Chapter 5 : The Golden Elevator

I adjusted my dress as I stood in front of the tall and magnificent building.

This was DG company, where I was going to begin life afresh. I didn’t need to fear as I have confidence in myself that I would get this job. I talked to Nina’s cousin on phone, and she seemed nice.

Working with her would be to my advantage.

I got in and realize how huge the inside was. People were busily walking around. And I could see the seriousness in everyone’s attitude. This company didn’t just earn the most thriving company in California for nothing. The workers were very efficient and hard to work with, unlike my father’s company.

Well, I do not have time to dwindle on matters that are past now.

I took a deep breath and walked to the receptionist.

I asked about where I could find manager Stella. And the kind and the approachable lady replied she was on the fourth floor.

I thanked her and, decided to use the elevator. But when I got there they had already left for the sixth floor and I wasn’t going to wait for it.

I saw a different elevator, which surprisingly was not in use.

I didn’t think much of it, since I was in a hurry.

I would just use it.

I got there and open it. And just as I was about to enter the floor I want to go to, I felt someone enter it too.

I turned over to who it was and it almost made me tremble.

He looked so familiar. He kinda reminds me of the man on the island.

But I shamed that thought in my head as, as that man looked like a mafia while this one here looked like a respectable businessman.

I wonder what his position is.

And what’s with the look he is giving me? I know I do not have dirt on me. But he is looking at me like I’ve made a crime by being here.

I can’t stand this anymore.

“Do I have something on me? If no then please do not look like me as if I’m a ghost Or something “.

I decided to let him know his place. As I can’t just stand and be treated as such.

He just chuckled. Even his laughter sounded like that man.

Germ, why I’m I still thinking of that man? He is not here. This man doesn’t look anything like him.

“What’s funny? “

I asked him. I couldn’t see his face clearly but as I decided he was going to just laugh it off again, he answered.

“I can’t believe, someone dares to take the golden elevator. You sure have a lot of courage young lady”.

I gasped as I finally saw what he looked like. His face. It can be the destruction of a nation.

I’ve never seen a human this beautiful. And those eyes were drawing me to him. He took my breath away. And  I can’t even look away

But wait, did he just say, I was in the golden elevator? The Golden elevator the whole city is talking about. With its high security and privacy? I knew there was something about this elevator, I just  couldn’t put my finger on. The exquisite and splendid decoration doesn’t look like one of those simple elevators. It just makes sense now. But he is in it too, and I know for sure, that the boss, Mr. Jeremy was the only one who had the right to this elevator. And if he was the boss, he would have made me leave even before it took off.  He didn’t have the right to make me feel stupid. I had to put him in his place.

“And you do not look like Mr. Jeremy, so how come you are also in here? Don't tell me you are his secretary. I wouldn't be surprised if you were”.

I said putting him in his place. He was just an ordinary worker and he wanted me to look like I’m the only person who made a mistake by taking the golden elevator.

“How do you think you are not looking at him”.  He asked. I could still feel myself drawing to him. Get a grip on yourself girl. Don’t lose focus.

“That’s because you would have told me to get off even before it took off”  I replied.

And before I could speak my next word,  he started drawing closer to me. What was he up to?

I started retreating and realized I hit the metal wall. I got trapped in his grip as he took my waist, surprised, and made me jump into his embrace. What did I just do? He looked like he was expecting that.

“You do not know me or who I am. And what my position in this company is. So don’t try and run your mouth all around me like I’m a co-worker. Even if I’m not  the boss, I’m still here. That should tell you I’m not that simple. And a word of advice for you. You Shouldn't go off telling people off in that manner. You might offend a big shot you wouldn’t want to “. He said shocking me.

And before I could process what was going on, the elevator stopped.  He was so domineering that I got lost in his stare.

“We’ve reached your floor,” he said bringing me back from my daydream.

I hurriedly got off as I didn’t want to spend a minute more with this guy, who is making me lose my senses.

I run off not looking back.

JEREMY

I couldn’t believe my eyes. She looked exactly like that girl. And even smelled like her.

I reached my floor and was greeted by my secretary.

“Welcome, Mr. Gray” he greeted.

And before he could say anything else I interrupted him.

“There is a new worker on the fourth floor. Find everything about her in the next 2 hours”. I said surprising him. And I didn’t care, I wanted to know who she was and if she was the same lady. Then that would explain the desire I had for her.

And she would never be able to escape this time around.
