Lillian’s POV
Today was the last day of Mrs Laughlin's birthday event, and I couldn't be more relieved, even though the past five days had gone smoothly, without any form of ruckus or distraction from Stefano. I just wanted to be done with it, so I would never have to lay eyes on him again. For some odd reasons, a tiny part of me wondered why Stefano had kept his distance from me during the past few days. Sure, he always greeted me whenever he saw me but that was it. He didn't ask after my wellbeing or work or even apologize or give me unsolicited explanations for stuff I couldn't be bothered to care about. But then again, that was exactly what I had been hoping for, so what was this weird, almost sad feeling? Pushing the weird feeling and thoughts away, I reduced the heat of the stove to the lowest, before removing my apron and stepping out of the kitchen to go check up on my kids. As Nora was currently on a work trip in Germany, and I had no one else to look after them, I had brought them to work, and thankfully, Mrs Laughlin hadn't taken any offense. She was also yet to really notice them, as she was busy conversing with her guests. Stepping into the room Mrs Laughlin had given me for the day, I smiled when I saw the triplets sitting around their tablet, watching a car racing video. “Hi, babies,” I greeted, and they instantly spun around to face me. “Hi, mummy,” They chorused before Connor turned off the tablet, and the three of them stood up. “Do you guys need anything or are you okay?” I asked. “No, we don't,” Caleb replied, glancing at his brothers who nodded in agreement. “We are fine, mummy.” “You are not hungry yet, either?” In response, the trio shook their heads in negation, and I smiled again before crouching to their heights. In contrast to how I used to think, I knew I must have saved a country in my past life for the heavens to give me three adorably smart kids. “Okay, don't hesitate to let me know if you need something, alright?” I uttered. “You guys can still remember where the kitchen is, right?” “Yes, mummy,” Carter replied. “Good.” I said, ruffling their luscious locks. “Well-done, mummy.” Caleb said, grinning at me, with his two missing front teeth, automatically widening my smile even further. “Thanks, baby. I will see you there soon,” I said, standing up. “And don't go out of this room, okay?” “We won't, mummy.” Carter reassured, to which I nodded. “Okay, bye, babies. I'll check up on you again.” I said, blowing them a kiss as I made my out of the room. On getting to the kitchen, I saw Miss Nancy thawing a packet of frozen Turkey and another of gizzard, which I intended on using to make a special dish that I recently came up with. “Thank you so much, Miss Nancy,” I said, turning the heat of the gas cooker to a medium intensity. “You are welcome, Miss Lillian,” She smiled, and for an inexplicable reason, she reminded me of Beatrice. Kind and caring Beatrice. Only the heavens knew how she was doing at the moment. My heart panged as a wave of cognition suddenly hit me, causing the scales of idiocy to fall off my eyes. To think I had been subconsciously yearning for a douchebag like Stefano who put my life thorough hell and completely disgraced me in front of his mistress. I really never learnt my lesson. Knowing how much of an unfaithful jerk he was, Stefano had probably started seeing someone else and that person had his whole attention, which was the reason why he had stopped bugging me. Inhaling shakily, I removed the cold slabs of cake from the refrigerator, in preparation to cover it with buttercream frosting. Moments later as I worked on the cake, I couldn't help but hope for the day to go by sooner, so I wouldn't have to come across Stefano ever again. + Stefano's POV Driving into my grandmother's estate, I tapped the steering wheel, my mind a baggage of several thoughts. Three days ago, Gregory had called to inform me that Lillian was neither married nor in a relationship with anyone, which led me to instantly deduce that they were probably a product of a one night stand. I wasn't judging her of course. I mean, I could never because I wasn't exactly a saint myself. Honestly, I was even relieved that the father of her kids wasn't in the picture, and I hoped the bastard remained wherever he was and never returned. If Lillian gave me a chance, I would gladly be their father. For almost a week now, I had been suppressing the urge to ask her about the father of her kids, because I knew asking Lillian would make her despise me further. So I had only been greeting her and nothing more. I knew if I did more than greeting, the question may slip out and I couldn’t have that. I had to come up with a perfect plan to win both her and the triplets now. Just then a little boy came running out of nowhere, almost causing me to hit him, if not for my timely swerve to the other side of the road. Huffing, I turned off the ignition and went out to see him. The little boy was crouched mere inches away from my car, his head buried in his hands as he tremored with fear. Crouching beside him, I placed a hand on his shoulder. “You are fine, little man. I didn't hit you.” He looked up and at me immediately, tears streaming down his face before looking at himself. “You are right. I'm sorry, mister,” He said. “My mummy told us to stay inside. We should have listened to her. Mummy is going to be so angry at us.” I was about to respond to him when two little boys who he shared some resemblance with ran up to us, causing me to instantly deduce that they were brothers. Eying me tentatively, the taller of the two asked. “Who are you, mister?” “He's a kind mister, Connor,” The one I first met replied. “I was chasing a butterfly and didn't see his car. He was able to stop his car before it hitted me.” The tall one seemed like the oldest of the trio, and for some reasons, I found his protectiveness over his little brother adorable. “You are not hurt, right?” The third boy asked the crouched one, who shook his head in negation as he stood up, which made me realize that he was the tallest of the three. “Thank you for not hitting our little brother, mister,” Connor said, and I smiled. “You're welcome,” I said, repressing the urge to ruffle their hair which looked alluring for some reason. “What are your names?” “Connor! Carter! Caleb! Where are you guys? Mummy is getting scared now.” The unmistakable voice of Lillian wafted into my ears from behind, causing me to straighten to my full height and look back to see her walking toward our direction, a frantic look on her face. Only then did it dawn on me that the three little boys were her triplets. “Mummy!” The triplets yelled, and she started sprinting in our path. On seeing the triplets, she visibly relaxed. However, the moment she noticed me, her expression turned cold as she grabbed her children’s hands. Darting me the iciest glare ever, she said. “Let's go.” And with that, she left with the triplets, without uttering a single word to me.Lillian’s POV “Mummy, are you mad at us?” Carter asked, as we walked to my car, hours later when I was done working.“Yes, sweetie. Mummy is mad at you three,” I replied, cinching them into their respective car seats. “What were you doing out of the house with a stranger? And didn't I tell you to remain in the room?”My crybaby, Caleb, instantly started sniffling as his eyes turned watery with tears and his lips quivered, causing my heart to clench, but I knew I had to scold them, so they'd know to start listening to me.“We are sorry, mummy,” Connor pouted. “We were just going to stay outside for three minutes and then quickly return inside.”“And how were you going to tell the time?” I couldn't help but snicker. “Do you have a wristwatch?”Darting me a sheepish look, Carter shook his head in negation and I sighed heavily.“Please start listening to my instructions, okay? Do you know how scared I was when I didn't see you in there and walked around the whole house for about thirty m
Lillian’s POV“Alright, the three of you should be good to Aunty Nora, okay?” I told Carter and Connor as I donned my sneakers.Caleb was upstairs taking a nap. We had returned from the hospital earlier today, and I was about to go see Mrs Laughlin.“Yes, mummy.” Carter answered on their behalf.“Mummy, can you buy chupa chops on your way back?” Connor asked, doe eyes staring into my soul as his hands came together in front of his chest.Chupa chops was a chocolate brand that he favorited. I sometimes wondered if that was the case because I had consumed quite a lot of the famous chocolate brand during my pregnancy.“Okay, I will,” I said, as Nora came out of the kitchen, holding a bowl of fresh popcorn. “Babes, I'm leaving them to you now. Thanks for agreeing to watch them again on short notice.”Nora had gotten back from Germany last night after her conference ended. “You're welcome, Lilly. Although, I've repeatedly told you that it's not a big deal. They are my god babies.” She sa
Lillian’s POV Entering my car, I huffed as the occurrence of yesterday's afternoon strayed into my mind.Particularly how Stefano had come to my workplace to do nothing but sing my praises.During our marriage, I had badly wished for that to happen but it never did. I used to wish he would at least tell me my food tasted nice or even show some delight while eating at least, but he never did either. He would eat with a frown and when he was done, he'd just gruff before retiring to either his study or his bedroom.“You really suffered, Lillian,” I mumbled to myself, as I drove out of my apartment complex. As much as I didn't want to admit it, him finally complimenting my food, had made me feel some kind of unwanted flutter in my belly. When I saw him yesterday, my heart had initially cut as I thought Mrs Laughlin had mistakenly told him that the triplets were his, and Stefano had come to threaten me.However, I was quite stunned and relieved when he simply ladened his praises of the fo
Stefano’s POV“Regarding my conclusion, my secretary will get in touch with you,” I said into the table microphone. “This meeting is now officially over.”And with that, I stood up and made my way out of the conference room while my secretary and business partners trailer behind me.Earlier today, I had called a meeting to review a promising start up company's proposal and to have them present their ideas to me, which had impressed me even more.“You may be on your respective ways. I'm going somewhere,” I said, as we stepped into the elevator.“Yes, sir.” They responded.Strolling into the parking lot, I located my Lamborghini truck and unlocked it with my fingerprint. Thereafter, I drove to an Italian restaurant that I usually frequented downtown.“Welcome, sir,” The elderly doorman greeted, and made to take my coat.“It's fine, thanks,” I replied, before handing him a wad of bills as tip.“Thank you so much, sir,” He grinned, slotting the money into his pocket. “Have a nice lunch.”
Lillian's POV I smiled as I looked at the simmering pot of buffalo stew, my husband's favourite, on the gas cooker, before donning a pair of oven mittens. Opening the oven, I sighed blissfully as the delectable aroma of the chicken lasagna wafted into my nostrils. I could only hope Stefano would be pleased with these dishes that I had specially made to break the news of my pregnancy to him. Earlier today after a visit to the doctor, I found out that I was pregnant. I could already feel that our baby was going to be so loved, given how today was Valentine’s Day. A day of love. Three years ago at twenty one, I dropped out of culinary school and became Stefano's housewife to secure his investment in my father's company. To say those three years had been hell for me, was probably putting it tame. From the start of our union, both Stefano and his mother had given me little to no regard as his wife. Doris, his mother, had repeatedly told me that I was just a placeholder f
Lillian’s POV Inhaling shakily, I stared at my gaunt reflection in the mirror, as tears built up in my eyes for the umpteenth time that evening. My already visible collar bones had become even more noticeable within a few hours with visible bags under my eyes, and a pallor shade on my lips.I looked nothing like the Lillian that married Stefano three years ago.Fine, I had also been struggling back then but it wasn't as bad as this. At least, I used to have clients who I made food for in exchange for cash.I had gotten into culinary school on a government sponsored scholarship, as my father and stepmother had told me to my face that they had no money to sponsor me after high school. My passion for cooking had pushed me into entering a local cooking competition, which I won and also got the scholarship. On Stefano and my dad's orders, I had dropped out to be a housewife, and I knew the culinary school wouldn't take me back again.I had no idea how I was supposed to move on with my lif
Lillian's POV Tears clogged my throat and blurred my vision as I packed my belongings into the same small suitcase that had accompanied me to Stefano's mansion on our wedding night.Darting one final look at the burgundy dress I wore last night, I heaved a shaky sign before closing the wardrobe.Zipping my old suitcase, which had belonged to my mum, I wiped my tears off, inwardly chiding myself for crying over an asshole like Stefano.Yesterday, after getting back from Stefano and Meryl's engagement party, the scales of idiocy fell down from my eyes and I realized just how stupid I had been for the past three years. If only I had never agreed to marry Stefano in the first place and had stood my ground, I would have graduated culinary school and would probably be living the life of my dreams.Cooking for people and making a living while at it.But like the spineless people pleaser that I was, I had done everything my father wanted, without thinking of my own happiness.Well, there was
Lillian's POV “We should land in London in the next three hours,” Nora divulged, as she took a bite of her cinnamon roll. “Wow,” I muttered, a wave of nausea suddenly hitting me as I inhaled the buttery aroma of the snack. Not now, baby. Taking a huge exhale, I reclined against my seat and caressed my belly. I couldn't believe how fast my life had changed in just five days.If someone had told me last week that I would be a divorcee on her way to London, this week, I would have laughed at them. But I guess that was one thing about life; it was very unpredictable. The day after I met Nora, I finally brought myself to reveal the news of my pregnancy to her, and she had pulled me into one of her comforting hugs in return, before reassuring me not to worry about a single thing.I was stunned when she handed me a visa and a flight ticket yesterday, and told me that we were leaving for London today. Nora had also told me that I could re-enroll in a culinary school after the baby was born

Lillian’s POV “Miss Baker, the patron on table 17 asked me to give you this,” Zade said, handing me a white envelope.“Thanks, Zade,” I replied, slotting the envelope into the pocket of my apron, to which he nodded.Opening the oven, I brought out the tub of freshly-made greek yogurt and set it on the table. Although there were quite a lot of good brands of Greek yogurt, I preferred making it myself because it always tasted unique, especially in the fruit parfait, which was a dessert special of Watkins.Zade had prepared the parfait ingredients earlier, so I just had to add the granola, sliced coconuts, grapes, apples and yogurt into the dessert plates.Thereafter, I placed the plates on the tray, which the server promptly took into the dining area.Sitting on a nearby stool, I sighed heavily and fluttered my eyes shut.As rewarding as being a head chef was, it was an extremely stressful job that involved standing for a greater part of my day. However, I couldn't have it any other wa
Stefano’s POV“Good day, sir,” Gregory greeted from the other end of the line. “I've gotten some information on Miss Lillian.”Placing my phone on the nightstand, I put it on speaker before wearing my coat.“Good day, Gregory. Go on,” I responded. “Tell me what you've got.”“From what I know, Miss Lillian currently works as a head chef at Watkins, a five star restaurant in Trafford. She is also not married.” Gregory divulged, and a pleasant feeling of hope warmed my heart. That meant I still had a chance to win her back and make her mine to love and care for.If Lillian forgave me, I was prepared to kiss her feet or even the ground she walked on.I would worship her like the goddess she was and never treat her like I did in the past. I had learnt from my mistake and now knew what was right.Nowadays I found myself dwelling on the possibility of what would have happened if I had opened my heart to love Lillian or at least considered her human and not my servant. If I had given her the
Lillian’s POV “Tell me you're joking, Lillian,” Nora gasped, her hands covering her gaped mouth as she stared at me in shock.I had just finished narrating yesterday's events to her, specifically how I had met Stefano at Mrs Laughlin's place and how he turned out to be her grandson. She had gone on a work trip a week ago, and had just returned earlier today. Currently, we were at my apartment.“I wish I was, Nora,” I sighed. “But there's nothing I can do. I need the money for lots of stuff. I want to start looking into getting a small restaurant space for myself and the money I make from Mrs Laughlin's event would probably cover a whole lot of the cost.”Taking my hand in hers, Nora sighed. “But are you sure you can face him? You said the event is for a week and based on what Mrs Laughlin told you, it seems he's going to be here for a while. Can you handle being in the same proximity with him for a week?”Swallowing harshly, I shrugged. “I can. I will just think of him as one of the
Lillian’s POV My eyes were playing games with me.Yes, that had to be the only explanation as to why my despicable ex husband, was hugging my client.Either that or I was having a nightmare. However, the moment Stefano pulled away from my client, Mrs Laughlin, and I didn't wake up from the nightmare doused in sweat, I realized that this was very much my reality.Today was only my first meeting with Mrs Laughlin and everything had already started going downhill.Clearing my throat, I looked away from Stefano, my heart scudding at his intense gaze, and moved closer to Mrs Laughlin.“Good afternoon, ma'am. I am Lillian Baker, from Watkins. ” I greeted her as Stefano helped her to sit.“Good afternoon,” She responded, her face creasing in a slight frown as she regarded me before recognition flashed across her eyes. “Oh, the wonderful spring rolls maker. I had your spring rolls at an event in Manchester some months back and they were the best I had ever had, so I knew I had to get you to
