Jovita's POV

"Hi, Mimoh,” I said to my grandma as I entered our family's pottery store.

“Jovie,” she said with a bright smile, hugging me.

My Mimoh was my best friend after Anna and Maddie. She knew all of my secrets.

When she was younger, she ruled the Grey pack and fought many battles for our clan. It's said that she was fearless as a lion and sly as a wolf.

Staring at her little form right now made me laugh, from a wolf to a puppy, I thought with a chuckle.

Thump!!!

“Mimoh!” I screamed as a firm, old hand hit my back.

“Oh, so you're making fun of me in your head, forgetting that I can hear your thoughts. I'm going to break that tiny back of yours, turnover.”

I twisted out of her arm and fled the store; the old woman could be a lion again when she was offended.

“I'd go see if Mrs. Brittany is done with the jar; I'd be back soon,” I screamed.

“You better not return today.”

“I will, ma. Bye, Mimoh.”

I started down the road that led to Mrs. Brittany's store, then changed my mind and headed for Maddie's house. She lived only a few miles from me, in the finer part of Foxtown town.

The wind blew languidly, causing the tree I was walking underneath to shed its pretty leaves. I bent down to pick one when my eyes caught something impossibly fast. I turned to see what it was but it was gone in the twinkle of an eye. Curiosity hit me, and I headed in the direction it had gone.

It was a cold spring day, and the air was heavy with the scent of the coming rain, but that didn't stop me as I headed deeper into the woods.

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhh,” I screamed a thousand times in my head as I felt a warm hand on the back of my neck, my heart palpitating wildly.

“I'm about to die, I'm about to die,” my inner voice whispered repeatedly.

“If you're that scared, why did you follow?” A deep, firm voice asked.

“What a pity, I thought I had found a brave girl, curious but scared—pathetic,” he said, releasing my neck.

I slowly turned to see who it was. It was the new guy I had seen with Eric earlier. What was he doing here? And why was he… Shit! I muttered covering my eyes with my fingers.

“Oh, sorry about the no-shirt-on, I didn't realize it would make you uncomfortable,” he said with a grin, clearly enjoying himself.

“You can open your eyes now; my shirt is back on.”

I opened my eyes slowly, expecting to see a half-naked young man, but his shirt was truly back on. How fast did he wear it? It was barely a second. Yeah, I knew werewolves were fast, but this was incredibly fast, even for a werewolf. Who the hell is this dude?

“Jayden,” he replied, staring at me intently.

“Uh?” who asked for your name, I thought to myself.

“You did, or do you have memory issues or something?” He replied.

“What? When?” I asked, surprised. He had heard my question; how?

“Who the hell is this dude, remember?”

I looked at him shocked.

“Oh, I see that rings a bell, maybe you're not that hopeless after all,” he said with a chuckle.

“I'm quite sure I didn't say those words out loud.”

“Yeah, you didn't.”

I stared at him puzzled.

“How did you hear them, if I didn't say them out loud?”

“How else?”

“Wait, you can hear my thoughts? How is that possible?”

“You can't hear mine?” he asked, looking perplexed.

“No.”

“Hmm.”

“What were you doing here by the way… Shirtless?”

“Running,” he said simply.

“Running?”

Yeah, he replied, staring at the branch of a large oak tree. The setting sun fell on his face, and his hazel eyes burned brightly. He looked gorgeous.

“I do it sometimes to clear out my thoughts," he said, a slow grin spreading on his face. “I guess I'm that attractive.”

My cheeks burned as I realized he had heard my thoughts. How embarrassing, I can't even have my private thoughts.

“Yeah, I know right.”

“Are you mocking me right now?”

“I'm I?”

“Hmm, forget that I said you looked gorgeous, you're annoying as well. Now if you don't mind, I'll be on my way.”

“Hmm,” was all he said.

I turned to stare at him but he was gone. The grasses growing by the path he had taken were bent slightly by the wind.

Who was this guy?” I thought.

“Hmm, he's probably a vampire, they're the only ones known to be super fast,” Maddie said.

We were sitting on her king-size bed, talking about what had happened between Jayden and me earlier in the woods.

“How can the Beta of such a powerful pack be a vampire? Vampires and werewolves don't co-exist.”

“Okay, the only logical explanation about what he is, if he's not a vampire, would be that he's a great white, but then he's Eric's Beta, a great white is usually an Alpha.”

“So you're saying?”

“Umm, he's a …vampire, Jovie, that's my conclusion.”

“If he was a vampire, he would have killed me.”

“Maybe he likes you,” Maddie said grinning widely. “Think, Jovie, he could hear your thoughts, and probably your heartbeat too, but you couldn't hear his. He's most likely a vampire, and he likes you.”

I stared at my bestie, wondering if she was going crazy.

“Are you trying to say the moon goddess mated a vampire and a werewolf? Does that even make any sense?” I asked.

“Probably not, but what is he? He has to be something.”

“I don't care; I have to get going. My Mimoh would be worried already,” I said, rising from the bed.

Or, or, or… Maybe… He's a…

“Maybe he's a wolf-vampire,” Maddie said as we reached her gate.

“Okay, Maddie,” I replied uninterested.

Jayden’s POVI sighed as I packed my black bike by the side of Foxtown’s beach. It was one out of the only two beaches in Foxtown. It has come to be my favourite hangout spot over the past four weeks since my arrival.I watched the waves crashing, and the wind blowing. Sometimes it was slow and tranquil, other times it was fierce and vigorous. I loved to swim on days when it was fierce, it was more of a challenge for me, something I did for fun.I proceeded to find my favourite tree where I usually lodged, taking a full view of the lovely, empty beach. I was told the folks here avoided this particular beach, and frequented the other, as they believe the ghost of a cold one, killed thousands of years ago by a great white, still lingered. I found the story implausible and stupid when Eric narrated it to me.I was just about to turn towards the path leading to my tree when I heard a low shuffling sound, my head snapped towards the direction it came from. I knew I was walking among tre

Jovita's POVI looked at Jayden perplexed, wondering what he meant by his question.“I should be the one asking that question”, I retorted. He looked at me, his brows set in conviction.I still couldn't wrap my head around whatever it was, he was insinuating.I turned to go, deciding to ignore him, as I wasn't in the mood for company, but he grabbed my hands and wheeled me to face him.As our gazes locked, turquoise in fiery hazel eyes, I felt a sensation rush through me. “He is the one”, a voice in my head whispered. Ordinarily, I would have chastised myself for my negative thoughts, but at the moment, I stood, transfixed.I tried pulling away but he held me back, his eyes glowing with determination.“What do you want from me? I'm just an ordinary she-wolf, maybe a little below ordinary as I haven't even wolfed out yet”, I said angrily. More like a bit angry, because his hazel eyes kept me transfixed and his sweet smell was sending signals to my brain, and my poor heart was beating

  • Descendant of the moon goddess.   He knew my mate...

Jayden's POVI stood by the hallway with the White Brothers. We were talking about the clue we discovered that could lead us to Uriel’s hideout. Many girls gave me flashy smiles as they passed my group, but I ignored them. My mind was Jovita. I had been thinking about her all day.Seth threw me another angry glance, and I ignored it. He was pissed. He had picked up my thoughts about Jovita, and he was not pleased with it, but I didn't care.I got to know from Eric that he was into Jovita, ignoring his fated mate. Knowing Jovita wasn't his mate put me at ease, at least I only had a few options to sieve through, but it hadn't answered the question of whether or not she was my mate.I was anxiously waiting for that answer as today was a full moon, a time when werewolves wolfed out, and met their mates. If Jovita and I were mates, we were bound to meet today, even if she hadn't wolfed out yet.A part of me was strongly convinced she was my mate due to the strong attraction I felt towards

If I had looked away for a second, I would have sworn with the last fur on my body, though I was yet to have a single fur talk more of a last fur, that the beautiful, large, white, angry beast in front of me was Jayden. He stared past me, his eyes focused on his mortal enemy, Uriel. Uriel stared back his amber eyes glowing in the dark, his posture motionless and ice-cold. He looked unreal.I still couldn't wrap my head around the fact that my childhood best friend was here in Foxtown. I had lived in California for a while before my family relocated to Foxtown. Uriel and I had attended the same preschool and bonded over the years until I left California. The last time I saw him was 14 years ago. What was he doing here in Foxtown, and what was he doing here in the woods at this hour? From the last I could remember, he was a human. He had grown into a very attractive young man, and standing there in the shadow of

Jovita's POV“I couldn't catch up with him, he took off to the water again”. He must know that I'm way faster than other werewolves, and not ready to risk a chance”, I said to Eric, a bit frustrated. I had lost Uriel yet again.Eric turned to stare at me.“You mean he was there the whole time?” He asked.“Yes”, I replied. This was the third time Eric had asked this question, and at this point, I was on the verge of screaming… though I think shouting would better describe my emotions. He conveyed messages in his thoughts, messages he'd never dare to say to his Alpha aloud. He was blaming Jovita for distracting me from catching Uriel. He felt she was a distraction to our mission, and also too low-class to be my mate.I glared at him trying to control my anger, I could feel shudders ripping through my body. My wolf was harder to control when it came to Jovita. Eric stared at me shocked and curious, he had never me this way. “I'm sorry, I didn't mean any harm”, He said, looking concerne

  • Descendant of the moon goddess.   The intruder...

Jovita's POV I stared at the intruder apprehensive. I couldn't distinguish who it was because he was standing in the shadows, but from the look, it was a man, probably around Jayden's age. Jayden had just left, and I was sure he was probably in the woods chasing Uriel with his friends, I didn't expect him to be here. “Jayden?” I called, just in case it was him. I could feel the droplets of sweat gathering on my forehead even though it was a very chilly night. Since the intruder didn't reply, I concluded it wasn't Jayden. My heart raced as he neared me, I took a step back reflectively, and to my horror, the intruder's gaze followed. If he had noticed that subtle movement, I thought he was not human. If he wasn't human, that left me with two options; he was either a werewolf or a cold one. But from the scent the winds carried towards me as he drew closer, I could tell he wasn't a werewolf. And he left me with my final option; he was a cold one. I felt chills down my spine at tha
