Buses. Stupid buses are always late making me take the taxi. Fuck, I’m not going to make it to the stupid orientation today. Just why would we need to attend this yearly? We’re fourth-year seniors, we don’t need this, in fact, what we need is a rest. From the university, from the activities, tasks, and, of course, we need to get a life. I could feel the glance of the driver at me, maybe because I have been rolling my eyes non-stop while typing away on my phone.
No, Jamie Lia Choi, all you have to do is add more patience. I took a huge breath, and just in time the taxi stops in front of my university where students are already entering. I paid and flew away inside the campus. I was greeted by familiar and new faces. They must’ve missed each other by the way they hugged and smiled at each other. Oh, how touching. Not really, my block almost met every day so we probably don’t miss each other, rather than missing, I’d say that we are getting done with every one of us.
But that aside, I saw Ciara and James bickering, block mates and research partners of mine, standing among the huge crowd. I roll my eyes and smile, “what’s the debate all about this time?” I greeted them with a tap on their backs, pulling them to walk with me to the café located inside the campus.
“Well, some stupid creature here has been telling me that there are alterations about our schedule, even though ‘I’ didn’t get an e-mail about it” Ciara crosses her arms across her chest, scoffing at James, who looked so done at her. “Maybe you aren’t as much of a special student as you claim yourself to be then, Kim” James spats out, both of them following me inside the café. “I didn’t get one as well, are you sure it’s for all of us?” I frown at him, taking a glance at the exhausted James.
“Yes, obviously since the message mentioned the whole block” James explained, standing in between me and Ciara. “Oh, fuck them, always adding unnecessary subjects, not even connected to our course” Ciara curses while pulling out her phone, probably to make another note about it. “The others are already complaining about it, and they said we are supposed to get the new syllabus to Mr. Lee, the ‘Mr. Lee’, Lia” James added, and I turned to him with my eyes wide.
“What? Why him?” I asked before ordering our usual orders and turning back to him. “Apparently, he was appointed as a new department chief in the Anthropology course, which, unfortunate for us, is our course” Ciara cuts in James, looking up from her phone. Her exhausted features scream so much frustration, that, I found it amusing.
“And we have a new professor for the newly added subject” James added, all of us taking the orders. Almost past twelve, no one went to the orientation, instead, we sat at one of the tables of the café, one at the very end of the shop, to get a more secluded area for us to gossip about things, and to start our research as well.
“I’m getting the syllabus later, you coming?” I blurt out while finishing another drink. “Nope, I’d rather wait outside and for you to take ours” Ciara smiles, her dimples showing while typing on her device. I rolled my eyes at both of them, James agreeing with Ciara.
More and more paperwork wore me out. Hours of work for a research proposal and thousands of letters are typed into my document to complete my part of the proposal. “Remember that we need to go to the site to gather more information this weekend,” I tell them, taking a bite of the food. “Oh, about that, my mom insists on going to this newly opened museum, so I might not be able to go with you” James stretches his arms and neck with a huge sigh. I look at Ciara, and she grins, “sorry I kinda have a date” she peeps, and I let out a chuckle, “Fine, but I’m not doing the paperwork but the documentation only, and you’ll have to do the documents with the notes I’ll be taking down after I visit the site” I cross my arms across my chest.
James and Ciara went to go first while I was left here, in front of the faculty of our department. So much for waiting for me outside the office. Anthropology was one of the specialized courses that the university, there are barely any students in the course that’s why the students memorized by the professor. I knocked once, and twice, before placing my ear on the door to see if there are still people inside.
“I see that you’re here for the syllabus, Ms. Choi” a voice, baritone, startled me. A gasp left me before turning to see Mr. Lee. Clean, slicked-back hair with round specs hanging perfectly on his nose bridge. Mr. Lee isn’t an old man who complains about everything and gives hard and multiple tasks to be passed as soon as possible. In fact, he is young.
The slicked-back hair and the round specs, tall figure, and proportioned physique. He looked as if he was also a college student like us, maybe one of the many reasons that many students like him. “Sir, yes” I smiled politely. Mr. Lee had his lips in a tight smile before holding the knob and opening the door to his office.
Just a clean office room. No design or interiors to make the room more, lively. In front of his huge table was his name imprinted on a marble. Xian Brie Lee. He sits at his table, shuffling around his papers to get my syllabus. He pulls on the paper and gives it to me with a smile. I took a step to take it before slightly bowing, remembering that I will get James and Ciara’s syllabus as well.
“Sir? Would it be fine if I can get James and Ciara’s as well? They won’t be able to get it by today, so they asked if I can get it” I told him, holding the paper in my hands, fiddling with a rough surface. He looks at me, placing his chin on his knuckles. “And why can’t they? I made sure to say that you all should take the new syllabus, personally” he raised both his brows at me. “Well, since we are working early on our proposal, they volunteered to do it, and I get tasked with the documentation and taking their new syllabus” I smiled at him, mentally cursing the other two in my head.
“Is that so? Hmm, then I want your proposal next week since you’re starting this early” he smiled fully at me and pulled out James and Ciara’s syllabus, and handed it to me.
I was dumbfounded, standing outside the office. I smiled and nodded at Mr. Lee while I reached for the papers and bowed before walking out. But as soon as I got out, I knew I was fucked. No, we are, not just me but James and Ciara as well. I sigh before starting to walk.Students are walking in the same direction as I am. Everyone walking outside the campus. As soon as I reached the bus stop, I stepped on the bus, I paid, and sat on one of the remaining seats. I opened my tab to take notes and reminders to as what I need to do tonight and tomorrow. If the proposal went well, we would have more time to gather documents and research for our paperwork.I nodded to myself, adjusting the headphones before tapping the stop button and getting off the bus. I entered the building where I live, greeted the ladies in the lobby, and went straight to the elevator. I stood in silence, tapping on my side, growing impatient each second the lift stops by a floor.I sprinted off as soon as the doors op
I met with James on the way to my room. We have three classes with the same time and professors, unlike Ciara, we only share two classes together. One is the historical subject that was newly added. “Didn’t sleep well enough?” I chimed, looking at them both, exhaust was clearly evident in his eyes. The dark circles didn’t really hide well enough. The concealer must’ve run out, or it wasn’t enough anymore.“Fuck off, why would you tell Mr. Lee that we are starting the proposal early? Now we have to finish it within this week” James grumbles at me. Of course, he had to stay awake through the night, maybe a lot more than I did. By the looks of the color of his coffee, he definitely ordered an extra shot.“I don’t know, it was the first thing that came to my mind when he asked. Why? You want me to tell him you don’t want to see him that’s why you let me take your syllabus?” I sipped on my coffee while chuckling slightly at him. James looks down at me and rolls his eyes. It definitely made
“We used one of the studies that studied both ethnology and ethnography, we found some pieces of evidence relating to religion, those, that are not included in their previous research but can be considered and proven, those all occurred in European countries,” I answered him briefly about the topic we chose. “That’s why you’re going to do it early” he asserted.“Well, yes, since it won’t be an easy task, proving that there is more to that study is harder than making another one, but seemed to be easy as well,” I told him. He nodded, pondering about the study we are proposing to him. “I know a library that can help you with this, you won’t mind if I accompany you, right?” he muttered, more silent this time.I frowned at him and took glances at other students who are on the second floor as well. “You know that teacher-student relationship is banned and we can be both expelled, well me, and you can lose your job, you accompanying me to that library is basically helping us as well in our
It was noisy when I came inside. There are no professors present and it was the large hall designated for the last class. He must’ve been a very busy person to host a lot of students in just one class. I spotted James and Ciara waving at me, three rows near the front. I frowned a bit before going down to meet them. “Why the seat near the front?” I asked as soon as I reached them and placed my bag down.“We just want to take a clear look at the new professor, I heard that he is young, probably the same age as Mr. Lee, and a foreign” Ciara replied. “And where did you hear that?” I raised a brow at her before shifting my eyes to the silent James. He looks back at me with his arms up. “I only overheard from the other students he holds. Apparently, he has other classes with other majors, so I had a brief intro of him” he spouted, and I nodded slowly.I let out a small laugh, “so, what is he like?” I questioned, curious about the new professor. “Told me he’s the same age as Mr. Lee, tall, a
The three of us ate at the usual place that we go every time we can’t choose any new restaurants. It’s been hours and the night has come deep and the stars reappeared as we left the restaurant. “At last, weekend, I’m so glad that we don’t have schedules every weekend,” Ciara sighs in relief while we walk to the bus stop. “But we have tons to do because of a certain someone, how is that a happy thing?” James rebutt her and I roll my eyes. “But we aren’t going to campus to see certain people” I looked at James and raised a brow at him and he only shrugged, agreeing, nodding at what I said. The bus arrived and both of them got in. I told them earlier that I’ll take a taxi to go to my parents house. I waved them goodbye and waited for the bus to drive away until I couldn't see it anymore. I stood there for a couple of minutes until a car stopped in front of me and the driver got out. “Sorry I took too long, I got us drinks” Xian smiled at me as he opened the passenger seat door for me. “
After praying for almost thirty minutes, the three of us got inside the temple to offer another short prayer as well and went out. Both my parents got inside the car but I excused myself to go to the site where we will get some documentation. It was a small European-themed museum, replicas of artworks and sculptures were showcased inside. I walked to the place since it was pretty near the temple. I got inside after paying the entrance fee. Different artworks were displayed when I got in and there were different rooms for different themes. Mainly, they focus on religious-themed paintings and sculptures. The paintings between the angels and the demons, and the humans. Every painting was dated back to the 17th century. I let my eyes roam, taking pictures of the artworks that could help. Certain artworks definitely can help us. A certain room caught my eye. The last time I was here it wasn’t here, most probably it was new. I went straight to it and there were only a few people who had ta
The drive on the way to the library was the average distance. It wasn’t that far and it wasn’t that near either. Me and Xian passed by a lot of shops, we had few stops due to the traffic and had one drive-thru while enjoying the music that was softly playing in our background. Soon, we reached the place that Xian was talking about. There are only a few buildings and the place seemed peaceful and calm. Fitting for a café place. He turned and parked the car on the available space that he found before turning the engine off and let out a sigh and turned his head to me with a wide smile plastered on his face. “We might wanna wear this, for some precautions” I look at his hand and see a mask. I let out a small laugh, “talk about no one is going to see or even notice us” I mutter as I wear the mask. I look up at him and playfully roll his eyes at me, his eyes were turning half-circles, letting me know that he is smiling underneath the mask that hid half of his face. We got out of the car a

Pit-pat-pit-pat-pit-pat-pit-pat.Pitter-patters of rain, I suppose since it was cold as well, had woken me up from my deep slumber. Despite being awake, I refused to open my eyes. Laziness kicking me around, mostly on my head, which has been throbbing. I don’t know for how long I had slept but I can tell that it was a bit long now since my arms and neck feels sore. So, it is raining, the rumble that echoed told me so. My brows twitched at the sound of the knock on my door and them opening and closing the knob. Light footsteps careful not to awaken me, and comforting crackles had surrounded the room briefly and it had gotten warmer than it was earlier. The person that had entered my room continued to wander my room. I felt them walk near me. Shuffling around something before I felt the presence just beside me. “My Lady, it’s time for you to wake up from your afternoon slumber” the soft tone, carefully not to anger me, full of respect, rang in my ears.Should I open my eyes now?
