I grabbed her by the waist before she could change her mind and kissed her. I could barely recognize the sound that left my mouth when she threw her arms around me and gyrated her body against mine.

She was wearing a set of blue, stretchy workout shorts and a sports bra that fit her like a second skin. It was driving me crazy seeing her in it earlier. Angelica was a walking temptation and I wasn’t sure how I had managed to be close to her for so long without ripping her clothes off and claiming her.

I knew I should be gentle with her. She was new to this—but my body was no longer taking orders from my brain. I turned her around and pushed her against the wall, yanking her sports bra up. Her nipples were already hard by the time I exposed them, a deep pink against her creamy skin. I sucked one of them into my mouth, letting my hands venture down her body.

Her skin felt so soft I knew she would bruise easily, but I didn’t care much right now. I wanted to kiss and suck it nonetheless.

Fair enough. It was unfair of me to expect her to be part of something she didn’t even know existed. This is exactly why I didn’t want us to move into this mansion. It held too many secrets. My apartment was not any better. I may have kept myself away from my family’s illicit businesses but I wasn’t a saint myself. I had wanted to own a home with her, a place that would be completely rid of anything I didn’t want her to know. I could pretend to be a legitimate businessman for six months. But now that we were here, everything had changed. I tried to smooth it over nonetheless. “The cops would never come after you.” “But your enemies would. That’s why you’re training me. I don’t want to die for something I don’t even know. It’s not fair.” She hissed. Since when was I unable to get out of a confrontation? She was looking at me with those clear, innocent eyes and everyting I wanted to say, every lie I had made up vanished. I couldn’t stand the thought of making her sadder than she alr

Angelica I woke up with a start and clutched my chest. What kind of insane dream was that? It was already bad enough that I kept having recurring nightmares about my parents’ death. The one I had last night was the worst of them all.Right after Mama nudged me away so I would use the tunnel to escape, I somehow ended up in Curtis’s arms. What I thought was my nightmare taking a romantic turn was anything but. Curtis turned me around and held a pistol against my temple.“You betrayed me.” He hissed. Then he pulled the trigger. I couldn’t be certain whether or not it was real. Maybe he did shoot me. Maybe I had woken up in an alternate universe where he was yet to discover who I truly was. Or better yet, part of my brain had peeked into the future and found out how I would die. Which couldn’t truly be right. Curtis had explicily stated he preferred to torture the hell out of traitors. If that traitor was me, I would have it much worse. I couldn’t dwell on it for too long. If I stuc

Angelica “Aunt Angelica! Uncle Curtis!" A cheerful squeal welcomed us to Klara’s house, right before I was attacked into a hug from both sides, each kid swinging on my leg. “Hey.” I picked Lizzie up and kissed her cheek, then did the same for Archie. “Hey, birthday boy.” He pursed his lips and kissed my cheek, making my heart melt. Then they jumped onto Curtis and nearly knocked the box out of his hands. “Careful, if you don’t want to have to scrap your gift off the floor.” Curtis chuckled, but he leaned down so the excited duo would hug him. Klara came out having heard teh commotion and hugged us. “You came.” “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” I followed her lead into her apartment. It was different from what I expected a surgeon's apartment to look like. I had thought it would be all white and sterile with minimum colors—much like Curtis’s apartment. On the contrary, her living room was warm with hints of golden, broze and blue. The multicolored balloons on the walls and roo

We returned to the living room one after another. As expected, Curtis looked over at Lavinia and then at me with a squint. "I'll be on my way." She winked at me right before she ran her five-inch claws down Curtis's chest. "Lavinia!" He glared at her. "Don't you mean Vinny? It sounds so much sweeter." She glided away oblivious to my stare. I didn't realize how hard I was clenching my fists until a little hand opened my hand and held it. "Aunt Angelica, are you sad?" Archie asked, holding out a chocolate candy bar to me. "Candy makes Lizzie feel better when she’s sad." "Thank you, sweetie." I accepted the candy despite knowing I wouldn't eat it. Lizzie ran over as well, holding her party hat in her hand. "Aunt Angelica is upset because Aunt Vinny likes Uncle Curtis." Curtis facepalmed. "What kind of nonsense have you been watching?" He sent the duo off to tell Klara we were leaving. As soon as they ran out, Curtis grabbed my hand and pulled me over to him. "I've never had an

Curtis “Mama…” Angelica whimpered in her sleep. What do you know? First, she thought I was her papa, and now she thought I was her mother? I only realized when I was fully awake that she was having yet another nightmare. She was gripping my pajama shirt for dear life, her body trembling as she sobbed about not wanting her mother to leave. I tapped her shoulder gently. “Wake up. Angel?” I couldn’t take it seeing her struggle to wake up like she was trapped in a dream she couldn’t wake up from. Without thinking, I kissed her. If she couldn’t wake up, at least her dream could take a better turn. Right? She finally forced her eyes open, yelling my name as she sat up. “Was I the hero or villain in your dream?” I asked jokingly. She touched her lips and blushed when she caught me staring at her. Trying to mask her embarrassment, she said, “The guy who kissed me.” “Oh yeah? We should make that real.” I offered my lips, which she kissed in her sleepy state. I would have wanted to go f

I groaned when Angelica's phone rang. Who the hell had such awful timing? She took it out of her pocket. "It's Spider."Of course it was. That was the only person who would call her regardless of the time and quite frankly, the only person she ever talked to. She answered the call and I overheard one side of it. "Are you out of your fucking mind? I tried to call a million times, thinking something happened to you! I even dropped by your house and now you tell me you fucking passed out?" She paused to listen to Spider and growled. "What about the person you wanted me to meet?" Spider said something that made her expression change. I didn't like whatever it was. It hadn't even been an hour since her nightmare. The last thing I wanted was for her to be distressed when the plan had been to help her let off some steam so she would sleep better. When she got off the call, she looked apologetic. "I have to go.""At 2am?" I was certain it was almost 3am. I wasn't sure about the safet

Angelica I wanted to kill Spider. He had been the one to tell me about someone who wanted to meet me and made me leave Klara’s house as soon as dinner was done, only to ghost me. And after about a thousand calls went unanswered, I gave up on trying to get a hold of him. Then he called at the least convenient time and asked me over. He shielded his head as soon as he opened the door. “Very smart. You do know I want to kill you.” He was quick to rush back to the kitchen and bring a bottle of wine and a stem glass. “Red?” “I would like to remain sober and you better start talking.” I snapped. He gave up trying to cozy up to me. “I was going to call you over earlier. But the person I want you to meet…well, they are not ready to see you yet.” Who was he talking about, anyway? He was being so mysterious about it that I couldn’t stop my mind from running wild. “Did you get a girlfriend? Scared I’ll tell The Viper all about her?” “The Viper is not the boss of me.” Yes, he is. I thou

Curtis didn’t immediately process my words. When he did, his eyes blazed into mine. “Are you sure?” I nodded. He cupped my face, his eyes filled with desire. He lowered his lips to mine in a kiss, only to break it a few moments later. “This is irreversible, you know.” “Oh my God, just shut up and kiss me already.” He laughed. “Okay.”He picked me up and lowered me onto the bed, sitting me on the edge. My heart raced a mile a minute as he traced his fingers down my body. The chill I felt when he hiked up my riding top had less to do with the cool morning air and more to do with the man coaxing my clothes off my body. His lips caressing my skin had never felt this intense. I was soaking by the time he kissed a trail down my core and flicked my wetness with his tongue. I arched my back off the mattress, feeling like I could combust in pleasure. “You’re so wet.” He smirked up at me right before he dove his tongue into me. My insides clenched. I couldn’t wait anymore. I wanted him

Angelica"What is it like being a mother?"Klara paused with a spoon of chocolate ice cream halfway towards her mouth. I only realized how odd my question was when I saw how she was looking at me. I dug into my ice cream and shoveled a spoon into my mouth to calm myself down."Why would you ask?" she asked. "Are you planning to have kids?"I was glad I wasn't looking at her so she wouldn't read my mind—not that I still believed shrinks could read minds but it was awkward nonetheless."Maybe," I gave a vague answer. Considering Curtis's stance on kids, her surprise was understandable. However, I didn't want to tell her I was pregnant yet. It didn't feel right to tell anyone else before Curtis."Well," she shrugged. "That's a broad subject. But I had all these plans for my kids. Angelica I groaned as I forced my eyes open, adjusting to the blinding light that had just been flickered on. I didn't know how long I had slept. Hell, I wasn't sure if it was day or night. There was no window in this dingy cell and the door was a solid hank of metal that didn't allow any light through it. The only source of light was the offensively bright bulb above me, which had been kept off until now. I had alternated between sleeping and pacing in the dark the whole time and it was driving me crazy. The only thing I could feel was the chains around my wrists and ankles, reminding me that I wasn't dead yet. I didn't know how long had passed since Curtis interrogated me about The Viper. It could be a day, a week, or a year. Hell, it could be ten years for all I knew. I looked down at my stomach and my lips twitched. At least there was a way to know if months had passed. My belly would bulge out. This was Curtis's idea of torture. To be fair, solitary confinement was one of the

Curtis“Angelika Giannelli, Angel of Death…is there any other identity I should know of?” I mocked.“Tell me everything about The Viper,” I demanded. She averted her gaze, dragging the long chains with her so she would walk up to me. I smirked when she stopped, her radius finally running out.“Is this necessary?” She bit back.Yes, it was. This woman killed Miles right under our noses and we didn’t think she was at fault. She played us all like a violin with that innocent smile on her face, all while taking out one Arciero after another and pitting us against each other. However, that was not why I was here.I pointed at her chains. “That will be the least of your problems. Answer me.”She shook her head. “I can’t tell you anything. You’re going to kill me anyway. Just do it.”“I knew you would say that.” I grinned. Someone with her skill could endure a lot of pain.Besides, I couldn’t bring myself to torture her. At least not physically anyway, which was odd, considering how willing

Angelica I needed my head examined. Was I seriously considering having this child? I had bought a dozen pregnancy test kits in the hospital’s pharmacy and couldn’t wait until I got to my hotel room, so I took the tests right there in the hospital washroom. Unsurprisingly, all of them came positive. It was unbelievable. I didn’t know what I thought pregnancy felt like but this was not it. I had expected a little more drama. Aside from my boobs feeling like they were about to fall off, the doctor mentioned I was lucky enough to have a morning sickness-free pregnancy. Maybe that was why I still couldn’t believe I had an actual baby inside me. It sounded like a joke—until I remembered I had to tell Curtis. Between upgrading and downgrading my way through as many cars as possible in the last two months, and spending each of those nights at a different hotel, I had about a thousand dollars to my name. It was a drop in the bucket in relation to how much I needed to bring up a child. I

AngelicaI felt like crap. Where the hell am I? I wondered. I forced one eye open and squinted, wincing from how horribly my head hurt. I patted around for my phone and remembered dropping it the night before. I hadn’t stopped to pick it up. I was too busy running for my life with Curtis hot on my tail. I didn’t know how he found me but I wasn’t going to be able to hide from him forever, I guess. My plan was perfect if I do say so myself. I ran around the city, leaving Curtis a trail that would make him think I was headed for Arcron, then I circled back and returned to Silverwood, where I rented two apartments; one in my name and the other under Klara Arciero. I stayed at neither. I spent every night at a different motel far from both apartments. The apartments were only a way to keep Curtis busy if he found out I was still in the city. Which is why I couldn’t understand why the fuck I thought it was a good idea to check out my fake apartment. I was yet to enter the building when

CurtisTwo months later. Why was I still on this wild goose chase? I hadn’t caught a whiff of my wife even though I felt I had searched the whole of West Auburg. She couldn’t have left the country. There was only one person capable of helping her get a fake passport and he was currently on our side. Sometimes I could swear she was leaving me a trail. Though when I got to it, she was gone like a puff of smoke. I was more frustrated by the realization that the longer it took to find her, the farther away she could go. If she found a way to get a fake passport from somewhere else, she could be halfway across the country and there was nothing I could do about it. But I wasn’t giving up. I meant it when I said I would tear down the whole world to find her. I was not giving up now. I was still staring at the road with my hands gripping the steering wheel. What if I was approaching this from the wrong angle?I took a U-turn at the next exit and returned home. Klara was visiting, which was

The Viper “Angelica left.” I glared at Spider. “What do you mean she left?” He shrugged, letting me know there was nothing else to explain about it. She ran away. “And you let her?” He scrunched his nose. “You know there’s no such thing as ‘letting’ with Angelica. You could lock her up in a cage with an active electric field all around it and she would still find a way to leave.” His words conjured up a memory of that feisty little kitten she once was. She’d been looking for me for a year and I knew every bullet she put between a target’s brows, every throat she sliced was to get my attention. She did get it, but it was way too much than she bargained for. She ended up in my dungeon after putting down one of my most loyal men. I made sure the shackles were way too small for her to wiggle her hands free, and the chain was too short to be of any use. I was going to decide whether she was worth keeping that night but I walked into the dungeon only for her to head-butt me and make

CurtisLyra Giannelli, now known as Eloise Dalton, was as hard to find as her sister. I already knew she was Samantha’s cousin from overhearing their argument but I still couldn’t find her, not even with Giancarlo’s help. Eventually, I had to ask Samantha and I had to promise not to harm a hair on her head before I got any useful information.Good, because I didn’t plan to hurt her. She was more useful to me alive, anyway.I watched as the debate played out on her face, if she would be able to run past me if she tried. She decided against it. Smart girl. I didn’t track her down just to let her escape. She sat down opposite me. “Make it quick. I have to get home.”“Of course.” I let her settle down before I asked what I knew she was already expecting. “Where is she?”“Who?”“Don’t play dumb with me.”She crossed her arms at her chest. “What do you expect me to tell you? That I know where to find your wife? Why would I know that if you don’t?”I knew what she was worried about. “Look, I

Lyra “Come with me.” Angelica urged me. When we made it to her car, she had floored it out of the Arciero mansion’s garage and only stopped about half an hour later. We were far from the Arciero mansion and certainly not being followed. How nice of her to ask if I wanted to leave with her after grabbing me without much choice earlier. I was yet to figure out why we were running away. Wasn’t Curtis her husband? So what if her maiden name was a little different from what everyone thought? “Why?” I asked. “You said your life is in danger. I don’t want anything to happen to you.” She said frantically, and I knew she was hiding something. “Curtis might just take his anger out on you.” “I’ll be fine.” I assured her. Samantha was my cousin. Not biologically, but if the Carlo she always talked about was Giancarlo Arciero as I was starting to think, Curtis wouldn’t hurt me. And Andre…well, I wasn’t about to put Angelica in more danger than she already was in. “No one wants to mess with
