Mila’s POV When morning came, my neck was so stiff that it brought instant tears to my eyes, and I found it hard to even get out of bed, but I knew if I missed breakfast that Alpha Gunner would come looking for me. Carefully, I got dressed in the clothes that Beta Ryker had purchased for me, but along with the sports bra, I found a baggy tee shirt to wear over it and let my hair cascade down over my shoulders and neck, in the hopes of hiding the bruise that was now predominantly showing. Thankfully, when I made my way downstairs and to the dining room, Alpha Gunner was on his way out, and he looked like he was engaged on a phone call, only paying enough attention to see that I was present, before he disappeared down the hallway that led to his office. My attention then turned on finding Beta Ryker, knowing that I needed to speak to him about training today, seeing that I wasn’t moving quite so well after what happened yesterday.Actually, I was hoping t
Mila’s POV His eyes immediately landed on me, and I felt my heart instantly begin to pound in my chest, as I just stood there staring back at him, frozen in fear, knowing that he could find out now that I had deceived him by finding me here.Thankfully, the pack doctor calls out, “Alpha what can I do for you on this fine morning?” Breaking the hold, he had on me with his stare, as I looked back over my shoulder at the pack doctor now moving towards us, trying to hold the wince of pain inside from doing so.Alpha Gunner cleared his throat, as if see me had affected him too, before he says to the pack doctor, “My trackers believe they have found where they took Trina.”“That’s great news.” The pack doctor says to him, with a questioning look on his face, before Alpha Gunner then says to him, “We believe she too has been poisoned, and I am going to need you to come with me.”“I’m coming too.” I said to Alpha Gunner, as I turned to look at him, not wanting to stay here alo
Mila’s POV “There you are.” Beta Ryker said to me, as I walked alongside the pack doctor towards the front door where we were to meet Alpha Gunner.Instead of stopping I continued to walk past him, ignoring him, not really wanting to engage in a conversation with him, after what I had witnessed in the dining room moments ago. Plus, Alpha Gunner said to keep to ourselves about what we were about to do, and I didn’t want him asking me any questions on where I was heading.“Mila, wait.” He now said walking behind me, and I wanted to keep walking, but the pack doctor stopped in front of me, forcing me to stop too.Turning the pack doctor looked at Beta Ryker, and by the look on his face, I knew what he was about to say wasn’t going to be good. “Mila will not be needing your services for the next couple of days. She is to rest from her injuries she sustained training with you.”My shoulders instantly cringed, as I slowly turned to look at him, knowing he wasn’t going to be
Mila’s POV The SUV came to a stop outside of what looked like an old abandon warehouse that was bordering a shipping yard. Thankfully it was daylight outside, because if we had rolled up here at night, I might have been questioning my demand to come along. But as we sat there in the SUV, I began to wonder why Alpha Gunner was attacking during the day, in broad daylight, or if this wasn’t where she was being held, and we were just biding time waiting here. “Alpha, our scouts have eyes on her. Is it a go?” The man in the front seat asks, and Alpha Gunner with a cool tone says to him, “It’s a go.” “Wait, you’re going to attack during daylight?” Came from my lips before I could stop it, making Alpha Gunner look over at me, with a puzzled look on his face, like I had been questioning his authority, but that wasn’t what I was doing. I was just curious why he would go in announced to all to see him. “Night attacks aren’t my thin
Mila’s POV Upon entering the ship, I was already second guessing my decision, as it was dark as night inside, with little to no windows letting in the daylight. I stood there for a moment inside the door, looking around the interior of the ship, wondering where she had gone to, until I heard a noise, knowing that it had to be the direction she had gone. Cautiously, I headed towards where I had heard the noise come from, while I took in my surroundings not wanting to be blindsided, as I wasn’t going to take this she wolf as a fool, since she was able to escape Alpha Gunner and his men. Making my way further into the ship, I heard the door behind me being opened and I was sure that it was the pack doctor catching up to me. Another sound now came from in front of me, and I found myself moving towards it at a faster pace, not wanting the pack doctor to catch me before I found the she wolf that took off. An open door now lay in front of me, a
Mila’s POV The wrench hit hard acrost the rogue’s head with a loud thud, and his hands that were once tightly fastened around me let loose, as his head flew to the side, while his body stumbled back from me, opening a straight path to the door. I only hesitated for a second to take off towards it, but that one little second was all that the rogue needed to get his bearings, as his hands once again grabbed ahold of me, this time by the back of my neck, making me cry out in pain from my previous injury. Tears instantly began to pool in my eyes, as his grip on my neck tightened, and I couldn’t hold the tears from falling from the corners of my eyes, while a scream of pain came from my lips. With the wrench still in my hand, I tried to swing it back at him, but his other hand grabbed it from my hand and tossed it to the floor, making a loud clinging sound as it hit. A growl now radiated from him, before he spun me around and said, “You are g
Mila’s POV My eyes opened, and I took in a deep breath, like it was the first breath I had ever taken, as my hands move to my neck, and I sat up straight, while I began to cough, and more pain resonated in my chest. Pain then rushed throughout my entire body, as tears fell from my eyes, as I wondered if this is what death felt like. The dew from the tears now coated my eyes as I tried to focus on my surroundings, while a figure rushed in my direction, as fear began to consume me, that I was in the hands of the enemy. The color white blinded me, telling me that I had to be in an infirmary, but whose infirmary I was in was now the question. Hands now touched my chest gently, as my eyes looked up at the figure that had rushed to me. “You must take it easy. Please, lay back down. You are safe now.” Came from the figure’s lips, in an angelic tone, telling me that I just may have died, and this was the afterlife, but as I went to do as she sai
Mila’s POV “What the hell were you thinking? You could have gotten yourself killed.” He tells me, as he stares down at me, looking more frustrated than ever with me, but I was beginning to sense everything I do frustrates him. Instead of answering his question, I avoid it by asking him, “Did you save her?” A growl now rumbles from his chest, as he tries to hold it back, but it was clear that he was catching on to my abilities to divert the questions he asks me. “Trina is fine, no thanks to you. The pack doctor was injured by a rogue, trying to catch up to you. You’re lucky that is all the rogue did to him, and he was still able to save her life. What you did was stupid and selfish. You need to learn to think about others before yourself.” He says scolding me, but the truth was, I was thinking about others, before myself.I was trying to stop someone from getting away that could have helped us find the person responsible for all of this,
Mila’s POV An array of emotions at that moment began to flood through me, but I quickly realized those emotions weren’t of my own. It was as if staring into his eyes had opened a gate to the portal to his heart, allowing all his emotions to rush at me at once. His heart that I once thought was so cold and full of darkness, was actually completely the opposite. I can now see that it was all a façade that he maintains, so that no one can see the vulnerable side of him. But right now, his gates were down for me, showing me who really lays under that external hard person, he portrays himself to be to others. There was no doubt in my mind that something really bad had to have happened, for him to hide who he truly is, and something was telling me that something bad had to do with his parents. It was a conversation that the two of us needed to have, but right now, this was our moment in time, and it would have to wait. Now see
Mila’s POV As my lips crashed against his lips, sparks erupted throughout the entirety of my body, as fireworks exploded behind my closed eyes, while the bond between the two of us began to tie itself together. At first, he resisted, but with the bond now humming between us at full force, it didn’t take long for him to give in to its pull. Within seconds, his arms wrapped around me, pulling me even tighter into him, not leaving a fraction of a space between us, as his lips softened and began to move against my own. His tongue now glided acrost my bottom lip, making my lips part slightly, as a moan slowly slipped from my lips, and butterflies began to flutter in my stomach. With my lips now slightly parted, I felt his tongue begging for access, as he now slid it between my parted lips. Unlike the kiss I had shared with Beta Ryker that now felt so forced, this kiss felt so right and natural that I couldn’t help but allow him the access he
Mila’s POV The feeling of the mate bond continues to grow stronger between the two of us, as he carries me now up the stairs to his room, while I continue to lay my head against his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat. If I was being honest with myself, this was the first time since the attack that I have felt safe and secure, and it was crazy to think that it was in the arms of the man that had enslaved me. Thinking back to my first day here, and how I was thinking about ending my life or his own, I now realize there was an invisible force at play, washing those thoughts from my mind. My father used to tell me that everything happens for a reason, and I am now a firm believer in that, but I also believe that our Moon Goddess had a hand in making sure that I was delivered safely to my mate, even if it cost him a million dollars. When we finally got to the top floor, Alpha Gunner stepped into his room, and slowly lowered me to my fe
Mila’s POV Shifting back to his human form, Alpha Gunner closed the distance between us in his human form, as he motioned to someone to get him something. Before I knew it, a pack member was handing him a shirt, and he instantly presented it to me, wanting me to shift back into my human form myself. But as I looked around at all the eyes now on me, I felt a bit uncomfortable. My wolf thankfully could feel my discomfort, so instead of doing as she was asked, she grabbed the shirt from his hands, before taking off behind the nearest building. The shift back into my human form was swift and without an ounce of pain, and I quickly threw the shirt over my head, while I looked around hoping no one seen me. I began to feel nervous, but it wasn’t because I was only in a tee shirt, ready to face the whole entire pack, but because I was going to face Alpha Gunner for the first time since I had gotten my wolf in our human form. This was definitel
Mila’s POV Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to make Beta Ryker pay, but my wolf, she wanted blood. To be honest, she was more fearless than I ever could be, because there was no way in hell, I would think about going against a Beta yet alone take the first strike. It was clear that my wolf took him by surprise, as she easily took him to the ground in his human form, but as soon as the impact of the ground came, he shifted into his own wolf. His wolf wasn’t messing around, as he gave my wolf a hard kick to the ribs, making us fly off him, like we weighed nothing, which compared to the size of his wolf, my wolf probably felt like a feather to him. My body didn’t fly too far, as members of the pack helped stop it, but as I was flying in the air, I heard an all too familiar low growl. As soon as I got my bearings, I turned just in time to see Alpha Gunner shifting into his wolf, and without a second of hesitation, his wolf leaps in the air towar
Mila’s POV Stepping towards him, I stop when I am about a foot away before I say to him, “Look at me, please.” Slowly he raised his head, and those eyes of his that always seemed so cold, now had nothing but sadness in them, something I never thought that I would see in them. The monster that I had portrayed him as being, was clearly not who he was, and I could now see that his rough exterior was a facade. My heart began to break as I stared into his eyes, as if I was feeling the burden of his pain that he carried with him. Reaching, he took my hands in to his own, and now that I had my wolf, I could feel the bond pulsing between the two of us. His eyes now stared intently into my own, and I could see that he was battling his own emotions to speak, but then he swallows hard and says to me, “I know that I have failed you on so many levels, but I swear I was doing it all to protect you. Maybe I am the monster you portrayed me to be, but I
Mila’s POV When the darkness had taken me, I was sure that I was dead and that I would be reunited with my family, but that never happened. Instead, I remained in pure darkness, but conscious enough to begin to hear a familiar voice, making me wonder if I was in a state of dream. As I listened to his voice, wondering what the heck he was saying, I realized quickly that he was reading where I had left off, from the book that I had placed on his bedside table from the night before. As I listened to his voice, something about it became soothing to my ears, and as I continued to listen to him read, I could feel my wolf within me stir, as if his voice was affecting her too. Unable to move or open my eyes, I was now a prisoner to my body, flipping the tables with him, as it was clear that he had made a recovery from the poisoning. What I didn’t understand was why he was here with me now, reading from my book, instead of taking his pack back, or had he already
Gunner’s POV “You’re alive.” Shockingly came from his lips, as his eyes moved to behind me to see Seth and the group of men that he had formed, just in case things went south. There was no telling if Beta Ryker had his men here right now that had betrayed me, and I wasn’t taking any chances that he did.Hell, at this point, there could even be rogues among us, hidden within the pack members standing here now. But I didn’t move my eyes from him, knowing that Seth and my men behind me had my back.“Don’t look so surprised, I am of Alpha’s blood. It’s going to take more than a little silver poisoning to kill me.” I said to him, trying to maintain my poise, as my wolf continued to claw at my insides, wanting to put an end to Beta Ryker’s life for so many reasons, including touching our mate. But I had to put that aside at this moment, because I needed to get my pack back, so that I could ensure Mila’s safety and the rest of my loyal pack members. His eyes at that moment mo
Gunner’s POV All night long, I was on high alert, as I remained watching over Mila, along with Riley in the next-door room, while the pack doctor returned home, not wanting to draw attention to himself or us, by remaining in my room. Beta Ryker needed to continue to think that I was on my death bed until I made my move tomorrow surprising him with my recovery. Thankfully, Mila was healing quickly, but still remained unconscious, and I knew that it wouldn’t be long before she woke from her own induced coma, while her wolf healed her. My body though, was well rested, and I found myself pacing, just like Mila had been doing the previous night, as I knew what tomorrow was to bring, while the fate of not only my pack rested in my hands, but her fate as well. When late morning came, the pack doctor along with his nephew, Seth, knocked on my door, and as the pack doctor checked on Mila, Seth began to tell me that he was successful in ga
