Chapter 3

Serena was lying on her stomach on her bed, with another novel in her hand. This novel was a supernatural one, to imagine humans come so close to stating facts about them, she wondered if some of them actually knew, after all, if there is smoke there had to be a fire. Suddenly the phone beside her started ringing pulling Serena out of her reverie and she picked up the phone to look at who was calling her in the morning and only to find it was Kylie calling her, Serena continued to pick up the call and before she can even mutter a single word. Kylie from the other end ordered   “Get your wolf ass over to the café in an hour, I will meet you there, don’t be late, bye.” And she hung up on her face. Serena can’t believe Kylie didn’t even bother to check if she was on the other end, wow. It was a good thing Kylie had been smart enough to give Serena an hour as she was feeling lazy today and did not want to leave the bed. She got dressed in a pair of skinny jeans with a baby blue tank top, light blue denim sneakers, a baby blue watch and with her waist length hair in a high ponytail she was ready to go. She haphazardly grabbed a blue denim sling bag from her closet and ran downstairs grabbing the car keys on her way out. Serena’s mother Liza who had been in the kitchen before, called her out just before she closed the car door.   “Where are you going? You won’t be having lunch at home? Check your phone I need you to get me a few things and I am sending you some money” Liza bombarded Serena with so many questions in one go she was afraid to speak for some time in case her mother still had more to say. When Serena still didn’t speak after sometime, Liza clapped her hands to bring her attention to herself so Serena also indulged her by tilting her head to tell Liza that she can continue at which her mother showed her the palm. “Mom, I am meeting Kylie so I don’t know when I will be back so you don’t need to make anything for me and I will bring your things. Is that all?” Serena recounted afraid if she forgot something and the fact that her mother won’t be far from hitting her despite Serena’s age.  Liza nodded to confirm that was all and waved her dear daughter bye.

 Serena reached there right on time and ordered something for the both of them, knowing what Kylie would want made it easier. Just as their order arrived Kylie walked in through the door looking like her gorgeous bubbly self as always.

She came to sit in front of Serena and smiled a very big smile noticing that her friend had already got what she wants. “We are going birthday shopping for the birthday girl… it’s your birthday tomorrow babe.” Kylie squealed apparently excited. “With you as my reminder can I ever forget that it is the day I am getting 21 years old and another year closer to being wrinkly?” Serena laughed or she thought she did. “Do you know you look cute when you giggle?” Kylie said giggling as well. “Look at who is saying.” Serena full on laughed this time all the while pointing a finger at her face which looked so cute and funny. They finished their drinks and left for the mall in Serena’s car, planning on coming back to the café.

Parking the car in the parking lot they both got down. Serena was looking down at her phone, checking the things which her mother wanted her to get and was shocked to see the balance of her account because she definitely won’t be requiring that much even if her mother needed her to buy the whole household stuff and more. And she realized that her mother just sent her a sort of a large birthday allowance and who was she to refuse. She smiled, not forgetting to thank her mama.

Serena had almost forgotten where she was when she heard Kylie whistling making her look up towards the other girl. Following the trail of Kylie’s eyes, Serena’s landed on a group of very hot boys. She met Kylie’s gaze which was already on her and couldn’t help but laugh at her antics. As they looked back towards the guys they saw them looking at both of them, oh, humans have no idea what they will be getting by falling in love with them, only heartbreaks unless they are our mate, sad.

They walked into the mall hand in hand and Kylie was so excited that she was swinging her hand the whole time. There were a lot of people around today and a lot of couples as it seems making Kylie turn toward her with puppy dog eyes that spoke of the torment she was going through by being single, but soon the excitement was back in full swing like she was never unhappy. Kylie dragged Serena to a women’s clothing store. There were rows and rows of clothing and accessories. When Serena noticed two girls who she felt she was familiar with and to confirm that she tapped Kylie beside her and pointed towards the girls.    “Do we know them?” She asked Kylie, knowing that if one of them knew those girls than probably so did the other.  “I don’t know, if only they will turn towards us I might be able to tell. But maybe yes.”  Serena and Kylie felt that it was not so important and they started to look through the outfits.

Serena spotted a mannequin donning a cut out blue colored halter dress just as she was about ask a sales assistant to get it for her she heard another voice from behind her asking for the dress and then she heard the same voice calling her out.  She turned around and Kate gasped besides her making her turn towards her.  “Courtney.” Kate sneered.

“How have you both been? It is been so long since I saw you Serena, I can’t believe someone can become uglier by the day. But I guess that is what you expect from a whore, wolf or not.”  The last part she whispered for our ears only. Brittany besides her snickered looking at us with hatred filled eyes.

Serena’s face looked pathetic at this moment and she knew that, “Well I worry about how my looks change by the day but looks do start getting bad once you start getting older.” She knew Kylie beside her was angry but was keeping a lid on it for her. Courtney giggled at that and said proudly for seemingly having affected me, “Well you can opt for surgery.”

Suddenly, she jerked her head back up again, all the while asking Courtney enthusiastically. “Oh, I remembered. How are your appointments going these days?” Brittany looked at Courtney looking for answers, while Courtney looked outright confused.

Now she giggled innocently and smirked, “I believe your parents are having you see a shrink or someone considering your declining mental health. After all one also gets mature with age but you seem to be going a bit in reverse, right off the hill.” Courtney was seething at this point, she seemed like a cartoon from whose ears steam was just about to come out off. “Thought I wouldn’t remember you?” Serena added. She stomped, turned and left with Brittany scurrying off after her. Serena turned to look at Kai who was laughing her ass off at this point.

She remembered that filthy bitch, alright. They used to be friends, the three of them until a year into their friendship, when a guy contacted her and sent his and Courtney’s chat. In which she talked bad about me all the while when she knew I wasn’t even interested in that guy. She never outright confronted her for it but I guess even a child could detect the changes in her behavior, when she stopped initiating conversations with Courtney and that was about the time when Brittany became friends with the so called queen bee of oh so beautiful high school. And I guess that was that, as Kai won’t leave me no matter what. It might seem ridiculous but there was a bond in between them that just couldn’t be named with just friendship. They were sisters, no, they were soul mates.

They both continued to shop, with Kai being the ultimate stylist and her being the, oh so tormented model. Well as much as she could be while honestly enjoying the spending part. She hoped in this moment that if she does meet her mate he better be ready. His bank account would be taking a hit alongside mine, because that is the least he could be giving her and no she is no gold digger.

They continued shopping and she had gotten a few scandalous dresses, scandalous for her not others since she doesn’t really wear such showy dresses but at the last minute decided to go bold. Some pairs of matching shoes with the dresses, some accessories and bags. They also went to a salon and massage center in the mall. By the end even Kai had gotten a little bit of stuff along the way. By the time they were done they were famished and dead tired so they decided to just have dinner in their favourite sushi house that was in the mall itself.

They rode back to the café, where she dropped Kai so she can take her car. She helped her best friend to get her stuff and transfer some of it to the other car. While the one they will need for her birthday tomorrow stayed with her so Kai doesn’t have to get it tomorrow. Kai hugged her, “Happy birthday in advance girl. And make sure to save up your energy as we will fucking rock the whole world. See you tomorrow.” She went off after kissing her cheek and hugging her once more.
