“We have finally met.” Father said ,his voice thick.

“I'll take my breakfast in the bedroom.”

“Don't be silly,dear.” mother chirped in taking her seat. “We have been meaning to talk to you.”

“I know what this is about and I am not interested. “

She scoffs. “Nonsense! Of course you are interested.”

Father lifts his arm halfway calling on the butler.

He comes forward and handles me a clipboard.

“No thank you.”

Mother takes them from his hand. “I knew you'd do that.”

“Then why bother trying?”

“So I took the liberty to go through the list and find out the perfect woman for you.”

“Why?”

“Marriage and giving us an heir,I'm sure you understand.”

“What of my brother? He's got a family. Ask them to give you an heir.”

“Oh dear,” mother gasps. “You don't know.”

I frown.

“Your brother has gone through a terrible divorce. He cheated on the wife or something like that,she found out and refused to keep quiet about it. Now it's all over the media and the companies he is overseeing are falling just like his marriage.”

“He's on the jet as we are talking. You'll get to have a sibling bonding time when he arrives.” Funny how his voice never held any emotion.

“Dear,” I lift my eyes to look at mother. “Water alone is not considered breakfast.”

I grab my glass of water and leave them.

‘You have a date.’

I stop in my tracks.

“I'm not going.”

‘Oh but you have to. The girls’ family is one of the biggest investors. If you two get along together and we merge our companies or even the shares alone,we'd be far in the industry. “

I close my eyes,breath in and out then turn to face them. ‘Why does my personal life has to get intertwined with business?”

“Because you are a Cunninghum,darling.”

I sigh and walk away,going up against mother would lead to an exhausted morning.

My next step was stopped with father's voice freezing me in place as my name came out of his mouth.

“Sit down.”

After a stretched pause. “You don't get to walk out on your mother.”

i sip the water to keep my mouth shut.

“Your brother has once again proven he cannot take care of anything. I'm leaving our name in your hands.”

“Don't do it. Don't try to pin me and my brother against each other. We are not competing.”

“I'm not trying to pin you against each other.”

“Bullshit.”

“Be very very careful with how you speak to me and what you say. I'd advice you to pick your words wisely. “

I sip the water again.

“Now,you are going to go through with that date,humor the girl and get married. Clear?”

“Crystal.”

“Good.”

i sighed,for the fourth Time since our conversation begun.

Every word that came out of her mouth made me want to pull my ears out and throw them away.

The color she was wearing terribly clashed with her skin color and whoever applied her makeup clearly had Ill intention for her public image.

“I don't have a terrible sense in fashion and my make up got ruined so I had to touch it up quickly so I don't get late”

I don't care.

She smiles. “I noticed you looking at my clothes and your face Said all that was in your head.”

I look at her without saying anything.

All I wanted was was get away from this place. This date.

“Do you want to get married?”

She laughs. “A straightforward man,I see.”

“I don't see anything funny over there.”

She sips her drink. “Of course you dont. Yes,I want to get married.”

Hurrah to that.

“What's your ideal man?”

“Oh,you want to see if you're the one” She laughs once again. “Well rest assured,you are.”

She pauses. “I want a soft man,cute,”

The word cute almost made me vomit in my mouth.

That brings us into the end of the date.

“You are my perfect match and our family business would benefit from our marriage.”

“Is your company not doing well?”

“What? It is,actually but-”

“Then why do you need a marriage in the name of making it better?”

“Marriage will merge our companies. That would lead to a promising increase in profit rate,I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from. Where everyone is coming from.”

For some reason,I did not see where any of them were coming from.

“Look,I have zero interest in marriage. Especially when it comes to getting together with you.”

“Why? I'm not your type?”

I open my mouth to speak but he hold up a finger and goes ahead with whatever she was going to say.

“...It doesn't matter. The only reason I want to do this is because of my family. Now you are going to marry me whether you like it or not.”

She interrupted me.

I lean back and cross my arms.

“Sorry for cutting you off.”

My eyes remain glued to her face.

“I don't care what you do or don't do for your family. Just know that I won't be getting involved in any of it.”

“I would love to do that because being with such a man as you is a nightmare to me. And it's a shame that I actually like you.”

‘What?”

She scoffs. “But you never notice that,do you?”

“I've just met you,Amara,wouldn't it be creepy if I knew everything about you?”

“It'd be fucking amazing! You don't even know that we attended the same school,took the same classes,wow.” her voice was low and her eyes focused on the plate before her.

It's as if her mind was rewinding all her school memories,particularly the ones in which I had ignored her.

“That was unfortunate. “

She looked up to me,her eyes filled with hope. “But now you have a chance of changing that.”

“Sorry to disappoint but I have no interest in changing the past.”

“This time you will notice me Kian Alexandro.”

That there is the voice one uses to scare the crap out of you.

“You'll have to try really hard for that, Amara Wrights. “

She is still the same whinny and desperate girl I knew back then. And I plan on avoiding her as I had. After all,history does repeat itself.

I push my chair back.

I called my secretary.

“Tell Kathleen I'll meet her in my office.”
