I stood there stunned into silence, not knowing how to respond to his abrupt confession. I admit that I found him attractive and felt at ease with him, but I hadn't wandered as far as catching feelings for him.

I looked at him, and I felt a bit guilty for what I was about to do. He was waiting, his eyes looking hopeful. But I had to stop this in its growing stages.

“Richard, I...I'm sorry.” I said, the words tumbling out. “I shouldn't have brought up my marriage. It's my problem and I'll manage it.”

Richard's eyes were fixed intently on mine with an unreadable expression. He swallowed pensively and nodded in understanding, “There's no need to apologize, Viv. I'm the one who should be sorry.” He said, his voice filled with regret. “I had no right to say what I did. Your marriage is your business and I should respect that.”
