Edwina

A sharp chime slices through the silence of my penthouse, rousing me from sleep. I groan, burying my face into the pillow, wishing the visitor—whoever the hell they were—would vanish. The bell rings again, more insistent this time.

Dragging myself out of bed, I make my way downstairs, barely awake as I swing the door open. My breath catches in my throat when I see who’s standing there—Raffaele dressed impeccably in a dark suit, his usual air of dominance unwavering.

“What the fuck?” I whisper to myself as he brushes past me like he owns the place.

“Good morning to you too, Tesoro,” he murmurs, voice smooth and deep.

I shut the door behind him, frowning. After what happened last night, I didn’t expect to see him. Not so soon, at least.

“What do you want, Raffaele?” I ask, arms crossed. He pins me with an unreadable stare before replying.

“There’s something we need to discuss.”

I sigh, rubbing my temples. “Couldn’t we have done this somewhere else? I look like shit.” I gesture at

~Edwina~“Tesoro.”Raffaele’s voice is sharp and controlled, breaking the silence of the penthouse kitchen where I sit, absentmindedly tracing patterns on the cool marble countertop.I exhale slowly, unwilling to meet his gaze. “What?” My tone is clipped, my annoyance barely concealed. His jaw tightens. “You can use my room for the nights you'll be staying here.”I scoff. “Thanks, but I prefer my own space.” My words drip with defiance, but he only arches a brow, clearly unfazed.“That shouldn’t be a problem. I have a lot of work to do.”I roll my eyes. “I’m sure you do.”Without another word, he turns and walks away, leaving me with my thoughts. A small part of me wants to call him back, to demand a real conversation instead of this frustrating game of evasion. But pride holds me still. Why should I be the one to bridge the distance? He was the one being impossible.I sigh, pushing myself up from the island, deciding to take a shower before bed. The path to his room is familiar, every

Raffaele"Sorry, but I enjoy my personal space," Edwina says coolly, her glare sharp enough to cut through steel. She sits on the kitchen island, arms crossed, exuding defiance.I shoot my expression, keeping my voice neutral as I respond, "That shouldn't be a problem. I have a lot of work to do.""I'm sure you do," she mutters under her breath, her voice laced with sarcasm.I exhale sharply, turning away. Engaging in this conversation any further will only lead to another battle of wills—one I don’t have the patience for this morning. As I walk to my office, frustration coils tightly within me. Edwina has always been difficult, but the past twenty-four hours have taken it to a new level.Settling behind my desk, I loosen my tie slightly and rub a hand over my jaw, the tension from last night still lingering. My phone vibrates, pulling me from my thoughts."Hello, Raffaele," comes Jasmine’s smooth voice."Hello, Jas," I respond evenly, already anticipating the reason for her call."Jus

EdwinaThe day finally comes to a close, and exhaustion settles deep in my bones. My muscles ache from a long day at work, and all I want is to sink into bed and forget about the world. When Elliot picks me up, I lean back in my seat, rubbing my temples as I give him directions to Raffaele’s penthouse. I stare out the window, letting the city lights blur past, my mind too tired to focus on anything specific. But then, a flicker of movement in the rearview mirror catches my attention. I frown, straightening slightly. Two black-tinted SUVs are following us at a careful distance. A cold shiver runs down my spine.“Elliot,” I murmur, my voice laced with suspicion. “Have you noticed those two SUVs behind us?”“Yeah, I have,” he replies, keeping his eyes on the road. “They were parked outside the company building when I arrived to pick you up. Didn’t think much of it at first, but they’ve been trailing us ever since.”My jaw clenches as realization dawns. “That bastard,” I mutter under my br

RaffaeleAfter bidding Edwina goodnight, I retreat to my office, intent on getting back to work, but my mind keeps drifting to her request. She had asked me to rest for the night. It was such a simple thing—something most people did without a second thought—but for me, sleep had always been a luxury, one I rarely indulged in. I sigh in frustration, running a hand through my hair. The weight of my responsibilities is relentless, and no matter how much I may want to shut my eyes for a few hours, I know it isn’t an option. There’s too much to do, too much to protect.Just as I settle at my desk, my phone buzzes, Alessandro’s name flashing across the screen.“There’s something you need to see at the compound,” he says, his voice grave. That tone tells me everything I need to know—this isn’t a minor issue. I grab my car keys without hesitation and leave the penthouse, ensuring Edwina remains under the strict watch of her new security detail. She might hate it, but after what I learned about

EdwinaI wake up feeling surprisingly light, stretching lazily in bed before getting up to prepare for the day. The memory of last night lingers at the back of my mind, but I push it aside, deciding to focus on the present. After dressing, I make my way downstairs, expecting to see Raffaele at breakfast, but the dining table is empty save for a steaming cup of coffee and a plate of toast waiting for me.I frown, glancing around. “Where’s Raffaele?” I ask, turning to Alessandro, who stands near the entrance, his usual composed expression in place.“He left early this morning. Business matters,” Alessandro replies smoothly, but something in his voice feels off. Like he’s purposely withholding information.I narrow my eyes at him but decide not to push further. What did I expect? This is Raffaele Marcello, the man who has women practically worshipping at his feet. I would be a fool to think that last night meant anything. Maybe it was just another game for him.Pushing those thoughts away

Edwina"What do you mean he's dead?" I ask, my voice laced with confusion, my brows knitting together as I try to process what I just heard."I killed him, Tesoro," Raffaele states in a hardened voice, his sharp eyes never leaving my face, as if calculating my reaction before it even settles in.To say I’m shocked would be an understatement. The words hang in the air between us, heavy and unshakable. He just admitted to murder like it was a simple transaction. My throat runs dry as I swallow hard, searching for an appropriate response. Finally, I settled on, "Okay."Raffaele's eyes widen slightly, caught off guard by my lack of hysteria. "Okay?" he echoes, clearly surprised by my calm demeanour.I shrug, meeting his gaze. "Well, you are a mafia boss, Raffaele. I don’t expect you to be all rainbows and unicorns."A deep, rich chuckle escapes him, the sound vibrating across the room. RaffaeleSomething is bothering my Tesoro. I know her well enough to understand that she’s too stubborn to talk about it until she’s ready, but I can’t shake the feeling that she’s hiding something. Ever since we landed in Italy, she’s been acting strangely, and the thought that she doesn’t want me to find out why gnaws at me.I’ve been trained to read emotions, to see through deception. And Edwina—my Edwina—has been lying to me for weeks. She may think she’s hiding it well, but I see right through her. I’ve tried to stay calm, to act as though it doesn’t bother me, but deep inside, I’m furious. I love her, but lying is where I draw the line.Closing the door to our bedroom, I make my way to my office, determined to drown myself in work. I call for Gio, needing to clear my mind and, more importantly, to get some answers.A sharp knock sounds at the door, interrupting my focus as I sift through an overwhelming number of emails. Running a frustrated hand through my hair, I grunt, “Come i

EdwinaTonight is the night. I will have my driver on standby, waiting to take you to the airport. And make sure to keep Raffaele away from this, or someone will die tonight, Bellissima. Make sure to do as you are told to avoid someone's blood being on your hands.xx Yours truly. The moment my eyes scan the message on my screen, my blood runs cold. Tonight is the night I will leave Raffaele—to protect him, to protect his men.I inhale sharply, trying to regulate my breathing, willing my pounding heart to steady itself. I can't afford to panic, not now, not with Raffaele just a few steps away in the shower, oblivious to the storm brewing right outside our door."Hey, are you okay?" Raffaele’s deep voice pulls me out of my frantic thoughts, and I lift my gaze to see him standing before me, already dressed, his fingers skillfully buttoning his dress shirt.I force a smile, locking my phone and tossing it onto the bed, as though discarding my fear along with it. "Yeah," I lie, my voice tig

EdwinaI remain frozen on the spot, my eyes locking onto Raffaele’s darkened gaze as he winces, clutching his shirt, which is rapidly soaking with blood.“Cosa è successo?” Eleanora’s voice slices through the tension, her face contorting into a deep frown as she hurries towards her son. Raffaele leans heavily against the counter, Giovanni to his left, Rodriguez to his right, all three men radiating unease. ( What happened?)“I’m fine, madre,” Raffaele grunts, though his voice is tight with pain. Eleanora places a gentle kiss on his forehead, but his sharp green eyes never leave mine. ( Mother)“Thank God you are here. The man is as stubborn as they come, princessa, and only you will be able to help him clean up since he refuses to let anyone else near him,” Alessandro’s voice sounds beside me, pulling my gaze away from Raffaele.I nod, unable to speak, my throat tightening with an emotion I can’t quite place. EdwinaImmediately I head out of Raffaele's office, I make my way across the house, holding my new phone box in my hand. I shake my head in amusement, chuckling at how Raffaele loves to spend money on me without hesitation. My laughter is short-lived when I realize Vincenzo is standing right across from me, arms crossed, an amused smirk playing on his lips."Should I be worried that you are laughing by yourself?" he asks, his tone laced with curiosity and amusement."Maybe," I reply, a smirk tugging at my lips.Vincenzo chuckles, shaking his head as he steps around me, heading towards wherever he is going."Where are you going?" I ask, curiosity getting the best of me."Just headed out to sort some business," he says, his voice casual, but his pace quickens as if he doesn’t want to linger on the topic. Before I can press further, he disappears down the hall.Sighing, I turn on my heel and go to Raffaele’s room. Sitting on the edge of the bed, I stare at the sleek box in my hands, but m

RaffaeleThe moment the question leaves my lips, I see the way Edwina’s body stiffens, her eyes flashing with a flicker of panic before she quickly mouths her expression. I try not to read too much into it, reminding myself that I’ve already made her feel like I don’t trust her—when in reality, the opposite is true. I trust her with my life. The last thing I want is to create more distance between us, to push her away even further.“Come here,” I tell her softly, my gaze locked onto hers. She hesitates for a moment before taking a step forward, but it’s not close enough. “Closer, Tesoro,” I murmur, my voice dipping an octave lower, filled with quiet demand. She obeys, stepping into my space, and I waste no time pulling her into my lap, her legs straddling me. The moment her sweet lilac scent fills my senses, I feel a tension within me loosen. Burying my face into the curve of her neck, I tighten my hold on her, the steady rhythm of her heartbeat soothing the fire within me.“You smell

My body tightens with frustration at Raffaele’s insinuation—however subtle—that I might not be telling him the truth."Why do I feel like you think I’m lying to you?" I ask, my voice sharp, and defensive. I can’t stop myself. His doubt wounds me in ways I can't explain. His brows furrow, his confusion evident. "I don’t, Tesoro. Where is this even coming from?"I let out a bitter laugh, taking a step away from him, needing distance. "Yes, you do. Ever since I went to the mall with your sisters, you’ve been acting like I’m hiding something from you!" My voice rises, my restraint finally snapping.Raffaele clenches his fists at his sides, his expression darkening. "Are you hiding something from me, Tesoro?" My fingers toy with the delicate necklace resting on my collarbone just as the bedroom door opens, revealing a dressed-up Raffaele. Our eyes connect through the mirror as he strides toward me, his gaze dark and intense. His strong arms wrap around my waist, pulling me back against his firm chest. I take in his appearance—jet-black suit tailored to perfection, crisp white shirt, no tie. He looks devastatingly handsome, and my heart flutters at the sight.“You look beautiful, Tesoro,” he murmurs, his voice laced with admiration.I blush under his heated gaze. “Thank you.”With a swift motion, he turns me in his arms, causing me to squeal in surprise. EdwinaThe morning air is cool against my skin as I stir awake, instinctively reaching out to the other side of the bed. My fingers meet nothing but cold sheets. Raffaele is gone. A sigh escapes me as I stare up at the ceiling, my mind already tangled in the weight of the day ahead. How am I supposed to pull this off—leaving with Mariano’s men without anyone in this house realizing?I sit up slowly, rubbing the sleep from my eyes, and notice one of Raffaele’s shirts crumpled at the edge of the bed.
