Chapter 78

Mia’s Pov

When I regained consciousness, something was different. The throbbing pain that had dulled my senses for days had lessened, my mind sharper than it had been in what felt like forever. My body still ached, but the overwhelming, suffocating pain that had been my constant companion had faded to a dull throb.

‘Maybe they lessened the drugs?’ I thought, cautiously flexing my fingers and wiggling my toes, testing the sensation in my limbs. There was still a stiffness in my muscles, a reminder of how long I’d been tied down, but for the first time in days, I felt something that resembled clarity.

‘They haven’t drugged us for the last two days,’ my wolf whispered, her voice clearer than it had been in so long that I almost forgot what it felt like to hear her. ‘That’s why you’re feeling better.’

The realization sent a shiver down my spine. They hadn’t drugged me. That should’ve been a relief, a sign that maybe things were getting better, that maybe I’d get out of here. But instead
