A kist is a box, also a term for a coffin. The manor is built over the family crypt. – Fiona
It was early evening when they turned off A86 just on the far side of Fort Augustus. Twenty minutes later, they left the lane and crossed under an iron arch declaring they had arrived at THE MANOR KIST.There was a lush green meadow surrounded by a forest just beginning to wake from winter. The further that they went down the gravel track, the more mystical it seemed.A looming gray stone manor came into view. Three stories with towers in each corner. Large multi pane windows that were five feet wide and twice as high. Six were on either side of the large double doors that, unlike the windows, went all the way to the ground. The grand portico of the door was so large that two additional windows were on the upper floors. Instead of going to the front, they followed Siobhan around the side of the large building.Smaller tracks led off to cottages that could be rented shoDon’t worry about the signs. It’s on the family land. Just not part of the hotel. – NessieNessie directed Knuckles to a different tract just down the lane. After a little bit, it became nothing more than a slight path in the woods. Then it just ended.“Are yeh ready to walk?” She asked getting out of the car. Shrugging, he got out also. “What about the car?”“It will still be here in the morning.” She laughed offering a hand to him. “Come on. I’ve something to show yeh.” Knuckles accepted her hand allowing her to lead him through the woods. The birds continued to sing and he could hear other animals moving. The trail disappeared and if it was not for the woman in front of him, he knew he would be lost.“How do you know we’re going the right way?” he asked quietly, afraid that if he spoke to loudly, he would ruin the magic surrounding him.“I grew up here.” She laughed. “Plus, they guide me.”Ducking under a branch and stepping over a fallen tree, t
I know yeh don’t love her like that. But yeh can wait and watch her put on yer ring. – GramsWerewolf followed his wife, Charlotte, and kids along the forest foot path to the manor. He had thoroughly objected to being so far away. Moira told him that she would know if Nessie was in danger before he would. Fiona gave them a cottage with a suite downstairs and kids rooms upstairs. The two sets of bunk beds in each room meant that all four kids had a top bunk. Fourteen-year-old Colton stopped on the trail and waited for his dad.“What’s up?” Werewolf asked putting his arm around his son’s shoulders. It did not seem like that long ago that we were bringing him home from the hospital. Now he had a light five o’clock shadow. “This is really cool, dad.” Colton said. “I’m glad we got to come.”“You better thank Nessie. She insisted that you guys come.” He told his son as he scanned the car park for the Land Rover. “She doesn’t seem very upset about her grandmother
It’s a sisterhood of others like us. I’m lumping myself in there since I’m the only mon. – Papa Dean“You’re not part of the Coven,” Siobhan had told the Saints, “You’re not invited.”Werewolf asked Grandmother Olivia about sending escorts. Dom asked if she could go since she was female. Whip asked if Knuckles could go. Toad knew better and Knuckles had not been seen since breakfast. “I’ll make a concession.” Grandmother Olivia finally said as the Coven gathered near the tree line. “I’ll allow one of yer men to go, but I choose who it is. Do yeh agree?”Dom and Werewolf agreed although they both felt as though they were being duped. The women of the Coven wore simple white linen sheath dresses and wool cloaks with their family’s tartan. Papa Dean wore a cotton shirt and kilt with the Urquhart tartan. None wore shoes. They all wore silver necklaces with intricate knot medallions.Knuckles and Nessie approached from their cottage hand in hand. She also wore a
Take the dress with yeh when yeh go home. His family will want to see yeh married also. – Nana BeeFiona opened the door to the small cottage that her daughter and Knuckles were staying in. The other Saints, Siobhan, Nana Bee, Emily and Charlotte followed her in. To the right of the front door was a small breakfast nook that led into a full open kitchen. To the left was a sitting area with an L-shaped gray couch and wooden rocking chair. Against the wall separating the single bedroom from the rest of the cottage, was a smart TV. A bookcase sat under it, filled with books about Scotland, the loch, local villages and landmarks and of course, Nessie, the monster not the woman. The far wall had floor to ceiling windows. In the center was a tall set of glass French doors with a transom above the doors. The transom held a stained-glass window of the Loch Ness Monster. The doors opened out to a private patio with lounge chairs and a low fireplace. The patio and cottage ma
Holy shit, this is how we got the term tying the knot. – WhipKnuckles stood by the stone alter that stood against the Eastern tree line. Moira had explained that their Coven was a Coven of light and the position of the sun had meaning to them. The rising sun meant new life where the setting sun indicated death. Because of this, bindings and blessings always occurred in the morning light. Funerals and severings occurred at twilight. Grandmother Olivia stood behind the alter, the rest of the Coven stood behind her. Family and friends stood in the open meadow. Several of the Saints had asked about standing for the ceremony and most of the Coven simply laughed at their concerns.“Our hand binding ceremony is not like your Christian weddings.” Siobhan finally explained. “Especially with Trigg in charge.”She had been helping them to put on their kilts and accessories. It was impressive that Nessie had contacted the shop, provided surnames and they provided the correct t
Grams always said that if anyone was still sober after her wake, do it again until we did it right. – Papa DeanThe day after the wedding, the family, coven and close friends gathered at the alter again. The simple wooden box containing Gram’s ashes sat on the alter and the group faced west. As the sun went down, a lone piper played a mournful tune.Grandmother Olivia stepped forward and placed Gram’s medallion on the box. “We are here to say goodbye to our sister, mother, grandmother, friend and confidant. She was our guiding light and the wisest of us all. She was also the oldest of us all. Blessed be, Mother.”Others stepped up and shared simple words and memories. Seanair placed a whiskey bottle next to the box and hoped that she would never be thirsty. “I’m going to miss yeh, mum.” Seanair said and Knuckles thought back to when he lost his own mother. Instinctively, Nessie moved closer to him and wrapped her arms around his waist. He hugged his wife close
Siobhan, is it bad that Fort Auggie doesn’t feel like home anymore? – NessieFour days later, they were back in the clubhouse. Werewolf checked in with his men on duty there and told them that he would be in the office tomorrow. Charlotte had taken the kids directly home where his youngest brother had been staying while they were gone.Emily got on the back of Whips bike and headed for Pop’s Place. Dom had a job and rode off in the opposite direction after long kisses with both of them. Lollipop headed to bed and asked one of the girls to join him. She said that she was in the kitchen for another two hours, but would find him after.Brody was completely confused over the changes at the clubhouse. The club girls no longer looked like whores. Old ladies and kids were hanging out and having lunch with their men. He turned to his dad who was checking in with his officers. Cookie stood up and opened his arms to give Siobhan a hug. Karan took the baby cooing at him.
A dark past doesna mean yeh can’na have a bright future. – NessieThe morning after their return, Nessie came in at her usual time and was surprised to find Zee already cooking. First batch of muffins were cooling on the rolling rack, a few strips of bacon were sizzling on the grill and fruit cups were being made.“Yer up early.” Nessie said heading straight for the grill.“I have an early riser.” Zee said as she heard coffee being poured in the dining hall. Nessie said nothing else as she removed the bacon and set it on the paper towels to cool. The kitchen door opened and a woman walked in. She stopped when she saw Nessie. Nessie looked her over and smiled. She was tall and skinny, almost too skinny. She had a short black Bob with a gray patch on her right side. Jeans and a blue Clubhouse polo indicated that she worked at the daycare. In red block letters, Miss Rye was embroidered on her chest. Even though she did not know the woman’s name, Nessie was su
