TRISTEN
It’s been four days since I shared a moment in the woods with Jaela. I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t consumed my dreams since that night. It’s impossible to escape her even if I tried and Skylar doesn’t make it any easier. Every time I see him, he smiles at me or gives subtle hints with his eyes reminding me that he knows what happened between us.
I’m honestly considering banning him from this floor. I don’t care that’s his chambers is on the same level. Anyway, I have no time to keep thinking about either of them, the alpha meeting is tomorrow and I’m not looking forward to it. Honestly, I hate every second of those meetings, all the alphas in the northwest and western states have to attend them every six months to discuss rogue attacks, pack event calendars and any other concerns we may have.
This will be my fifth meeting since taking over the pack and it hasn’t been easy seeing Alpha Terrance from Mystic Moon. Even before Jaela and I found out we were mates he’s been a living hell, a palpable hatred marred his face anytime his eyes wander my way. I knew he hated my father, but I didn’t do anything to the man besides love his daughter.
Is that my crime against him? You’d think I had stolen her and run off into the hills with her. He goes out his way to make sure I know how much he despises me, and truthfully, I can’t stand him either; my wolf nodded in agreement.
‘He’s such a prick, his wolf is no better. To be honest he and dad are from the same coin, he may not be as cruel as Alpha Terrance, but he’s definitely to blame for us not being with our mate’ Adriel says and he’s not wrong.
Both of them had the love of their true mates but deny me and Jaela to have the same.
Hypocrites.
A knock at the door interrupted my thoughts, as Skylar poked his head through.
“If I’d known it was sleep in day, I would have not gotten up myself” Skylar said pushing the curtains in my room wide open.
“I was just getting up, just had a lot on my mind this morning” I told him.
“About what the meeting tomorrow?” he grimaced.
“By the way are Xavier and I both joining you?”
Shaking my head
“Xavier can look after the pack while we are gone, after what happened the last time, one of you need to be here. Seems rogues get overconfident when we all leave together” I reminded him.
Xavier, my first warrior can handle the pack while we are gone, he is the next strongest after Skylar. I Trust him to watch over everything.
“I’ll pass the message along, but you need to get up so we can train.”
“Could have sworn I was the Alpha here” I said jokingly.
Laughing, Skylar reached for the first thing he could find and launched it my way. Luckily for me I’m way faster, catapulting from the bed I caught the remote midair landing securely in front of him.
“Yep, definitely the Alpha” I motioned to myself.
Skylar chuckled as he walked towards the door, before exiting he gave me the finger smiling and took off after I taunted him with the remote. Mind linking Skylar to have the junior warriors ready to train in twenty minutes I headed for the shower.
˜
I didn’t waste any time slamming Skylar into the dirt, as I reached down to grab him by the throat, he positioned his legs under my arms to stop my attempt. With no time to break free, he wrapped his hands around my wrist then thrusted his foot under my chest lifting me into the air and rolling my body over his head. I landed on the ground with a grunt, flipping his body onto mine. He threw multiple punches into my chest and face, each punch connecting precisely.
A loud growl came from my throat, I punched him hard into his side knocking the air from his lungs and launching him a few feet from me. Back on my feet I watched as he slowly rose clutching his side.
“You can always just give up, if your baby ribs are hurt” I said pointing to him smirking.
knowing he won’t wait until we shift, he runs towards me. elongating my nails, I waited for the right moment to sidestep him, Swiping my claws up his chest. I could feel my claws tearing through the flesh and muscle. Losing momentum, his body hits the ground. Blood painted on my hand I walked away from him to address the junior pups.
“Now, where did the Beta go wrong?” I asked them.
“Fighting the Alpha apparently” one of them said, they all laughed.
“Yes, and no” I replied.
“His mistake was not finishing me when he had the advantage. Although I am strong, fast, and clearly handsome when dealing with an enemy or a rogue of the same caliber you incapacitate them immediately.” I explain.
“Kill them?” Sophia shouted, her eyes wide.
Softening to her small voice.
“Not every person you come into contact with will need to die. There are always ways to take them down without killing them, hence what I did to the beta. If you hit them precisely and do enough damage, you can capture them. But yes, sometimes more than not you will have to kill some along the way.”
The information quieted all of them, with that I dismissed them early. When I was younger, I had the same reaction to killing another until I had no choice but to take a life myself. It’s never easy, but at the end of the day its either them, you, or someone you love.
Meeting Skylar back at the training field, I glanced at his chest to see the faded lines where my claws ripped through his skin. Luckily for us we heal extremely fast.
“I have to admit, that shit freaking hurt. Did you have to go that deep?” Skylar asked with a grimace.
“Not really, but you did get the drop on me. It wasn’t me though that was all Adriel” I tell him.
‘Blame the wolf, your unbelievable, you know that?’ Adriel says with a growl.
“Okay fine, it was me. you almost had me, I was scared for my life” I tell him smirking.
Skylar looks at me with disbelief in his eyes, then we both burst into laughter.
“Yea ok, I will act like I believe you this time, next time just knock my ass out. This took almost an hour to heal. Damn Alpha wounds suck” he said touching the fading lines on his chest.
Exchanging playful banter with Skylar we headed towards the pack-house. Xavier met us halfway when a filthy smell stopped us in our tracks. Turning to the source was a small dirty grey wolf along the tree line of the woods. The wolf was no bigger than average, way smaller than a beta and warrior wolf.
Snarling the rabid wolf stepped forward in our direction, Skylar placed a protective stance in front of me as the rogue ran towards us, its paws pounding the dirt forcefully each time they landed.
The wolfs paws left the ground as it leaped, mouth open ready to sink its teeth into us. Skylar caught the wolf around its neck holding it suspended in the air as it struggled to free itself.
“Nasty little thing isn’t it” said Skylar, scrunching his nose.
“It is” I agreed.
The dark black eyes of the rogue met with mine as it growled loudly, circling its head snapping its canines. Tightening his grip on the wolfs neck it whimpered, panting for air.
Panic settled into him; his wolf slowly shifted back to human. His body landed roughly onto the grass giving Xavier time to grab the boy by the arms. holding them firmly behind his back, he lifted the rogue pushing him to his knees in front of me.
The boy had to be no older than seventeen. My eyes settled on his frail frame, he looked starved. his face slightly tan, his eyes dark and cloudy. Meeting his gaze, he smoldered at me, defiance in his eyes.
I laughed, amused.
“You wish to challenge me boy?” I asked “Starring into the eyes of an Alpha means you want the role of Alpha. You couldn’t even escape the clutches of my Beta, what makes you think you can challenge me” I growl.
‘Let me show this pup who he’s messing with’ Adriel chimes in.
His eyes pans to the beta then to me as a bit of fear clouds his features.
“Why are you in Shadow moon territory?” I ask him, he doesn’t look up or even acknowledge that I’ve asked him a question. Asking him again, this time in my alpha voice he squirms and turns his neck to me in submission, but he still doesn’t answer me.
Normally a rogue is exactly what they are wolves that are either banned from their pack, thrown out or left of their own free will with no attachments to anything or anyone. Meaning my Alpha aura shouldn’t work on the boy, but it somewhat did.
“That is not normal” Xavier said confused.
“I know, lock the boy in the dungeon until I can question him more. Meet me in my office afterwards” I told them both.
Xavier pulled him to his feet, dragging him to the packed house entering the doors to the basement. As they disappeared from sight, I made my way to the kitchen.
TRISTEN The room is bustling with omegas cooking and preparing dinner for the night, leaving them to their duties. I made my way through the dining hall only to run into Bree. “Tristen” she says ignoring what I told her the last time about how to address me. realizing her mistake, her eyes widened. “I mean. Alpha Tristen” “What do you want Bree?” I asked, annoyed. “I was wondering if we could have a private dinner tonight, just you and me?” she says batting her eyelashes at me. I had no plans on spending any quality time with the girl, but I can’t keep being an ass to her either. “Fine” not really committed to my answer, but to her apparently was the best thing ever. “Yes! um how about around seven... I will have one of the omegas deliver food to your chambers” she says happily her smile reaching her eyes. “No” I yelled a bit harshly, watching her smile fade into a frown. “I’m not saying no to dinner with you Bree, just not in my chambers. Get the Omegas to set up a tabl
TRISTEN Skylar hasn’t said a word to me since we left the pack grounds. The silence is killing me and its only been an hour since we left. when we loaded the cars this morning, he brushed past me headed to the second vehicle to ride with Delta’s. That wouldn’t do, it was only right that the Alpha and beta rode together, there couldn’t be any dissension shown to other packs no matter how pissed he may be with me. So long story short I made him ride with me, but that just pissed him off more apparently. Sneaking a glance his way he focused all his attention out the window. The radio and road was the only sounds being heard inside the car as we drove. “So, you going to sulk all day” I asked breaking the silence. forcing his eyes to the scenery outside, he said nothing. Light poles and guard rails more interesting to him at this point. With a loud sigh I gripped the steering wheel, the leather straining under my fingertips. “Come on sky say something, it’s going to be a long ride.” I p
SKYLAR Tristen and I both were worlds apart the last hour to Portland. For once the silence comforted me, I can admit I'm more of a lively person that loves conversation, jokes and anything else that comes with being a social butterfly. It’s one of the reason I love being in a pack with so many I love and those I can have a good time with. But the unexplained shit that happeed at that place has my mind reeling. Who was the person behind the shadow and why did it take such an interest in Tristen. Being his second in command it’s my job to find out who it is and especially if it means him any harm. The power it emitted though was enough to keep me pinned to the wall not able to speak or move. What can I possibly do if I’m rendered useless. What’s even more concerning was the faceless body that was left behind in a pool of its own blood. What happened before we arrived there? Did the shadow murder the person? Surely it was a possibility. Could it have been someone from Mystic
TRISTEN “Vernon, Vernon...” I called out to him to get his attention. Shaking him, he snaps his unfocused gaze through me. Blinking his eyes rapidly. “Yea, Sorry... I just don’t understand who or what that thing was. It really freaked me out bro.” “I get it man, but was anyone else there besides the body you found, any other lingering scents? Electricity?” I asked, hoping the situation was similar. “Electricity? what does that have to do with anything?” He asked. “I’m just asking was there anything else weird going on.” His skeptical gaze lingered on my face as I tried to cover my slip, I really don’t want to disclose what happened to me just yet until I have more facts. Vernon’s news just further piqued my interest on the situation, I just want to know who’s causing it to happen and why! Until I know more, I’m going to keep what I’ve seen in the house. “Alpha’s, I don’t mean to interrupt but we should be heading back to shadow moon, it’s getting late, and we have a long drive
TRISTEN Dad was running around the pack house like a scared little girl, now that I think about it the scene was funny. Dad came flying down the stairs yelling “get the pack doctor, get the pack doctor” when mom threw her slipper down the steps hitting him square in the head pausing his ranting. It must have knocked some sense into him because he looked up at her with amusement on his face. “Aren’t you missing something Levi?” she shouted as the contractions ravaged her body. The confusion on his face made it apparent that he had no idea what she was referring to. “LEVI AMAR AMONT IF YOU DON’T GET YOUR ASS UP HERE AND ESCORT YOUR PREGNANT WIFE DOWN THESE STAIRS SO HELP ME” she yelled clutching the top railing. “oops” rubbing the back of his neck as he took the stairs two at time. “Sorry baby I just- She stopped his apologies with a hand to his face as he rambled. My mother was the only person that ever talked to my father the way she did and got away with it, she had him wra
UNKNOWN If she had been more careful, she wouldn’t have been in the store when the boy arrived. She cursed as she entered her private chambers. What was she going to do now, how would she explain that she was spotted to the high priestess. Sparking the priestess wrath was never good. She had already been on thin ice. She floated around the room in a furry of worry, snatching her clothes as she went. Pulling her jacket from her back and slamming it on the floor. The more she reflected on what could happen to her, the more her worry turned into anger. Perched on the bar in her room, she poured herself a generous amount of bourbon. Drinking her self-lucidness was the only way to rid herself of raging thoughts. All knew of the high priestess ruthlessness. Little could surface her fury. Few have escaped her savagery. Those unfortunate heads are displayed along the gates walls as a warning. Old stories spoke of the woman who birthed her. The cruelty that she endured. Despite the beati
JAELA I felt the wind rush past me as I dodged the round house kick that flew over my head, countering his kick I swept his legs from under him. The platform shook as his body collided against the canvas. He grunted as he landed. Being taught to be ruthless against my opponents, my attack became faster and harder making every blow count. The door of the gym slammed shut pulling my attention to it. I knew it was a mistake when my body left the ground, the wall cracked upon impact of my body banging against it. As I slid to the floor I coughed, spitting blood onto the Mat. Before I had a chance to block, his fist came fast striking me in the jaw. Blood spattered everywhere, my vision blurred, tears threatened to fall. The sheer force of his punch felt like a sledgehammer to my skull. “What did I tell you?” his deep voice bounced off the walls as his fist connected on my face again. I was barely holding on to consciousness, he grabbed me by the arm throwing me across the floor. “
JAELA My body has yearned for him ever since that night at the border, but I won’t allow myself to feel an ounce of love for him after all that happened between us. I’d be a fool to get my hopes up believing we would be together again. I promised myself, I would never allow him to ruin me again. As much as I hate the fact of being forced to mate with Marcus, I will do just that. Aiyana growled loudly in my head at that thought alone. Ignoring her I hop off the counter throwing the ice pack back in the freezer. Slamming the door right after and nearly jumping out my skin. “BOO!!” “IMANI, ARE YOU FRIGGIN NUTS” I scream at my best friend. Rolling around on the floor with tears in her eyes. I narrow my eyes at her as she laughs so hard at my reaction. Pointing to me, catching her breath through her giggles. Thrusting my hands on my hips unamused by this whole thing. “You… you… should have seen… your face. You… was like… ahh…” she pauses holding her stomach. “Ow… it hurts…” she sa
JAELA Tristen held me around my waist, his face buried in my neck as we emerged from my room. My childish giggles giving me a stitch in my side. “Well, someone definitely had fun” Skylar said from where he was sitting, he winked his eyes at us. “Yeah, the first, second, and 5th time since last night” Mia said in irritation. Skylar pulled her to sit across his lap, laying a soft kiss behind her ear. “What is your problem this morning Mia, didn’t get any?” Maya snorted. Ignoring her completely, she snapped back at us. “Let’s be clear you little whore! these suites are soundproof, not so much the rooms inside them! Keep that in mind tonight” Mia sneered. “Good Goddess you are such a grouch this morning.” I said pointing an accusing finger at her. Mia shrugged her shoulders still scowling at me. Just then someone knocked on the suite’s door. Mya, Mia and I both jumped to our feet, throwing curious looks at each other. The boys stayed seated without worry. I really don’t want a figh
JAELASquinting at the light peeking through the curtain. Rubbing my eyes to clear the sleep from them. Slowly my gaze hovered over the man laying next to me, his arms wrapped loosely around my naked body.Who would have thought this would be my reality again. I’d be lying if I said I expected to be back in his arms again. Though we promised ourselves to move on, this feeling feels right. Aiyana purred in agreement. This is what we needed all along, to forget about our duties, our packs. All I need is him, still the unknown scares the daylight out of me. Will he change his mind? Will he leave me like the last time? Would I survive if he does?I wouldn’t survive it, a fact I’d bank on. After opening my heart to him again, chances are I’d be lost. The Moon Goddess wouldn’t have given him to me for us not to work. I have to believe that there’s more to us than letting each other go. I’m willing to take the leap into the unknown, hopefully it's worth it. Tristen’s murmuring halted the t
SKYLARI grabbed the vase from the coffee table and threw it at him. “SCORE!!” Tristen yelled, throwing his hands in the air. The vase hit X square on the side of the head. losing his battle with gravity he fell falling into the side table. Here’s my chance. Using the couch as momentum, I jumped off the back end launching myself at him, my weight forcing him down on the ground. Grabbing him around the neck I squeezed him hard shaking him violently.“You’ve been up here this whole-time being Mr. lover boy. What is wrong with you!!” I yelled. He sputtered spit from his lips trying to speak. I didn’t care, I wasn’t going to literally kill him, but it sure felt good though, venting my frustrations out on him.“I’m… sorry but look at… her… she’s … beautiful…I could…not resist” he spoke in a strangled voice with each breath.“Yes, she is, but I want my beautiful twin too you dick” I took the opportunity to hit him hard in the ribs.He grunted.“Skylar, he’s had enough” Tristen chimed in. I
SKYLAR Giggling shewolves pulled my attention to them. A group of woman were standing by the elevator staring intently at me. One of them looked at me with nothing but lust. Her eyes traveling from mine down my body slowly. What the hell is wrong with her…. The light bulb went off in my head, totally forgetting I was buck stark-naked standing there. We aren’t ashamed to be naked around each other, but I had a Lady and only she should be enticed by my junk, I felt nauseous just being ogled by them. Looking at them now did nothing for me. Kylo growled loudly, Their eyes widened before they tucked tail, running away quickly. Chuckling at them, stumbling over each other. I climbed the flight of stairs to my floor, heading to my suite, stepping over drunk pack members. They were partying hard, to the looks of it the party wasn’t dying down anytime soon. Drinks were still being passed around. How many of those bottles did they bring, good Goddess. Whatever, they can party all they want,
SKYLAR What an ass. I headed in the direction of the hotel, not the least bit worried about leaving him. The lights around the hotel were bright as we got closer. Now I have to figure out how I’m getting into the damn place. entering the main lobby in wolf form is strictly prohibited, so the back entrance is. ‘X, please tell me you’re on the first floor.’ ‘Unfortunately, no. Why??’ he asked. ‘I’m trying to get into the hotel and need assistance’ I told him. ‘Why didn’t you come to the main lobby.’ ‘Because I’m in wolf form and I can’t come that way. Plus, if I shift, I will be naked dummy. Send someone to let me in at the back entrance’ I yelled at him. He sighed through the link. ‘I can’t send anyone down, Tristen Commanded everyone to stay on our floors. They were getting unruly at the field, partially my fault by the way. Let me settle everyone and I will be there.’ He explained. ‘So, what the hell am I supposed to do in the meantime jerk!’ I huffed exasperated. ‘Knit a swea
SKYLARKylo ran for about an hour before I decided to head back towards the pack. We definitely didn’t think it through shedding our clothes before taking off. Kylo was so mad when he shifted, I didn’t even think and let his instincts take over. ‘You like being naked anyway, and I for one hate clothes anyway so.’ ‘Not when I’m walking through the woods in human form Kylo.’‘Pfft, like we don’t roll around in the dirt anyway.’‘No, you roll around in wolf form in dirt, I just let you. there is a difference bonehead.’‘Whatever, just get us back I want mate’ he paced anxiously, Missing her scent already. The little bit of her scent was left behind with my tattered clothes back in the field. Admittedly, missing her has already become a part of me. A piece of my heart that was missing, making my heartbeat louder than it ever has. We need her and won’t lose her to anything or anyone. Kylo growled in agreement. He more than anyone needed her the most.I couldn’t wait to get back to her. My
TRISTEN Sky has never acted this way towards me before, He always spoke his mind even yelled at me a few times despite our hierarchy, but this is different. I’d be lying if it didn’t feel like it was my fault. There is so much bad blood between Mystic and Shadow Moon, and nobody really knows why but Terrance and my father. My father never spoke on it and honestly, I want to get to the bottom of what happened. The whole thing isn’t just affecting me now, but my two best friends. After he made me reject Jaela in the first place, the least he could do is be upfront with me now. I am the alpha; he is not in control anymore. My love for my pops will never change, but he almost cost me everything. I tried linking with Skylar again only to hit his mental block. We need to figure out together what we can do. The best thing right now is to let him cool down. The pack was still celebrating our last event for the evening when I walked up to them. They shouted Shadow Moon while shots of liquor
SKYLAR I waited at least ten minutes before leaving the restroom, making sure she had enough time to clear the area before making my way back. On my way back to the field I caught sight of Xavier and Tristen hanging off to the side. The look on both of their faces were serious. Approaching them, their conversation died. “What’s going on?” I asked them. “The last event is tomorrow morning, and we are up against Mystic Moon” Xavier rolled his eyes. “Ok, so what’s the big deal?” I asked. “It’s not a big deal and that isn’t the problem. Our foul mood has another source,” said Tristen. He balled his fist at his sides. “Ok, so what has you two looking like you’re planning a war over here then.” Tristen pressed his fingertips into his temple as if he was getting a headache. “Well, I heard Owen talking to one of their gamma’s that Alpha Terrance may get released early. Aris said Terrance and the other alpha have worked out their differences. They both promised to be on their best behavi
SKYLAR I was leaning against the door of the stall watching her fix her hair in the mirror. Her long brown hair layered over her shoulders; she tossed it a few times in her hands shaking the few tangles I caused from gripping it. She glanced at me in the mirror and smiled, it dissipated as her eyes broke contact with mine. Quickly she pulled the band on her wrist and tied it around her hair putting it back into a tight ponytail. Her change in attitude caught me off guard, the coldness in her expression sent uncertainty in my heart. I thought we had a good time, I’m positive that she enjoyed what we did together. Why the cold shoulder now? I don’t like what I’m feeling from her. Taking a few steps towards her, she stood in front of me. Placing her hands on the sink counter in front of her she avoided my gaze in the mirror. Positioning my chin on her shoulder, I wrapped my arms around her front, pressing her back into my hard chest. “What’s wrong?” I whispered in her ear. She tried sh
