Chapter 15

Author: Lychee Soda
Derrick stammered, "I-I didn't recognize you at the time. I just couldn't stand by and watch someone get hurt, so I stepped in. I've already apologized to Mr. Spencer."

"Apologized to Mr. Spencer? Was he the one who got hurt?" My voice was cold as I glanced at the group standing nearby.

They were all Aiden's former subordinates. They were clustered together, looking indignant. They clearly felt Skyla was wronged and that I was being unreasonably aggressive.

Then, I turned to look at Aiden.

His face was slightly turned away, but his gaze lingered on Skyla, who was desperately trying to hold back her tears. His expression was full of pity and sadness.

I let out a soft laugh. I reached into my bag, pulled out my phone, and handed it to Aiden.

"You left your phone in the car. I brought it back for you. Oh, and I also sent the surveillance footage from the barbecue shop that night to your work group chat."

The entire room buzzed, a low murmur sweeping through the crowd as people pull

  • Don't Come Home   Chapter 1

My husband, Aiden Spencer, frowned, got up, and went to the balcony to smoke.I looked over. Against the backdrop of bright city lights, his tall and slender figure blended into the faint haze of smoke, exuding loneliness and desolation.Half an hour later, he walked back inside, forcing a smile that screamed of silent endurance."This time, come with me to the company's family day event. Since I'm free this weekend, I'll take you to the mall to pick out a few outfits."Aiden's company held family day events from time to time, but he never took me along. On the rare occasions I asked about it out of curiosity, he would frown impatiently."Those are benefits arranged for the lower-level employees. The slots are limited. As a senior executive, I need to be mindful of that. There's no point in competing with them."At this moment, I really wanted to ask him, "So this time, you don't have to be mindful anymore?" But I didn't.Ever since Aiden moved back in with me, there had been a

Behind me, Aiden burst out in the darkness, his voice sharp with rage, "Why are you bringing her up? I came back! We've already paid the price for what we did! You got everything you wanted! Lily Chapman, what more do you want?"I didn't want anything.I just couldn't hold it in. I felt wronged and wanted to rip apart the thin veneer of pretense covering my life.Aiden and I were college classmates. We met during an event on campus, fell in love, got married two years after graduation, and had our daughter, Chloe Spencer, the following year.Everything happened naturally, one step following the next.I was outgoing, full of energy, and always smiling. I loved being around people.Aiden was more reserved. He was an expert in his field with top-tier research skills, but his lack of social aptitude held back his career.I felt he was wasting his talent, so I put my networking skills to use. Through my boss, I got to know Elijah Holmes, one of the key directors at his research insti

The second time I saw Skyla's name was six months later.I was making a presentation for Chloe's elementary school speech, but my laptop ran out of battery. Aiden wasn't home since he was out for dinner with his department, so I turned on his computer. While searching for materials online, I accidentally clicked on the cloud drive and saw a folder named "My One True Love".Aiden was obsessively organized. Inside the folder, 27 subfolders were neatly arranged in chronological order, each labeled by year and month.Human intuition was a strange thing. Before seeing that folder, I never suspected Aiden of anything, not even the slightest bit. However, at that moment, as I hovered the mouse over one of the folders, I realized my hand was trembling uncontrollably.I sat there in silence for two hours.Inside the main folder was a detailed record of a relationship spanning two years and three months. It was cryptic yet burning with intensity. They started out as colleagues from diffe

The research institute was backed by private capital, and Mr. Holmes was the major shareholder. Mrs. Holmes was practically the power behind him.Hearing Mrs. Holmes' words, my eyes burned with emotion.Aiden stood awkwardly off to the side. Social situations like this weren't really his strong suit. However, Mr. Holmes already made it clear. If Aiden wanted a chance at getting his position back, he had to keep his family life in order and eliminate all distractions. So, he had no choice but to stand beside me.Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Skyla. She was carrying a plate of pastries and walking straight toward us.Her expression was delicate yet carried a quiet air of arrogance. Her back was ramrod straight, and a bandage was plastered across her forehead.Softly, she said, "Mrs. Holmes, I personally prepared these desserts on behalf of the logistics department."I looked at her in silence. Her head was slightly bowed, and she stopped just beside Aiden. Whether thi

I smiled faintly. "I finished the exam half a month ago.""Then, do you have time to attend the company's family day event?""I do."The moment Aiden and I arrived at the family day event, the entire room fell silent for a split second. Everyone's eyes landed on me, their expressions neutral yet scrutinizing.I took it in. They weren't exactly friendly.Over the years, Aiden built an impeccable reputation at the research institute. That wasn't a surprise. After all, he looked refined and courteous and never demanded anything of his subordinates. That group of young researchers practically worshipped him.Ever since his bold, resounding declaration at the hospital spread back to the research institute, people had a lot to say about his affair with Skyla. It was said to be one that was pure and tragic, like something out of a classic novel."Sure, it was wrong, but honestly? It's not that big of a deal. Plenty of men abandon their wives and kids and still live just fine. Compared

Chloe's eyes were red and swollen as she shouted, "Daddy and that lady have nothing going on! You're just being petty! You just want to get me a new Daddy!""Anything else?" My voice was so cold that I barely recognized it.Chloe never saw me like this before. She froze, momentarily forgetting to cry, and obediently answered my question. "Aunt Amelia asked me if Ms. Thompson is pretty. She asked if I'd want Ms. Thompson to be my mommy."My nails nearly dug into my palms. "Chloe, when did you see Ms. Thompson?""I've seen her a lot. Sometimes, when Daddy picks me up, she's in the car. She would ask if it's okay for her to go home with Daddy. I said yes.""When your aunt asked if you wanted Ms. Thompson to be your mommy, was Daddy there?""Yes.""What did he say?""Nothing. He didn't say anything."I closed my eyes and let the rage coursing through me gradually calm down. "Chloe, if your daddy and I separate, who would you choose?"Big teardrops started falling as Chloe cried,
