I stepped out onto the balcony of my chambers and the night's cold air enveloped my body. I pulled the shawl around my shoulders tighter around my body.
I heard a clashing sound coming from Mrs. Cordelia’s chambers and a deep frown settled on my forehead because Mrs. Cordelia left two months ago to help Father on a mission. Leaving only me and Mother behind. And my brother is only to return home tomorrow evening. I left my balcony and once I was back inside my chambers, I grabbed one of the candles that was lighting up my room. I heard another clashing sound in the chamber next to mine and my heart started thumping faster in my chest. I carefully opened my bedroom door before I stepped into the dark hallway, I felt a cold sweat breaking out on my forehead, so I quickly brushed it away with the back of my hand. I walked down the hallway until I reached the door to Mrs. Cordelia’s chambers. Loud moaning and grunts were coming from inside the room, so I placed my shaky hand on the doorknob before I turned it, and then I stumbled inside the room. A loud shrill escaped my mouth when I saw my brother and Miss Charles doing goddess knows what. He was standing behind her while strangling her. I ran out of the room and down the hallway until I reached Mother’s chamber. “Mother, come quick! Brother is strangling Miss Charles in Mrs Cordelia’s chambers!” I yelled before I sat down on my mother’s bed. “Mia, what are you doing up at this hour?” Mother asked me and I frowned at her words. “Mother, Zion is killing Miss Charles. Get up!” I yelled at her, and Mother climbed out of her bed before she wrapped a white shawl around her arms. She left her room, and I followed suit. Once we reached Mrs. Cordelia’s chambers Mother angrily stormed into the room before she started hitting Zion on the back of his head. I frowned when my eyes landed on Miss Charles, she was not wearing any clothes. How shameless can one be? Wait if Zion was trying to kill her, why would he require her to be naked? “Mother stop hitting me! And give me a chance to explain.” Zion told our mother and she let her hands down to her sides. “Explain Zion. Explain why this cheap tart is sitting naked in my house right now.” Mother told Zion and he pinched the bridge of his nose. “I apologize ma’am.” Miss Charles said, and mother walked over to her, and she slapped Miss Charles so hard that the sound echoed throughout the house. “Your father is to hear of this, I will send word to him in the morning. You are not deserving of my son or my family name. The alpha is already engaged to be married!” Mother yelled into Miss Charles’s face, and she started crying in her hands. “This is not appropriate behavior for a beta’s daughter. You are a disgrace to this pack, Miss Charles. Now get your things and leave my house right this second.” Mother told Miss Charles and the girl that once seemed like a proper lady to me grabbed her dress before she scurried out of the room. Zion glared at me, and I looked down at my feet because I knew that whatever was happening right now was because I told our mother. “Zion, I am sending a letter to your father in the morning. You are to be punished for what you have done. And for what your sister had to witness. Shame on you Zion.” Mother said in a harsh tone before she grabbed a hold of my hand. “You are eight and ten years old and you had to witness such a heinous act. I apologize my beautiful girl.” Mother said and I frowned lightly. What exactly happened between Zion and Miss Charles? Because I am still trying to figure out what it is that I witnessed because it was definitely not a murder. Mother walked me into my room before she took my shawl from around my shoulders. She delicately placed it back inside my cupboard before she readied my bed for me. “Get some sleep, Mia.” Mother told me in a gentle tone, and I nodded before I climbed into my bed. “Mother, what exactly have Zion and Miss Charles done?” I curiously asked my mother, and she gently ran her hand over my soft blonde hair. “It is adult matters, Mia. But never you mind they are to be dealt with by your father and me.” Mother explained, and I frowned up at her. “Please don’t let Father hurt, Zion,” I begged, and Mother nodded at me. “Zion will be punished accordingly. Now go to sleep, sweetheart.” Mother said before she blew out all the candles in my room. She picked her candle up before leaving my chambers, and I frowned deeply. Whatever punishment Zion gets should also be mine because I got him into trouble with our parents. After breakfast, I made my way to the living area where I found Mother crocheting a light purple scarf. I curtsied before her before I sat down on the comfortable chair across from her. “Good morning, Mother.” I greeted before I picked up the thick book that I was in the middle of reading. “Good morning, darling.” Mother greeted me while she briefly looked up from the crotchet work that she was doing. “By any chance have you seen your brother around these parts of the house?” Mother asked me. “I have not,” I said before I started reading where I last left off. “Your brother never seizes to surprise me.” Mother suddenly uttered in frustration, interrupting my reading and I looked up at her. “May I now know what exactly it is that Zion and Miss Charles were up to last night?” I asked mother and she looked at me in shock. “You will understand once you have your own mate.” Mother said and I frowned at her words. “But Zion is Lady Iris’s mate, not Miss Charles’s,” I told Mother in co
I stood on my balcony and the wind gently blew through my long blonde hair. The silk shawl that was covering my arms didn’t really warm me up but it’s better than wearing only my night dress outside. I looked up at the stars before I let out a soft sigh. I wonder what it is like to be in love, lady Iris always brags about the way my brother makes her feel, but I think that the description differs from the feeling. Emotions are difficult to define and the emotions that I have experienced were extremely powerful. So, I suppose a mate’s love must be the most powerful of them all. I spotted a bright light heading in the direction of our house and I gasped in realization. I immediately went back inside my bedroom I grabbed one of the candles in my bedroom before I made my way downstairs. The front door of our house opened and in it stood my father, his coachman, and Mrs Cordelia. They were held up in a conversation, so I placed my candle down on the tabletop before I ran over to my fath
I looked out of the carriage that Zion and I have been traveling in for the past four days. It was snowing outside, and snow is a common thing here in the North. Sunlight however is a true rarity in these parts of the world. I looked over at Zion, he had been silent for most of the ride which was starting to stress me out. “Have you received your punishment from father, yet?” I curiously asked Zion and he briefly glanced over at me. “I have not but I am sure I will receive it in due course,” Zion said, and I frowned lightly. “I am sorry for telling on you. Had I known this would have escalated so drastically I would simply have kept quiet.” I told Zion and he smiled at me. “You would have told Lady Iris for she is your friend,” Zion said, and I silently looked at him. “You did the right thing. And I must now own up to my mistakes.” He added under his breath. “Why did you do it?” I carefully asked my brother and his green eyes settled on my face. “You wouldn’t understand, love.” H
I have yet to decide what I am going to tell the prince at the alpha conference. And that is the difference between Alcander and me, He has already made his choice, I have not. He has met his mate and he found no interest in her, I have yet to meet my mate and I’m scared that I will not like him. And what if I do like him, what would that mean? Would it mean that I like two wolves at the same time? Could that even be possible? Alcander took me to his library, and he already had a reading room prepared for whenever I would go to visit him at the palace in the future. Which is one of the most thoughtful things anyone has done for me in a while. Then why does it still feel wrong? Perhaps I should never have gone to the palace, maybe then I would not be feeling as guilty and confused as I do now. And why was Zion the only person in my family who cared enough to ask me if I wanted to meet the prince or not? I mean Mother made it seem as if I would ruin the reputation of house Arcadius ha
I glanced over at Zion whose fur was a dark shade of brown and so was Father’s the only difference between them is that Father’s two front paws are white, and the very tip of Zion’s tail is white. My wolf on the other hand does not resemble either Mother or Father’s thick coats of fur. Mother’s wolf is black and the fur on her belly is white. My wolf on the other hand is covered in a light shade of grey fur, my roots are white which almost resembles the ends of my hair. Most wolves would just describe me as white but there is a clear difference between white and grey.I stepped in a puddle of mud, and I screamed inwardly which caused Father and Zion to laugh at me. I shook my paw, hoping to get the mud off but it was to no avail. I placed my paw down on the ground before I walked up to Father and Zion who were standing on the edge of a very familiar cliff which is known to us locals as ghost man’s Cliff. There lingers a ghost here at night, the ghost of a very angry werewolf, I have a
“Your father just mind-linked me, he claims that it is safe for us to go home. They will meet us in the living area.” Mother told me and I silently looked at her, not moving from my spot. “Be fearless.” Mother said and I followed her outside of the cellar, we walked back home with Mrs. Cordelia and Miss Laurel shortly on our heels. We entered our house before we made our way to the living area and Mother opened the door without knocking. Her eyes turned yellow when she saw the unfamiliar man sitting on a chair in our living area. Her claws came out in sharp lengths. “How dare you come onto my land, and threaten the life of my daughter?” Mother angrily asked the man. Egad, I have never seen her this cross at anyone before. Not even at Zion.“Mel, ‘tis okay. He is a friend.” Father calmly told Mother and she glared over at Father with golden eyes.“This is no friend of mine, you do not trespass on my territory, attempt to murder my children, and still call yourself a friend.” Mother roa
I twirled a strand of my golden hair around my index finger as I made my way downstairs. I greeted every servant I walked past, and they nodded back at me in a greeting manner with smiles on their faces. I am in a good mood today simply because I have a visitor, I stopped in front of the door that led to the living area and Mrs. Cordelia curtsied before me before she knocked on the door in front of us. I heard Mother speaking in a soft voice, knowing that it was I. “Enter.” Mother said and Mrs Cordelia opened the doors for me, I gently lifted my skirts so that I wouldn’t step on them. I curtsied before Mother before I made my way over to my chair. “Did you sleep well? Because you seemed unwell last night. You did not even come down for dinner.” Mother told me before she placed the book that she was holding down on the small wooden table beside her. “I slept incredibly. How stands the hour, Mother?” I asked before smiling at her. “Tis nine a clock dear.” Mother responded before she
I looked down at the beautiful yellow gown I was wearing it had beautiful gold patterns on it, the only problem was that the corset beneath it seems to be far too tight and I have no time to fix it, we are to make our appearance any second now. ‘Tis the full moon of the Alpha conference. Mother reassuringly squeezed my hand, and I sucked in a nervous breath. My nerves got the best of me earlier, and I threw up which I would never admit to anyone but that is how on edge I have been since morning. I am meeting my mate for the first time and I will see Alcander. Besides that, I am afraid that my anxieties will stop me from having a good time. I’m sure Eros will have questions, addressing the rumors that had been circling the world for the past month about the prince proposing marriage to me. And about the fact that I went to house Gartreides to meet the prince in the first place. Zion walked over to my side, and I briefly looked over at him before I placed my gaze back on the guests do
I sat next to Eros at our dinner table, I placed my hand in his before I rested my head against his arm. We haven't fought in two days, well ever since our last fight we've been getting along incredibly well. He's been treating me more like a friend lately so, I have decided to forgive him for his past mistakes. The royal family entered the dining hall so we all got up from where we were seated. They gracefully took their seats and the other houses followed their league by sitting back down once they were done. "Do you remember that book you gave me when I first came to House Valaires?" I asked Eros and he smiled while looking down at me."Indeed I do." He told me so I softly smiled at him."Well, last night I went to my reading room and I started writing in it. I might never get to publish it but perhaps you could read it someday." I told him and he smiled at me."Marvellous, I would be honored to, my lady." He told me and it reminded me of the time that we had just met each other.
I carefully sneaked into the alpha mansion, desperately hoping not to run into Eros. I am certain I have Alcander's scent all over me. I need to be bathed and washed clean so that Eros would not suspect a thing. "My lady, alpha Eros is waiting for you in your chambers." A maid who appeared from behind a corner told me and I held a hand to my chest in shock. "Goddess, you gave me a fright," I told the woman and she shot me a warning look before she proceeded to polish the floor in silence. What do I do now? Eros is waiting for me in my chambers. I pressed my lips together before I went into the kitchen. "I need to bathe, but not in front of the alpha," I told one of the women and she nodded at me in understanding. "And I need one of you to bring a clean dress for me from the utility room, and not my chambers," I said and another one of the women in the kitchen nodded at me before she left the kitchen. "Please follow me, Luna Mia." The other woman told me so I followed her out of t
This morning I woke up with a fever, but goddess knows where this sudden fever has come from. I sighed lightly as I stepped out of my bathtub.“I cannot seem to figure out what is wrong with me, Miss Laurel. I know everything, and I have read every book so how come I have no idea what is happening to me?” I asked Miss Laurel who was fanning my warm body.“My lady, have you ever considered the possibility that this might be your heat? You haven’t gotten it yet, my lady.” Miss Laurel respectfully said, and my eyes widened at her words.“Miss Laurel do not speak of such nonsense. My heat- my heat, it cannot be my heat. I am certain of it. Egad, if Eros was to get word of this. Absolutely not! It must be something else.” I told Miss Laurel and she frowned at me.“My lady, it is dangerous for a she-wolf to ignore her heat. You must be with your mate because only he can make it better. If not, you might die, my lady.” Miss Laurel said while she looked down at her hands and I frowned at her.
“What is the meaning of this, your grace?” I asked Alcander and he clenched his jaw. “Let him go at once.” I said referring to Sir Allen who was now tied up in a chair. The ropes around his wrists and ankles were laced with wolfsbane and it was burning into his skin like acid.“My men just reported to me that this man was seen harassing you, are these claims true my lady?” Alcander asked me and my eyes widened in shock. Someone must have seen us just now.“He’s my friend. He did not harass me we were just talking, your grace.” I said and Alcander frowned at me.“You have no business talking to my guards, Mia. And this guard will be punished accordingly for disrespecting your family name.” Alcander told me and I shook my head at him.“He’s innocent. If anyone deserves to be punished, it’s me. Please punish me, your grace.” I said and Alcander looked at me in shock.“You would risk your life for this man?” Alcander asked me and I nodded my head at him. “And what if I kill him right in f
I walked inside the dining hall while Lady Sloane held onto my arm, she was excitedly greeting people with a big smile resting on her face. I observed my surroundings as Lady Sloane led us over to our table. Every king, superior, beta, and gamma was already seated, as Lady Sloane and I took our seats next to each other. The dance floor was filled with excited teenagers dancing with their friends and mates. And the ladies of the ton were already seated at a table opposite ours; they were accompanied by their mates also known as the lords of the council. Many people showed up tonight we were surrounded by tables that were occupied by lords, ladies, and only the finest of knights and they were laughing while helping themselves to meat and a cup of wine. My eyes landed on Sir Allen and as if feeling my gaze, he looked up at me. A smile rested on his face before he raised the cup of wine in his hand at me. I could not help but smile so I grabbed a cup filled with red wine before lifting
Zion put his sword away once he saw me approaching them and a smile that met his eyes rested on his face. I walked into his embrace before I wrapped my arms around him.“Hello, brother,” I said before pulling back from him and he kept me in a side hug.“Mia, are you quite alright?” Zion curiously asked me, and I nodded at him before I went over to hug our father.“Hello Mia,” my father said, and I simply nodded at him in a greeting manner.“I am quite alright, brother. Wherever is our mother? She would never miss a trip as big as this.” I said and Zion placed his hand on his sword as a light frown settled on his forehead.“Mia, Mother suffered a fall down the stairs on the last full moon. Her wolf is unable to heal her so she is healing slower than she usually would.” Zion said and I frowned at him.“Has she gotten better?” I asked in shock and Zion looked over at our father.“She might not survive this, Mia,” Father said, and my eyes widened in shock.“And you did not think to inform
I entered the doctor’s office and he smiled when his eyes landed on me. “Luna Mia,” he said in a friendly tone, and I nodded my head at him in a greeting manner before taking a seat across from him. “You wanted to see me, doctor,” I said, and the doctor nodded at me. “Well, you seem quite unwell, Luna Mia. Would you perhaps like to tell me why you are struggling to eat so that we can find a solution to this?” He asked me, and I smiled at him. “There is no need, doctor. My throat feels much better today, I just had a wonderful breakfast.” I told the doctor and he seemed shocked at my words. I had an apple and some water which is a very healthy and tasty snack. “Well, that is wonderful news, Luna Mia.” He said and I nodded at him. “Am I allowed to leave now? I have much to do.” I said softly and the doctor nodded at me. “Of course, Luna Mia the last thing I would want to do is keep you from attending to your daily activities.” The doctor respectfully said, and I nodded at him befor
“You may stand up,” Alcander said shortly, and I stood upright before I took my seat next to Eros. I took a glance at Alcander and found that he was already looking at me. He clenched his jaw before he looked away from me and I looked at the man sitting across from me, and I smiled at him. Zion is here and so is our father. Zion is the alpha of House Arcadius now and I am so proud of him, he smiled back at me, and just as he did so Judge Everly cleared his throat.I looked over at the old man who was now standing upright, he lifted his chin before he spoke ever so proudly. “On behalf of the king and the royal family, I would like to give a special thank you to the superiors of House Valaires for arranging this dinner. We are eager to see how things are developing here at House Valaires, we hope that this next month will be filled with adventure and knowledge.” Judge Everly said, and my eyes widened. Did I hear correctly? Are the superiors staying at House Valaires for a month? Why on
Two Years Later I stared at the window as I was sitting in the doctor’s office. I stopped eating again, five days ago. And Eros thought it would be best if we came to see the doctor about it. But it is my choice to not eat. I have done this many times before so this should not come as a surprise to Eros or our doctor. Eros of course does not like it when I go on these hunger strikes but I do not care for what he likes. “Luna Mia?” The doctor called me, and I snapped out of my thoughts before looking at him. “I beg your pardon,” I said softly, and the doctor smiled at me. “Are you willing to come see me tomorrow morning for a private consultation?” The doctor asked me, and I just nodded at him before I left his office and I listened to Eros’s footsteps as he followed behind me. “Mia?” He called me and I stopped in my tracks. “We are having dinner with my parents tonight.” He said pointedly and I clenched my jaw. “And I need you to be on your best behavior.” He said pointedly before
