••TWO MONTHS LATER••
It was a Tuesday morning, and the bright morning sun shone brightly through the streets of States. Alex, now ranking amongst the top five successful business men, was known for his precision, had make sure to spend extra ten minutes preparing for today's work and to look good than usual as well. He'd landed a contract as a new lead supplier of office material for a large trading firm and needed to make a good impression. As he cautiously straightened his black tie one more time, his right lingered on the reflection in the room mirror hung before him. The businessman admired himself, all smiles, and felt a jolt of excitement. Today would be a start of new chapter in his life, a day filled with larger budget and even loftier aspiration —the weather was unusually good that morning, so he could promise himself that. Within that same room of his, also beaming in anticipation was his wife, Rosy. A true vision of femininity, she bore an image that bought compassion to the Greek goddess. Beneath this pleasant unruffled exterior, she held within her a powerful desire to make her mark in the world. It was this surface of her appearance, the longing for greater influence and wealth, that had drawn her close to Alex. On that fateful Tuesday, the radiant sunlight made its way through narrow slit between the curtains and gently caressed Rosy's golden look. The room, steeped in warm, ambient light, present an air of heavenly comfort and the couple felt it. It was in this divine settings that Rosy, feeling confident in her delicate beauty, resolved to traverse the line of business management and assert her position in her husband's heart and asset. As Alex was about to leave the room, buttoning up his suit jacket, to project an image of authority, Rosy intercepted him, her footsteps were as light as waltz, yet somehow maintained command over the room with a warm smile on her face. She gracefully tilted her head, and her blond curls dance like waves on the sun kissed beach. Her eyes glistered like the surface of the Thames catching the afternoon sun and she spoke with an irresistible allure. "My dear husband..." She called out softly, placing delicate hand on his chest to halt his progress towards the door. "We must talk." Alex, fascinated by the sudden deflection, met her gaze. "Of course, my dear beautiful wife, we can always discuss anything. In spite of it, I must remind you that I have rather important meeting today." He told her in reply in the most calm voice he could muster. "I don't want to be late to work today, I'm sure you understand what I mean." Rosy, though with unwavering resolve, continued. "Yes, I am aware of your meeting, my dear Alex but this is a matter that pertains to both of us —our future, I wouldn't be stopping you like this if it's not important." She paused for a moment, allowing Alex to weigh the gravity of her words before she would continue again. As expected of Alex, he did not interrupt her and still keep his cool even after her brief pause: the best he could do was watch her finish whatever she has to say to him. "As you know, our Union is a one that speaks of love and dedication. It is one that has unites our lives as completely as we are able. And, since we now share the same path in life, I believe it only fitting that we share name in all aspect including your properties and company." She completed her words, her gaze fixed on his and giving him the kind of stare he can barely resist or look away from. Caught off guard, Alex initial excitement for the day begin to completely changed into a pressure paved mountain within the space between them —this was the least he expected from her. Even though he did expect this from her since they are married, at least, not this soon. He managed to retain a hint of smile as he replied. "Rosy, my love, I understand your willingness to contribute to our life together, but surely you know that such a conversation requires a great deal of thought and time. Perhaps we can broach this subject when I return from work today?" He sound cajoling, his facial expression gentle and kind. Rosy, did not try to hide her disappointed, nonetheless remained poised and elegant. "Very well if that is what you wish." She accepted tacitly in a soft voice, feigning contentment. As she gracefully distanced herself, her eyes betrayed a glimmer of frustration —a fleeting moment of vulnerability that Alex had just refused to address. As Alex stood squarely at the door, the way of his choice carried by his hesitance and even a hint of sorrows. The sturdy wood of the door frame feel like a barrier between their ambitious and affections as he couldn't shake the gut feeling that his response had created a tiny hairline fracture at the foundation of their marriage. With knot brows, he delicately spoke his parting words. "It is not my intention to disappointed you, Rosy, you know I wouldn't. Trust that I will give this my utmost consideration upon my return, we shall, together, find a proper resolution." He uttered softly. Rosy, sensing the sincerity in his words, offered her husband a gracefully warm smile —she knew it, she knew he's just too soft to refuse her requests; literally, he can't. The least she could offer him was her usual charming smile, the type Alex could not resist, not even anyone and then, it's done! "I trust that we will come to a good conclusion..." She remarked, brushing his shoulders lightly as though she was dusting off perk of dust on his blazer. "...when you return from work." Alex grinned in return, but his countenance displayed an air of strained determination. "Sure, Rosy, we will..." He responded with a positive vibe. With that expression held within his heart, he kissed her softly on her forehead before he turned and left, closing the door gently behind him. As the door latched, Rosy, abandoning her initial loss of hope and disappointment, regard the room with new hope found. Yes, she had not yet manage to implant her name in Alex's achievements but the seed has been sown, but she believe that with love, strength and perhaps a little bit of cunning, it would bear fruit —greater than her initial thought. At that moment, the sun that's always a witness to human fortunes, spilled across her face, emphasized the contours of her beauty and the intensity of her dreams. Now the two, love and ambition, intertwined as deeply within her as they did with the unions she shared with her husband. “Will their love be strong enough to bear the weight of their ambitions, or will the surface of that dignified dream crack, revealing a abyss too vast to traverse?” These would have been any other lady's thoughts but with Rosy, things were completely different —she wasn't really chasing love, her intentions might not be as Alex had thought them to...Still that same day after Alex had left for work, it was warm as the sunlight reflects brightly as it shines, adding more beauty to the streets of States. However, it did not last too long as the climate suddenly changed. Soon enough, the supposed warm and fine weather was abruptly changed as it rain slightly, the atmosphere suddenly turning cold and fuzzy. On that cold, colorless Tuesday afternoon, heavy with the weight of imminent decision, Alex sat in the conference room of his office alongside with his diligent staff members. He fidgeted continuously, struggling to focus on the words bouncing around the room as his mind was filled with the echoes of the conversation he had had with his wife, Rosy only few hours earlier.Alex and Rosy had weathered many storms over the dozen months they had been together. Through tremendous hardship and joys, they had managed to remain steadfast in their love for each other; being each others source of strength. “...And, since we now share the sa
Lisa exited the conference room, her mind buzzing with the ideas that had been discussed during the meeting with her executives. As she exit the entrance of the conference room, she saw a familiar figure standing outside with his both hands buried in his pants pockets, his back to her. She was surprised to see Andy there, as she knew he had a surgery scheduled at the hospital."Andy?" Lisa called out in surprise, approaching him. "Is that you?"Startled, Andy turned around, his face lighting up at the sight of Lisa. "Hey, Lisa!" He uttered, a sly smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Do I look fake? Ever come across my doppelganger before?"Lisa scoffs, already used to his nonstop teasing. "Maybe your doppelganger would make a better person than you." She enunciated, barely smiling at him. "I can't wait to meet him."Andy held his chest dramatically, feigning a hurtful expression. "Ouch, that hurts a little, Lisa!" He frowned with a slight groan but Lisa only shrugged in reply. "H
In the sterile environment of the hospital waiting room, surrounded by hushed murmur and the faint scent of disinfectant, Andy sat beside Lisa, fearfully comforting his Cousin and fondling her palm as he awaits the doctor's assessment.A million question plagued his mind, each one darker and more troubling than the last. Has she suddenly developed a food allergy? Was it something more sinister? Those were his unsettled thoughts as he held Lisa's trembling hand, during his best to ease her worry while his head pounded with dread. Soon enough, a doctor emerged from an examination room, a small professional smile on his face —wide enough to ease the cousins at the moment. "It's nothing serious but just a simple case of pregnancy, Mr. Andy." He announced, relieving much of the anxiety that had gripped Andy.Well, his relieved anxiety only lasted few seconds as he rethinks the doctor's simple words. "What pregnancy...?" His eyes widened at the thought of his Cousin being pregnant. Why wou
It was barely an hour past noon and Alex was already preparing to leave his office, thereby closing for the day. He had Kiel cancel all of his schedule for that day, leaving most of his clients hanging —well for that day, he did not mind, his wife's happiness comes first as he already planned out the best surprise for her. He needed to prove to her and show her how much he loves her and was willing to do anything for her, believing she's also possessing the same mindset as his. Most definitely, she would since she's now his wife. With a dreamy smile on his face that doesn't seem like it would be fading away from his face anytime soon, he threw his blazer over his shoulders, humming some incoherent words understand his breath happily. As he wear his blazer, he couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to love and be loved in return. The warm sun that was reflecting and the gentle breeze in the air seemed to be a mirror of the warmth and joy he felt in his heart. Today was go
The atmosphere was good that evening as a lady sat comfortably with her legs crossed, watching her favourite. Her phone buzzed softly on the center table, diverting her attention away from the soap opera she was watching.Lisa picked up the phone hastily to check whatever message might have come in. She had thought it was her husband, Alex, who had messaged —probably to inform her he'll be staying out late that night as well.If it is, she wouldn't be surprise as it has turn a routine that he would never cease from; sometimes, she wondered why he still send her those kind of messages! But then it turn out she was wrong. Again, she received the same message from anonymous sender as before.“...The earlier you divorce Alex and leave him for me, the better for you, woman! You have no place in his life, you know where you belong instead...” The message reads. “This isn't a joke or an empty threat —divorce Alex if you know what's best for you!”Lisa felt a chill run down her spine as she r
Lisa stood in shock as she watched Rosy sit on Alex's laps with her head resting on his chest and Alex, on the other hand, seems to be enjoying stroking Rosy's hair as they both engaged in a compassionate conversation. They both did not notice her presence which fuel her anger the more!Lisa felt like she was going to be sick. She had thought she was prepared for whatever Rosy had to say, but seeing this was too much. She couldn't believe that Alex would betray her like this, that he would be so cruel. Even if he's always been a jerk who doesn't care about anything else except himself, isn't he supposed to respect the fact that he's married? No?As if what Lisa had saw few moment ago wasn't enough, Rosy kissed Alex's jaw lightly after a small and in return, he grabbed her face and kissed her on lips. They were so engrossed in their shameless activity, clearly not bothered by the thought of someone walking in on them. She wondered how much shameless they would go in a such a place like
She got married to him months ago and it wasn't the type to be proud of. Maybe anyone else would have been but not Lisa —a contract marriage where she has to get married because she felt like she was compelled to. Not that she couldn't decline the offer but she had to agree, given the fact that she needed to find the truth about her parents death.Almost two year ago, Alex was Lisa's private patient and she has done everything in her power to revive him after he got himself involved in a ghastly accident which almost cost him his life. Even though his life was saved, Alex did not feel as though he's alive since he's close to losing his most valuable assets —his hands.Alex learnt that he won't be able to use his hands for many months which break his heart more than any other news he has ever received. As a doctor, his hands are much more than gold to him since the fate of humans lives depends on it.Depressed, he secluded himself from everything around him, drowning in his own anxiety
Lisa got home later that night, still wallowing in her misery. Her heart might be heavy but she already made her decision —vacating the marriage for good and going back to her normal life again.Lisa has never felt so lost in her life before; the situation at hand was more overwhelming than she could imagine. She didn't get what she what in the end neither did she ever enjoy her marriage —not even for once!As she packed few of her belongings into her luggage, fresh tears stream down her face; she had thought she is strong enough to overcome anything but the truth is she isn't. Just when she was about the zip her luggage, her eyes caught glimpse of her wedding photo, hung on the wall.In the photo, she and Alex were both smiling, looking happy and content. But as she looked at the photo now, all she could see was the lie that it represented and realized how much she has used that lie to convince herself for long! She was at the verge of ripping the photo off the wall and throw it into
