MAEVE LILY...

"Theo..." My tongue rolled against my will. I wanted to get close to him but stopped in the next second,

"What are you doing here?" His tone filled with abhor.

I looked back at those brown orbs. His icy gaze shook me from the inside. The disdain he has for me still hurts like the first time. Years passed and my softness toward him never decreased though he hates me now.

But he wasn't like this from the beginning. We used to be friends during our childhood. The first time I stepped into this mansion, I was alone, distant from my father. Other people ignored my existence. However, Theodore didn't.

He came to me, played with me, and soon became my only wish. All I wanted was to be with him. Love knocked on my broken heart expectedly and I began to dream to fly with him.

Then a day came. A very unexpected and unpleasant day in my life when my dreams shattered in pieces. He came in front of me holding hands with Alyssa.

Alyssa, my stepsister. A year younger than me. Or

MAEVE LILY... Before my thoughts were processed, I was pushed back by Theodore before he jumped into the cold water for Alyssa, splashing some on me. Startled, I stumbled back, losing balance, I fell to the ground on my butt. Immediately a sharp pain chimed in, forcing a hiss out of me. Soon the quiet night turned into a messy chaos. Maids, guards and our parents rushed out. Theo saved Alyssa from drowning and came out of the water, holding her in his arms. Maids brought warm towels, trying to send some heat to her shivering body. In the short distance, I was sitting on the ground, dumbfounded at the scene. What the hell just happened?!She inverted my peace, provoked me, hurt me and now she's the one with attention and care while no one bothered to even spare a glance at my way. Sadly enough, my own father too. But why I am sad? This was expected, right? I shouldn't be bothered or hurt by something that had been a crucial part of my life. Their negligence and hatred have been al

LEO... I paced in her little apartment. Off-white walls, a queen-sized bed that made a squicky sound once you got in. An unmatched couch. A little fridge and beside it a little kitchen space. A stuffy room with lethargic decor sense, much less a woman's room. It seemed she rarely came here or was too careless to care about these things. Slumping on the couch, I glanced again at the little clock on the east-side wall. Probably the only thing that was placed carefully on the off-white wall. It's past Midnight and she is still not here. Where on earth did she go at this hour? Boyfriend? My brow arched at the thought, yet the idea immediately hushed away. She didn't seem to be one with a Boyfriend, especially the way she behaved so naive around men. I could be wrong, but my senses didn't disappear with my memory, so...Where she could go then? My thoughts were crumbling with no satisfying answer. And much more exhausting was I was too bored to even think of a stranger and her whereabo

LILY... I lied. I did not have dinner. I am too full of insults and bitterness, lacking my appetite. Even if I let go of today's incident thinking of a regular nightmare, I could not put my mind at ease. I still need to manage 170k in two weeks. Tears of menace finally rolled down my cheeks as I slipped on the cold floor of the bathroom. What would I do now? I have no family or friends to support. My only family was lying in the hospital bed, fighting for her life day and night. What would I do now? Why God is doing this to me? I looked up at the ceiling. Grandma used to say God sees us, hears us and helps us if we choose the right path. Then why is he not helping her? Why is she suffering? She was a good soul, and neither did I do any wrong in life, then why? Why God is taking my loved ones one by one? First mom and now Grandma. What did I do wrong? Please tell me... I cried, demanding an answer from God. Where did I go wrong in life? Can you just give her back to me? Please...

LILY... I stared at the phone for a good long moment until Jason knocked on my desk. "Penny for your thoughts?" I gazed up, blank. Theodore's words were ringing in my head. 'Meet me in the 'SunShine' cafe, I am waiting for you.' A war had emanated in my head, giving me a feeling of being crushed between two different emotions. Jason's brows furrowed slightly, "Lily, are you there?" He lightly tapped on my shoulder. "Ah-yeah, I guess I am." I stood up. "I... Have to go out for some work. So, if you could attend my phone calls... Please." I requested and he nodded, "I will, but are you sure you're fine?" "Ye-eah, I am... Thanks, Jason." Hurriedly leaving the desk, I came out not leaving him a chance to ask further questions that I won't be able to answer. Slowly, I was walking over the sidewalks. Exceptionally slow with my steps. Don't know if I was nervous or reluctant. I am so confused about my own feelings! It took me almost five minutes to reach there while it's highest 2 minu

LILY... "Mr Wilson..." The waitress formally gritted him. His eyes gazed at her once before setting on me. One hand Inserted in pocket, Theo walked toward us. His cold brown gaze was void. It always raised a doubt in me if he was the same person I knew once. How could a person change over a night? Still, the thought haunted me every night. "What happened here?" He asked again. My gaze lowered as I heard the waitress describing the situation... "And so, I wanted to confirm how Miss Maeve would like to pay." She ended and my head lowered more. I could never pay. Even if I sell myself 24 hours a day, I could not! I am broken with no chance of repair. "Alright..." He spoke. "Give us a moment. Once my meeting with her is done, you can take out your loss." He said, shaking me from inside. Probably, this is the end of me. "Sure sir, please have a seat." She escorted us to the previous table and waiters cleared the mess I created there. As soon as we were seated, she asked again, "What

LILY... I stared at the cheque for the 5th time since I returned to the office. The six digit number still managed to tremble me, reminding our conversation in the cafe. Once I agreed to his demand, Theo kept his promise and handed me two cheques signing immediately. One was 450 thousand which was paid as compensation and the other one was 250 thousand, which I kept with myself. This is for grandma. Honestly, I don't feel much humiliated anymore while managing the money for Grandma. I would simply apologise to Alyssa after cutting all the ties with that family. But, that could wait a little. I have more important work to do. Picking up my phone, I called Dr. Cane. He picked up after a few rings. "Yes, Miss Lily?" His voice came over and I lightly greeted him. "Doc I called to inform you that, I managed the money for Grandma's surgery and I want it to happen as soon as possible." "That's great, Miss Lily. I will inform the surgeons and once the committee decides, I will inform yo

LILY... I stared up at him. His eyes were on those men. At this point, I am not sure whether to trust a man or not. Because in my life, men suck. "Come on, take her," Leo said again, pushing me a little forward. He was holding my hand now, so even if I wanted to run, I couldn't! "Leo! What are you doing!?" I hissed at him, trying to withdraw my hands from him. However, he ignored my words, staring at those three men. "That's what we're talking about." The blonde said and stepped forward. My heart dropped. Could my day be any worse than this? Struggling to remove his tight grip and kept failing. Tears of shame rolled down my cheeks. "Ple-ease, Leo..." I pleaded, but his eyes were coldly stayed on the man who almost touched me. Just when he was about to touch me, I was jerked back to Leo's hard chest and felt his one hand holding me tightly and at the same time a groan pierced through the air, freezing me there. LILY... "He has been stabbed over 15 times. The killer might hate him so much. His neighbour felt something was wrong and went to check. Sigh... The poor woman must be in trauma after the scene." Max said. "Umm... Anything else?" I asked, Sitting in the opposite of his desk. "I mean, who could be the killer? Any hint?" Max shook his head. "Not yet." He looked around before lowering his tone, "And you must not be too curious about this matter. He was involved in the politician murder case and now this happened. It's dangerous, Lily." Closing my notebook, I chuckled. "Are you seeing me after danger the first time?" He sighed, narrowing his eyes, "Better my name is not connected to this case. Inspector Brian was my senior and this is morally a crime for me to share any inside news with you. But..." He let out a helpless huff. "What could I do? You're a friend I couldn't deny." "You're an amazing friend both personally and professionally." I stood up. "I'll leave now." "Hmm, don't

LILY... I yawned, stretching my hands and fluttered my eyes open. The narrow ray of light was entering through the little window of my room. I smiled. It's a good and very free morning of my life. I couldn't help the grin broke on my lips... So refreshing to think that I kicked out a huge toxicity of my life! Sooo Good! Fluttering my eyes again, I looked at the small window. But, why does it feel so close this morning? I mean, sleeping on the couch, this window is a bit away from me, isn't it? Or, was I wrong? As if to answer my question, something firm wrapped around my waist, making me confused as well as alert... "Good Morning..." A deep husky tone muttered beside my ear. Fuck! I immediately jumped out of bed only to fall on my butt "AaGh!" I cried out and looked at the intruder only to gasp in agony, "Leo!" His bluish-green gaze was on me, frowning. "What stunt are you playing this morning?" He asked in a groggy voice, turning me dumbfounded. "I am playing!?" I barked at h

LEO... I woke up in the late afternoon. Couldn't sleep the entire night thinking about the ridiculous shit I did in the club. I fucking kissed her! Her soft lips felt like cotton candy, and her soft berry scent was delicious... Since the day I met her, I wanted to kiss her and finally, I did, but... Now I want more even though it happened at a crucial moment, I couldn't stop thinking the feeling of her! That woman was insanely climbing all over my thoughts! After that kissing incident, I kept myself shut to not do something more crazy. Though I don't know how long I could maintain this peace. Every time I think of her, my imagination runs wild and the effect is clear under my trousers! Sigh... Sitting on the bed, I looked around. Lily was nowhere to be seen. Wait... Where is she? It's Sunday today and she's still out for work? Such a pathetic life of a reporter! That woman really does not care about her safety, does she? What if she faces sort of the same troubles? I'm not beside

LILY... Not even three days passed and on the fourth day, I was standing right in front of the hell. I swore to not appear here after that insult but here I am, again I am here because Mom called me this morning. At the age of Fifteen, I left this mansion. It's been over nine years since she called me. I know I shouldn't after that night but I couldn't deny her because of the promise I made to Theo. If it wasn't for Grandma, I wouldn't bother to show up here ever. Taking a deep breath I stepped inside. Surprisingly, no one stopped me and I went to the hall. Alyssa, Ruby and Dad were Sitting there. The environment was gloomy. Something definitely happened here. "You called me?" I directly asked Ruby. For some reason, my usual fear wasn't working anymore. Probably because Grandma's safety was managed. She looked up at me. Her cold eyes were sending chills at my way. Beside her, Alyssa was leaning on her shoulder with her bloodshot eyes. "How dare you get in here!?" She roared at m

LILY... Lord! I messed up! What to do now!? It's not my first time doing such a thing, yet I am frozen here. And before I realised, I was pulled back hastily as Leo covered the crack. "W-we need to leave," I muttered before opening the storeroom door to leave but paused at the sight of those men. Shit! They smelled us here! Immediately closing the door, I backed up. Hope they don't enter here. "What the fuck!? Are you always this clumsy!?" Leo hissed. "Who gave you the access to become a crime reporter!?" I was already annoyed and his taunts were worsening it. However, my annoyance died inside when footsteps neared the store room. Shadows of suspicious footsteps were just outside the door. I backed away, hitting my back at Leo's chest. I could feel his rigid figure. The knob of the door twisted and my heartbeat stopped for a moment. Suddenly, Leo grabbed me by the waist, pushing me on something hard and his lips followed mine next, stiffing me on the place. In the next second th

LILY... Sigh... I stood helplessly in the phone booth, begging that annoyed specimen to bring my phone. Could my day be any worse than this? "Please, Leo. I need my phone now." I pleaded again. "You're asking a sick man, who is almost bedded because of you, to bring your phone to you because You're careless? Hmm, interesting..." His reply came from the other side. "What if I decline?" "No, please! I beg you! I need my phone, Leo. It's important, please!" I said, defeated. No more stingy with my pleas. "Ah, I don't want to... But, I guess, I will consider you this time only..." He paused and I was eager, "Only what?" I urged impatiently. "Only if you make breakfast for me every morning and don't nag me sleeping on your bed." "....." I could definitely feel a smirk on his face even on the phone. This fucking arshole! "Leo, don't you think it's too much?" I gritted my teeth. "Is it?" He asked as if there was no one innocent than him! "Alright then, help yourself." "No, wait!" I

LILY... Rushing out for evidence at any hour was a part of my job. I accepted it as a part of my life because once I dreamt of becoming a crime reporter, I knew every day would be a new challenge for me. When Grandma used to live with me, she used to nag always for my safety and I used to kiss her cheeks and rush out with a smile. Since she was admitted to the hospital, no one did her part for me. Tonight was the same or it could be, if Leo didn't show concern for me before I left the house. Though I was indifferent at that moment my heart convulsed with a warm feeling I had never tasted for more than a year. He was a stranger who somewhat forced into my life. A bit annoying but harmless. As a woman, staying with him under the same roof didn't give me insecurity. Though I would never admit this in front of him, I could not deny the fact either. I don't know who he is, where he came from or what happened to him. But Leo is a gentleman. A woman's instinct could never fail when it's
