property of Alpha Gunner’s. The last thing that I wanted to do was to bring harm to the one person that has shown me compassion since I had been purchased. “Please don’t say that.” I said to him, making him turn back around to look at me, before I admit to him, “I don’t want to see anything bad happen to you, because of me.” “Nothing is going to happen to me, because of you.” He now said to me, as he took a step towards me, once again raising his hand to the side of my uninfected cheek. I closed my eyes fo
Mila’s POV Standing there I must have looked like a deer in headlights, while I looked at Alpha Gunner sitting on my bed, as if he had been waiting for a while for me. By the look in his eyes, it was clear that he knew something, but the question was, what exactly did he know. “Where have you been?” He asks me as he moves to stand up from the bed, and begins to walk towards me, making me back myself up to the wall behind me, as fear begins to consume me that I was busted, not just for leaving the house but also for the death of the rogue. Playing stupid, not wanting to get Beta Ryker in trouble, or myself, I ask him, “What do you mean?” Alpha Gunner was on me before I knew it, as his hand moves to the wall beside my head with a thud, pinning me between him and the wall, while he looks me in the eyes, and says, “Don’t play games with me, because you aren’t going to like the consequences.” I swallowed hard a
Mila’s POV I had dodged a bullet changing the conversation with Alpha Gunner, but by doing so, I now felt worse than I would have if I had just told him what had happened. Seeing the hurt that I had caused him somehow was weighing heavily on my heart, and even though I shouldn’t feel that way being his slave, it bothered me. Standing under the showerhead, with the water as hot as my flesh could take it, I tried to wash away everything that happened today, but there wasn’t enough soap or hot water in this world that could wash away the horrible imprint now haunting my mind. I had come to terms with the life of the rogue that I had taken, because I knew the harm he meant to do to me, but the sight of his life leaving his eyes would forever haunt me. Plus, I could still feel his hands wrapped around my neck, as all my muscles were now tight, and I was sure this too was going to leave a mark, but at least my hair would be able to cover it until it healed.
Mila’s POV When morning came, my neck was so stiff that it brought instant tears to my eyes, and I found it hard to even get out of bed, but I knew if I missed breakfast that Alpha Gunner would come looking for me. Carefully, I got dressed in the clothes that Beta Ryker had purchased for me, but along with the sports bra, I found a baggy tee shirt to wear over it and let my hair cascade down over my shoulders and neck, in the hopes of hiding the bruise that was now predominantly showing. Thankfully, when I made my way downstairs and to the dining room, Alpha Gunner was on his way out, and he looked like he was engaged on a phone call, only paying enough attention to see that I was present, before he disappeared down the hallway that led to his office. My attention then turned on finding Beta Ryker, knowing that I needed to speak to him about training today, seeing that I wasn’t moving quite so well after what happened yesterday.Actually, I was hoping t
Mila’s POV His eyes immediately landed on me, and I felt my heart instantly begin to pound in my chest, as I just stood there staring back at him, frozen in fear, knowing that he could find out now that I had deceived him by finding me here.Thankfully, the pack doctor calls out, “Alpha what can I do for you on this fine morning?” Breaking the hold, he had on me with his stare, as I looked back over my shoulder at the pack doctor now moving towards us, trying to hold the wince of pain inside from doing so.Alpha Gunner cleared his throat, as if see me had affected him too, before he says to the pack doctor, “My trackers believe they have found where they took Trina.”“That’s great news.” The pack doctor says to him, with a questioning look on his face, before Alpha Gunner then says to him, “We believe she too has been poisoned, and I am going to need you to come with me.”“I’m coming too.” I said to Alpha Gunner, as I turned to look at him, not wanting to stay here alo
Mila’s POV “There you are.” Beta Ryker said to me, as I walked alongside the pack doctor towards the front door where we were to meet Alpha Gunner.Instead of stopping I continued to walk past him, ignoring him, not really wanting to engage in a conversation with him, after what I had witnessed in the dining room moments ago. Plus, Alpha Gunner said to keep to ourselves about what we were about to do, and I didn’t want him asking me any questions on where I was heading.“Mila, wait.” He now said walking behind me, and I wanted to keep walking, but the pack doctor stopped in front of me, forcing me to stop too.Turning the pack doctor looked at Beta Ryker, and by the look on his face, I knew what he was about to say wasn’t going to be good. “Mila will not be needing your services for the next couple of days. She is to rest from her injuries she sustained training with you.”My shoulders instantly cringed, as I slowly turned to look at him, knowing he wasn’t going to be
Mila’s POV Deciding against dinner, I laid down on my bed, and pulled out the book I had been reading, but quickly decided against it, as my eyes were tired from all the reading I had already done today. Something within me felt restless, and I don’t know if it was because my wolf was coming soon, along with the full moon, or if it was what the pack doctor had said to me.Either way, I found myself feeling antsy, as I began to pace the room, angry at myself for allowing this situation to deter me from just going to the dining room to meet Trina, scared of what they might do to me or my food. Back home, I would never have allowed myself to feel so insignificant and vulnerable like this, but here I found myself worried constantly that someone was out to get me. Light was fading quickly outside, as fall was slowly creeping up on us, and I couldn’t help but feel sadness in my heart, knowing that the holidays were coming. The realization was hitting me hard that I would h
Mila’s POV Finishing the last file Alpha Gunner had given me, I stood and moved to his desk with the stack of them, making him look up from his own work, as I say to him, “I have finished all the files and requests you have given me for the day.” As I handed them to him, hoping that he would dismiss me for the day, because I wanted to pay the pack doctor a visit before I headed to dinner with Trina. Alpha Gunner took the files from my hand, sitting them to the side on his desk, before he surprisingly said to me, “Good work today, Mila. It is clear that helping your father has taught you a thing or two about pack business, and you will be an asset to me here in my office.” A part of me was elated to finally hear him give me a compliment for the work that I had done today, but another part of me was hurting hearing him call me an asset, as it made me feel like a piece of property to him, which I was. Nevertheless, it was a compliment, espe
Mila’s POV Stepping forward, I introduced myself to Sharon and explained to her that I was the one who had gone over her request, but that I had a few questions to ask her. Thankfully, she wasn’t like her kitchen staff, and greeted me with a warm smile, offering Alpha Gunner and me to take a seat. Once seated, I opened the file with her request, and began to go over the numbers with her, as Alpha Gunner sat there in silence. It wasn’t until I got to the question of whether there were recently more pack members added that he opened his mouth, by saying that there weren’t any new mouths to feed, making me realize that he had been listening carefully to our conversation. “That is what I am not understanding, where all the food is going.” Sharon now says, as if trying to defend herself, and I can tell that she is just at a loss what is happening as I was. Alpha Gunner at that moment got to his feet, as he looked at Sharon, be
Mila’s POV It didn’t take long for me to find myself lost in the stack of files, as I sat at the small table in Alpha Gunner’s office, while he too worked on a stack that he deemed too important for me to touch. The stack that he had given me consisted of pack normal business, and it didn’t take half a brain to be able to deal with the issues at hand, making me able to fly through most of them without a hitch. But one file in particular was throwing me off, and I must have read it over a hundred times, trying to piece together why there was such an influx recently with the grocery bills. The chart that was attached to the file from the head chef of the house was asking for more money allotted for the groceries to feed the pack, explaining that the stock was not lasting as it used to, making me wonder if there had been added members of the pack to feed within the past couple of months. Needing to know this information to be able to approv
Mila’s POV Excusing myself, I headed back to the dining room, to where Trina was patiently waiting for me, as I grabbed a plate of food before moving to take a seat next to her. “So, what did Alpha Gunner want?” Trina asks me before my butt even hits the seat, clearly worried that our plan was a no go, which in a way it was, but in another way, it still was on. Grabbing my fork, I looked down at my plate wondering how I could explain to her what just transpired between Alpha Gunner and myself. To be honest, I really don’t know how we easily came to an agreement, especially since the last conversation we had didn’t go so well, with me disobeying him.The only thing I could think of was that he had time to cool off, and I had been behaving for the past week. Either way, he was allowing me some freedom without a fight, and I was going to take it, because it was my safest bet to remain safe but also to be able to mingle among the pack members.Placing my fo
Mila’s POV It had been over a week since I had locked myself in my room, but today was the day that I was finally going to come out of hiding with the help and support of Trina. I know that Alpha Gunner wanted me to willingly stay in my room, but if I was to find the she wolf that was involved with all of this within the pack, I needed to face my fears. As Trina and I walked into the dining room for breakfast side by side, all eyes at that moment turned to look at us, and I found myself scanning the room, looking at each and every blonde haired she wolf present, wondering if one of them could be the she wolf I was looking for. My heart at that moment began to race in anticipation, as they all stared right back at me, and for a moment I thought about turning back around and locking myself back in my bedroom.Trina at that moment must have felt my anxiety, and she took a hold of my hand, pulling me from being lost in my head, making me look over at her, b
Mila’s POV “What do you mean by you saw something?” Trina now asks me, giving me her full attention, as she slid forward, sitting on the edge of her seat, waiting for me to answer her. Looking at her, I knew there was no going back, and I had to tell her what I had seen, and the conversation that I had with the she wolf. Swallowing hard, before I took a deep breath, I finally say to her, “The reason I disobeyed Alpha Gunner was because I saw someone running from the warehouse. I know it was stupid of me to take off after her, but I thought that if she was running then she was the one that knew who was behind all of this.” “Wait, you said she. I was only informed that you were attacked by male rogues.” Trina says to me, and I realize that Alpha Gunner must have informed her about what happened to me, or at least what he had seen and witnessed. Shaking my head, I say to her, “No, there was a she wolf too, and she was the or
Mila’s POV “Have you lost your damn mind? What would make you think that?” I asked Trina, shocked that she would even think that, as I stood from my chair, trying not to laugh at her, as I knew that my ribs couldn’t take it. “No, I haven’t lost my mind. If anything, I am seeing things more clearly now. Why else would he have asked me to look after you?” She now says to me, making me turn around, from my pacing to look at her, after her confession to me. “He asked you to look after me? But I thought that he instilled that duty to Beta Ryker.” I questioned her, as I continued to look at her, confused, wondering how many other members of the pack that he had asked to watch my every move. “Well yes, I thought you knew that, especially when he asked me to take you to training.” She now says to me, and I remember back to that day, and how she wasn’t happy at first about it, making me still wonder if there was something going on
Mila’s POV Days passed by as I began to heal, and my nights and days began to run together, as I stayed in my room, locked away from the outside world. My only interaction throughout the day was an elderly she wolf that brought my meals to me, and a new book to read when I ask for one. Other than that, I was imprisoned once again, but this time the door was locked from the inside instead of the outside. On day three, the pack doctor paid me a visit, and thankfully his wounds were healed, but that didn’t change the fact that I had been responsible for him receiving those wounds. I must have apologized to him a hundred times during his visit with me, but he simply kept saying to me, “What is done is done, and we can’t take back the past.” Making me wonder if he truly forgave me, or if I had lost his confidence in me being a good person. A week into my imprisonment, there was a knock on my door, and I hesitated for a few seconds, as I knew
