Kiaria

"That's my Auntie Yumi, Io. Aunt Yumi, please don't embarrass me. He's a guest." When my father said his name a while ago, it took me a second to process who he was. Io Hemming, the playboy millionaire. Every week his new girlfriend would be the face of the tabloid newspapers. I should know. My mom has a subscription of a tabloid paper for their crossword puzzle in the back. She leaves her paper on the countertop every morning which I read while I drink my morning cup of coffee. You had to wonder what did all these women see in Io Hemming anyway. Well, now that he's infront of me looking at me like I'm the love of his life, I know why these women would fall for him. He was handsome, smooth, rich and the look in his eyes could make any woman feel special.

"I heard he's your boyfriend from your mom. When your grandmother hears about this, she'll scold you," my Aunt Yumi warns me.

"Aunt Yumi, you guys know I'm a pretty good judge of character. Io, tell my aunt who I am to you. Go on." I look at Io and nudge my head towards my aunt.

"Kiaria is my mate. To me, there is no other woman before her." Io looked at my aunt with such conviction, yet she didn't buy it.

"Uhm, tell that to TMZ," was all she said.

"Yumi, Io is a guest in this house. If you have nothing nice to say, please keep it to yourself." My mom was defending Io? That was odd, but it made me feel better. My father's guests were eavesdropping and I didn't want to create a scene and embarrass my parents.

We were able to have dinner in peace. After shifting into my wolf, I was terribly hungry. Io looked at me while I ate my food with gusto. He seemed to enjoy watching me eat.

"I'm stuffed." I lean back on my chair. "I wonder what's for dessert though," I whispered to Io while dabbing my lips with a napkin.

"You say you're stuffed, but you're thinking of dessert? This is one of the few instances I've seen a young woman eat. Usually I'm in the company of women who prefer to starve themselves." The comment earned him a grunt from my aunt. "So what do you think is for dessert?"

Before I could answer, my mom's staff came in and served us little ceramic bowls. My favorite, leche flan. I took my dessert spoon and dug in, letting the sweet vanilla flavor swirl in my mouth.

"Oh my Goddess. This is so good!" I glanced at Io who had his eyes closed savoring the taste. I looked at all the other guests and they had the same expression. My mom's flan was one of her best sellers in her bistro. The tourists would always come back for her flan before they left to go home.

After dessert, some of my father's guest took their leave while some lingered. My father invited all of them to play pool and darts downstairs at the basement where the family rec room was located. He then asked me and Io to come to his office. Him and my mother needed to speak with us.

I sat down on the couch of my father's office with Io and his friend Marcus. Marcus was a quiet man and followed Io's every word without complaint. He was also busy with his phone most of the time, whispering in Io's ear from time to time.

My father came in and poured some drinks for Io and Marcus and sat at his desk. My mother closed the door behind her and sat in one of the chairs in front of my dad's desk.

"So I guess everyone knows Kiaria is adopted." Io nodded his head.

"Okay. First and foremost, I want to apologize to you, Kiaria, because your mother and I didn't tell you you are a werewolf. Actually, we thought it was a prank when we read the letter of the person who entrusted you in our care, but when we went through the baby bag which was left at our doorstep some eighteen years ago, it was filled with cash." My father opened one of the drawers of his desk and took out a sheet of paper which was wrapped in plastic to preserve it and a necklace with a locket that had a Crescent moon with stars surrounding it. "Kiaria, the locket was on you when you arrived on our doorstep. Since the letter told us it was imperative we keep your identity secret, your mother and I decided to hide the necklace until you become of age. Here, this is yours."

"The locket of the High Priestess Celeste!" Io exclaimed. "So it is true then. You are the daughter of Celeste and Blake!"

"Seems Io knows something about your parents, Kiaria. Here read the letter." My father pushes the paper wrapped in clear plastic towards me so I could read it.

It read:

Tonight, this baby girl is now an orphan. She is a daughter of a High Priestess and an Alpha and is prophesied to become a powerful werewolf when she comes of age.

I have met you during the travels of the High Priestess and I know you would be good parents to her. Do keep her identity a secret. If she is found, the wolves who killed her parents will not hesitate to kill her as well.

As the High Priestess would always say, "If in doubt, follow the signs." Look to the stars and the moon for they shall aid you through your journey.

"Over the years, that is what your mother and I did, we followed the signs, we looked at the moon and the stars. We first thought it to be literally the moon and the stars in the sky. Boy, were we wrong! Turns out, we only had to look at the locket. When the data in my calculations did not make sense, I look to the locket for a sign and I have never made a wrong decision when it comes to business. The money that was in the bag that came with you Kiaria, I invested to make our very first million dollars and continued investing until it ballooned to what we have today. I put money in a trust fund until your eighteenth birthday. Happy Birthday, Kiaria!" My dad retrieves a folder from his desk and pushes it towards me. I pick up the folder and my eyes go wide. I am now a multi-millionaire.

"Don't spend it all on a car." I laugh. My parents know me so well. Actually, that was the first thing that came to my mind.

"Now, how did I stumble upon Io? Of course, through your locket." My father leaned back in his chair. "A bottle of your red wine was already on my desk when I came to the office one morning. Every time I brought the locket close to it, it would sparkle and it wasn't the typical glow I usually get when I make important business decisions. This sparkle went through all the stars then inside the heart of the moon."

"I used all my connections to at least have a meeting with you, but you were either away on business or were at your vineyard. I tried getting a hold of you at your vineyard, but I could never get through. It was frustrating."

"One morning I was reading the paper about your family's charity event and the locket sparkled once more and I knew I could reach you there. I made a hefty donation to your family's charity and that got me an invite to your party."

"I knew I couldn't get you to come here to Montana without a business proposal so, I promised you an investment and to buy bottles of your wine for my wife's restaurant. I gave you my card, praying you would come in time for our party and lo and behold, you did. The stars have aligned themselves for you two to meet."

"When you said Kiaria was your mate, I knew the locket was telling me both of you were soulmates. I was right. However, before you run off with me daughter, I want you to get to know each other. Like regular people do." My father was very sharp. He discovered there was a connection between Io and I and he had made it happen.

"Winston, Mrs. Wright, Kiaria and I, we will have to undergo a mating ceremony soon. I become weak, my pack becomes weak, the longer we are apart. I know both of you, even Kiaria here, are skeptical, but the fated mate is one of the werewolves utmost law. No one should get in the way of the bond of the fated mate."

"Well, whenever Kiaria is ready. When she says it is time, then we won't get in the way even if it means my heart, breaking in half." My mom broke down in front of us. I walked to her and rubbed her back, hoping my touch could console her.

"I have one small request if I'm to agree to this courtship Kiaria wants," Io said.

My dad leaned on his desk. "Sure, what is it?"

"May I and my Beta, Marcus, stay at your guesthouse? Now that I've found my mate, I don't want to let Kiaria out of my sight. I would even prefer attending school with her."

"Sure, the guesthouse has two small bedrooms. Good enough for the both of you," my dad agreed to Io's terms.

"Good. Kiaria, now until you agree to be officially mated to me, I will be a constant shadow."

He held my gaze with his eyes and I felt all my insecurities disappear.

He wanted me, only me.

IoI was now accepted by the family, however with certain conditions. I was even given their approval to stay at the guesthouse for the time being. Tomorrow, I will contact a realtor and purchase a house in the neighborhood if not, land. I can always buy a tiny house and move in. At least I wouldn't be encroaching on the Wright's hospitality and I could at least have some freedom to move around since I was staying on my property.Kiaria wanted me to court her so, court I will. I had Marcus pick up some of my things at the hotel to bring here while I spend some time talking to Kiaria at their cozy backyard patio. She was allowed to drink some sangria while I had a glass of scotch. We sat down looking at the full moon and talking about anything we could think of."So, what do you do for a living, Io Hemming, aside from hogging the front page of the tabloids?" Kiaria's eyes were sparkling with her laughter. She did know me although not the way I wanted her to know me."I'm a businessman

KiariaLast night was really bizarre. I wasn't sure if I was dreaming or living in an alternate universe. At first, I was like any other person, common, ordinary. Then when I hit eighteen I become a big wolf and have a mate to boot.I had a mate. A handsome, rich playboy for a mate to be exact. Maybe I was dreaming. Maybe all of this was a figment of my imagination. I bet you when I go downstairs for breakfast and ask for him, my mom will probably send me to see a therapist because of my delusions.Well, it's time to get ready for school. I open the door to my bathroom slash walk-in closet, pick out a comfortable outfit since today I had my majors which meant I'd be stuck in class with boring teachers and hyperactive classmates all worked up on caffeine. Baggy jeans, a cute spaghetti strap tank top and a sweater will do just fine. Pair them up with sneakers and my outfit could pass as pajamas.I take a quick shower, brush my teeth and style my hair in a messy bun. I kind of wanted to

IoI watched Kiaria as she walked to her building and waited for her until she was safely inside. When she entered her building's doors, I immediately went inside my car and whipped out my phone. I had a wedding to plan. My wedding. My heart was racing from the excitement of it all. I have found my fated mate and she has agreed to marry me. Of course, since a wedding is a human tradition, we would also have a mating ceremony to follow wolf tradition. I could not wait to place my mark on her, to make her mine, but first, to appease her human parents, we would get married.Kiaria said tomorrow was her free day. Perfect. Instead of a date, we would get married instead. I pressed Marcus' number on my phone which was on speed dial."Marcus, I need you to get a marriage license for me and Kiaria at city hall. Use all our connections there. Then ask the Mayor if he can officiate our wedding. Scratch that. I'll ask the Mayor personally. I'll meet you at City Hall.""Alpha, congratulations! Th

KiariaI was physically present, but mentally absent. I floated from one class to the other, not paying much attention to the lectures of my professors. Time went by with me daydreaming and doodling on a page of my notebook, writing my name as Kiaria Wright-Hemming. I was sitting in my last class for the day, impatiently glancing numerous times at the clock on the wall, when it hit me. I WAS ENGAGED TO BE MARRIED!I can't believe I had agreed to get married. What was I thinking?! I just turned eighteen yesterday and now I'm going to get married?!I excused myself from class and rushed to the restroom to splash some cold water on my face. I haven't even known Io for a full twenty-four hours and now he's going to be my husband. I wasn't even sure if I loved him. I mean, I have never fallen in love before. How do I possibly know this is love I feel? And how about Io? He was handsome, rich, and accomplished. He could have any woman he wanted. Come on, he had a different woman on his arm e

IoI glanced at her from time to time as I drove, wondering what she was thinking. When I mentioned we should go and tell her mother of our impending wedding, her enthusiastic demeanor from earlier suddenly changed to anxiousness. She quickly turned away from me to face the window and whipped out her phone to text someone. Who was she texting? A friend for support? Didn't she already know I was enough? She was so beautiful and she didn't even know it. Her golden blonde hair, amber eyes, and tanned skin seemed to glisten like gold under the sunlight. She reminded me of a golden goddess basking under the radiance of the sun. I guess when anyone paused to fawn over her, the question of her parentage would always be an overwhelming topic, so much so, she would brush away the comments on her looks and quickly defend her parents. My Kiaria loved her parents dearly. A characteristic of hers I have grown to respect. She must be worried her mother would not agree to the wedding. Asians value

KiariaMy hands were clapsed tightly on my lap as Io drove us to my mother's bistro. I was nervous, extremely nervous that I thought I was going to faint. I glanced at Io to see if he was nervous. His face showed a determination I had once seen when he was in my bedroom trying to woo me into being his. He was all concentration and was determined to get what he wanted. I silently wished I felt the same. But this was my mother we were talking about. I mean, she didn't even want me to date until I was older and now I'm going to tell her I'm getting married to a man I just met?! She'll go ballistic! When I was in high school, there were times I did something I knew my mother would not approve of, so I would hide at my dad's workplace. I would go to his office which I hardly ever did, so he immediately knew something was up. I would tell him what I did and after a lecture, he would have me do my schoolwork at his office before we went home. At home, after telling my mom what I had done, I

I stopped at a red light at the intersection and took a moment to look at myself in the rear view mirror. I was now old. IoMy mother's eyes flickered with fear the moment she heard Magnus' name. "Those thieves were Magnus' men?" My father asked. "Io, are you sure he isn't already here?"I don't think so, Father. The High Elder would have said something to me," I answered. "But it is possible that he might be here. It could be the reason why the High Elder is flying out here tonight," my father said, his distress obvious in his voice. Even Kiaria began to look concerned."Father, let's calm down. We will know when the High Elder arrives," I said, looking at the wall clock. "He will be here soon.""Who is Magnus? I think I have the right to know if I'm right in assuming he was the one who killed my biological parents," Kiaria said with so much conviction, I decided it was time to tell her what I knew.I took her hand in mine, hoping to give her some comfort. KiaraAfter the police took our statements, they allowed us to go home. They praised my father for his quick thinking and calm resolve while I was asked to join therapy sessions for post-traumatic stress disorder after being held hostage. Since I was bothered by that one rogue's untimely death, I toyed with the idea that I should go see a therapist. However, Selene argued I shouldn't feel guilty... that it was either him or my father. While I was waiting for my father to sign some documents for the police, I took a moment to imagine a different scenario, one where my dad was dead and the rogue wolf was alive. I wouldn't be here at the police station. Instead, I would be at a funeral home making arrangements while my mother would be seated in the car waiting for me, catatonic, broken and distraught. After burying my father, my mother would struggle to move on while I would live a life full of regret, constantly blaming myself for not doing what had to be done. My wolf was right. There

If Kiaria willed it, it would happen. Then after an hour, I saw Kiaria and Winston come out of the building. I was so relieved nothing had happened to her. I had thought she had completed her quest and would walk back to where she left me and Marcus, but she waved at her father and gestured to call someone before going back inside the bank through the main entrance while her father was escorted into a dark van parked infront of his building.I wanted to rip the heads of the police officers for just standing around, obviously doing nothing to take down the thieves. I just needed to focus and focus I did. I wanted the cameras to go Poltergeist on the police.I searched the utility room for something to hit them in the head with. These were wolves... and the stick at the end of a mop wasn't going to do any damage. There was some sort of locker type closet at the end of the room. If there were tools, that's probably where the cleaning staff would stash them. I was in luck. It was unlocked and stored inside were wrenches. I took the biggest heavy duty pipe wrench, hoping it would serve as a weapon.I had to think of a way to separate the two rogues. I decided to make the door creak. It worked. "Check that out, will yah," said one. I decided to name him Rogue Two. "It's probably the police. KiariaIt was fun shopping, but we had to get moving, if not, we'd be stuck here forever. I bought a cute mauve pink sleeveless tie neck sheath dress that went down just above the knee. It was pink, but not too bright which I loved. I had some neutral pumps and a clutch that would match the outfit so I didn't need to buy accessories. I also got a long sleeve white chiffon blouse and a pair of beige slacks for a business yet casual look for fall. Now, I had to go buy some pajamas for my mom and dad."Thank you so much. I'll definitely come here again if I need to spice up my wardrobe," I told the owner. She was someone in her late twenties who moved here from Idaho.
