S2| 10. The Lingering Feelings

Seeing Adam putting the firewood into the bag, Ruby widened a smile. She never expected that her ex could change so drastically. Adam was now much stockier than Ed, much more mature, and much more seductive. The last point made Ruby not hesitate to approach and touch his arm.

"Do you need help?"

Adam spontaneously turned around and stared. He couldn't believe that his ex dared to follow him. "What are you doing here?" he whispered as if Amber was near them.

“I feel useless if I sit still. So, wouldn't it be better if I helped you?"

Casually, Ruby walked towards the pile of wood. But before she could touch it, Adam had already jerked her back.

“Quickly get out of here! I don't need your help. Amber could misunderstand seeing you here with me, even if your intention were to help.”

Instead of responding, Ruby looked at the hand that was holding her arm. Stifling a smile, she returned Adam's gaze. "Why are you so afraid of your wife? Is the trust between you that fragile?”
