A few months back...
I looked at myself in the mirror. I looked beautiful today in the shiny gown I wore for the party. It was a floor-length, green gown that complimented my green eyes. I was turning twenty today and my sister, Lindsey, and my uncle John had organized a party. My room door burst open and Lindsey in her black gown stepped inside.
"You're looking beautiful, Andy," She said as she stepped before me and smiled. I returned the smile which reached my eyes."Happy birthday," she said, hugging me.
"Thank you, Linds,” I replied and told her to help me with my hair. She nodded and turned me around to comb my hair while I patiently waited. She told me that Uncle John was waiting for us at our beach house where the party was held.
Lindsey and I weren't real sisters. I met Lindsey when we were just kids. Lindsey was a year older than me. Her mother was my tutor. She was a single mother but she died due to cancer when Lindsey was just a kid. My dad adopted Lindsey. I was happy because she was my best friend.
We both grew together playing around going to school. Life was merry. But then one day when I was nine, we both returned to our home from school. Uncle John was waiting for us. He was the lawyer of my dad and also a great friend to him. Lindsey and I, too, were close with him. But that day he didn't look normal, his expressions were grim. He told us that our parents died in a car accident.
That shook both me and Lindsey to our core. I could have hardly handled myself if uncle John was not there for both of us. While I was having difficulties holding myself together, Lindsey locked herself in her room for two whole months. After a year of efforts from Uncle John, Lindsey and I became stable. And from then on, our family only included Uncle John, Lindsey, and me. We all were each other's support.
"Done. Let's go," Lindsey voiced and brushed her hand in my hair one more time. I glanced in the mirror one last time. I was looking good. I picked my purse and grabbing my phone, we made our way out of the house.
My father was a business owner. He was in the hotel business who owned twelve resorts all over the country and more than twenty hotels. After his death, I took his position and became the owner of his hotel organization. The car was already waiting for us outside our house. We both got in the car and the driver started driving.
I asked Lindsey who was coming to the party as I didn't have any idea about the guests. I didn't even know about the party. They just informed me a few hours ago.
"Only a few people from the company," Lindsey reply while I nodded in response.
"You're twenty now. Are you planning to date someone?" Lindsey asked, smiling at me.
"What about you? You're already twenty but I don't see your boyfriend." I asked, raising my eyebrow. My sister was a little shy, but she was beautiful with her blue eyes, pale skin and blonde hair whereas my hairs were raven black with hazel eyes. She could have anyone as her boyfriend, but she didn't have one.
"I..um... I wanted to tell you," she voiced out and bit her lip. She only did that when she was nervous. I gazed at her curiously and waited for her to continue.
"Don't tell me you have found someone without telling me," I spoke when she stayed silent. I noticed her eyes going wide and her eyebrows shot up.
"NO! I haven't," she quickly stated. I fixed her with my gaze and my eyebrow raised in suspicion. She avoided my eyes when she spoke again.
"I just... You know I talked to this guy and he wants to go on dinner with me," She finished. I couldn't help but smile. She looked so cute when she was nervous. She finally found someone sweet.
"Oh Linds, finally. When's your date?"
"It's not a date, it's just a dinner. Day after tomorrow," she stated.
"Well, whatever you say, it's a date. What's his name?"
"First promise me you won’t do a background run on him," she stated knowing me all too well. I didn’t doubt her choice but I just wanted her to be safe.
"Fine I won’t," I spoke after a few seconds. She then told me about this guy whom she met at a café. He asked her out on the same day for dinner and they exchanged their numbers. I was glad that Lindsey was trying to be social as she did that rarely.
We reached the beach house. A man came to open our doors and we both climbed out of the car. I stepped beside Lindsey, and then we both made our way to the entrance of the house.
As we entered inside, I was mesmerized by the decoration. The entire mansion was lit with bright lights and the hall was decorated glamorously. A huge chandelier hung at the very center of the ceiling. I watched as Uncle John approached us when he saw us standing. He strolled towards us with a radiant smile on his lips and once he was in front of us, he hugged me. "Happy birthday, bunny."
"Uncle, I'm a big girl now," I whined. "You can't call me bunny."
The only answer I got in reply was there sound of their laughing. Shaking my head, I walked in, leaving them behind.
After a while, Uncle came to introduce me to some of his friends. I chatted with them for a while.
Later that evening, everyone was on the dance floor dancing with their partners. I was looking for Lindsey as I hadn't seen her around. I asked Uncle John about her whereabouts but he too had not seen her. So, we both went different ways to look for her. I searched the entire floor, but she was not anywhere. I called her but her phone was switched off. I started to get worried.
I decided to look for her on the terrace. Maybe she went up to get fresh air. I nodded to myself and strolled towards the stairs. I carefully stepped on the stairs, not wanting to trip due to my heels.
As I reached the top of the stairs my jaw dropped to the floor and my eyes went wide when I saw Lindsey glued to the wall, struggling against the person who was holding her with both his arms and was trying to forcefully kiss her.
"Please, let go of me," Lindsey cried as she tried to push him away from her. I saw her struggling against him, but he was too cruel to let go of her. I was boiling in anger. My knuckles turned into fists as rage build inside of me. With quick steps, I made my way towards them and closed the distance between us. I grabbed the collar of the man from behind and pushed him back from my sister, who slid to the floor crying. But that guy didn't get the message. I heard him shout absurdity, and I turned to look at him. "You bitch..." he spoke as I took a step towards him. My hands were itching to slap him. I was continuously gritting my teeth in anger. He opened his mouth to say something, but before he could, I kicked him in his stomach. He stumbled back. Taking few seconds to balance himself, he lurched towards me. I held out my fist to punch him, but he grabbed my fist and twisted my hand. I groaned when a jolt of pain shot through my wrist, but that didn't stop him as
After leaving both my Uncle and Lindsey on the stairs I made my way to my room. I rummaged through my entire room to pack the stuff I needed. I changed into skinny jeans and a tank top. Uncle told me he would call the cops after I had successfully left the house. After packing everything, I strolled outside the mansion from the backside as to not gain any attention. Once outside, I walked far away from the mansion. It was late so I couldn’t find a cab. My phone rang, and I pulled it out of my pocket. It was my uncle. “Did you leave the house?” he asked. I nodded, even though he couldn’t see me. "Yes," I told him. He told me to not call him with this phone and to throw it on my way. He added that once I’m somewhere safe, I should call him. I was getting nervous with each passing second. "Have you called the police yet?" I asked, biting my lower lip. "Not yet. But I'm calling after hanging up." He finished. "Bunny, everything
A loud voice of smashing something jerked me from my sleep, and I fell from my bed. Groaning, I looked up to the door from where the sound came. The room door was slung open and three men in black suits were standing at my door. I stood up from the floor as a man reached towards me. "Who... who are you?" I muttered. It took me a moment to realize who those men were and why they were here. No one said anything for a while, but then the man who reached towards me shouted, “Take her.” As the man stepped inside, I backed away from them. "Stop," I said and held out my hand in gesture. The men stopped, and I continued, "I'll come, don't grab me like an animal," I stated. Both men turned to look at the one who ordered them to take me. He nodded, and I sighed in relief. I grabbed my bag from the bed and padded my way to the door, but just as I reached the man who was ordering, he grabbed me by my shoulder while the others took off downstairs, leaving us to walk behind them.
Lindsey fell to the floor in the pool of blood that poured out of her body. I ran to her limp body and kneeling beside her, I placed her head on my lap."Linds..." I cried as she went unconscious. Her eyes were closed and I couldn’t feel her heartbeat anymore. Pain and agony filled me. I cried, hugging her to my chest. The stench of blood filled my nostril and my hands trembled when I noticed her blood on them. My eyes were wide as I shook her, again and again, to wake her up, to run away with me. A part of me hoped that she would wake up any minute but she didn’t. Minutes passed by and I just stared at her while tears continuously rolled down my cheeks. He shot her three damn times, that son of a bastard killed my sister.I stood up and stretched my neck to him. He stood with his hands hanging on each side, still holding the same gun with which he shot her.“You…” I strolled towards him and stepped in front
I slowly opened my eyes, only to see myself lying on the floor in an unfamiliar room. I slowly sat up with the support of the wall behind me and winced in pain. My eyes shifted to my leg, and the sight grossed me out as it was covered in blood. I lifted my fingers to touch it but did the opposite, as the wound was still open and the blood was pouring out of it. I looked around the room and realized that it was the same cell where I found Linds. As the memory of her went through my mind, my eyes prickled with tears. The room was small and dark, only a small bulb lit above me. The cell door was locked. It was a metal door with a square glass window at the top which showed me the bright lights igniting the hallways outside. I was still in my old clothes. My tank top was drenched in the blood same as my skinny jeans below my knees and my hair was a mess on my shoulder. The metallic smell of blood and sweat flooded my nostrils, and it sucked. I winced in pain again and decided to
The yellow rays of the sun shined on my eyes through the wrecked window of my room. I was sleeping peacefully until I heard the footsteps rushing towards my room that shook my entire body, and my sleep went out of the window. The fear of getting caught took over me. Caught byhim. I quickly pulled out my gun, which was under my pillow. Climbing off the bed, I stood in front of the closed door of my room with my gun fixed on it. "Andrea," shouted Claire from outside. Her voice calmed my racing heart and relief flooded through me. I lowered my gun and walked to the door. Claire’s worried eyes met mine when I opened the door. "What happened? Why are you running?" I asked, with my eyebrows knitted in confusion. "We have to go, pack your stuff," she announced. I didn't have to ask any further as I nodded to her in response and went back to my room while Claire strolled back downstairs. I started packing my stuff. I took out my bag
