It was already getting late, and Blaine's worry was reaching another level. It was almost 10 pm, and Delaney was still not home, nor was she reachable.

He considered so many possibilities. Was she safe? Had she finally left him? He felt like he was going insane. The thought of calling the police crossed his mind, but it was too early to report her as a missing person.

He didn't even know how to start looking for her at a friend's place or anywhere else. He didn't know any of her acquaintances. He had neglected her that much and now felt sad so about it.

Suddenly, he remembered she'd mentioned making a new friend at work. That could have been a lead to finding her, but he didn't know anything about this new friend of hers. Shit!

As he paced around the living room, his phone lit up on the glass table at the center of the room, and he quickly picked it up.

His eyes scanned the content of the text he had just received. He had hoped it was from Delaney, but he was wrong. It was from Velda.

The room was dim and heavy with the sad smell of air that hadn't been refreshed and sheets that hadn't been cleaned. The curtains were only partly open, trying to block out the brightness of the world and making the room look slightly bluish. There were empty containers of food and crumpled tissues scattered on the floor. In the middle of the room, under a messy blanket, Blaine lay almost lifeless. He looked nothing like the man he used to be. The thought of Delaney hunted him.A sharp knock on the door jolted him out of his reverie. His heartbeat quickened. Was it Delaney? He hurried downstairs like his life depended on it and opened the door without hesitation. His heart sank when he laid his eyes on the figure in front of him."Mum? What are you doing here?" He asked frustratedly."I decided to come see you since you swore never to pick my calls." Tamara's sharp eyes took in his disheveled appearance and the state of the apartment when she walked in.
