"What do you mean he's dead?" I ask, my voice laced with confusion, my brows knitting together as I try to process what I just heard.

"I killed him, Tesoro," Raffaele states in a hardened voice, his sharp eyes never leaving my face, as if calculating my reaction before it even settles in.

To say I’m shocked would be an understatement. The words hang in the air between us, heavy and unshakable. He just admitted to murder like it was a simple transaction. My throat runs dry as I swallow hard, searching for an appropriate response. Finally, I settled on, "Okay."

Raffaele's eyes widen slightly, caught off guard by my lack of hysteria. "Okay?" he echoes, clearly surprised by my calm demeanour.

I shrug, meeting his gaze. "Well, you are a mafia boss, Raffaele. I don’t expect you to be all rainbows and unicorns."

A deep, rich chuckle escapes him, the sound vibrating across the room. It's rare to hear him laugh, and something about it makes my stomach flip. His amusement lingers in his e

EdwinaThe car comes to a stop outside what appears to be a nightclub, the blaring music from inside vibrating through the air. Raffaele’s demeanour shifts instantly, transforming into the cold, ruthless Italian mafia boss he truly is. His jaw is set in an unforgiving line, his sharp eyes scanning the surroundings with an intensity that sends a shiver down my spine. No more teasing smirks or soft glances—right now, he is in no mood for games. The car doors open, and Raffaele steps out first, his movements deliberate and controlled. I follow suit, barely catching my breath before his arm locks securely with mine. He doesn’t spare me a glance as we stride towards the entrance, the weight of his power evident in every step he takes. The nightclub is littered with all kinds of people—some looking for trouble, others hoping to escape their reality for a few hours.A handful of Raffaele’s men, dressed in immaculate suits, follow closely behind us, their presence an unspoken warning. As we mo

Edwina"Hmmm," I respond, turning to face Raffaele, who takes slow, calculated steps in my direction."Are you okay, Tesoro?" His piercing green eyes search mine, filled with an intensity that makes my stomach twist."Yeah, I am," I say, forcing my voice to stay steady, trying to keep my emotions from betraying me."Bullshit," Raffaele growls, gripping my chin between his fingers and tilting my face up to meet his. My breath hitches at his touch, my body betraying the fight I want to put up."I’ve been watching you, Edwina. You looked lost in thought," he murmurs, his thumb running over my lower lip, making my body shudder involuntarily."Don’t act like you care," I snap defensively, my voice sharper than intended.Raffaele’s grip tightens, his jaw clenching as frustration flickers across his face. "Why do you have to be so damn infuriating?" His tone is rough, edged with something deeper, something darker."Why do you have to be such an ass?" I shoot back, matching his fire with my ow

EdwinaAfter meeting with Mr. Black, I rush back to the office to finish up a few tasks with Alexxis. The day drags on, but eventually, it winds to a close as she helps me clear the clutter from my desk. The rhythmic shuffling of papers fills the room, blending with the distant hum of the city beyond the office windows."Alexxis, can I ask you something?" I finally say, breaking the silence. She glances at me, her hands still neatly stacking the paperwork. "Sure.""The other day, Krys mentioned that you hooked her up with Alessandro," I say, watching for her reaction.Alexxis bursts into laughter. "Yeah, I did. Not that she gave me much of a choice. She was determined to find you that morning."I chuckle, shaking my head. Krys could be incredibly demanding when she wanted something. "So, do you and Alessandro talk?"Alexxis hesitates, her smile faltering just slightly before she sighs. "Not really. I haven’t heard from him these past few days."I catch the subtle weight in her voice. "

  • Elegantly Wasted   Chapter 17-The Fortress

EdwinaThe moonlight spills through the lattice of leaves, casting shifting shadows across the tarmac as Raffaele’s car glides toward an intricate wrought-iron gate. The metal structure is massive, and imposing—like something out of a gothic dream—and yet, it parts smoothly, sensing our arrival, and welcoming us into the unknown. My pulse quickens as Raffaele drives through, the engine purring softly in the quiet of the night. And then, it comes into view.A fortress of a castle, dark and looming, emerges from the night, its towering walls standing firm against time itself. My mouth falls open in awe, my breath hitching as I take in the raw, breathtaking power of the structure before me. Built of stones in varying sizes and shapes, each piece unique, the fortress appears black from a distance. But as we move closer, the subtle interplay of colours—a mosaic of darkened greys and humble browns—reveals itself amid the sea of deep green that surrounds it.The atmosphere is thick with an ee

EdwinaThe sound of the shower door sliding open stirs me from my haze, my eyes fluttering open on instinct. And there he stands—Raffaele. Completely bare, his presence commanding, his gaze searing into my skin as hot water cascades down my body. I make no effort to shield myself; there’s no use in pretending modesty before him.His eyes roam over me, intense and unrelenting, as if memorizing every curve and drop of water gliding down my skin. I pointedly avoid letting my gaze drift below his waist, though my breath hitches at the sight of his sculpted torso. Tattoos snake along his skin, accentuating the hard planes of his abs, and the deep-cut V of his pelvis—a body carved from sin. This man is sex on two legs. And I hate that my body responds to him so easily.I rip my gaze away, remembering where he’s coming from, remembering that just moments ago, he was with Jasmine. My throat tightens as I murmur, “Aren’t you supposed to be discussing something with Jasmine?”Raffaele’s expressi

EdwinaI slowly stir awake, instinctively reaching for the other side of the bed, only to find cold, creased sheets. My chest tightens at Raffaele's absence, and disappointment settles deep in my bones. Last night replays in my mind—the way his hands claimed me and his lips murmured my name like a prayer. And now, he's gone.Maybe he regrets it. Maybe I was just a pawn in his game, a momentary indulgence before he tossed me aside. The thought makes my throat burn, my eyes brimming with tears, but I quickly wipe them away the moment the bedroom door creaks open."Morning, Tesoro," Raffaele's deep, velvety voice washes over me, sending an involuntary shiver down my spine. The bed dips as he settles beside me, but I keep my gaze fixed on the ceiling, unwilling to face him, too ashamed of how easily I had surrendered to him.A hand cups my chin, forcing me to look at him. His dark eyes soften the moment he sees the unshed tears clinging to my lashes. His brows knit together in concern, his

RaffaeleOnce Edwina leaves for work with one of my trusted men, I head into my office to find Matteo waiting for me, a lit cigar pressed between his lips. Smoke curls lazily into the air as he leans back in his chair, an amused smirk playing on his face."You know, boss, your woman is quite beautiful up close," Matteo comments, his eyes gleaming with mischief.I growl lowly, my hands clenching into fists at the mere thought of another man acknowledging Edwina’s beauty. "Don’t even go there."Matteo chuckles, raising his hands in mock surrender. "Relax, man. You know very well Jasmine is more than enough for me."I narrow my eyes at him, catching the faint smile tugging at his lips. "Asshole," I mutter as I pull up at my desk, rolling up the sleeves of my dress shirt.Matteo exhales another puff of smoke before asking, "Any news on Mariano and his men? A couple of gin shots later, the world blurs into streaks of neon and strobe lights, my inhibitions unravelling like a loose thread.Krys and I move with the music, our bodies in perfect sync, our arms raised high, surrendering to the beat. The energy in the club is electric, a chaotic blend of heat, laughter, and raw exhilaration. My mind buzzes, a high like no other, the joy in my chest blooming like fireworks. I close my eyes, letting the rhythm consume me, my body becoming one with the music, with the strangers around me, with the night itself.Krys whoops beside me, her voice lost in the cacophony of bass and synths, and I can’t help but laugh, my head tilting back as the room spins in a delightful blur. RaffaeleSomething is bothering my Tesoro. I know her well enough to understand that she’s too stubborn to talk about it until she’s ready, but I can’t shake the feeling that she’s hiding something. Ever since we landed in Italy, she’s been acting strangely, and the thought that she doesn’t want me to find out why gnaws at me.I’ve been trained to read emotions, to see through deception. And Edwina—my Edwina—has been lying to me for weeks. She may think she’s hiding it well, but I see right through her. I’ve tried to stay calm, to act as though it doesn’t bother me, but deep inside, I’m furious. I love her, but lying is where I draw the line.Closing the door to our bedroom, I make my way to my office, determined to drown myself in work. I call for Gio, needing to clear my mind and, more importantly, to get some answers.A sharp knock sounds at the door, interrupting my focus as I sift through an overwhelming number of emails. Running a frustrated hand through my hair, I grunt, “Come i

EdwinaTonight is the night. I will have my driver on standby, waiting to take you to the airport. And make sure to keep Raffaele away from this, or someone will die tonight, Bellissima. Make sure to do as you are told to avoid someone's blood being on your hands.xx Yours truly. The moment my eyes scan the message on my screen, my blood runs cold. Tonight is the night I will leave Raffaele—to protect him, to protect his men.I inhale sharply, trying to regulate my breathing, willing my pounding heart to steady itself. I can't afford to panic, not now, not with Raffaele just a few steps away in the shower, oblivious to the storm brewing right outside our door."Hey, are you okay?" Raffaele’s deep voice pulls me out of my frantic thoughts, and I lift my gaze to see him standing before me, already dressed, his fingers skillfully buttoning his dress shirt.I force a smile, locking my phone and tossing it onto the bed, as though discarding my fear along with it. "Yeah," I lie, my voice tig

EdwinaI remain frozen on the spot, my eyes locking onto Raffaele’s darkened gaze as he winces, clutching his shirt, which is rapidly soaking with blood.“Cosa è successo?” Eleanora’s voice slices through the tension, her face contorting into a deep frown as she hurries towards her son. Raffaele leans heavily against the counter, Giovanni to his left, Rodriguez to his right, all three men radiating unease. ( What happened?)“I’m fine, madre,” Raffaele grunts, though his voice is tight with pain. Eleanora places a gentle kiss on his forehead, but his sharp green eyes never leave mine. ( Mother)“Thank God you are here. The man is as stubborn as they come, princessa, and only you will be able to help him clean up since he refuses to let anyone else near him,” Alessandro’s voice sounds beside me, pulling my gaze away from Raffaele.I nod, unable to speak, my throat tightening with an emotion I can’t quite place. EdwinaImmediately I head out of Raffaele's office, I make my way across the house, holding my new phone box in my hand. I shake my head in amusement, chuckling at how Raffaele loves to spend money on me without hesitation. My laughter is short-lived when I realize Vincenzo is standing right across from me, arms crossed, an amused smirk playing on his lips."Should I be worried that you are laughing by yourself?" he asks, his tone laced with curiosity and amusement."Maybe," I reply, a smirk tugging at my lips.Vincenzo chuckles, shaking his head as he steps around me, heading towards wherever he is going."Where are you going?" I ask, curiosity getting the best of me."Just headed out to sort some business," he says, his voice casual, but his pace quickens as if he doesn’t want to linger on the topic. Before I can press further, he disappears down the hall.Sighing, I turn on my heel and go to Raffaele’s room. Sitting on the edge of the bed, I stare at the sleek box in my hands, but m

RaffaeleThe moment the question leaves my lips, I see the way Edwina’s body stiffens, her eyes flashing with a flicker of panic before she quickly mouths her expression. I try not to read too much into it, reminding myself that I’ve already made her feel like I don’t trust her—when in reality, the opposite is true. I trust her with my life. The last thing I want is to create more distance between us, to push her away even further.“Come here,” I tell her softly, my gaze locked onto hers. She hesitates for a moment before taking a step forward, but it’s not close enough. “Closer, Tesoro,” I murmur, my voice dipping an octave lower, filled with quiet demand. She obeys, stepping into my space, and I waste no time pulling her into my lap, her legs straddling me. The moment her sweet lilac scent fills my senses, I feel a tension within me loosen. Burying my face into the curve of her neck, I tighten my hold on her, the steady rhythm of her heartbeat soothing the fire within me.“You smell

EdwinaWe sit in silence, the air between us thick with unspoken words and simmering tension. My body tightens with frustration at Raffaele’s insinuation—however subtle—that I might not be telling him the truth."Why do I feel like you think I’m lying to you?" I ask, my voice sharp, and defensive. I can’t stop myself. His doubt wounds me in ways I can't explain. His brows furrow, his confusion evident. "I don’t, Tesoro. Where is this even coming from?"I let out a bitter laugh, taking a step away from him, needing distance. "Yes, you do. Ever since I went to the mall with your sisters, you’ve been acting like I’m hiding something from you!" My voice rises, my restraint finally snapping.Raffaele clenches his fists at his sides, his expression darkening. "Are you hiding something from me, Tesoro?" His voice is eerily calm, but there’s something lethal in the way he says it, venom curling around each word. The question cuts deep. It confirms my worst fear—that he truly does not trust me.

EdwinaI stand in front of our bedroom mirror, admiring the way the red gown hugs my body, accentuating my hourglass figure. My hair is straightened, a new look for me since it’s usually curly and bouncing off my shoulders. My fingers toy with the delicate necklace resting on my collarbone just as the bedroom door opens, revealing a dressed-up Raffaele. Our eyes connect through the mirror as he strides toward me, his gaze dark and intense. His strong arms wrap around my waist, pulling me back against his firm chest. I take in his appearance—jet-black suit tailored to perfection, crisp white shirt, no tie. He looks devastatingly handsome, and my heart flutters at the sight.“You look beautiful, Tesoro,” he murmurs, his voice laced with admiration.I blush under his heated gaze. “Thank you.”With a swift motion, he turns me in his arms, causing me to squeal in surprise. EdwinaThe morning air is cool against my skin as I stir awake, instinctively reaching out to the other side of the bed. My fingers meet nothing but cold sheets. Raffaele is gone. Not just recently, but long enough for the warmth of his body to have completely faded. A sigh escapes me as I stare up at the ceiling, my mind already tangled in the weight of the day ahead. How am I supposed to pull this off—leaving with Mariano’s men without anyone in this house realizing?I sit up slowly, rubbing the sleep from my eyes, and notice one of Raffaele’s shirts crumpled at the edge of the bed. Without thinking, I grab it and slip it over my head, inhaling the lingering scent of him. It grounds me, even as guilt churns deep in my stomach. I shouldn’t be indulging in this, in him. I roll over, snatching it off the nightstand, and barely have time to brace myself before Krys’s voice explodes through the speaker.
