CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-TWO

POV ELEANOR

Gideon closed his eyes, the decision weighing on his shoulders. "Eleanor, I want to believe you. But all you have done since the beginning is lie to me." He laughed sarcastically. "It's a pity we have come to this point!" he said seriously, taking the knife from the guard who stood behind him.

"It's not, Gideon," I whispered, my voice full of pain. "Please, trust me."

He took a deep breath, opening his eyes slowly. "I should kill you now and avenge my daughter's death with my own hands, spilling your blood in front of everyone..." he murmured with a serious expression, slowly approaching me with the knife in hand.

When our faces were inches apart, in a swift motion, he placed the knife to my neck and began to graze it against my skin, making a small cut. A bit of my blood trickled down the sharp blade, enough to slit my throat if he wanted.
