/-Declan-/

Right after Raven left, my men began going through the tunnel. I couldn't shake off the feeling that Raven was tricking me again.

“Alpha?” Tim called after climbing in.

“Go ahead, I'll use the gate,” I told him and turned around to avoid further questions.

I sniffed the air and Rolfe picked up a faint scent of two guards. I snuck to the entrance and spotted them leaving with Raven.

A smile formed on my lips. Once again, her acting skills were quite impressive. I snuck through the gate and straightened up, taking another route immediately.

I intended to follow Raven, to find out what she was up to. I stopped when she cornered a blonde woman, whom I immediately recognized as Eric's wife.

My lips pressed in a frown. It couldn't seriously be what I was thinking, could it?

I was very intent on following her when my men summoned me through the mind link.

“Alpha, there has been a bit of a situation,” Tim said.

“What is it?” I asked.

“The opening leads to a dungeon and we ar

/-RAVEN-/I could smell my freedom just metres away. I had no idea where I was going but it didn't necessarily matter. After what happened in BloodFang, I needed a serious break to fully recover before striking back. This time, I was going to make sure he didn't have any more power over me. Eric was done already and if by chance he survived, I would finish him off when I returned for his father's head. Suddenly, I had a strange feeling that I was being followed. I didn't look back immediately because I was certain the person would hide. I slowly took out the pen-knife I sneaked along with me. However before I could make a move, I was grabbed instantly and pushed against a tree.I blinked rapidly as a familiar intoxicating scent overwhelmed me. My mind was everywhere and nowhere at once as I gazed into those beautiful silver eyes.I swallowed thickly, suddenly aware of his body pressing against mine. “Declan…” I breathed, but his gaze shifted behind me. “Were you following me?”“W

/-RAVEN-/I've never felt the need to be responsible for anyone until now.As I walked back to the healer's hut, I looked at the children, playing around on the streets, giggling and laughing without a care in the world and all this will be gone by dawn? Because of me? How? Why?I had so many questions. I wanted to go back there and probe her answers but I knew she wouldn't give me anything other than what she had just said.I walked into the hut and the healer had a strange expression on her face. One I couldn't read. “I'm guessing you didn't get any good news?” She said and I shook my head, crestfallen. “You know one thing about visions? They don't always show you everything. Only a crucial part of your actions determines whether the end will favour you or not. There's a reason it is hidden, you know,” she said with a smile, yet I couldn't bring myself to return it. “She said the village will go up in flames,” I told her. “We know that,” the healer shrugged, stunning me.“Why di

/-Raven-/We stood at a distance, watching the village go up in flames. My lips were slightly apart as I watched in shock. It was dawn already and the village was up in flames, just as she predicted, but it wasn't caused by the fire wielders or cloaked persons or whatever was chasing me. It was set ablaze by a man beside me. Maybe that was why she wanted me to leave as soon as I could. Because in the end, fate couldn't be changed. It would happen one way or the other. If Declan didn't do it, the cloaked men would have still done it. I looked at him, but he stood there, an emotionless expression on his face like he didn't slaughter an entire community and set their village ablaze. It made me realize just how powerful and dangerous he was. He could have killed me if he wanted but he tolerated me talking back at him and defying him.I wasn't innocent, but this… this was a massacre. No one was spared, not the women, not the children. He killed every living thing in it. It was suffocati

/-Raven-/“You're going to stain my sheets, Raven,” he stopped by the bedside. “You can change them in the morning,” I answered. “Join me in the bathroom,” he offered and my eyes flew open. “I beg your pardon?” “Don't act innocent now. You just spent a whole night and half a day with my naked self,” he shrugged. My cheeks flamed up. “Don't say things like that. People might think there is something between us,” I groaned. He climbed the bed, straddling me. “And there's not?” he smirked. I pushed him off me and jumped out of the bed. He laughed as I ran towards the door I assumed was the bathroom. There was an inbuilt pool, a tub and a shower cubicle. The whole place smelled so nice and I could feel the pool calling to me. I took over the soldier uniform and jumped in. It was so refreshing to swim freely in the water. Declan suddenly walked in and I submerged my body inside the water, leaving only my head out. “Do you not know the meaning of privacy? He stood in the middle of the room, his back turned to them, with the purple royal regalia covering a vast area of the floor. The two cloaked men fell on their knees, shivering as they pleaded for mercy. They knew their master would not forgive this incompetence.“You had one job…” His iciness in his tone made them shudder. “May I know why five of you left here yet two returned without her?”The two men exchanged glances, none willing to speak first. “Answer me!” He growled, turning to them with raging dark eyes. “We… we almost had her, Your Highness, but then we were suddenly attacked by this large grey wolf. He moved so fast that we couldn't even make a move at him. Three of our brothers were killed by him…”“You mean one wolf took down all five of you and left with the girl?” He demanded, his voice laced with disbelief. “Yes, Your Highness…”“Then you are all useless if a mere wolf could take you down. Do I have to do everything myself?” He growled. “Please have mercy on us, Y

/-Raven-/I couldn't sleep. My mind was haggling between Selene and Declan. While the doctors said she was in a very critical condition and would likely not survive it, Declan’s agonizing howls could be heard across halls and buildings. They said the injections needed time to kick in, but it was almost an hour, and I found myself flinching with every cry of pain. Othelia and Lisa were by Selene's side, which left me alone in the room. Unable to take it anymore, I found myself going toward the hall that led to Declan’s room. His painful howls turned to hysterical cackling at intervals as he threw threats. “I will kill all of you…” an unsettling chortling followed. “These chains won't hold me…”I stopped at his door, contemplating going in or not. A heavy silence fell suddenly like I was being given a chance to make a decision. “Make up your mind, princess…” his voice was calm, almost as though he was perfectly fine. It made my skin crawl like it was pricked with a hundred needle

/-Raven-/“I'll be heading back in now,” I got off the floor abruptly. He quickly stood. “Come on, Raven, don't tell me you're upset,” he said, and I shot him a look. “I know how you feel about him, I just need this small favour…”“We're not close enough to exchange favours, Tim,” I said plainly. If Declan hadn't been involved and he wasn't just a pawn in Lisa's sick games, I would have helped.“But we can be…” he insisted.“Tim…”“Let's be friends, Raven. Please?” He extended his hand. Friends? The word was almost strange to me. I have been a loner all my life, and I wouldn't even lie; it felt good. I could do whatever I wanted without stopping to consider anyone's feelings. Tim was going to complicate my life, plus the fact that I didn't plan to stay here for long. Something clicked in my head and I took his hand. “Fine!” I said. “But don't think you will be spared any brutality.” “I'm counting on that,” he chuckled. “I need to head back in and check on Selene, if they let me,

/-Declan-/All my life, the only thing I have ever truly known was pain. From my mother's hate and curse, to my father's betrayal, to my mate's rejection, to the stigma of killing my father to the tower and many others I would rather not remember.Yet none could compare to the pain of another rejection. She didn't know what she had done. She probably thought it was funny… but it wasn't. My heart rate sped up, and my heart clenched so tight it felt like I was suffocating, but I fought to keep it in. “Hmmm…” Raven stared curiously at my blank face. “Did I say the words wrong? You seem pretty comfortable.” With each passing second, it felt like multiple daggers were plunged into my heart. Rolfe growled in my head and I knew things were going to blow out of proportion in a couple of minutes. “Raven…” I could barely recognise my own voice. “Take it back…”“Why should I? Did I hurt your little Alpha pride?” She mocked. I moved away from her as I felt the shift in my body. Rolfe was f

If my presence was going to secure their victory then I would take pride in that and let go of my anger. For Declan. I don't know how long or how far I flew but i was at a distance I couldn't intervene quickly even if I wanted to. “Azaiah, what's your status?” I asked through the mind link. “She's down. So is half of our men. I hate to admit it but Declan is helping a lot. Are you coming in?” He asked.“Unfortunately, I can't. I need to take care of Amelia's soldiers but until then I can't come in,” I said. “But make sure she is dead. Take off her head, that is the best way to kill a witch and set her ablaze. We can't risk her suddenly resurrecting.” “That was the same thing Amelia said. Don't worry, Raven, do what you have to do, we have it all under control,” he assured me. Relief washed through me. This was definitely a good thing.

/-Raven-/On getting outside, I met Amelia. Unlike before, she had gotten here earlier than I expected.“Let's get this over with. I have more important things to deal with,” she said. “If the more important thing you're talking about is Diane, then I think we should take her down first instead of wasting our energy on each other,” I told her. “Why should I…” she cast me a condescending look. “...collaborate with you to do anything?” “Because you can't take her for me on your own,” I said plainly. “If we work together, we might actually have a chance to defeat her then we can face each other.” “Really? You must be bold to think that I would actually need help from you!” She huffed and I rolled my eyes. “I don't have time for your boost your little ego. When I'm done taking Diane, you can come fight me,” I said, shifting into dragon form. “Like I would wait for you to do that!” She muttered and leapt into the air, too. A smirk played on my lips. One down, one more person to go.

/-Raven-/I woke up with a splitting headache. My eyes fluttered open and I scanned the place. The ceiling design was very familiar. It was confusing. Wasn't I supposed to wake up at the battlefield?“It's good to see you awake, child,” I heard suddenly and turned. I flinched hard, shocked. This was the healer. The very woman that warned about going into a fight with Amelia. I took a look at my body and the flawless skin was gone. The scars were and I immediately flew out of bed and ran to the bathroom. My red hair. It was back. My eyes watered. It was really back. I've never felt so happy to be in my own skin in my entire life. I touched my face over and over again. “Oh goddess, it's really back,” I exclaimed. “I'm really back.” That meant my dragon was back as well, right? I clenched my fist and it went up in flames. Yesss!! Oh goddess, yes! The real Raven is back!My mind was flooding with too many thoughts at the same time. The battle. It was happening today, right?I need

/-Skylar-/I almost didn't recognise her by the time Kai let her out. Her body was covered in bruises, she was lean and pale and looked like she didn't have any blood left in her. “Where the hell do you think you're going?” Kai snapped at her and from the way she flinched, I was afraid she would crash and her bones would shatter. That was just how bad it was. “Apologise to her, right now!” Kai ordered. There was nothing like the beautiful arrogant Gwen now. She was hanging on a thread of life now, so definitely, she wouldn't want to jeopardize that. She even looked remoseful.“S..s… sorry…” she rasped. “Properly!” Kai hissed. If she hadn't been so bitchy towards me and tried to kill me, I might have asked Kai to spare her. “I… I'm sorry, Skylar…” she croaked, clapping her hands together in plea. The way her hands trembled like they were about to fall off made me instantly accept the apology. Kai ordered his men to take her away and approached me with a frown.“This is a very b

On Sally's refusal, Amelia headed to see Diane herself. She knew that this rescue mission was simply pointless for Taylor. Even if Diane let him go by some miracle, he would never be the same again. In clearer terms, he would be nothing but a vegetable. Amelia didn't care for any of that. She had spent the last few years harnessing asuch power as she could, yet coming face to face with Diane, it felt she had not even started. How the hell was she supposed to defeat her when they went back then? Her goal has always been one and the same. Kill Raven and protect Declan.Which is why she needed this test fight right now. She wanted to know if she could beat Diane and if there were any weaknesses.“It's foolish and reckless for you to come with the intention of fighting me, Amelia,” Diane's voice sang at the entrance. “You can't.”The confidence irked Amelia but she knew Diane was right. She couldn't beat her but she was going to look for openings and weaknesses and then in the real mat

/-Sally-/Just when I thought I could have an uneventful day, her call came in. Amelia. What could she possibly want from me now? I wasn't in the mood to grant favours. “Have you seen Taylor?” She asked as soon as I answered the phone. Taylor? Now that was unexpected. He was always the one looking for her but now, it was the other way to round?“What about him?” I asked.“Stop throwing back my questions and answer the damn question! It's been two days since he left home and he hadn't been back since then. His sisters are very worried about him,” she said. “Since when do you care about the brats?” I asked in surprise and I could almost fell her glaring at me through the phone. She knew I was telling the truth. There were only a few people she cared about and those children were not part of it. “Well I don't know where he is,” I told her. “Coudo you ask the mystic to help me find him?” She asked. .“At this point, you are just overreacting. /-Taylor-/I knew something was fishy when my men didn't get back to me. Then a few days later, their bodies turn up, found in the alley. It couldn't have been anyone else. They were spying on her and supposed to take her down. That was the last time I heard from them. It didn't make sense that she was able to kill them but somehow she did. I have been in and out of the station for questioning as I was the last contact either of them spoke to.It was annoying that my mother wouldn't even help. All she could offer me was that she told me so. To make it worse, my sisters affirmed that they had seen her with Kai at the park and she looked very healthy. Who exactly was this woman? Why did everything seem to be evolving around her? The more I asked these questions, the deeper I found myself falling into obsession. Like now… I was trying to find her on social media. I had only recently been informed of Ava's death and it didn't make sense that Skylar would kill her best friend, but ac

I was set to be discharged in the evening.Kai sat opposite me, silently, thinking of something I suspected that I already knew. I tried not to rush him but watching him was becoming painful and bothersome. I had to break the silence, no matter how much I wanted him to think. “Well, can you tell me what you're thinking now? It's about the children, right?” I finally spoke. “Who are we going to leave them with? They can't lose both parents, Raven,” he said. “They haven't. You can just let Gwen go,” I said and he looked at me like I just blasphemed.“What?” “You heard me, Declan. There is no need to hold her captive. I'm very certain that your boys have dealt with her enough. There is no need to make this more complicated than it should be,” I shrugged and he stood up, backing me instantly.“I can't believe you're making this suggestion. Let's take aside the fact that she tried to kill you. Gwendolyn is a horri

My eyes fluttered open and I had to blink repeatedly to keep the light off my eyes. “Raven!” Kai's voice followed and his cologne hit my nostrils as he sat beside me. My vision cleared and I realized his sons were also in the room. A hospital room to be exact. I could smell the drugs and antiseptic. What happened to me?Did that mean that Gwen was here? It was a little weird for her because the woman didn't even like me. She has no reason to be here. “How are you feeling baby?” He asked me.“I… why am I here?” I asked him. My mind was completely blank so I didn't remember anything.“You were poisoned,” he told me. My heart skipped a beat. But it seemed like that was the trigger word because everything came flooding back and so did my suspect.“Did you find how did it?” I asked and his ey
