All the members stood up as I entered the hall premises. Every one of them bowed as they saw me entering in front of them with their two hands holding together, pressing their upper stomach. Christian, Hisha, Aniela, and Elaine sat on the right side of this circular glass table with a hologram in the middle. On the other side lies Gabriel and Alexis.
My attention went towards the transparent chair beside Gabriel. It was empty.
It was so disturbing in my eyes.
I just realized that Lance wasn't here. What? Why is Lance isn't here?
"Where's Lance?" With a creased forehead, I asked Gabriel. But actually, that question was for everyone in this room.
Gabriel bowed his head first before answering. "He told me this morning that he's not feeling well." He stressed.
"For what reason?"
He raised his shoulders. "He did not tell or even gave a clue."
My eyes blinked a few seconds while I bit my lower lips about what he said. The last time I saw Lance working, he felt healthy at all. It was not about emphasizing that people aren't allowed to get sick, but he should have told me ahead. I have no idea what was happening to him, and now, I need to adjust the division of tasks I prepared.
I smirked in bitterness. "It seems like Lance found a new leader, hm?" I whinged, facing Gabriel as I grabbed the tip of my clothes down quickly before I sat. Then I focused once again on the tasks I was supposed to do this afternoon.
From the side of my right eye, I saw Gabriel, who bowed his head because of shame. He did not even approach me ahead before this meeting starts.
I felt no emotion as I arranged the papers that I will be giving to them. I stood up to distribute the summary, making an irritating sound of the chair where I was sitting. I threw the papers in front of them without noticing that it produced an aggressive sound.
After disseminating those stuff, I managed to grab the starter device at the opposite end of the table to activate the hologram. I did not bother to ask the one seated near the receptacle-where the starter device was floating.
When the hologram appeared, I went back to my place and asked them to sit down. They immediately followed.
The room was in silence.
I sighed, trying to calm myself before sitting down. I closed my eyes for a second before starting the formal discussion.
I raised my hands and made sure that the hologram can detect my palm and recognize my handprints. The machine displayed a confirmation sound, saying that it understood the biometrics. Afterward, it showed all the summary we had as a team, including the plant visuals and simulation of its characteristics.
Everyone's eyes were focused and did not make any unnecessary movements nor sounds.
First, I discussed the observation of each member, which highlights the main characteristics of the plant. These were the color, shape, possible texture, form, and size. I compared them to one another and formulated the average findings.
Second, I emphasized the plant's characteristics when it comes to reacting to nature. The central discussion was its interesting reaction when facing natural light. Another one was the reaction between the plant's interaction to humans, including how it creates butterflies out from the flowers when touched. It reminded me of Lance. He was the reason why we had this kind of observation. I was about to continue discussing when I realized something.
All of them were stunned when they noticed me stopped talking. I wondered if Lance's physical interaction with the plant has something to do with his absence today. It was not merely a coincidence.
The incident also reminded me of what happened to my hand this morning. But the thing was, I touched a different plant.
I massaged my head in extreme frustration while closing my eyes. I couldn't think properly.
All of a sudden, I experienced a flashback. My brain flitted a scenario of a rural landscape where tall yellow leaves swayed with the wind. There was a familiar girl who stood just beside me. Her hair disguised her face, which hindered me in distinguishing who she was.
Her voice echoed, "You drank them like rivers until they ran dry."
"You made them as your shelter when they don't even have one."
"You tried to look impressive, but you will never impress them."
I felt so dizzy having these things in my head. I couldn't picture out what was happening at that time. Everything seemed a flash of events.
"How pity, humans have no idea..."
At this point, I woke up in my consciousness when I realized that I almost passed out.
I felt a hand tapping on my shoulder. "Wake, are you alright?" It was Hisha.
When I tried to open my eyes, everything I saw was blurred. Those human figures in white approached my direction, probably trying to console me. The voice of that woman in my memory kept echoing in my head.
You drank them like rivers until they ran dry? What does it mean?
-
The familiar weird smell of medicines and band-aids woke me up.
"Finally! You're awake!" The relieved face of Hisha approached my sight. Her eyebrows went relaxed while letting out an air of worry-free.
I can't stop feeling uncomfortable in my surroundings. I was on this arched bed in the middle of the laboratory.
Did I pass out a while ago?
"We injected temporary medicine for your wound because no matter how much we tried looking for the most effective one, it would not make any difference." A focused tone of voice caught my attention. It was from Lance.
I was surprised when seeing him. So he was here now?
My eyes were questioning his presence. "I thought you're absent today."
I saw him feeling guilty about what he did. He bowed his head and can't keep the focus of having eye contact with mine. "Ahm... I apologized-"
"So you're okay now?" I asked in bitterness. "Tsk, you're late." I continued while greeting my teeth in front of him. I was not in the mood to argue more. He was lucky that I felt not normal right now. I still feel a little dizzy with a tiny pinch feeling on my right hand. He should be thankful.
When I remembered the hell that crawled within my hand, I immediately raised it above where my sight can see it.
All of the members gasped in concern.
"Oh! Wait, be careful!"
"Slowly!"
These were the only few things I heard.
When I saw my hand, the wound was like a trace of sharp pencils stabbed deep into it but in a spiral form, passing in between my fingers.
What a perfect art! I said to myself in sarcasm. But, I admit, it was not comfortable to stare at it. I was worried about its possible effects.
When the members informed me about the misfortune of looking for the right medicine, I assumed that this wound could be a new health problem or a disease.
When Lance was talking about this topic first a while ago, I asked.
"How did you know that there was no effective treatment for this?" I clarified. As much as I knew that he concluded too early, I guess he had enough knowledge about these things.
I was starring at him, with the rest bowing their heads, listening to our conversation. I saw on his face that he was somewhat confused about my question. So I added.
"Don't get me wrong. My hands attacked by the branches just yesterday, and now you were saying that there was no treatment to this? I mean, where's the authenticity? It was only a short time yet, you concluded?" I explained in a much more way that he could surely understand what I was trying to say. This message is not only for him; it was also for everyone in this room anyway.
I was referring to competitiveness and accuracy.
Lance glared at me with his steady eyes while raising her one hand. His pointy finger struck me the most. It has the same wound as mine, and I can't stop wondering!
"Y-you-" I muttered a word out of surprise, while Lance immediately interrupted my words as he nodded.
"Yes, the unknown plant and Narra tree have the same effect. I was a victim too."
Sarah CodacheCarefully stepping on the stairs while going down, my mom's angry and loud voice echoed all over the house as she scolded my sister about the hole that broke the wooden walls inside my room. At least, that was what I understood when I tried to analyze mom's actions. They kept blustering each other.
Wake LouchetteThe strange and utterly new environment welcomed our sight as we arrived in Layvanna. When we went down from the tube-sized floating transportation, we immediately walked straight towards our accommodation. Exclusive security officers guarded our surroundings to ensure our safety. They were wearing the same black uniform as imposed by the company. Not to mention, almost all of them looked the same with their customized eyeglasses on. These formulated accessories were adjustable regardless of the weather condition and season.
Sarah Codache"-Also, please sign these papers." I heard a random male voice talking to my mom. Both of them were sitting in front of each other inside our kitchen table. They were many unfamiliar faces circulating within that table. These people were all strangers.
Wake LouchetteI was sitting on this small sofa as I glared towards the environment right in front of our hotel room. My fingers were twirling the pen I was holding while thinking of more similarities between the plants in Prisila compared here in Layvanna. I placed my left hand on the sofa's armrest while tapping my notebook. I am fond of drawing, so I drew the similarities, slightly sketched figures, for visual purposes.
Sarah CodacheThe unfamiliar, habitual smell of a place woke me up. As I slowly opened my eyes, the nebulous and gray surroundings embraced my sight. My back can barely function while maintaining the balance to raise myself from laying down. When I was completely awake, I found out that I was sitting in the middle of this empty, huge ro
Wake LouchetteThe whole team was on fire. We individually moved to get out of this facility. The automated doors opened up to secure our safety. The emergency alarm was horning in red throughout this small hallway. My members promptly followed the instructions I gave to them at the last minute."Lance! Push the button now!" I hurriedly asked Lance to look for the button that activates the barrier between the hallway and that room inside the facility to block the water from spreading.
Sarah CodacheThe vibrant nature embraced as a man ran around the golden field of flowers and herbs with me. We were playing with the plants, following the breeze of the wind."Catch me Snaedis!" The male child's voice playfully said. He was running ahead of me. He used his capability of being the heir to take place to become a god of land someday. Branches were helping him to get rid of me while I continued approaching him.
Wake LouchetteSarah looked so horrifically aggravated as she saw the wound got healed. I guess she has no idea about what she has done. Maybe? I was wondering if that is even possible! Her body kept moving backward, shivering to see my healed hands. My eyes widened in the tense of the magic that she did. I can't believe she has that ca
A panic gripped the whole metropolis, spanning all planets in the other dimension, after the unexpected growth of enormous yellow flowers surrounding them, which emitted a disagreeable and potentially lethal stench that caused people who inhaled it to perish. The odor may be found in all cities, including the provinces and other adjacent towns, as well as in the countryside. Infants were sobbing, and their moms were doing all they could to rescue their children. People scurried away from the scene, seeking refuge in the surrounding buildings and infrastructures.Others who were unfortunate enough to be the first ones in were denied the chance to knock on the glass doors, appealing with others who had already inside to please open the doors for them. There was nothing they could do except keep hammering on the glass doors, appealing with everyone who came in to open the doors for them.
In the midst of the clouds, a curious shadow of an unidentified monster emerged. The heavens parted, revealing a route that led them to an unending existence. When they continued to search for it for a little longer, the sun's beams emitted bright light that caused them to take a step back and turn their gaze away. Because the brightness was dazzling their eyes, they were avoiding opening their eyes as much as they could."Ack!" yelled Nover as he pulled his body away from them. "What type of unidentified beast is this once more?!" he asked, shouting.Cherish, Flora, and Larch congregated on one side of a massive three-tiered structure where it caters to a great number of leaves, providing them with a safe haven from the limited access to sunlight they were getting. Cassius approached Hanaele from behind and dragged he
Hanaele was catching her breath as she arrived at Cassius’ location. All of them stared at her presence like a walking dead people, especially those that argued against Cassius a while ago. Aided by her comrades at her back, they were the Esperer warriors that helped them fight against the monster trees. They were all exhausted and their eyes looked tired. Larch came to ponder about their situation. He didn’t expect them to get tired like this. It was rare to their perspective to see these legendary warriors in this facile appearance they had.Cassius welcomed them with a question, “Where is Sophia?” His question made Nover bitter. He sighed, looking away and thought of negative things about them. Inside his thoughts, he already knew that they were biased to Sophia. He s
The appearance of monster trees was swerving towards the area that Agila and Esperers were unable to mitigate. The pouring of rain made it tough for them to counter the attacks and shoot the bearing. Cherish fought with Larch and Flora, eradicating the showering debris away from them. Hanaele carried Sophia with her bare arms that Sophia's weight was not a matter for her. The rest of the Agila squad members and Esperers helped each other in escaping away from the disastrous scene. It was risky to fight anymore. The monster trees increased their number from three to more than a five, appearing randomly below the land. "Retreat!" Cassius, running with his horse together with his comrade and Nover, arrived. Cherish used her umbrella to protect Larch and Flora when these two can no longer sustain their strength. Their bodies were wet and shivering in coldness as they ran away from the falling debris towards Cassius' cu
The splatting sound of woods bumping towards the rocks, trunks, and anywhere it gets hit occupied the whole place. The sudden breaking noise of branches and the sharp clattering of metal swords gave disturbance to Nover's hearing. These phenomena made him a hard time concentrating on fighting against the tree monster alone. In addition to that, seeing his fellow squad members died in front of him made his desire to fasten up. However, the exhaustion of thinking for revenge caused a decline in his duty to execute the offense well. He constantly covered his ears from time to time while his eyes were wandering around him. He felt uneasy that he failed to fire his launcher on-point. His forehead wrinkled as he closed his eyes in exasperation of absorbing too many events on his brain. He can't even make a step from the middle of
Sophia rolled on the ground, and she accidentally discarded her sword. She kept avoiding the attacks of this giant monster tree they were facing. She almost lost her breath every time she was making an attack, and she knew that this was her weakness. As a result, this incident brought her to this current situation.Sophia curved her body inward, and she looked like she was embracing herself. Flora used her strings to support Larch's triangular attack to counter more than two branches at one slice."Flora! Watch out!" She urged at Flora even though her back was still on the ground, feeling the pain due to her body's impact. Through her help, Flora successfully dodged more attacks from the monster tree. While Sophia was trying to overcome the pain
From the eyes of a man who sees his girl safe, there was a smile painted on his mind’s embrace. Vince was certain that even though he had to fight those branches alone, at least he felt satisfied, seeing Cherish escaped from the scene. His eyes stuck in her direction until she had landed above a normal tree’s branch. When Vince saw Cherish looking at his state, he felt a sigh of relief even though he was unsure that she noticed him sightseeing her. Meanwhile, when those branches were going to attack him again, Vince rolled on the ground and avoided the impact. He quickly stood up to condition his mind.Vince twisted his body as he dodged all the monster branches around him. Just like what happened to him a while ago, he turned in different directions while spreading his arms to fire the bullets toward
Larch headed the entire Agila squad as the members followed him from his back as they strike their way towards the west. The clinging of their weapons placed at each members' designated sides was echoing in the ears of the crowd. Since only the winds' direction made their capes swaying, they can feel the drop of humidity as it touched their sense."Hayah!" Larch expressed towards his horse while striking the rope to make the speed accelerate. The rest of the Agila did the same.Sophia aligned herself at the back of Larch while Flora and Nover distributed themselves at her both sides. Cherish was alone in the line. She felt emotionless, and Vince can notice it. She seemed in deep thoughts that he wanted to figure it out. He kept glancing at her almond round eyes, which shrunk as they reacted due to the current weather. When Vince's eyes spotted Cherish's wound at the side of her forehead once again, his forehead furrowed. He tried analyzing C
Vince Ski and Cherish Annagesini ran with their horse towards the spot where the rest of their squadmates were resting, including their squad leader Larch Laverens. When they heard a huge commotion that happened in the direction from the horizon, they immediately went back to their ways. Nover was the first one to notice the incident. So, he went a few distances ahead from the two."Nover, what do you think that was?" Cherish asked in the middle of accelerating their speed. Cherish is also part of them. She has round almond brown eyes, curly tips hair in a ponytail, slightly straight eyebrows, and peach lips. She appeared while also wandering around the woods."The sounds of the arrows, bows, chains, swords, and strings came from that direction. The splashing of woods and the direction of the wind are different. I am unsure about this, but those things I observed were exactly the same sounds I heard every time the graduated forces foug
