“Dr. Olivia, I know you don't like me. But, anyway, I want to thank you.” Jessica stepped forward, stopping a few inches from me.
I thought she had left with Theo after dinner.
Why did she follow me?
What does she mean?
“I don't get it,” I replied, expressing my confusion. “For what do you thank me?”
If it's for treating her leg, I think we've long passed that.
Jessica has already thanked me at the hospital. If she hadn't summoned me then, I wouldn't have been graced with the opportunity to realize that she was actually Theo’s first love.
Wasn't it too coincidental?
Was it merely fate?
“First of all, I'd like to thank you again for saving my leg.” Jessica smiled. “Secondly, I appreciate that you agreed to let me and Theo be together. Back then, we were forced to separate, and I thought we could never be together. Now you agreed to the divorce..."
"Who said I agreed to divorce?” I interrupted her, finding her words puzzling and her kindness strange, in fact.
I wonder how she was able to make that conclusion.
I might not have a choice in this, but did Theo tell her I've agreed to the divorce?
Jessica stilled, obviously stunned at my reply.
“Theo and I are still legally married,” I went on, unfazed by her gentle facàde. “You're the mistress, yet, so bold enough to step into the Wellington Household uninvited.”
I've seen her types and even heard of them. Never did I expect I'd get to experience it in person.
Theo bumping into me in Jessica's ward at the hospital shouldn't be a mere coincidence.
“As a public figure, Jessica…” I chuckled softly. “Aren't you ashamed of your actions?”
Because they are too predictable.
First, she acted pitiful and scared during dinner. And now, she confronts me privately. Isn't this a typical way of a pretentious mistress?
Jessica's eyes dimmed.
The shocked look on her face faded away, replaced by a dark smile that curled up her lips.
“You're not dumb as I've heard,” Jessica laughed, putting down her Innocence facàde.
“However, Dr. Olivia.” Folding her hands, she snickered. “I must remind you. In love, the one who isn't valued should be the one to leave.”
Indeed, Theo doesn't value me.
If he respects our relationship a bit, he wouldn't have reunited with his first love before we even got a divorce.
“Even if we're talking about who came first, Theo and I were together first. So where's this 'mistress' talk coming from?” Jessica added. “As for you, have you ever been acknowledged? Has Theo ever loved you openly?”
Her expression was both shy and content as she continued, “Oh, by the way, guess how my career has developed over the years? It's all because of Theo's support. In the past three years, he's flown to France so many times, all for me. If it weren't for the resources he provided, I wouldn't have become a top-tier supermodel in just a few years.”
Seriously?
So my intuition wasn't wrong that they've kept in touch.
Theo often went to France for business trips and would be away for several days each time he was on the trip.
“Also, have you ever thought about this…” Jessica added. “If Theo wasn’t trying to please his grandfather, why would he have married you? You’re just the sacrifice of his filial piety.”
It's true that he only married me because of his grandfather's orders.
Funny how every word she said is right. But I won't give Jessica the satisfaction she craves.
Folding my hands, I returned her smile. “No matter how much you say, it won't change the fact that I am the granddaughter-in-law of the Wellington family and Theo's legal wife.”
And honestly, I don't have her time.
I'd rather be doing something useful than getting caught up in this ‘mistress’ drama.
Ignoring the bitter look on Jessica's face, I glanced at my wristwatch and turned to leave,
However, a piercing scream made me halt.
Jessica suddenly fell to the ground and cried, “What’s this supposed to mean, Dr. Olivia? I only wanted to thank you for treating my leg, why did you push me!?”
It seems like I've underestimated her.
We're several inches apart, how did I suddenly grow magical hands and push her?
Stunned at Jessica's action, I turned around to get a proper look at her.
Her screams caused a commotion in no time and several footsteps approached the area.
It's as if Theo’s mother and sister were nearby.
When they came and saw Jessica's situation, they didn't think twice before taking sides.
“Tsk! You must be tired of living, Olivia. What gave you the audacity to bully my brother’s future wife?” Tania helped her up from the ground.
“Ah! Why did you go near this crazy girl, My Dear?” Theo's mother held Jessica. “You know that she'll be jealous of you. What if she had done worse?”
Jessica sobbed.
She wiped her fake tears and hugged the woman. “Although Theo chose me instead of her, I don't want to be enemies with Dr. Olivia because she saved my life.”
So much for being a model.
Jessica should have been an actress, then she would undoubtedly win all the awards in the world.
“All I wanted was to thank her.” She pulled away. “I never thought Dr. Olivia would hold a grudge and push me. Now my leg hurts.”
“You're so pitiful, Dear.” Theo's mother wiped her tears. “Olivia has no right to bully you because she snatched Theo from you first. I will make sure she learns her lesson.”
Witnessing the drama in front of me, I was so engrossed that I didn't notice Theo’s appearance until I felt him grip my arm.
“What did you do this time, Olivia? I thought you were mature enough to avoid unnecessary drama.” He turned me around, his eyes flashing with fury. “Apart from scheming to make Grandpa angry, you bullied Jessica as well. Aren't you shameless?”
Arguing is pointless.
As everyone is siding with Jessica, what's the point in trying to clear my name?
His mother and sister would automatically take Jessica's side because they don't like me, but I thought Theo was sane enough to realize I wouldn't stoop so low.
Disappointed, I shrugged my arm off his hold and walked away.
Besides, if I stayed here any longer, the conflict could escalate, and that would only disturb his grandfather, who's already disheartened.
Outside the mansion, I stopped a taxi and got inside, ignoring the burning ache in my heart.
But the moment I sat inside the taxi, a sharp and intense pain gripped my belly.
My palm rushed to my stomach, holding that spot instinctively.Shutting my eyes, I took in a deep breath to put up with the pain. However, it only intensified.“Where do we go, Ma’am?” Asked the driver who's trying to peek at me through the rearview mirror.”“The First Hospital, please,” I breathed out. This pain isn't caused by the uterus or other parts. The pain comes directly from my stomach, which is weird. But, I've always been in good health and haven't experienced any digestive issues before. Is it because I've overworked my body recently?Probably, I've accumulated quite a bit of negative emotions over the past few days, causing this sudden intense pain in my stomach. After all, the stomach is an emotional organ.Maybe it's acute arthritis.Leaning against the backseat’s chair, I keep holding my belly, wondering if this growing pain will ever stop. “Can you drive faster, please?” I urged the driver. The ride was taking forever. When am I gonna arrive at the hospital? The mor
Olivia's POVShutting my eyes, I sucked in a deep breath to hold down the whirlwind of emotions building inside me. Shock, anger, and devastation compounded my heart at once, leaving me weary and exhausted in a split moment.Strange how the events are progressing so fast. Funny how Theo doesn't even give me a space to breathe. He couldn't wait to take Jessica to the Villa and spend the night with her on our matrimonial bed. They’re so desperate to be together and I'm the third wheel. This realization dawned on me, awakening my heartache. I should have left the moment he asked me to. Then I wouldn't go through this pain. To think that he could even take Jessica to the Villa! When we first got married, Theo was busy with work, so his grandfather and I had taken care of decorating the house. The familiar wallpaper, the lamps, the carefully chosen bedsheets—even our wedding photo still hung on the wall behind them, with me smiling sweetly in the picture while Theo had on his signature
Theo's POVI woke up with a splitting headache, the things that happened last night blurred in my memory. I was taking Jessica home, and then, we stopped at the Villa, and then… what happened next?As I searched my brain for how exactly I ended up on the master bedroom’s bed, a soft voice sounded from beside me. “Darling, you're awake.”Jessica?Glancing sideways, I found her sleeping next to me. She isn't in the same clothes as last night. She wore something else… a night dress, almost half naked.I sat up instinctively, holding my forehead. Last night, Jessica and I… That's impossible.“What happened?” Frowning, I can only turn to her for answers as I still can't recall clearly. “Oh, Theo… Don’t you remember?” Jessica shifted close, leaning in to hug me. Remember what?My frown deepened and I found myself pushing her away. For some reason, seeing Jessica naked brought a feeling of discomfort. In fact, the sight irritated me. Pushing the bedsheet away, I left the bed and put o
Jessica's POVI can't believe that lowly bum escaped my trap last night. Instead of staying around and defending herself, she simply walked away, putting a close to the conflict. I trust Theo's mother and his sister to stand up for me. I hoped Theo could tear her apart. After the old man humiliated me because of her, I wanted to get revenge fair and square and implicate her as well. But Olivia seems different than I imagined. Her calmness gives me a sense of discomfort. It's as if she is hiding some tricks. Not long after Olivia left, Theo asked his mother and sister to go inside… that I'd be fine. Of course, I'm alright. But how can I let go of this rare opportunity in front of me? “Oh, Theo… I can't walk.” I limped forward, throwing myself at him as if I'd lost my balance. “It's too late, anyway. Can't I spend the night here with your family?”But Theo didn't look pleased by my request. I wonder why he can't grant this simple request. “You've already provoked Grandpa,” Theo e
…Olivia's POVSummoning the courage to sign the divorce is probably the most difficult thing I've ever done in my life.Ever since I moved to my own apartment, however, I was able to get a lot of things out of my mind and focus solely on work. I should have done this long ago. Returning to the Villa every night despite knowing that Theo no longer wanted me was the most foolish thing I'd done in the past. Not only did it give me hope, but it also had me wishing he would step into the house one day and take back his words.Well, that was in the past. The sense of value brought by work makes me feel fulfilled and makes me forget the troubles in life temporarily.I became a doctor because of a car accident when I was a child. The accident made me realize the preciousness of life and made me determined to save lives."Dr. Olivia, the vital signs of Michael Kensington, a patient in VIP Ward 9, is stable, and he is about to wake up. You need to go and see him," A nurse came into my offic
…Theo's POVOutside the floor-to-ceiling windows of the CEO's office in the WT Building, the lights of the city flickered in the night.Everything has changed ever since Jessica returned.I had originally planned to divorce Olivia peacefully, but ever since I saw the text message sent by her that morning, something has been gnawing at me.It was an uncomfortable feeling. I couldn't quite put my fingers on it, but it left me unsettled. These days, her thoughts always pop up in my mind. I can't even focus much at work as I always find myself thinking about her.I always find myself hoping she hadn't sent that message and Jessica hadn't committed that mistake. What's going on with me?Even at the meeting today, I found myself zoning out during my subordinates’ reports. Worse, I even caught myself wanting to see her—to explain things. It was absurd. I haven't replied to Olivia's text message yet, grappling with what to respond with.Funny how I want to clarify things. I should be hap
Theo's POV The morning sun shone through the car window on my face, warm, but failed to dispel my inner restlessness.Olivia blocked my contact.I never thought she would have the heart to do that. Her text message carried an angry tone- if only I knew she was that angry. So she was serious about the divorce! That thought alone brought an unsettling feeling to my heart without knowing why. “My son, Mike, has been naughty and adventurous since he was a child. I had him later in life. With my busy career, I couldn't control him much! So he has a free personality and likes extreme sports. That silly boy almost lost his life in that car accident.”Mr. Kensington’s nagging broke me out of my thoughts. Despite his angry words, his face beamed with happiness as he spoke about his son. His tone was a little helpless but also full of pride as he continued, “This time he came to the U. S., planning to ride a motorcycle across the country, but who can expect there would be a serious car acci
…Olivia's POV[It's been many years. Come to the airport, your sunshine will arrive at 10 AM]I woke up to that text message notification from my best friend.Blinking at the phone’s screen, I wanted to believe that I'd seen wrong.Bonnie had been abroad for such a long time that I almost thought that she had moved there permanently. We lost communication recently, and for the past few months, it's as if I don't have a best friend.A smile spread on my lips and I quickly got ready.Fortunately, it's the weekend.Although I've initially planned to spend the whole day resting in my apartment, Bonnie's arrival is more important. A few hours later, I was at the airport, standing in the waiting area and holding a mini banner that had Bonnie's name on it. Now and then, I would glance at my wristwatch.Bonnie's flight should have landed. Almost everyone should have departed the plane already as the area was becoming empty once more. She didn't prank me, did she? Sighing, I turned arou
Theo's POV I waited for a minute to pass by, wondering if the boy would return immediately. He might have gone outside to check on something. But what, though? At this time of the night even.My mind told me to go and check, my curiosity getting the best of me.Who knows, he might be setting another trap which I might fall into. So I got up, sensing no sign of him returning. I stepped towards the door, making sure that I didn't make any sound. As I pulled the door open carefully, I peeked through it first. There wasn't any sign of him in the long empty hallway, but one of the elevator’s lights was on. Obviously, someone has just entered it. What now?Is he leaving this huge apartment building all by himself?I followed and checked the number of floors he was going to. Seeing it baffled me. Actually, he wasn't leaving the building, but going up. The elevator was going to the fifteenth floor. I wonder who he's meeting there. With each moment, my curiosity got stronger and I foll
What promise?I can't recall promising to take him to L.A.Dave stomped forward and stood in front of us, dropping both hands on his waist “Ms. Maya, are you plotting behind my back?”“Oh, Dave… it's not like that.” The Nanny sounded hopeless. “We're only discussing about the weather.”“Really?” The boy narrowed his eyes. No doubt, he knew the Nanny was lying. I can't stand it anymore.I have to make it clear to him. “I won't take you to L.A.”His expression darkened. Literally, he went so mad that the cold look he threw my way froze me for a second. “How else will you repay my kindness, Theo Wellington?”“I can send you gifts from L.A. that's all.”But Dave wouldn't hear of it.I wonder if he did it intentionally or not, but my precious dinner was soon gone. The food I had barely touched. He knocked over the tray while grabbing his Nanny's hand and the glass of water spilled inside my food. “Fine. If you won't take me to L.A, I'll go by myself,” he declared. Despite my anger at s
…Geneva, Switzerland Theo's POV Is this a curse or what?I never expected to be stranded in a city as huge as this. The fact that nobody recognized me or my assistant made matters worse.Imagine us going to the airport and getting denied our luggage. Without our passports, nobody would believe I'm the mighty Theo Wellington. How did the passports even get lost in the first place? All thanks to Jake who had foolishly lost his wallet.Without both our phones… without any money in us, we're forced to keep relying on this little kid who seemed to hate me for no reason.Otherwise, why would he scoop a little food on my plate as my dinner?Hadn't he been the same person urging me to eat well last night?“This is too small,” I complained. “Is this all I'll get?”I glanced at Jake's plate which was filled to the brim with food. It's not fair, is it?“You were supposed to call me Boss, but you refused to,” said the little boy. “That's what you get for disobeying your savior.”Seriously, he
I don't know what instantly brought tears to my eyes. It's probably because of hearing his voice again for the first time after five years.Or maybe because he woke up when I was just about to leave. Turning around, I found the old man struggling to speak through the oxygen mask.I quickly helped him remove it, promptly checking his vitals through the monitor machine for any changes in his system. But his body was working fine which is a relief.I sat in the chair across from him, watching his eyes wet with tears. How did he recognize it was me?I'm wearing a mask after all.“Grandpa!” Emotion flooded my mind and my speech was incoherent. I struggled between laughter and tears as I held onto his hand. “You're awake!”“Am I dreaming, Olivia?” Grandpa Victor said, his voice hoarse and weak. “Did you come personally to check on me?”He didn't know yet that I was the surgeon who performed the operation.I've already planned with the hospital to keep it hidden even after the patient woke
…Los Angeles Olivia's POV Is it normal that I cannot even breathe properly anymore after hearing that Theo was looking for me?No. He had searched for me five years ago. Probably not anymore. But the feeling still lingered as if monsters were chasing me, lurking in the hospital walls. My mind was restless, and my heart beat with unease, wondering why he had looked for me.If Theo had searched for me five years ago, chances are things won't go well if we meet again. Right now, the last person I ever want to see is him.I've tried my best to avoid Grandpa Victor's relatives, but what if we accidentally bump into each other? What if Theo had sent out search parties to look for me, and someone accidentally saw me in Los Angeles? They would report to him instantly and my cover would be blown.“Olivia, calm down. You don't need to be in a rush. Don't you care about the old man’s health and that's why you're here? Besides, you have to follow the hospital’s protocol.”As much as Ethan trie
Cleaning the car is impossible!I've never done such a menial task before; talk more of doing it in public. Damnit! How did I end up like this? Luckily, Jake is here to do the humiliating job in my stead.I would have rejected it. However, the taxi driver's loud voice was already dragging the attention of the passersby. While I stood in a corner watching, Jake cleaned the taxi driver's car to the point that there wasn't a single daint on it. And before the taxi driver left, he looked at me and advised, “If you keep doing this, Mister, your son will forever live in the disappointment of you. With your good looks, you can easily get a job at any nightclub in this city. Those frivolous women can spend anything on you-”“Scram!” I was about to lose it, having had enough of the taxi driver's insults. However, the guy did himself good by leaving immediately.“I say we should deal with him, Mr. Wellington.” Jake wiped off his sweat, looking exhausted. “Even you never asked me to clean yo
I was still bottling in my anger when a taxi stopped in front of us. “Going somewhere, Gentlemen?”“Do we have to go in a taxi?” I complained. Is this how the kid goes to school every day?“My Nanny isn't here. She would have used my Mommy's car. But I can't let you guys touch it because my Mommy's very concerned about hygiene.”Is this boy directly insulting us, calling us dirty?I frowned, staring at him. The boy met my gaze, daring me with his eyes to talk back.Even adults never dare to stare me straight in the eyes. What kind of devil has possessed this boy who only has a sharp tongue?“Haha! The taxi is here. Shall we?” Jake doused the tension once more, and he quickly held the taxi’s door open.He sat in the passenger seat while I had to sit in the backseat with the boy who wouldn't stop glaring at me.It's as if I'd done something wrong. Something I'm not aware of.“What's your destination?” The taxi driver asked.“Little Elites Academy. The best school in town. The only kind
Theo's POV A few minutes later.I was still mulling over the loss of my phone, recounting the important information I had inside it.From the looks of it, the device is irreparable. The washing machine had crushed it beyond recognition. It'll be impossible even for a professional to put it back into good shape. Now I'll have to buy a new phone and contact the company back in L.A. to download the data in it. Fortunately, I always made sure to back up those important data. When my assistant returned, I could finally sigh in relief.I can't wait to get out of this place and continue looking for that doctor. More importantly, I need his phone to communicate with the nurse and the company.“Hello, Boss. Here are your orders.” He came in with a cheerful smile. My lips twitched in annoyance, seeing him refer to the little boy as Boss.“Hurry. Theo Wellington refused to make his own breakfast. He's been whining all morning about his destroyed phone.” The boy clicked his tongue, staring at m
…Geneva, Switzerland Theo's POV “Theo Wellington!” I woke up to the pounding sound inside my head, followed by small rapid taps on my arm. My muscles were sore as if I'd just run a marathon.I took a moment to open my eyes, adjusting them to the blinding lights flashing on my face.“Wake up, you're late.”Late for what?Opening my eyes, I found the little boy standing in front of me.The disproving scowl on his face made me wonder what I did wrong.No. I should be the angry one.Ever since I've lived, I've never slept on the couch before. The experience was agonizing. I wish never to go through it again. “You slept too much. You didn't wake up for breakfast. Now you'll have to prepare your own food,” the boy added. How come?I couldn't even get proper sleep as I kept tossing on this couch throughout the night.I shouldn't have slept much.Glancing at the wall clock, I realized it was 7:30 AM already. That's strange.Maybe I was jet lagged from the flight yesterday.Breakfast?I
