Chapter 98:

.

As soon as Alan bangs his door shut, Isabella has a long discussion with Dara and Alvin.

Even though she greatly appreciates them for standing up for her, she doesn’t want to give Alan a new reason to hate her again (if he doesn’t still hate her anyways).

But she didn’t want any unwarranted action from him. He had already tried to sabotage she and Archie once. And she was sure he would do it again if he was given the chance.

“Sorry, but someone needed to give him a piece of his mind,” Dara huffs, sitting back down. “He’s a dick.”

“Yes, but I want to move on from this. No matter if Alan was sincere about his apology or not, I don’t want to be the cause of any more fighting. I promised Archibald I’d give him another chance.”

Whereas Riven mumbles an apology, Dara sighs deeply. “Okay, I get it. It won’t happen again. I won’t apologize to him, though. I meant what I said, and I don’t care if he hates me. Someone needs to have put him i

When I pulled away, I wrapped my robe tighter around me and smiled up at him. He was all ready, suitcase packed and flight information printed out. I hadn’t bothered getting ready this morning; instead, I made him breakfast and helped him gather all the last-minute things he’d need for his work trip. “It’s only for a few days.”Archibald sighed, tapping his toe against the welcome mat. Even at the bottom of the step right outside our front door, he was still taller than me. “But I’ll miss you.”I chuckled and pulled him into a hug across the threshold. To be honest, I’d had a rough week myself and wasn’t thrilled about Archibald leaving for the entire weekend and then some. But I wanted to be strong for him as I sent him off. “I’ll miss you too, but you’ll be home before you know it.”Reluctantly, he loaded his suitcase into the car and got in. His eyes linge

Archibald jumped out of the car in a hurry to open my door before any of the valets had a chance. I took his hand and stepped out, feeling like a queen as he gave my shoulder a quick squeeze and handed over the keys to the valet.Live jazz music tumbled out through the door as we entered. My eyes traveled up the high walls, noticing that the club had a second floor overlooking the stage and dance floor below.Colorful lights flashed across a thick crowd of people flirting, drinking, dining, and dancing.“Hi. Reservation for two, the name is Archibald Bancroft.”Reservation? My attention snapped back to him. So he had been planning this?“Right this way.”Archibald flashed a huge smile at me and wrapped an arm around me as we were escorted to our table. It was a small, tall round table with a candle and flow

He was smiling and shaking his head at me, mimicking my pose. Instead of leaning on his elbow, he rested both elbows on the table and cupped his face with his hands, looking at me from across the table."You look gorgeous in that dress, by the way, but what else is new, huh?" he winked and broke eye contact for a moment to admire the dress that perfectly hugged my figure. "I'm glad you wore it."I giggled again at that and twirled a small section of hair around my index finger, smiling down at my lap for a moment before looking back up at him. "I'm glad you wore that suit and tie. You should wear it more often because you clean up pretty well," I grinned and leaned forward slightly to whisper, "By the way, you're really pretty too.""Am I really pretty?" he joked, batting his lashes and letting his jaw hang slack with a smirk tha

"She's just so irritating," I huffed. He looked at me like he was thinking of something until an idea seemed to hatch in his brain."Forget about dinner. I know what will cheer you up. C'mon." He stretched his arm out, and I quickly took his hand. He led me to the nearest bathroom—the women’s room. “I don't think you're supposed to be in here," I quipped with a short giggle."Oh, trust me, I am," he cooed. Once the door was closed, he lifted me up by my thighs and pinned me to the wall, his lips attacking my neck with little bites and harsh kisses, leaving purple marks in his wake.I gasped, much to his delight.I let out a soft moan of approval, lifting my hips in

He watches with an amused grin as I bypass the living room and bedroom, heading straight for the bathroom. When my cheer echoes through the room, he shakes his head and drops my bag at the foot of the bed before walking over to join me.“Have I mentioned how much I love showers? Showers with water pressure and heat!” I breathe, leaning into Archibald’s embrace as his arms wrap loosely around my waist. “I’m not totally against what we did today, but honestly, if I had one complaint…”“I know, i know’,” he laughs, watching me nudge the glass door open. “We will never try that in a restaurant again.” “Exactly,” I hum, wiggling out of his embrace to grab my bag of toiletries and a change of clothes. Isabella has a suspicion that it was bought specifically for her, because Archibald is a crazy person who thinks about that kind of stuff. It doesn’t stop her from drinking it.“Tell me what you did,” Isabella orders before she can talk herself out of it and in spite of the very large part of her that doesn’t actually want to know. “Something something something about buying out the board?” she elaborates with a pointed stare. Because Chantelle, of all people, wouldn’t be bailing unless the ship is sinking. The ship might already be sunk if she’s that willing to abandon what she sees as her birthright. I know.”“You don’t know anything.” It comes out way less cool and way more pathetic when Isabella’s voice cracks on what is definitely an overtired, strung-out sob. “You don’t know anything.”“I know that you’re exhausted and running on fumes and that you’d rather have the kind of sex that’s not good for you and that you don’t even want than get what you need,” Archibald tells her. “I’d say I know pl

At times like this, Isabella sort of wishes that she had.Isabella trembles and wraps her arms around herself, chilled even underneath the blanket.
