Jayden’s POV
I looked around at the strange faces as I drove into Foxtown. I was meant to come a day earlier with my cousin and best friend Eric, but I had a few issues to sort out, so I asked him to go before me.
Instead of going home from the airport, I decided to drive straight to Torin High School to meet him.
On getting there, I was told the students were having lunch already and directed to the cafeteria.
When I walked in, the whole room turned to stare at me, but I continued my search for Eric unbothered; I was used to people throwing admiring stares.
Just as my eyes fell on Eric, I cut the scent of something familiar other than Eric’s scent, and I felt my body react with excitement. _She’s here,_ the voice in my head whispered.
"Hey man," Eric said, coming to hug me; he must have perceived my scent.
"My flight was delayed, otherwise I’d have arrived earlier". "How is your first day at school going?"
"Not bad. I’m popular with the boys already, I got the girls drooling, and this pretty Luna by my side all day. What more can I ask for?"
I smiled; Eric was back to his player ways already; he had always had his way with women. It’s no wonder the moon goddess hadn’t granted him a mate yet.
"Whose she?" I asked, staring at the pretty girl seated a few meters from Eric’s table.
"I don’t know. I heard she’s a member of the outcasts, the Grey pack.
"She’s pretty stunning," I replied, still staring. The scent was getting stronger.
"She’s an outcast, Jayden, a member of the Grey pack."
"It doesn’t matter."
"It does, Jayden. Besides, I find her quite intriguing; earlier today, I heard her heartbeat. But then after that fraction, I didn’t hear it again, plus I felt no attraction towards her. And I think Betty is my mate."
"The powerful Luna?" I asked.
"Yes."
"Hmm, according to tales, when a male werewolf hears the heartbeat of a female werewolf once, it means he has found the mate of a family member."
Eric turned to stare at me like I had gone nuts. "The pack won’t approve of her, Jayden; the great whites would be furious."
"Isn’t the moon goddess an interesting woman?" I said with a chuckle. "Let’s see how it all turns out. In the meantime, would you be nice enough to show me around?"
We passed the rows of tables in the cafeteria with Eric telling me a bit or two about each group. Eric had the power to pick people’s brains and hear from far distances.
"This group is called the ancient pack; they belong to families of extremely old werewolves that have lived for thousands of years. It is said that Betty was to be the next Luna of the pack."
"The other group over there is called the brown ones; they’re a pack of pretty ordinary werewolves. From the look of things, they’re quite rebellious."
"The group on the right is called the great whites; they have accepted me already, as they earlier assumed I was the alpha of our clan. They come from families with great white wolves as the head, and their pack consists only of Alphas and Betas."
"The group at the end is called the black ones; they’re second in command to the ancient ones."
"And finally, the last group over there are just three best friends. They didn’t see it fit to move with the other groups. Maddie, the pretty dark head, belongs to the ancient ones; she’s Betty’s cousin and next in command after her. Phil, one of the great white Alphas, is her mate."
"Anna belongs to the black ones; her mate is Conan, the Alpha of the Black ones."
"Jovita belongs to the Grey ones; rumours have it that she was abandoned by her birth mother, while her father passed on a few months after her birth."
"Interesting," I said.
"Let’s go meet the white ones," Eric said, pulling me forward.
They all stood up in reverence as we reached them. They seemed to sense my powers.
"Guys, meet Jayden, the… Alpha and the next great white of your pack?" An Alpha with flowing white hair, whom I later came to know as Seth, the head of the pack, intercepted Eric.
"How do you know?" I asked surprised.
"I read Eric’s memories, and I think I might be related to you and Eric because I can hear your thoughts."
"We can hear yours too," Eric and I said in unison.
"Welcome, Alpha," Seth said with a deep bow, a sign that showed he recognized a greater power and was willing to let me take over.
"I have no intention of taking your position," I said quickly. "I’m on a mission here and will be leaving soon; I’d only need your help and cooperation."
"We are ready to help you in any way," Seth said with a genuine smile.
"We can trust them," I mumbled to Eric. "Now what’s the next plan?"
Eric and I, in concert with the rumour, had been sent to hunt down one of the cold ones. His name was Uriel. He had broken the treaty and killed a human on our soil. When the pack got wind of it? He fled to Alaska for refuge.
The young males of the pack had been dispatched to different parts of Alaska to find him. But recently, I checked on his trail and found out that he had sneaked into Foxtown. Instead of informing the rest of the pack, Eric and I decided to discreetly hunt him down to prevent him from slipping away this time.
"He is currently taking refuge with a Coven in the far east of downtown," Eric replied.
"We begin our hunt tonight then," I said.
"We’re running with you," Seth said, rising. I suddenly remembered that he had followed our conversation.
"I won’t want to put any of you in danger, Seth; the cold ones are quite slippery, and we don’t know how many of them belong to this coven or any of their abilities," I replied.
"We would run with you, brother," Phil, Maddie’s mate, said. He was tall and handsome with flowing dark-brown hair. He was the second in command.
"Fine, brothers," Eric said. "We’ll meet at 10 p.m. in the green woods."
"Can I ask a favour?" I said.
"Speak," Seth replied.
"The others believe Eric is my pack’s Alpha, and I’m just an ordinary guy; I’d love it to stay that way."
"As you wish, brother," they replied.
"Good, don’t forget to bring an extra pair of shoes," I said with a smile.
Jovita's POV"Hi, Mimoh,” I said to my grandma as I entered our family's pottery store.“Jovie,” she said with a bright smile, hugging me.My Mimoh was my best friend after Anna and Maddie. She knew all of my secrets. When she was younger, she ruled the Grey pack and fought many battles for our clan. It's said that she was fearless as a lion and sly as a wolf.Staring at her little form right now made me laugh, from a wolf to a puppy, I thought with a chuckle.Thump!!!“Mimoh!” I screamed as a firm, old hand hit my back.“Oh, so you're making fun of me in your head, forgetting that I can hear your thoughts. I'm going to break that tiny back of yours, turnover.”I twisted out of her arm and fled the store; the old woman could be a lion again when she was offended.“I'd go see if Mrs. Brittany is done with the jar; I'd be back soon,” I screamed.“You better not return today.”“I will, ma. Bye, Mimoh.”I started down the road that led to Mrs. Brittany's store, then changed my mind and he
Jayden's POV"He has fled downtown; he probably got wind of our arrival. I think he's currently taking refuge in the woods,” Eric said.I turned to the white Brothers. “Are there houses close to the woods?”“Yes, from what I know, Jovita's house is quite close to the woods. I think there is a house or two a few miles from hers,” Seth replied.“You know Jovita's house?” I asked.“Yes,” Seth replied simply, a look of surprise spreading on his beautiful face. His hair was held back in a ponytail, highlighting his features.“Okay,” I said. I quickly shook the thoughts of her off, knowing Seth and Eric could hear my thoughts.Eric threw me a knowing glance. “I'd watch over her house and the surrounding houses while you run,” he said.Relief washed through me. “Sure, the rest of us will… Don't worry about Jovita, Eric. I'll take care of her,” Seth intercepted.I turned to stare at Eric, communicating with my eyes. He looked at me helplessly, not knowing what to say. Seth stared at both of
Jovita's POV"I swear I heard a roar last night,” I said to my friends. We had just ended the day’s classes, and I was telling them about my encounter from last night. I heard sounds outside my house and opened my window to check the source, but there was nothing outside.Just as I was about to close my window, I heard a low roar behind the tree next to my window. Terrified, I quickly shut my window and went back to bed.“What do you think it was?” Anna asked, looking pale.“Maybe a wolf-vampire,” Maddie mumbled.“I'm not talking about my encounter with Jayden, Maddie. Besides, I thought we dropped the wolf-vampire nonsense.”“But what if he came back to haunt you for being rude to him? Or maybe he likes you,” Maddie said, her eyes twinkling.“What's up with Maddie? What wolf-vampire did you encounter, Jovie?” Anna asked, staring from Maddie to me.“I think Maddie is possessed by a wolf vampire,” I mumbled.“What?” Anna shrieked.“And that wolf-vampire is in love with Jovita,” Maddie
Jayden’s POVI sighed as I packed my black bike by the side of Foxtown’s beach. It was one out of the only two beaches in Foxtown. It has come to be my favourite hangout spot over the past four weeks since my arrival.I watched the waves crashing, and the wind blowing. Sometimes it was slow and tranquil, other times it was fierce and vigorous. I loved to swim on days when it was fierce, it was more of a challenge for me, something I did for fun.I proceeded to find my favourite tree where I usually lodged, taking a full view of the lovely, empty beach. I was told the folks here avoided this particular beach, and frequented the other, as they believe the ghost of a cold one, killed thousands of years ago by a great white, still lingered. I found the story implausible and stupid when Eric narrated it to me.I was just about to turn towards the path leading to my tree when I heard a low shuffling sound, my head snapped towards the direction it came from. I knew I was walking among tre
Jovita's POVI looked at Jayden perplexed, wondering what he meant by his question.“I should be the one asking that question”, I retorted. He looked at me, his brows set in conviction.I still couldn't wrap my head around whatever it was, he was insinuating.I turned to go, deciding to ignore him, as I wasn't in the mood for company, but he grabbed my hands and wheeled me to face him.As our gazes locked, turquoise in fiery hazel eyes, I felt a sensation rush through me. “He is the one”, a voice in my head whispered. Ordinarily, I would have chastised myself for my negative thoughts, but at the moment, I stood, transfixed.I tried pulling away but he held me back, his eyes glowing with determination.“What do you want from me? I'm just an ordinary she-wolf, maybe a little below ordinary as I haven't even wolfed out yet”, I said angrily. More like a bit angry, because his hazel eyes kept me transfixed and his sweet smell was sending signals to my brain, and my poor heart was beating
Jayden's POVI stood by the hallway with the White Brothers. We were talking about the clue we discovered that could lead us to Uriel’s hideout. Many girls gave me flashy smiles as they passed my group, but I ignored them. My mind was Jovita. I had been thinking about her all day.Seth threw me another angry glance, and I ignored it. He was pissed. He had picked up my thoughts about Jovita, and he was not pleased with it, but I didn't care.I got to know from Eric that he was into Jovita, ignoring his fated mate. Knowing Jovita wasn't his mate put me at ease, at least I only had a few options to sieve through, but it hadn't answered the question of whether or not she was my mate.I was anxiously waiting for that answer as today was a full moon, a time when werewolves wolfed out, and met their mates. If Jovita and I were mates, we were bound to meet today, even if she hadn't wolfed out yet.A part of me was strongly convinced she was my mate due to the strong attraction I felt towards
Jovita's POVI stared at the huge, white, beast in front of me, terrified. If I had looked away for a second, I would have sworn with the last fur on my body, though I was yet to have a single fur talk more of a last fur, that the beautiful, large, white, angry beast in front of me was Jayden. He stared past me, his eyes focused on his mortal enemy, Uriel. Uriel stared back his amber eyes glowing in the dark, his posture motionless and ice-cold. He looked unreal.I still couldn't wrap my head around the fact that my childhood best friend was here in Foxtown. I had lived in California for a while before my family relocated to Foxtown. Uriel and I had attended the same preschool and bonded over the years until I left California. The last time I saw him was 14 years ago. What was he doing here in Foxtown, and what was he doing here in the woods at this hour? From the last I could remember, he was a human. He had grown into a very attractive young man, and standing there in the shadow of
Jovita's POV“I couldn't catch up with him, he took off to the water again”. He must know that I'm way faster than other werewolves, and not ready to risk a chance”, I said to Eric, a bit frustrated. I had lost Uriel yet again.Eric turned to stare at me.“You mean he was there the whole time?” He asked.“Yes”, I replied. This was the third time Eric had asked this question, and at this point, I was on the verge of screaming… though I think shouting would better describe my emotions. He conveyed messages in his thoughts, messages he'd never dare to say to his Alpha aloud. He was blaming Jovita for distracting me from catching Uriel. He felt she was a distraction to our mission, and also too low-class to be my mate.I glared at him trying to control my anger, I could feel shudders ripping through my body. My wolf was harder to control when it came to Jovita. Eric stared at me shocked and curious, he had never me this way. “I'm sorry, I didn't mean any harm”, He said, looking concerne
Jovita's POVI sigh as I take in the sweet scent of a lovely summer evening. I'm standing by my bedroom balcony watching the flowers widen their pretty faces under the warm glow of the sun. Everything is perfect but not perfect. It's been three months since Jayden and Is coronation.Jayden is out training with Eric and the boys. Conan and Anne are married. Seth finally gave his mate, Crystal a chance and they're married.Eric and Betty's wedding is in a week. Maddie is still single. She vowed to be with no one but Phil.Jayden and Uriel’s fight is in three months. And finally, I'm still pregnant with my son. He has been in my womb for a year and a few months now. My mom comes around often, though I haven't forgiven her. My Dad visits too along with my cousin, Versant.Betty and my mom tell me my child is a special one, so I don't have to be worried about his delayed arrival.“I love this book”, Maddie says to Betty. She's reading a copy of “After”. She and Betty are seated on my bed, w
A year laterJovita's POV“With the power bestowed upon me by our ancestors, I crown Jayden, son of Edward as the ruler of the Golden pack, and as the grand master of the werewolf kind”, Marcus says, placing the crown on Jayden's head amidst cheers. As you might have guessed, we're done with the fighting, and Jayden is being crowned. We're now all sitting in the throne room.We buried Jayden’s father a week ago, and though there's still tension in the air, the fighting has stopped, and the pack is finally willing to accept Jayden as their leader, with me by his side.Marcus turns to me with another crown in his hands, and a murmur starts to go among the crowd.“I still don't understand why we have to accept her as our Luna”, one of the elders in the crowd says.“We won, you're hardly in a position to make suggestions”, Eric says. He is sitting beside Jayden.“You betrayed the pack, Jayden, look at all the havoc you caused”, Kreed says.“I gave my life to the pack, and they took it gle
Jovita's POV“What do you think you're doing?” Maddie asks me as I'm dressing up.We're in the tent that was made for me and my besties, Betty, and I. I'm dressing up to go and join Jayden and the others on the battlefield. Things are getting tougher for them. This whole fight, as much as I hate to admit it, it's all because of me. If Jayden hadn't chosen to be with me, then all this won't be happening. I can't let anyone die because of me. Not anymore.“I'm going to join the others”, I say to Maddie, packing my hair in a high bun.“You’re not going anywhere”, Maddie replies, planting herself in front of me. Betty and Anne went along with the boys to fight, while Maddie stayed behind to protect me.It was agreed I wouldn't fight because of my supposed pregnancy and the fact that I was the major reason the fight was happening in the first place. Killing me would be the best way to win.“I have to help, they're all out there risking their life because of me”, I say to Maddie.“They're n
Jayden’s POV“Are you ready?” Draco asks me.We're standing head-to-head with our opponents. It's time to fight. We're all in our wolf form, waiting for the battle line to be drawn. My uncle is visibly the largest wolf among us, though I'm slightly close to his size since I have two wolves. My Dad who insisted on fighting with us is standing a few feet from us. He is a warrior white wolf so he is almost up to my size. My pack’s council starts to walk towards us. They stop just a stone's throw from us. They're three extremely old great whites that have lived for probably a hundred years. They're revered and feared by all.“I see you went to join your son, Edward”, Castiel, one of the trio says. He is a handsome, well-built man, looking very much like he just reached his fifties. He is the leader of the trio.“He is my blood, and I believe he has a right to choose his love”, my father replies.“The pack comes before love”, Marcus says. He looks a bit older than Castiel.“I've always th
Jayden’s POVI follow my uncle wondering why he wants to see me. He asked me to leave, so why is he asking for me now?My uncle walks outside his castle to a black Phantom parked in front of the building.“Get in”, he orders, taking the wheel.“Where are we going?” I ask.“To see your mother”, he replies.By going to see my mom, my uncle meant going to see my mother's grave. He took her body that day, seven years ago, and he never let us see her again.“Why are you suddenly letting me visit her?” I ask, trying to control the emotions raging inside me.“Because she has been asking of you. She won't let me rest if I don't help you, so I don't have a choice. My uncle runs his hands through his black long hair as he starts the car.“Does she speak to you?” I ask after a while.“Yes. I'm sorry Jayden, for how I treated you all these years. It wasn't your fault, and I should have blamed you, but I was too angry”.I stare at my uncle in disbelief. Was he apologizing? The rest of the drive wa
Jovita's POVI lay down on Jayden's wet shirt anticipating what was to come.Jayden joins me on the shirt and leans himself up on his elbow to hold his weight so that he is lying on his side facing me as I lie on my back. I suddenly feel shy as his eyes wash over me, and I move my hands to cover my body.Jayden sits up and grabs my wrist, planting them on either of my sides. “Don't you ever try to cover your body, not from me”, he says with seriousness in his voice.“I’m just a little bit shy”, I say with a nervous chuckle.“You don't have to be. There are many things I want to do to you, Jovita”, he whispers in my ears, climbing on top of me, his weight supported by his hands. He is in a push-up position. His wet hair drips on my face, and I squirm, laughing. He places a soft kiss on my face before his hands start to explore my body. He starts from my neck, down the valley of my breasts, down to my stomach until he reaches my panties. He pauses for a while, watching me.His hands re
Jovita's POVI wrap my arms around Jayden and rest his head on my shoulder.“It's alright. It's fine”, I whisper, patting his back.“I'm sorry I kept it all away from you. I couldn't bring myself to relieve the pain”, Jayden says between sobs.My heart breaks as I hear him crying, and I forget that I'm angry at him. We haven't been this close since forever, and it feels good to hold him again.“It's fine, Jayden. You have to stop blaming yourself for your mother's death. You aren't the creator, and it was all bound to happen”, I whisper.“If only I had stopped her, things would have been so different”, Jayden replies.“It's the past now, and she would want you to let go of the guilt. She would want you to be happy”.“I don't deserve to be happy, Jovita”.“Of course you do”.“Everything I touch burns. Everyone around me gets heartbroken”.“You know that's not true”.“It's true, Jovita. I'm surprised you still hold on to me. I haven't been the best mate, and I've hurt you badly. You des
Jovita's POVI take off my clothes and head outside to meet Jayden. Thankfully I wore my favorite black undies. I reach the door and then turn back. I'm too shy to go out there to meet him in only a bra and panties. So I wear Jayden's shirt. I can't help but admire how his shirt smells like the rich cologne and the lovely smell I can only describe as Jayden. When I reach the pool, Jayden is already in the water. I can see water falling from his black hair. He smiles and pushes his hair back with one hand, his eyes twinkling with surprise.“Are you going to swim in that?” He asks, his eyes darkening as they take in my body. Impulsively, I tug at the bottom of his black T-shirt, trying to push it as far as it would go.“Yes”, I reply to his question feeling stupid. What was I so shy about? We've slept together about five times now.“Come on, are you shy, mate?” Jayden says, laughing.“I don't know”. I feel helpless right now.Jayden takes his bottom lips between his teeth, and I can s
Jayden's POV“There's no way in hell I'm letting you fight just for me”, Jovita says, pacing back and forth. We are alone in the hallway. The others are still in the room.“I'm fighting for my Luna and my throne”, I correct her.“Does that even make sense to you?” You could always find a new mate and rule”.“Don't you dare say that?”She runs her hands through her hair and bites on her pink bottom lips. “People are going to die, and why, just because of me? I can't bear that”.“It's you I'm choosing no matter what”, I say to Jovita, taking her hands.“Jayden?” Jovita whispers, her eyes glossy from the tears that are building up.“Please don't refuse me, Jovita. Tell me you want me too, tell me you want us”. I'm desperately waiting for an answer now.“I want you too, I want us, but I don't want anybody getting hurt because of me. You should do what your park wants. It's much better since your uncle refuses to help”.“I'm going to do what I want”.“Then let's not fight. I don't care abo
