Cassandra’s POV

“So what can we do then? To really set us apart?” Stella tapped her pencil on the table, a pensive look on her look.

We’d gone over most of the details for the collaboration. Since we specialized in women’s fashion, we decided to launch a collection that had the theme of ‘female power’. We both thought it was a great idea, since that’s what we both stood for. We’d created this company from nothing and we’d hustled hard to do it. We prided ourselves on empowering other women by offering internships and career advancement opportunities to women fresh out of school. We also contributed regularly to a number of ‘female-centric’ charities and organizations.

So the theme suited us and our company’s vision.

But now that we’d come up with the theme, we were stuck. We needed to expand the brand's influence and reach. How though? It was a saturated space. The same ole social media posts and Instagram pics could only get us so far. Our designs had appeared in a few fashion magaz

Cassandra’s POV “What is it, Cass?” Stella asked, concerned. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”“No,” I said. “It’s just that, well, I just remembered something.”Was I sure? Was it really the same man? I hadn’t got a good look at him from the street. And he wasn’t outside for very long. What if I were mistaken? But I shook my head. No. It was him. I was positive. I’d met him several times and I knew that face, even from a distance.“You know that man I was telling you about?” I said to Stella. “The one who was kissing Ellie on her front step when I delivered her dress?”Stella nodded. “Sure. Ellie’s little side lover,” Stella teased.“Yeah,” I chuckled. “Well, you’re not going to believe this, but he’s an executive over at Sterling Silver Limited.”“What?” Stella’s eyes went wide. “Ellie’s sleeping with Jordyn’s competition? Jesus. That woman really has no morals.”My mind flashed back to a recent business event we’d all attended. It was a luncheon with a charitable slant. Busines

Jordyn’s POV Opened the door to my house.“Cassandra, I’m home,” I instinctively called out. There was no response. I realized with a frown she wasn’t there. This wasn’t the first time I’d done this. Truth be told, I called out her name every time I opened that damned door. It was a habit. The first few times had been the roughest. I’d waited for her to greet me at the door, a smile on her face. I’d become used to her taking my coat and dropping me keys into the bowl by the door. Then she’d gently kiss me on the cheek and welcome me home. I’d stood in the doorway like an idiot, waiting for her to come and greet me. Of course, she hadn’t.Because Cassandra was gone.It felt like a sucker punch to the stomach. We were officially divorced now. She’d never greet me at the door again. She’d never take my coat and ask me how my day was. I would never see my wife, no – my EX-wife – in this house again. All traces of her were gone. Her dresser drawers were empty. Her favorite coffee mug wasn’

Jordyn’s POVI reached for a napkin to wipe the wine from my chin. When I looked up, Ellie was glaring at me, her hands on her hips. I let her words sink in, not knowing what to make of them.“You don’t want to pick a wedding date?” she asked, scowling.“I…it’s just that…” I stammered.A wedding date? It was too soon. I was momentarily at a complete loss for words. I’d literally JUST divorced Cassandra. The ink had barely dried on the divorce papers. It was too soon. I wasn’t ready to jump into another marriage. Not yet.Plus, I was worried about Ellie’s mental state. Sometimes she seemed…unstable. I was worried it was going to get worse. She hadn’t been like this before the accident. Maybe the accident had tampered with her brain chemistry. I felt like she needed professional help to address her condition. I’d even started looking for a good psychiatrist. I hadn’t broached the subject with her yet, though.“Jordyn,” she said, her eyes still locked on me. “You are planning on marrying

Cassandra’s POVOur assistant burst into the meeting room, her arms piled high with bags of sandwiches for lunch. We’d been in the boardroom all morning, brainstorming ideas for our upcoming fashion line with several designers: Maggie, Lisa, and Brin. We had yet to determine the actual action plan for the clothing line, so we’d ordered in lunch to keep working.“Okay, so we know the theme: “The Power of Women,” Brin said, unwrapping a sandwich. “And we know we want something that really stands out. Something different. But what?”I unwrapped a chicken salad sandwich and bit into it thoughtfully. We were lucky to have these creative designers here with us to brainstorm. Stella and I had been stuck on this for days. No matter what we came up with, it just didn’t seem right. We had to lean into the theme and come up with something that would reflect it.“I still think we need something bold,” Lisa mused. “I’m thinking primary colors. Bright. Something that represents resilience. Because

Cassandra’s POV We reviewed the presentation details on the way to the meeting. We were feeling pretty confident. It was a great proposal. It benefited both our companies and we believed in our idea.At Jordyn’s office, a receptionist led us directly into the boardroom. Jordyn and the company’s project director were already waiting for us. My stomach did a weird flip flop when I saw Jordyn. It was weird. We’d once shared a bed and now we were just business associates.I realized it would take some time getting used to.“Ladies,” Jordyn said, nodding at us. He introduced us to the project director and then gave Stella the floor. I sat in my chair, my pencil perched above a notepad, just like an assistant would sit.Jordyn still didn’t know my real identity and I wasn’t ready to reveal it yet. So for all intents and purposes, I wasn’t Stella’s partner in this meeting. I was just her personal assistant.Stella went through the proposal. She explained our concept of a clothing line with

Cassandra’s POVStella and Jordyn’s project manager left the board room, leaving Jordyn and I alone. “What is it, Cassandra?” Jordyn asked, concern in his eyes. “Is everything okay?”I hesitated, wondering how much I should tell him. I wasn’t even sure if Ellie was actually cheating on Jordyn, although she threatened me, warning me not to say anything, so it sure seemed like it.But still. Was this really my place? Was I really the one who should be telling Jordyn that his future wife might be a cheating whore? I was worried that it might affect our collaboration, yes. If Ellie was feeding her little boy toy from Sterling Silver information about Jordyn’s company, it could have negative consequences for Jordyn’s company, and in turn, for ours. That wasn’t my only concern, though. I felt bad for Jordyn. Sure, he’d done the exact same thing to me, and it had hurt like hell. And for awhile, I’d really hated him. I’d have given anything to hurt him the way he hurt me.But I didn’t hate

Cassandra’s POV I could tell by Jordyn’s expression that he genuinely had no clue about Ellie’s engagement dress. Heck, he didn’t even seem to know about the engagement, let alone the dress! This surprised me. I honestly believed that Jordyn had deep feelings for Ellie. Ellie was his first love. It seemed natural to me that marriage was the next step.“I had no idea she ordered a dress. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I think I want to marry her, it’s just…” Jordyn started, but I held up my hand to stop him. What was he doing? Did he really think I wanted to stand here and listen to him confide in me? About his wavering feelings for Ellie? I wanted to remind him that he’d cheated on me with her. He’d shattered my heart in a hundred pieces with his betrayal. If he didn’t intend on marrying Ellie, then what had all this been for?I wished I hadn’t tried to help. I regretted this entire conversation. I had thought I was the right thing to do, to let him know that maybe Ellie couldn’t be

Cassandra’s POVI stood frozen in spot. It was pitch-black in the elevator. I couldn’t see a thing. My heart started racing.‘Don’t panic,’ I told myself. ‘Stay calm.’But my breathing quickened as I realized that the elevator must have broken down. It wasn’t moving.I reached into my purse, fumbling in the darkness for my phone. I pulled things out: a lipstick, a powder compact, a small notebook. I tossed them on to the ground. Finally, my hand found it and I pulled it out.“It’s going to be okay,” I said out loud. “You can phone Jordyn. He’s in the building and he can find someone to help you.”But as I looked at my phone, I saw there were no bars. Which meant there was no signal. How could there be no signal?“No no no,” I said as my hands started shaking. My mind filled with awful thoughts. What if the elevator cables were defective and the elevator plunged to the bottom? What floor was I on? How far up?What if there wasn’t enough air in there and I ran out of breath? My knees w

Cassandra’s POV “Crap, Cass. I’m sorry,” Dillon said behind me, scampering away from the screen. I hadn’t even realized he’d come home. I’d wandered upstairs while on the phone to sit outside. I hadn’t heard Dillon come in through the front door.I turned to face him. “It’s okay,” I smiled at him. He was acting like we’d just been caught doing something wrong, which was far from the truth. I had no issues with my parents knowing I was at his house. I just hadn’t told them that yet.“Was it Dillon?” my mother asked. I turned back to my phone. My parents’ faces were smushed up close to the screen, inches away, their eyes squinting.“Yes,” I laughed. “Now back up please. You look ridiculous. Dillon, come say hi.”Dillon saddled up beside me. I could smell his shampoo.“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Stoneworth,” Dillon waved at the phone.“Dillon! So nice to see you. What are you doing at Cassandra’s?”“Actually, I’m at Dillon’s,” I said. “See?” I pointed the camera through the French doors into Di

Cassandra’s POVI decided to Facetime my parents. I was feeling pretty stressed about the meeting and I hadn’t talked to them for a while. They always made me feel better and Dillon was out grocery shopping for dinner ingredients, so I figured it was a good time to call.I dialed and moments later, my mom’s face popped up on the screen.“Cassandra, love! How are you?” my mother asked. She was donning her wide-brimmed gardening hat, which only meant one thing. She was trying to cut roses. We had a professional gardener and groundskeeper, of course. But every so often, my mother got it in her head that she should go and cut some fresh roses herself. It never ended well. She either cut them too short so that they couldn’t really sit in a vase, or she pricked her fingers on the thorns and cursed, or she got bored and gave up.We all tried to convince her to just give up on the whole gardening thing. She clearly didn’t have a green thumb. But she never listened.“Whatcha up to?” I asked, su

Cassandra’s POVShit.‘Bad kittie,” I hissed at the cat the moment I realized my camera had been turned on. Not knowing what else to do, I dove down, my head between my legs, trying to get my face away from the camera. Stoffs, not knowing that she’d done anything wrong, just curled up on the laptop.Everyone started cooing when they saw her.“Oh my, what a pretty little kitty,” I heard someone say.“Look at her. All snuggled up on the keyboard. Oh! She just yawned! I saw her cute little pink tongue. Are we boring you, little kitty?” someone else gushed. But through all the gushing and cooing over the cat, I heard Jordyn’s voice, loud and clear.“Cassandra?” he asked.Damnit. Had he seen me? There had been roughly five seconds before I realized the camera had been turned on, five seconds where my face had flashed right into one of those little Zoom boxes on the screen.I carefully crawled off the chair and onto the ground. When I was sure I was out of the camera’s view, I stood up.“Cas

Cassandra’s POVI slept better my first night at Dillon’s than I’d slept in a long time. Dillon and I spent the afternoon lounging by his pool. It wasn’t warm enough for bathing suits, which was fine because I didn’t have one there anyway. But it felt nice to relax with the sun on my face. After that, Dillon ordered what felt like a pharmacy’s worth of medicine for me as well as Chinese food.“I didn’t know what flavor you like,” he said, setting down bottle after bottle of cold medicine onto the counter. I was touched. I’d been sick a few times during my marriage to Jordyn, and he hadn’t exactly been the best caregiver. In fact, come to think of it, he’d often seemed annoyed when I was sick, like my being sick was an inconvenience to him.Dillon was the opposite. He bent over backwards to make me feel comfortable. We binge watched some Netflix while we ate Chinese food. It was nice. Dillon didn’t let me lift a finger, literally. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d felt that at ease,

Cassandra’s POVDillon led me into his foyer.“Well, how about the grand tour?” he asked as we awkwardly stood at the door. Now that we were actually at Dillon’s, I wondered if I’d made a mistake coming there. This was his house, his personal space. Surely, I was putting him out.He seemed casual as ever though as we walked through the house. In fact, he seemed genuinely happy to have me there as he proudly told me all about his house.“I went back and forth between granite and this new, cement-like material for the countertops,” he said as we walked through the kitchen. “I settled on granite, as you can see. I guess I’m a sucker for something tried and true.”His kitchen was stunning. The white granite and the stainless steel appliances gleamed under the numerous pot lights. We walked through the kitchen to the formal dining room, outfitted with a massive mahogany dining room table that could easily seat ten people.“I don’t use this room much,” he told me. “I usually just eat at the

“Well, that went well,” Dillon chuckled as we turned onto the highway. He reached over and gave my thigh a little pat. “Nothing like slapping someone with the threat of a lawsuit to really make them back off. Huh?”He took his eyes off the front windshield for a moment and flashed me a smile.“I guess,” I sighed. At the moment, I’d been pretty impressed about how things had played out in the parking lot. Cocky, even. Dillon had shut Jordyn down in such an intelligent, calm way. But now, as I sat there in that car with the scenery flying by, I felt uncomfortable. The whole thing just felt like such a mess. I didn’t understand how we’d gotten to this point, Jordyn and I. I was angry with him, yes, but I’d loved him at one time. I’d stood before him on our wedding day and said vows, real vows, vows I had intended to keep at the time. I’d been his wife, and I’d thought we’d grow old together. But now we were arguing in parking lots while his pregnant fiancé cast me dirty looks. Hell, I wa

Cassandra’s POV“What the hell do you want?” Jordyn sighed as Dillon approached. Dillon stepped in front of me, shielding me from Jordyn.“I want you to stop harassing my girlfriend,” Dillon said, glaring at Jordyn. Jordyn scoffed and rolled his eyes.“Who the hell are you?” Ellie asked, her hands on her hips.“Apparently,” Jordyn said, his voice dripping with sarcasm, “this is Cassandra’s new boyfriend.”The tension between Jordyn and Dillon was palpable. For a brief moment, neither of them said anything. They just stood there, glaring at one another. I stepped out from behind Dillon. I wasn’t used to seeing Dillon like this, all riled up and super protective. I appreciated where he was coming from – he wanted Jordyn out of my life as much as I did at this point. My family had never liked Jordyn and they had made no show of hiding their feelings about him during our marriage. I was certain that Cameron had overheard many scathing remarks about Jordyn over the years. And since Dillon a

Cassandra’s POV“You don’t mean that,” Jordyn said, his eyes wide and serious.I did mean it though. I’d had enough of Jordyn and his constant interference in my life. When we agreed to the collaboration with Jordyn’s company, I knew it would come with its own unique set of challenges. But I’d honestly thought that Jordyn and I could maintain a professional relationship. I never, in a million years, thought he’d keep trying to barge into my personal life like this. What was he doing? Why was he even talking to me at all? His fiancé, and the mother of his child was currently waiting for him in the gynecology department. Why was he out here, arguing with me in the parking lot? He should be inside, with Ellie!“I mean it,” I told him, my voice firm with steely resolve. I’d tried multiple times to make it clear to Jordyn that I wanted nothing to do with any of his personal affairs. I’d done my best to be polite and cordial. But this was the last straw! I’d just been discharged from the hos

  • Divorce and Regret, His Ex-wife is a Billionaire   Chapter 68: Stay Out of My Life

Cassandra’s POVJordyn walked fast, back through the parking lot towards his car. For a moment, my breath hitched in my throat. Why was he coming back? Had he seen me? I watched, frozen in place as he approached his car. He opened the door and grabbed Ellie’s purse.Oh. He’d just come back for Ellie’s purse, I realized with a sigh of relief. The last thing I wanted right now was to see him, let alone to talk to him here, in the parking lot. I didn’t have time for this bullshit. I had to get to Dillon’s so I could start working again. Someone was already submitting our stolen designs to fashion companies. We needed to get some of our designs out to the public ASAP.But as I started getting into the car, I heard a voice call out.“Cassandra?”Shit. It was Jordyn. He must have spotted me across the parking lot. I slowly turned around to see Jordyn marching towards us, his eyes narrowed.“What are you doing here?” Jordyn asked as he approached. “Is everything okay? Why are you at the hospi
