I looked Wathoni’s limp and injury ridden body over again.

The only reason I could believe that she wasn’t a sick imagination of mine was because Hyacinth was present and her hands roaming around her bloodied body was proof that she was real. I shuffled on my feet helplessly as I watched her examine Wathoni closely while chanting.

A part of me urged me to yank her off my office couch and throw her into the nearest dumpster and leave her for dead.

But how could I? I wasn’t a heartless monster and she was clearly near death’s gate and she’d come to me when she could’ve gone anywhere else. She must’ve known that coming to a person who was tagged as a traitor would mean putting her life that was on the verge of ending in more danger, but she’d looked past that and come to me for help anyways.

That showed just how desperate and endangered she was. As well as how much she trusted that I had some good in me.

I couldn’t turn her away knowing that. Right?
