A deep shade of red

Jessie’s POV

Rays of the morning sun filtered through the curtains, spreading their warmth over my face. I tossed and turned, searching for a comfortable spot, my eyes still drowsy with sleep.

Suddenly, I felt a hand brushing the scattered strands of hair away from my face. I blinked my eyes open and an involuntary smile slipped.

“Good morning,” I murmured, hiding my face under the thick duvet.

“What are you doing?” Gavin asked, “You were bold and wild just last night. Don’t be shy now.”

I wasn’t particularly shy to be honest. I was embarrassed.

Embarrassed that I resorted to using my body to distract Gavin.

I once read that a woman’s true color lay in the things she thought she was incapable of. And here I was displaying mine— a deep shade of red tinted with guilt.

Gavin drew closer now, his fingers tracing a line on my face before planting a kiss on my forehead.

“Why aren’t you looking at me? Do you regret it? Did I hurt you?”
