Dawn twisted a strand of hair around her finger as she tried to concentrate on the page she was reading. Unfortunately her thoughts kept going back to the conversation/argument she’d had with Jordan and Daniel. She growled in frustration, throwing her pencil down. Why did they have to come here of all places!
The blackette slammed the book closed, whispering a ‘sorry’ to the nearby student who gave her a dirty look at making too much noise. She popped the book back on the shelf and left the library. “Coffee. I need Coffee”, she mumbled.
While Dawn was trying to slog through her research on the Hook Man, Lena was busy towel drying her hair when Casey came into the room looking very upset. “You ok?" she asked the blonde.
"Not really", Casey replied, sitting down on Lena's bed.
"Let me guess... your dad doesn't think you're safe here", Lena said dumping her wet towel into the laundry basket before coming to sit beside Casey.
"You got it in one", Casey said "I just wish he'd stop treating me like a kid and see that I can take care of myself".
"He will eventually. But you have to understand from his point of view, you are still his little girl and he wants to protect you", Lena said gently “if my dad were here, I’m sure he’d be the same way”.
Casey's face dropped "Lena...I'm so sorry. Here I am complaining about my dad and you've lost yours", she said.
"It's ok Casey. You can complain away for as long as you want", Lena said. While it was true she had lost her dad, it happened when she was a baby. She didn’t really remember him nor her mother very much. She only had stories her godmother had told her about her parents.
"Thanks Lena but I'm pretty tired. I think I'm just going to head to bed", Casey said getting up.
"Ok. Night Casey", Lena said.
"Night", Casey said opening the door. She stepped out and closed it behind her. The moment she was gone Lena picked up her hairdryer and proceeded to dry her hair. Once she was done, she then went over to her drawers where she stashed her grimoire. Lena carefully pulled out the old book and set it on her desk.
The brunette looked through her grimoire until she found the spell she was looking for. Thankfully she had already had the items she needed but as it was late, she decided to do the spell tomorrow. She got up from her desk, went over to the light switch and flicking it off. Lena then hopped into bed. The moment her head hit the pillow, she'd fallen asleep.

While everyone either slept or partied or did some other activity, Tyler was once again by MD’s grave. He removed the tarp the he had covered it with to hide what he had been up to. Tyler relit the candles and took the hook out of the hole. He smirked “time for the party girl to die”, he declared. He was going to enjoy her death way more that Bryce’s. Not that he didn’t like that the young man was dead…he really, really loved that fact. But Shawna…her death he was going to savour even more.
Tyler took a deep breath, holding the hook tightly and recited the spell that he now knew off by heart.

Lena was startled awake by a piercing scream. The brunette scrambled out of bed and dashed out of the room. "What's going on?" Sophie, one of Lena's housemates asked.
"I don't know", Lena replied. She noticed that neither Casey nor Shawna were present. "Casey? Shawna?" she called going to their room and pushing open the door. Casey was sitting on the bed staring across at Shawna's bed, extremely pale. Lena followed her gaze and gasped at the horrific sight before her. Shawna was dead, blood was everywhere. Lena shook herself out of her shock and turned to Casey. "Come on, we need to get out of here", she said. But Casey didn't move. She couldn't. Lena had to literally pull her out of bed and out of the room.

Numb. That’s what Casey felt as she sat in the back of the ambulance, blanket wrapped tightly around her. She couldn’t believe that Shawna was dead. “She didn’t deserve it”, the blonde whispered, dropping her head onto Lena’s shoulder.
“No, she didn’t”, Lena agreed. Her eyes flickered blue as she quietly uttered the comfort spell, just like she did the other day.
The little incantation did the trick as it allowed Casey to explain what happened to the Sherriff without breaking down into tears. It wasn’t long before the Principle came and whisked his daughter away. Before she went, Lena promised that she would stop by the house as soon as she could. Casey gave her a smile, grateful for the brunette’s support.
The moment that Shawna’s body was removed from the building, Lena was allowed back inside. However, she wasn’t going to spend another night in the Sorority House, not after what happened. Though before she vacated the place for several days, she had something she needed to do. Then she was going to crash at Dawn’s room, at least she hoped she’d be able to.
The brunette hurried up the stairs, going to her room to freshen up. The young woman stood under the shower, the warm water mingling with her tears as she cried for her friend. Eventually she managed to pull herself together enough so she could complete her shower. She dried off and got dressed in blue jeans, white vest and a burgundy cardigan. Lena then opened up her box of ‘witch stuff’ and took a few items out. She set them out on the desk. She had a lot of work to do if she wanted to keep Casey safe from the killer, that judging by the bloody hook she’d seen embedded in the wall by Shawna’s bed, was a Hook Man. She can thank Lillian for knowing who that was. Alongside teaching her magic, her godmother taught about the different supernatural beings that were in the world.
Lena doubted that it was an actual man, it was more likely to be a vengeful spirit. Which was why she was making the protection bracelet to keep Casey safe against ghosts. She glanced at the silver band around her wrist thankful that her godmother had turned the power down enough so that she would be able to create the piece of jewellery.
Lillian had put it on her when she had accidently set fire to the curtains at the age of 4. To be fair, she’d only lost control as she was thinking about her parents. Over the years her godmother had lessened its suppressive power on her while she taught her the ways of their people and of white magic. It could probably come off now but she wanted to keep it on for a little longer while she was still in education. She didn’t want to risk potentially loosing control and accidently exposing what she was to the humans. Once she graduated then she would get her godmother to remove the bracelet, therefore enabling her to tap into her full potential as a white witch.
The young woman took a breath, flexing her fingers before she began the intricate work on the bracelet for Casey. Half an hour and a few sore fingers later, she’d completed the piece of jewellery. Now that it was done, she decided to put a little something in her journal. She took it out and began to write.
Bryce is dead. Shawna had just been murdered. And the culprit is supposedly a vengeful spirit. But why now? Why them?
Did someone summon the Hook Man? If so, why would they do that? Raising spirits is a dangerous venture so I hope whomever was responsible knows that they’re doing as it can go horribly wrong. Actually I really hope they DON’T know what they’re doing. They deserve the consequences for killing both Bryce and Shawna.
Lena glanced at the bracelet for Casey.
I pray that the bracelet I made for Casey will be enough to keep her safe.
The brunette put her pen down, closed up the journal and tucked it into her bag. She then gathered up a handful of clothes, stuffing them into her bag a well. Lena shouldered it and left the room, heading for Dawn’s dorm. Well, she had one stop to make first: Casey’s dad’s house.
When she arrived the Principle’s home however, she heard raised voices coming from inside. Deciding that it was better to come back at another time, Lena left the bracelet on the porch next to a potted plant with a short note addressed to Casey.

“Hey, sorry I’m late”, Dawn said to Lena as she quickly approached the door to her bedroom at her dorm “I’ve literally woken up from pulling an all-nighter….” She trialled off when she saw the upset look on the brunette’s face “what’s wrong?” Lena’s face crumpled “hey, what happened?”
“S-Shawna…is dead!” the young adult sobbed.
“Oh, I’m so sorry”, Dawn said, her heart going out to her. She quickly unlocked the door and ushered Lena inside. The witch sat her friend down onto the bed, comforting her while she cried. Eventually the brunette managed to pull herself together in order to tell Dawn everything that had happened.
The blackette sat there, listening to what she was saying. As Lena continued, Dawn grew even more angry. She needed to find Drummond’s grave and fast! Which incidentally she had almost done when Lena called to ask if she could stay for a few nights. “This thing, whatever it is, needs to be found and stopped before someone else dies”, Lena declared and then clapped a hand over her mouth when she hiccupped.
“I think I know what it is”, Dawn said slowly “a vengeful spirit”.
Lena sighed “thought it might be”, she admitted.
Dawn frowned at her “wait, you knew?” she asked, astounded “how?”
The blackette was aware at how open minded Lena was but she didn’t think that she would go as far as to place the blame on it for Bryce and Shawna’s deaths. “My godmother told me all about different supernatural things, including ghosts”, the brunette explained “she’s an occult professor. Anyway, when I saw the hook in the wall…it made me think of the Hook Man legend. So I guessed it was a ghost”.
“Huh”, Dawn said. You learn something new every day she thought, still very much surprised by the young woman.
“So, do you know who the ghost killer is?” Lena questioned, eager to know the answer. If Dawn was aware then she needed to know so that the remains could be destroyed before the spirit could claim another life.
“Mathew Drummond”, Dawn answered “and I nearly found out where he was buried before you called”.
Lena sat up “well, what are we waiting for? Let’s get researching!” she proclaimed, jumping off of Dawn’s bed. She dragged the teen up and pulled her towards the door, eager to get started.
~0~
“Holy, crap. This is going to take a while”, Lena remarked, eyeing the stack of books and files that Dawn had discovered the night before which she hadn’t yet put away.
“Better get started then”, Dawn said, sitting down and grabbing the nearest book. Lena took the other seat, chose a file to read and got started.
“I think you might have to read this one now”, Lena said to Dawn, a couple of hours later, pushing away the file she’d been skimming through “all these words are starting to blur together”.“Theres no need”, Dawn said looking up from the page she had been reading “I know where Mathew Drummond is buried”.
“Where?” Lena asked, leaning over to read the paper.
“’Ravenhill Cemetery’”, Dawn read aloud “’In a grave marked with his initials MD’”.
“That’s it?” Lena questioned “there aren’t any other markings or writing on it?”
“I’m afraid not”, Dawn answered. She looked up at her friend “you didn’t think it was going to be easy, did you?” she teased.
Lena grinned back “for a moment there, I kinda did”, she playfully countered.
“Come on, Lena”, Dawn stood up “let’s go burn a body…” she stopped and burst out laughing “now there’s something I didn’t think I would say”.
“Given who we are, it’s not exactly the weirdest thing you’ve said”, Lena said, also getting up “remember that conversation about raising Gremlins and sea monkey races?” she asked, with amusement in her voice.
The blackette laughed even harder at that “oh man, that was hilarious!” she proclaimed “how did we get there? I don’t remember”.
Lena shrugged “Not sure. It just happened”, she said “we’re just whacky, I guess”.
Dawn grinned at her “that we are”, she agreed. She gathered up the files, stacking them up neatly for the librarian to put away. The two of them left the building and Lena drove them to the Cemetery to go find the grave of the Hook Man.
“You know, this is kinda thrilling”, the brunette admitted as they walked past the headstones carrying shovels, keeping their eyes out for one marked with MD. “Yeah it is”, Dawn agreed. This would be her first ever salt n burn. Her half-brothers and father never allowed her to tag along when they had to do stuff like this. She was able to do the research and of course cast spells if anything needed to be located or a creature needed to be found. Plus she had to put up wards in their motel rooms so that they were protected. So, yes, she was quite excited to be able to do this herself.“Maybe we should split up, cover more ground”, Lena suggested.“Good idea”, Dawn agreed “holler if you find it”.“Will do”, Lena promised and headed off in a different direction. She strolled through the graveyard, glancing from stone to stone, searching for MD. The young witch stopped when she saw a gravestone with a name of McKenzie. Dawn eyed her roommate she typed away on her laptop while she herself lounged on her bed “Are you ever going to take a break?” she asked the brunette.“I will once I get this assignment finished”, Lena replied.“You’ve been working on it solidly for the past two days”, Dawn reminded her “you can afford to take an hour to relax”.“Not when I’m on a roll Dawnie”, Lena countered.“Ok then”, Dawn said, getting up from the bed. She quietly crept over to her friend’s desk and grabbed Lena’s wheelie chair.“Hey!” the witch protested when the blackette pulled it away with her still on it. Lena tried to keep a hold of her desk but it only served to make her fall off the chair, she landed on the floor with a thump.“Are you ok?” Dawn asked, looking at the young adult laying on the floor worriedly. She’d only wanted to get Lena to take a break, not hurt her.“I’m good Dawnie”, the twenty two year old answered “and I get your not so subtle hint” she got up from the floor “I’ll take a break now”.“

Lena and Dawn’s reading time was interrupted by the former’s phone ringing. The brunette glanced at the caller ID and saw that it was Casey. It looked like she wanted to be picked up from her date. Lena barely got a chance to say anything when she answered the phone as Casey started babbling the moment she picked up. "Casey calm down", Lena said cutting off her friend who sounded rather hysterical "what's happened?"She heard Casey take a breath over the phone and listened as her friend told her everything again, at a much slower pace than before.
