JEREMY'S POV Once there was a boy, the nurses hovered over his stretcher as he was wheeled into the special hospital by the police and they pointed at him and whispered things from afar like he carried a contagion. They were scared of him. “You heard about his case too, right…” The voices buzzed around him. “Do you think he's alright?” One of them, a female asked with worried lips. “The police think he killed them.” Another responded. “All of them?” “That's what they're saying.” The voices whispered in hushed tones but the boy wasn't deaf. He could hear them and he heard them, loud and clear. Now, there was a horde of doctors and nurses peering down at the boy and he wanted to gouge their eyes out but his hands were restrained. His eyes snapped to the left, then the right and he realized his arms were bound by leather straps. He struggled against the bonds but they didn't let up. He tried to slide his hands out using his blood as a lubricant but it wasn't enough so he began
JOJO'S POV The phone buzzed and buzzed and buzzed. It was an irritation so I tried to get up, toss it to the moon, and go back to my peaceful rest when my eyes cracked open and my world was hanging on the edge of a shrunken up upside down vehicle. Feeling disoriented with the phone still buzzing, I turned to my left and reality sucker-punched me into focus. The driver's seat beside me had a human-sized hole in the windscreen and a lump of lead dropped to my stomach. Jeremy never wore his seat belts. It came so suddenly I don't remember the first three seconds as I retched on my chest and belly. Jeremy. I have to find him. I have to make sure he's alright. The broken window beside me was my only escape and I wasted no time, trying to crawl out from under the constricting seatbelt. It felt more suffocating whenever I looked straight ahead because the traffic pole had hit my side of the car and my part of the windscreen was completely shattered. If it wasn't for the seatbelt
The woman is visibly agitated as she paces around the beautifully decorated room, her eyes shifting from the wall clock to her phone lying on the bed every three minutes. The maids don't dare approach her in this mood except they're begging for a whip or their abrupt maiming. Back and forth she paces the length of a guest room as agitation simmers into murderous rage. The phone rings and she answers with a little difficulty. “Is it true?” She demands, her voice high with emotion. “Uh…” The man stammers. “Answer my goddamn question!” She screams into the phone. “We entered the doctor's office but before we could grab him, he began convulsing.” Another male answers. “Useless! The bunch of you are useless!” “My apologies Mistress, do you need us for something else?” “Yes, shoot that coward. Make sure to aim where it hurts.” “Yes, Mistress.” She ends the call and her rage overtakes her as drawers are pulled out, the round table smashed in, the TV upside down with two holes pro
Detective Burkely watched the camera feed with a smile and turned to his former partner who was currently frowning with a displeased expression with an “Aha!” look. “You shouldn't be here, Burke.” Burkely ignores the remainder and points an excited hand to the screen. “Someone else was there, see that trajectory?” Steve bristles, “We've questioned the suspect, Burke. There was no third party.” “Then what do you call that, Steve.” “A stray shrapnel, a flint of stone, I don't know Burkely. What I do know is the hunt for Maxim Vongov has ended and you're supposed to be in retirement.” Steve replies sharply. Burkely raises his hands in surrender, “I mean no harm Steve, and I'm well aware of the end of the case, I was forced to close it myself—” “Then what'd you want, Burke?” Steve snaps. “Sorry man, I just thought I'd swing by the office and see if you needed any help.” “I don't.” “Okay okay, I'll get going now.” “Should I send in security to escort you?” “Nah, I'm good. It's
JOJO'S POV This would be the second event of my life I'd have to wear black as the standard dress code but not today. I pick up the red silk from a rack of high priced and tagged clothes and Kendrick gasps. “You're going to wear that?” “I'm thinking about it.” “You do know it's an all-black event right, being a funeral and all.” Mallory quips from a rack filled with suits. “Yeah, and what the hell are you doing over there, Mal?” Kenny asks in exasperation. “Am I not allowed a suit? Not even a Black one?” “Get out of there Mal, that idea isn't even funny!” Kenny stomps over and grabs Mallory by the ear then she does the same to me. She grabs us both by the ears and walks us out of the shop. “Honestly, you both are the worst to shop with.” “You wanna go on a tech date?” Mallory says out of nowhere and we stop to look at her. “Whaaaaaaaaaat?” “Spill!” Kendrick and I yell, earning shocked and disturbed glances from passersby. And she shushes us up and drags us to a nearby ea
Maxim Vongov knew he was a powerful man. Everyone said it. Everyone knew it. What they didn't know was how flawed he was in the areas where he wasn't powerful because he used deception and manipulation to cover the cracks in his formidable armor. His foolish son tried not once but twice to get himself killed for a girl and he wasn't going to let it happen again, not under his watch. SIX DAYS EARLIER… The phone buzzed incessantly earning a groan from the sleeping couple. “Maxxxxiiiimm?” The wife cried. “Mmm.” His wife tapped him harder to get him up. “Maxim!” She yells and he jerks upright. “What? I'm up!” “Your phone.” The phone is dropped in his lap and the buzz from the device cracks his eyes open. “Yes?” The voice on the line is low and sharp and Maxim immediately gets on his feet, slides on his slippers, and moves to the closet. “What hospital?” A voice on the other end answers, the voice too muffled for the wife to eavesdrop. It's 4 am on a Friday and all she can
JOJO'S POV I'm wearing my favorite hoodie— I might’ve picked it from Jeremy’s closet— and am currently waiting hiding near the ticket counter at the airport when a finger taps my shoulder from behind. “Hola!” a voice shouts, making me jump in fright. “Jeez Kendrick!” Mallory whisper-yells at her and I turn to both of them. “What are you two doing here?” I demand. They were supposed to buy the tickets online and send me the numbers and I've been here, hiding around the counter waiting for the woman to call my name and also trying not to look too suspicious to the hundreds of cops crawling over every nook and cranny of the airport. I feel like a freaking addict in the middle of a dope test. “To deliver the tickets,” Kendrick says with a smile. She's wearing a yellow puff jacket, a head warmer, a cashmere turtle sweater under the puff jacket, thick boyfriend jeans, snow boots, and mittens. All yellow. And I'm gaping as I ask her, “What are you wearing?” “Something warm.” She t
Anita wore white for the occasion. It was a special event and she'd taken a liking for the blunt shade but she was going to stain it before the night was over. And she couldn't care less. ****** The man shivered like a leaf as buckets of ice-cold water splashed on him, soaking his designer shirt and trousers, slinking into his Million-dollar watch and rendering it useless but that was the last of his problems right now. He had less than thirty minutes to get back up and get out of this mess. The man is still locked in his hyper-focused thinking when a splash of freezing liquid whips at his face. His nose wrinkles at the odor emanating from the liquid and that's when he decides to react. “Hey!” He bangs his fists against the cage, trapped like an ape for show. More of the disgusting liquid is splashed on him and he realizes the liquid is a sticky substance as more and more of it splashes on him. He hears the sound of
