I slid into the plush leather seats of his brand-new Range Rover, the engine purring to life as I turned the key.

The sleek, black exterior gleamed under the morning sun, a stark contrast to the dusty roads I would soon navigate. As I drove towards the mining company, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and anxiety bubbling within me.

With each turn of the wheel, I thought about how today will be at the company. Would the new client be welcoming? Would I fit in with the established crew?

I had heard stories of the intense work environment, where every decision could impact the project’s success. The weight of expectations pressed on me, but the comfort of my new car offered a sense of reassurance.

As I pulled into the parking lot, I took a deep breath, ready to tackle whatever challenges lay ahead. Today was the beginning of a new chapter, and I  was determined to make it a success.

I parked the Range Rover in a prime spot, admiring how it stood out among the other vehicles. As I stepped out, the sun glinted off the polished surface, and I felt a surge of confidence.

I looked up at the company, taking a good look at it. XANDER MINING COMPANY LTD showed boldly at the front of the company, I adjusted my tie and took a moment to gather my thoughts.

Walking towards the entrance of the mining company, I recalled his extensive preparation for this role. I had researched the company’s projects and the team dynamics, hoping to make a positive impression. The sounds of machinery and the chatter of workers filled the air, reminding me of the bustling environment he was stepping into.

As I entered the building, I could feel the eyes of the other colleagues on me, but instead of feeling intimidated, I embraced the challenge. Today was not just about starting to do a job better but it was about proving to myself that I could thrive in this environment. With a determined smile, I stepped forward, ready to make my mark.

I strolled to my office with determination written all over my face. I have a lot of work to do and a lot of responsibility to take over, Claudia and her children would be in action, and now my dad's developing different sicknesses.

Sometimes I pity that man and hope I don’t fall victim to sickness in my old age. He was a versatile young man when he was young and grew to be a prosperous miner and now he’s struck down with sickness. The last time he got into a crisis, he had cardiac arrest and I presume that’s as a result of his intensive shouting and all. Anyway, he was a successful man.

“Good morning Mr. Nicholas,” I heard my secretary greet, bringing me back from my thoughts.

“Morning, Beatrice,” I said and walked into my office as she followed behind.

“Beatrice, what does my schedule say today?” I asked as I settled on my chair and brought my laptop from its bag.

“Sir, we have a departmental and board meeting for the preparation for the upcoming gala night for all mining companies in the USA.  And you were also nominated as one of the committees, she replied, still scrolling the pad in her hand.”

“Anything else?”, I asked, trying to wrap up my schedule in my head, I immediately got a headache.

“Beatrice get me a cup of coffee, please, and please inform the others about the meeting and get back to me”.

She nodded and rushed out of my office. I wanted to start working but I just felt a bit tired. I stood up and stretched.

I imagined a cozy mini-mining office that captures the essence of gold mining. The walls are adorned with rich wooden panels, giving it a warm and inviting feel. In one corner, there's a display case showcasing various gold sculptures, each telling a story of the mining process.

One sculpture might depict a miner with a pickaxe, skillfully chipping away at a rock, while another could represent a shimmering gold nugget, glistening under the soft lighting. The desk is cluttered with maps of mining sites, tools of the trade, and a few geological samples, creating an atmosphere of hard work and dedication.

A small window lets in natural light, illuminating the gold sculptures and reflecting their beauty throughout the room. Overall, this mining office serves as a tribute to the art and labor of gold mining, inspiring creativity and appreciation for the craft.

In a few minutes, Beatrice came back with a cup of coffee as I had ordered.

“Thanks,” I said as I took a sip, I watched her about to leave before she abruptly stopped like she forgot something.

“Sir, I just remembered you asked me to remind you that you want to visit a store yourself and check up on their sales figure”, Beatrice reminded me.

I tapped my pen against my desk, eyes glued to the financial report in front of me.  A soft knock on the door broke his concentration.

"Come in," he said, barely looking up.

Mr Davies, the board chairman entered, his face composed but with a hint of amusement in his eyes.

“Good day sir,  just a reminder about your appointment this afternoon. You're meeting with the owners of that miniature mining shop, remember? To discuss their sales figures."

I frowned, a wave of annoyance washing over me. "Miniature mining?  Beatrice, how come my schedule is so tight, I have a board meeting in the morning, a shareholder call in the afternoon, and a dinner with the ambassador. I don't have time for... well, for this."

Beatrice smiled patiently. "I understand, Mr. Nicholas, but you specifically requested this meeting. You wanted to see their sales figures firsthand, to get a better understanding of the market."

I sighed, she was right, I specifically asked for it, wanting to see and know what to do about the growth of the other mini-store underneath us, rubbing my temples. "Of course, I did. It's just... it feels a bit... trivial, don't you think?"

Beatrice's smile widened. "Mr. Nicholas, I assure you, this is not trivial. It's a growing market, and you wouldn't want to miss out on an opportunity."

I sighed again, realizing she was right. Beatrice is literally my best secretary, she has the gift of words of encouragement, and she just had the perfect words for each moment.

"Fine, I'll go. But please, Beatrice, schedule a quick meeting. I have a lot on my plate."

Beatrice nodded, her smile fading. "Of course, Mr. Nicholas. I'll arrange it immediately."

Mr. Nicholas, my brow furrowed in concentration, leaned forward across the polished mahogany table. "Mr. Davies, I wanted more updates on the preparations for the gala committee meeting.”

“We're making good progress, but there are a few key details I wanted to discuss."

Mr. Davies, a seasoned businessman with a steely gaze, adjusted his glasses, his attention fully on me.

 "Go on, I'm all ears."

"First, the guest list. I've sent out invitations to all the key figures in the industry, as well as prominent politicians and philanthropists. We've already secured confirmations from several high-profile attendees, which is very encouraging and I hope so for the other companies too."

"Excellent. And the entertainment?" I inquired, my voice deep and measured.

"We've booked a renowned band, and the magician has confirmed his availability. He's a crowd-pleaser, and I believe he'll add a touch of magic to the evening." He paused, a hint of excitement in his voice.

"We're also planning a silent auction with some incredible items donated by local businesses. We're hoping to raise a significant sum for the charity."

I nodded slowly, my lips curving into a subtle smile. "Sounds promising, Davies. Just make sure everything runs smoothly, and I'm confident this will be a resounding success. The gala is a vital opportunity to showcase our company's commitment to the community."

"I understand, sir ," Mr. Davies responded, a renewed sense of purpose filling his voice. "I'll ensure everything is meticulously planned and executed. We'll make this gala a night to remember."he replied before he left.

I felt my phone beep after hours, it’s probably Beatrice sending a reminder. I stretched my hands to pick up my phone from the couch, as I expected…Hey! Just a friendly reminder that our meeting is at 2:am today. Don’t be late!!

It’s always this simple, she’s just unique and filled with simplicity.

I didn’t want anyone noticing my arrival, so I didn’t take any of my colleagues with me, I just wanted a formal meeting.

I checked my wrist watch and it was 2:00, I smiled, picked up my car keys, and left.

I decided to spoil myself with some music. I drove feeling the vibes. I've always gotten people's perspective that I’m an introvert, only few or none know I’m an ambivert, an introvert with little spice of extroverts.

I got to the parking lot, I parked with the help of the parking valet. I was greeted by an average-aged man with a broad smile on his face, looks like they were expecting me.

I stepped into the gold shop, the soft chime of the doorbell announcing his arrival. The warm glow of the gold displays caught his eye, but it was the woman behind the counter that truly captivated him. Her radiant smile and sparkling eyes were expertly showing a customer a delicate gold necklace.

"Excuse me," I said, approaching the counter with a confident smile. "I couldn't help but notice how beautifully you present your jewelry. It’s like you’re showcasing pieces of art." I decided to play dirty, why the fuck do I have to do this every time? Flirt!!

The lady looked up, a hint of surprise crossing her face. "Thank you! I believe every piece has its own story. This necklace, for example, was inspired by the beauty of the African sun." She explained she was passionate, I thought.

Nicholas leaned closer, intrigued. "And what’s the story behind you? You seem to have a sparkle that rivals even the finest gold." I smirked in my playboy act.

She chuckled, her cheeks flushing slightly. "I guess you could say I’m just passionate about what I do. Helping people find the perfect piece is what makes my day," she replied

"Well, it seems you’ve found your calling," he replied, his gaze unwavering. "I’m Nicholas, by the way."

"Nice to meet you, Nicholas. I’m Bridget," she said, extending her hand. Our fingers brushed lightly, sending a spark of electricity into me, literally.

"So, Bridget, do you ever get tired of selling gold? I mean, it must be hard to part with such beautiful pieces," I asked, genuinely curious.

"Sometimes, but I love seeing the joy on people's faces when they find something special," she said, her eyes lighting up. "It’s like I’m part of their story, helping them create memories."

I nodded, captivated by her passion. "You know, I think you’re the one creating the memories here. How about we make a memory of our own? What’s your favorite piece in the shop?"

Bridget paused, considering. "Hmm, I’d have to say the gold bracelet in the display case over there. It’s simple yet elegant, perfect for any occasion."

"Let’s take a closer look," I suggested, leading her to the display. As they examined the bracelet, I leaned in slightly, lowering my voice. "You know, I’ve always been one for jewelry, but I might just say we have a thing in common if it means I get to see you again."

Bridget laughed, a melodic sound that made me smile. "Flattery will get you everywhere, Nicholas. But I have to admit, it’s refreshing to meet someone who appreciates the art behind the jewelry."

I turned to her, my expression serious for a moment. "Bridget, can I be honest with you? I came in here for a meeting, but I think I found something much more valuable."

I saw the way her expression changed slowly, as she looked up to meet my gaze. "And what would that be?"

"You," he said softly, a genuine smile spreading across his face. "I’d like you to inform your boss that his guest has arrived,” I said, trying very hard not to laugh.

The facial expressions were from happy to blue.

BRIDGET POV

I felt a flutter in her stomach, after hearing him say I should inform my boss. This shouldn’t be the visitor Mr Brown said we were receiving.

I looked up at him once again, his eyes sparkling with excitement. This is the chairman of the biggest mining company in New York, XANDER MINING!!!. I could feel the air around us charged.

Bridget!!! I could hear Mr Brown calling from the other side, Bridget??

“Just a minute, sir,” I answered as I left and went to meet him. Where have you been? I’ve been calling quite a number of times and you didn’t respond. I screamed angrily, I didn’t reply all I did was stare at Nicholas or would I rather say Mr Nicholas, who just stood there and watched the scenario.

“What are you looking at??,” He asked then looked towards where I was looking.

“Si..rr you have a visitor, I managed to say.”

“Who’s that?”He asked as then looked towards the counter where Mr Nicholas stood.

“Mr Nicholas,” he said and quickly paced toward him stretching his hands for a handshake. His immediate change in character, made me believe there are beings that are just hypocritical.

“I have been here for quite a while now, and I have been able to interact with your receptionist or whoever she is, I would like to commend her ability to interact with customers. He began with, he got his hands into his pockets and started moving away from Mr Brown, his shirt slightly opening, revealing the dark hairs on his chest.

He stopped at my front and smiled confidently with a little bit of mischievous glint in his eyes.

As the boss of a store, you are expected to move around and check what’s going on. With that being said, I wouldn’t want to waste more time, can we please proceed?

“Yes, sir we….may,” Mr Brown stammering like a confused soul.

He snapped a hard glare at me before saying some things that I couldn’t understand as he left with Mr Nicholas.

I was still in shock about all that had happened, I thought about the way I blabbed, I felt so embarrassed. I tried as much as possible to discard and return to my counter and work on the accounts.
