Morgana put on the outfit she thought most appropriate for her first day working as a policeman's secretary. A tight, mid-thigh skirt in gray. A light pink dress shirt and high heels. She kept her dark, wavy hair loose.
She picked up her cell phone and purse, looking at the gun on the bed.
- I won't need you. What there are most in a police station are guns...
She let out a deep sigh before putting the gun under the mattress. She grabbed her car keys and headed toward the parking lot of the building. A minute later she was on her way to the police station.
As soon as she crossed the huge entrance doors, she felt her body freeze. She was not the kind of woman who felt fear, but she was a member of the Mafia and was about to infiltrate high-ranking police officers. Everything is so crazy!
She stopped in front of the elevator and pressed the button.
- Do you need help?
A gentle voice made her turn her face quickly. A blond man with a lot of hair gel was smiling at her. He was wearing a uniform, which means he works as a patrol officer.
- I'm looking for Detective Bale.
- Hmm. Bale doesn't usually receive visitors. No detectives, really. Do you want to make a report?
Now he was more serious and concerned.
- No, I'm just his new secretary. The agency sent me here.
Morgana said exactly what was in the folder. Insiders at the national agency took care of redoing her file so that she would be hired as Will's secretary.
All very well planned.
- Oh, this is good. The other one was very messy and he had to get her attention all the time.
The blond boy smiled as he said it. At that moment Morgana deduced that nobody knows what really happened to her.
The elevator arrived and they got in together. He pressed the button for the floor where Will worked.
- I am Petter.
- Morgana.
They both hold hands. He smiles in a gentle way. She even thought he was smiling too much.
- So, did he fire her for being so messy?
she asked curiously.
- No. She resigned herself when she sent an e-mail saying she had to go to Texas to take care of her mother and couldn't stay in New York. Will has been lost since then, you've come at the right time, Morgana.
The brunette just shook her head. Then she forced herself to smile, as she was not used to doing that.
- Thank you, Petter. I'll do my best.
- That's nice. This is the floor he works on, just ask and they'll take you there.
Petter said as soon as the elevator door opened. She smiled once more and then left in search of her new boss who is also her target and who will meet a fatal fate.
As she crossed the floor, she decided to ignore the infernal noise of the telephone ringing and people talking at the same time. She also ignored the malicious glances in her direction, because she was used to them. Thanks to a lifetime of intense training to be the killing machine she is today, her body was shapely and attractively curved.
She was used to attracting attention.
- Hello, Miss. Are you lost?
A tall, strong young man stopped in front of her, making Morgana stop walking. He was handsome and had a goatee. He didn't look as smiling as Petter, but he had a very charming smile.
- Actually I'm looking for my new boss. William Bale. The agency sent me.
The huge man in front of him shook his head positively.
- It's the new secretary. Good timing. That's his office.
He points to an office with glass walls, but covered with blinds.
- Thank you.
- I am Reymond. But now that we are friends and will be working together you can just call me Rey.
"That one really knows how to talk to women."
She thought extending her hand to Rey.
- Morgana.
She smiled at him and walked towards Wil's living room. For some reason she was nervous. Before she even opened the door, the man in that picture invaded her thoughts making her a little uneasy.
She was in the police department and she was a criminal. Nervousness is quite normal.
So she swallowed this same nervousness and erased William's image from her head. Then she knocked on the door.
- Rey, if it's you, you can leave.
The voice was very thick and raspy.
- It's not Ray.
She answered. She knocked again, and got no answer. She was about to knock again, but the door was opened by Will.
When Morgana saw him up close and personal, she remembered the beautiful man from the photo. And up close he was even more handsome.
Will stared at her in confusion.
- May I help you?
- Yes, I am your secretary.
He let out a relieved breath.
- Finally. I thought the agency had forgotten about me. Come on, you can come in.
Morgana enters and observes him closing the door. Will's physique was marked by a light social shirt with all the buttons open. Only the last ones were fastened. Morgan hid well the attraction she felt at that moment. A handsome detective with messy brown hair and eyes as dark as night. A scruffy, charming beard.
Morgana eventually realized that although the man in front of her was handsome, he was totally washed up.
- Well, not just anyone can work in the police department, right? They had a very strict selection process, so here I am.
She lied easily.
Will smiled, nodding his head in agreement. Then he walked to his desk.
- You're right. Well, since we introduced ourselves, I have to say. I'm going crazy with so many appointments. Since my last secretary quit, I'm the one who's been organizing my schedule. This means that I'm scheduling appointments on top of other appointments, because I forget what I've already scheduled and it all ends up with me like this. I'm scaring you, aren't I?
Will's speech made her laugh.
- I don't scare easily and I understand your situation. If you show me where my desk is I can start organizing your schedule right now.
- Oh, that's wonderful. Come, I'm leaving to meet the Captain and I'll take you to your desk.
Will ran his hand through his messy hair, without noticing that Morgan admired him.
- I need you to tell me also when you are leaving for lunch.
- Okay.
She agreed, still standing there, watching him try to look like a detective that everyone takes seriously.
She smiled again, without realizing it.
- You are in a hurry, aren't you?
- Yes, I'm late and I can't find my cell phone.
Soon Will began to rummage through the papers on the table. His shirt looked wrinkled and out of his pants.
Morgan took a step forward, picking up the cell phone that was behind the computer.
- This cell phone?
His dark eyes grew relieved.
- Thank you. I'm usually not this agitated.
Morgan smiled again.
- If I may...
She opened her purse and took out a comb. She began to comb his hair, which was quite messy. Then she finished buttoning the last buttons of Will's shirt, lastly passing her hand on his shoulder and taking a step back.
- That's better. I suggest you tuck your shirt into your pants, sir.
Will hadn't expected this attitude from his new secretary, but at least it calmed him down. He did as Morgana suggested and smiled. A very beautiful smile.
- Thank you, I look like a detective now.
- Yes.
He smiles.
- Shall we go?
Morgana just shakes her head in a yes and follows him, silently letting out a nervous sigh.
She followed Will to a table outside his office. There were papers on the table in such a way that it covered the entire table.
He ended up looking at it dull.
- Deise was very disorganized.
- Well, that explains why I didn't see this table when I walked by.
- É... Now I have to go. I'll be back in a few hours, if you need me, just call me. My cell phone must be saved in the address book inside the computer. Oh, and please, if my ex-wife calls, tell her I died.
Morgana smiled again without realizing it. Then she picked up a notepad lost in her question papers.
- Okay, what's her name?
- Mary.
The subject ended with a "see you later" from Will and with Morgana watching him cross the floor without being able to look away from him.
She didn't know why, but she really couldn't stop looking at him as Will walked away. Only when he reached the elevator, got in, and turned his body around to meet her eyes on him, did Morgana's eyes dart to her notebook.
That morning was rainy. It was early spring and even though the weather was unseasonably cold, the whole city was different. There were flowers on the trees and some blown to the ground because of the recurring rain and windy weather that week.- What are you thinking? The voice made Will turn away from the window. He watched his friend enter his office without asking permission, but decided not to remind him that he had to knock before entering just because of the extra cup in Rey's hand.He needed caffeine.- I was just noticing that it was raining. I hadn't realized.- Practically all night.Rey replied and held out the coffee cup for Will.- It's hard for you to notice anything, you live with your face buried in your computer.Rey was not wrong. Morgana didn't really know what she was doing. In front of her a coffee machine with countless options to choose from. But being a workaholic who practically lives in the police station, I suggest extra strong.- Sugar?Peter shook his head thoughtfully.- Would Will prefer sweetened? Morgana's statement made Will very upset. He remained eating at the hot dog stand even after Morgana returned to the department.Rey and he shared the same desire to walk into the department and take it out on all his fellow officers.
