The second the recording had finished, the entire audience was hushed. Alice reckoned that if somebody were to drop a pin, everybody would hear it.

She nervously gulped, removing her hands to look up at Emilia.

Emilia was staring straight at Alice, with a funny sort of satisfied look. She looked rather pleased with herself. But at the same time, her eyes were showing her a slightly darkened look, a look of guilt and pity.
