Chapter 29

So my sister and her husband finally left my hospital room. They had been fussing over me ever since I woke up from the surgery. I appreciated their concern, but I really needed some peace and quiet. I had this banging headache that wouldn’t leave, so I decided to sleep it off.

I slept for what seemed like five minutes, but it was actually two and a half hours before my husband came in. He said he just wanted to see someone outside that it wouldn’t take long but now it was taking forever.

“Baby, I’ve been waiting for you,” I said in a sleepy voice as I opened my eyes and saw him standing by the door. He smiled at me and walked over to the bed. He leaned down and kissed me gently on the forehead.

“I’m so sorry, love. The business meeting took longer than expected, but I’m here now, okay? Are you ready to go? Do you feel better?” he asked, stroking my hair. I smiled and nodded. I felt quite lighter now that I had slept.
