‘Duk’ ‘duk’ “Come in” Ben invited while Dana quickly straightened her posture. Lisa came in with the two coffees followed by Freida, Piper and Oona. Ben pointed at his work desk for Lisa to leave the coffee as she came forward to serve “Shadow and I will drink later.” Lisa pursed her lips, a light flashed past that was not missed by Ben and Shadow. She left the coffee mugs on the table and stood close. “Thank you for all your hard work throughout the year. The next 10 days are your well-earned break.” Ben turned to look at the four of them. “As a token of our appreciation, I want to you have this. Indulge yourselves and come back rejuvenated for a fresh start and new challenges.” Ben nodded towards Dana with a doting smile as he finished. Lisa moved abruptly, accidently knocking the coffee mugs. The coffee spilled on to the carpet. “Sorry...” She hurriedly bent down to wipe the stain when Ben stopped her “Don’t worry. It’s only coffee. The cleaners will take care of it later.”
Atlantis was decked brightly both in spirit and décor for welcoming Christmas. Four adjacent ballrooms had to be opened up to cater for the invitees for tonight’s party and yet there was no detail or expense spared. Attendees arrived one after the other. Anyone who is a somebody was invited and were all here. They all wanted to bootlick the Adalase treasure trove. Good food and champagne flowed like the blessed river of Canaan. Ben arrived fashionably late with his entourage of family and friends and soon attracted the attention of almost everyone in the hall. More truthfully, everyone’s curiosity filled gaze was directed at the beauty who was hugged by Ben. Normally it was the other way round, a beauty hugging Ben’s arms. Also, never in the company of his family. Everyone’s curiosity was peaked. Lisa watched with jealousy, struggling to hold her fake smile. ‘Why was she everywhere? Why was Ben bringing her here?’ “Isn’t that the lady who was with CEO in the office today?” Oona as
“Don’t you have a license to kill? Can we shoot him down?” Lara was still fuming in the car on the way back. Ed “” Dana started giggling before hugging Lara “I am okay, it’s just unsettling seeing him.” “Hymph” Lara wasn’t happy. Ben pursed his lips; He was with Lara on this one, unfortunately his hands were tied by Dana. Sarah giggled looking at the similar vengeful expression on Ben’s and Lara’s faces “You two might have been siblings in another lifetime.” “No… he didn’t have sisters.” Dana blurted out without thinking before covering her mouth and looking more stupid. “What are you talking about?” Lara arched her eyebrows. She knew Dana too well to know her slip of the tongue reactions. “I…. I….” Dana pouted as she leaned back into Ben’s embrace “Hubby she is bullying me because she is the Major General’s fiancée.” Neither Ben nor Ed knew whether to laugh or cry. Lara rolled up her sleeves and started tickling Dana “Yep…. That’s me…. Spill girl.” Sarah sat back and watched
Christmas lunch was noisier. It was almost like a wedding house. After lunch, the elders gathered in one room while the youngers indulged themselves in another. The kids declared the living area in the top floor as their domain. Ben was surprised to see both Frank and Ed with their shirts inserted. They usually almost always had a casual attire when they came home. He soon understood their intent as the belt buckle caught his attention. He pouted in grievance “Wife, what about me?” “Huh?” Dana was confused by his random question and thought he wanted the snacks she just helped herself to and passed it to him. “Not this.” Ben pursed his lips. She followed his line of gaze and bit her tongue. She ran upstairs, pulling him with her. “Hubby I really forgot.” She apologized holding her ear lobe and gave him the one she made for him. Ben happily changed his T-shirt to a cotton casual V-necked shirt, inserted, changed his belt buckle to the new one and went downstairs whistling. Dana di
The days at the old house was relaxed and enjoyable for Dana. Irene would occasionally come up to ask about bridal wear. She wanted to design a line of wedding gowns and would hassle Dana for her input from time to time. Snowbell and Snowflake enjoyed all the attention they were given with endless supply of tummy rubs and tickles. Helena didn’t hear the end of her entanglement with Adam from her kids. She couldn’t wait to kick them out the day after new year’s day. She called Seb although she wasn’t in the mood for small talk with them after all that Amber had put everyone through and passed John’s and Bess’s information with their consent. Life was too short especially at their age. She didn’t want their grudges to keep the friends from reconnecting. She knew how close Adam, Seb and John were in their younger days. It was a wise decision as they got to talk through their differences as well. Sophia opened up about her heartache and how they cut Amber off. Helena didn’t know all thi
Alec was not aware of the hole Ben had dug for him as he looked curiously in the direction Ben called out. He was half expecting the young miss of Witherby although he was curious who Mrs Adalase really was. He was onboard with all the Adalase gossip ever since they met. His smile froze as he saw Dana emerging hugging Barry nestled in her arms, her signature smile on her face. “Barry, dad has agreed to let you stay back.” Ben turned to reassure Barry before Alec changed his mind. “Really??” His little face lit up with the brilliance of a thousand lamps. Ben nodded as Alec was still sitting dumb struck. Barry wriggled out of Dana’s arms and ran to Alec happily throwing his meaty arms around his neck excitedly “Daddy loves me best…. Daddy’s best.” Alec frowned, he couldn’t go back on his word now, could he? He didn’t have the heart once he saw how excited Barry was. He looked a bit dazed as he looked at Dana who was snuggled in Ben’s embrace. It wasn’t a conscious effort to spite h
“Yes… yes… sincere…. sincere…” Ruth nodded. “Give me 3 mins to close up or else these clowns will offend someone else who might not be kind enough.” Ruth muttered as she sent the staff who started apologizing to Dana and closed up. “Where should we go?” Sarah looked at Dana. “Let’s go to Glitz.” Ruth spoke excitedly without noticing Sarah’s gaze. Dana shrugged and nodded “I just have to message my friend who we were meant to be catching up here. You might have to buy an extra drink.” “No problem.” Ruth waved her hand. Dana sent the message of change in venue to Lara before heading out with Ruth. Ruth had been in a terrible mood all week. She really needed a drink. She didn’t feel like going out with all her so-called friends as she wasn’t in the mood for pretentions. Perhaps a drink with strangers was the way to go. Halfway through Sarah received a call from the servants at home asking her if she could come back. “Somethings come up; I have to go back. Why don’t we go another
“Please accept my apology for the insult.” Dana spoke, her forehead wrinkled. “I have been a little jittery due to my recent experiences.” “Nothing a lunch treat can’t solve.” Jagger smiled impishly. “Okay.” Dana agreed straightforwardly. “All the people in this room, I choose the venue, your husband pays.” “I will pay. My husband is innocent.” Dana pursed her lips and added with a pout “You can only choose a venue that I can afford.” “Are you being fair?” Jagger complained. Ben was about to open his mouth to support his wife when he was shocked with her next statement. “Alright then I will be unfair. My best friend’s fiancé is the chief of military intelligence. I will just call him and tell him that you have some shady business here.” Dana threatened with a cute pout. She was anyway being accused of being unfair. “That’s right. I will tell my fiancé.” Lara piped happily. Ed “” “So, I have two choices” Jagger repeated feigning a hateful expression “Either let you treat me wi
