Chapter 5

"Barbie! Lissa! We're getting late!" Mum yelled.

"I'm almost through" I yelled back.

"Be fast" she responded.

I took so long because I wasn't sure of what to wear or how to give a good impression. I didn't know if I was to be formal or informal.

After lots of thinking and research I decided to wear a black short dress and some heels. I let my long wavy hair flow. I wasn't really used to a sleeveless dress.

I applied some foundation to cover up my eye bags, concealer, eyeliner to spice it up, mascara for my eyelashes and red lipstick that fit my red shoe and purse.

I looked so charming. I couldn't even recognize my self. I took an extra time earlier to apply a black nail polish. I didn't apply a red nail polish cause I didn't want to be flashily dressed.

After dressing up, I went downstairs to meet my mum.

"OMG! Lissa you look sexy! If I wasn't your sister I'll be dating you right now" Barbie said.

"You look charming to" I told her.

Barbie, I mean Tracy. Tracy was also looking hot. She wore a red body hugging dress and some flats. She packed her hair in a ponytail. She wanted to show off her very attractive back. Although Tracy usually compared her beauty to mine, I feel she's way attractive.

"Where are my daughters?" My mum asked sarcastically.

"Mum!" I scolded.

"I mean, you guys look sexier than my daughters"

This made us burst into laughter before we realized we were late.

"Shit! It's 8:35 and dinner starts by eight." I exclaimed.

"Our first impression is almost ruined" mum said. "Come on. We are about to take the first race of our lives"

"What?" Barbie asked.

"We are running to the Thompson's."

"Don't ruin your make up" mum warned.

"Let's go!"

We ran as fast as our legs could carry. We got to their mansion a minute later.

Knock Knock Knock

"Hello Mrs Bond, how are you doing?" Stacey asked.

"Oh I'm fine" mum said while panting. I bet we looked like hungry dogs searching for food .

"Are you okay Mrs Bond?" Stacey asked

"Yes. Why do you ask?"

"You look really exhausted"

"About that. I just finished my evening exercise so I'm a little exhausted." My mum lied.

"By 8:37pm?" She gave mum this look.

"Yeah. That's life" mum started smiling foolishly.

"Very well. You may come in. Dinner would be served in a minute" Stacey said while offering us in.

....

"Dinner's served" Stacey told us.

We still hadn't met the Thompson's. Stacey said they were joining us for dinner so didn't have to see us yet.

I found that really rude but who I'm I to intervene. My mum was cool with it so I didn't care. We ended up chatting before dinner was served.

We wanted to watch some TV but Stacey said it was against their house hold rules so we just chatted and admired their very spacious house.

We went straight to the dinning room table. We skipped dinner at home so we'll have enough appetite to eat at the Thompson's. That made me to be super hungry.

We settled at the dinning table before we saw Mr and Mrs Thompson come downstairs. Their son Steve was just at the back of them.

"Hello Mr and Mrs Thompson. It's nice to meet you" Mum greeted.

"And you are?" Mrs Thompson interrupted.

"Mrs Bond. Martha Bond" mum replied.

I really found her attitude rude but like I said. Who I'm I to talk?

"The new neighbors?" Mrs Thompson asked.

"Yes" mum replied coldly. Mum was probably feeling what I was feeling.

"Enough of the questions sweetie, let's get to dinner" Mr Thompson said.

"Finally someone with vibes." I mumbled.

"What?" Mrs Thompson asked.

"Nothing" I replied.

"Don't you have a name?" She asked

"Yes I do" I answered.

"So what is it?"

"Oh! I didn't know you understood English. Sorry" I said rudely but my voice was quite low so I don't know if she heard me. I didn't care if was rude. She was pissing me off.

"Pardon?"

"I'm Lissa. Melissa Bond"

But she didn't answer. She just rolled her eyes at me.

Mr Thompson suspected that things were heating cause he changed the topic.

"I'm John. John Thompson."

"My wife over here is Amelia Thompson but you can call her Lia."

"My son's name is Steven. Steven Thompson" He concluded.

"I already know your son's name" I blurted stupidly.

As soon as I mentioned this. Mrs Thompson's eyes almost popped out. Mr Thompson on the other hand was shocked. Steve was just confused.

"Oh really? How?" Mr Thompson asked.

I had to think of a good response so I said " I overheard Stacey call him."

"And when was that?" He asked again.

"The day I brought cookies"

"So it was your cookies?" He asked.

"Actually, my mum made them."I said.

"They were very lovely. Stacey didn't tell us it was yours cause she knows we don't accept things from strangers."

Then he turned to Stacey and said "I would have been angry with you but the cookie was wonderful so I forgive you"

"You know, we actually praised Stacey so much for the cookie. Now it's time to praise you" Mr Thompson said while looking at mum.

"No. I don't mind making it" mum said but he didn't listen.

"How about I offer you a contract." He said

"Really?" Mum asked

"Yes. At my restaurant. You'll be the manager. You can choose any of my branches and start working on Monday"

"Omg!" Mum exclaimed.

"Wait. I don't mean to inconvenience you or make someone loose their job" mum said.

"Don't worry about that" he concluded.

"Thank you so much" my mum said with a big grin.

"You deserve it" he said

"We'll talk about your salary on Monday"

"What's your name sweetie?" He asked Tracy

"Tracy Bond" Barbie said.

"Okay. Why don't you too have a good time with my son Steve. Give your parents some break" he said.

The three of us stood up and headed for the stairs.

"By the way, you girls look charming" he said just as we were walking.

"Thanks Mr. Thompson" Barbie and I said in Unison.

We followed Steve to his room but he didn't say a word to us. Barbie and I attempted to start a conversation but he wouldn't burg. I bet he didn't like us or maybe he was still hurt from his break up.

Time passed and we were going home. When we reached the door and was about to leave. I lied that I forgot something.

I had to say goodbye to Steve. I knocked at his door but no answer. I decided to open the door but he was asleep.
