Aren't cliff hangers so much fun!
Jaxson POV I was walking right behind Scarlet as we headed towards our office. That comment really didn’t settle well with me. I know business is business but damn if they are going to be calling the shots in my own pack. Maverick was on the other side of Scarlet and by the way he is walking and holding himself, he isn’t happy either. Scarlet on the other hand was cool and collected. She was born for this. I couldn’t have been more proud of how she handled those two little girls. I gotta say, when I heard the challenge I was instantly pissed. Ready to tear the head off of the girl that even muttered those words. I didn’t even want a Luna and now that I have one, she has my whole heart. To think I would let another woman in is ridiculous. Walking into the office, Maverick held the door for everyone and I went around to my desk and sat down, pulling Scarlet on my lap. Mainly to help me stay calm but it also felt right. I would watch other Alpha’s do this and even my own parents. Mav
Scarlet POV Turns out, the trial was scheduled for Monday. The email came out and stated it was an emergency trial and it didn’t say why. I could only imagine Jared and Michelle losing their minds. They haven’t officially become Alpha and Luna but they were acting as such. I haven’t spoken much with Maverick or Jaxson since Saturday night. I don’t know what to feel. I know I am strong enough to see Jared and the thought of Michelle under Jaxson just lights a fire in me. I haven’t been ignoring them, just haven’t been overly vocal with them either. We were standing in the councilman's lobby, waiting for court to start. Thankfully, they took Jared and Michelle to another area to wait. Looking around, I looked at how everything was built. What their flow was and how they maximized all their space. Some of it made sense and some of it was just awkward. Almost to the point that I wonder if this building wasn’t something else before it was built. The light white colors made everything a
Jaxson POV “Well, this should be interesting.” I muttered. Internally, I was freaking out over Michelle challenging Scarlet. “However, Scarlet is pregnant and a challenge cannot happen when she is pregnant.” “Actually, it can. The law doesn’t actually say that they have to be baby free in a challenge!” Michelle folded her arms over her chest in triumph. Looking at the councilmen, they all squirmed in their seats. “I’m sorry, Luna Scarlet, the challenge will stand.” Councilman Jeff looked pained as he said the words. “Jared, let’s go home and start training more.” Michelle said with an evil smirk on her face. “Actually, Michelle, I have other plans. I am not obligated to allow any training to happen. You will be moved to a location of my choosing and will start your new job as a maid in the cells. It will start immediately. Jared, your new job as gardener will start immediately as well. Neither of you are permitted in any packhouse unless invited by myself, Luna Scarlet or my be
Scarlet POV “Jaxson?” my voice cracked as I held back the tears that threatened to fall. Holding my hand out, I had a warm red liquid that ran down my fingers. I had just gotten to the bathroom when I felt a rush of fluid soak my panties. With my fingers, I felt the outside of my legging and came back with it. My body was trembling as my mind was processing what exactly this meant. The brain was saying miscarriage but my heart was screaming no. It felt like all the air left my body as I was unable to breathe. The redness on my fingertips went so much but yet nothing at all. It felt like thousands of knives stabbing deep in me so hard that I was just frozen in place. I wasn’t even able to look at Jaxson as I just stared at the blood, wishing it wasn’t there. I’m not even sure what happened next but what I was able to mental process was being in Jaxson’s arms and the wind in my hair. Was there screaming? Yelling? I don’t know, it was like I was in a dream and it all seems unreal. The
Jaxson POV “Which way did they go?” yelled Maverick. It would be like they vanished out of thin air. They hadn’t had a head start really so where the fuck did they go! “This way!” Maverick yelled as we went sprinting off toward the wooded area. We ran into the woods, following their scent. It was only like 15 feet into the woods that a new smell invaded my nasal passage. “ROGUES!” I yelled. “Attention! Rogues, north of the hospital, all warriors report!” I let out a mass link to my warriors in the pack to alert them. “Where are they? I smell them but I can’t see them!” Maverick was looking around, trying to find them. It wasn’t until we heard the screams behind us that they had already invaded the pack. “The hospital…” my heart crashed as it dawned on me what happened. He tricked us and led us away from the baby. We left Scarlet unprotected and now rogues were attacking. “Alpha! They are attacking the hospital. At least 200!” I got a mind-link from a warrior. “Headed there
Scarlet POV I have come up with a plan on how to make all this work. If my hunches are correct, I think I have figured all this out and now it is just time to get it all in motion. Jaxson was in own little world trying to figure out what was happening and didn’t even pay attention to where I was taking him. If I was correct, we need to tread very carefully and trust no one. Finally, we got to Jaxson’s house. It was filled with baby stuff that we haven’t put together yet but what he didn’t know is that I have been coming here when I was supposed to be working on the housing project sometimes. I needed a quiet space so that no one would bother me. I even designed a new jewelry line based off of this house, while I was here. “What are we doing here? Scarlet, we have too much work to do to be here!” Jaxson turned to leave. “NO!” I shouted and even stomped my foot. That seemed to amuse him so he stopped and folded his arms over his chest. “No?” he wasn’t mad but he wasn’t happy eith
Jaxson POV I felt like the shittiest person in the whole world. Sitting across from me is the man that I grew up with. The man that was there for me through everything in my whole life, my parent’s dying, fights I had, heartbreaks and all my tasks. I was sitting here questioning his loyalty to me. Would he really betray me like this? “Que-questions?” Courtney stammered. “Colt? Why is Colt here?” Mason was instantly on the defense. “I will explain everything after. I promise but please, just answer the questions and then I will explain and it will all make sense.” Scarlet pleaded with them. Her heart was hurting watching me put them through this. I didn’t feel any better about it. “I am sorry but I have to command you guys to be 100% sure about this before I can let her explain.” I let my aura out to elope Mason and Courtney, causing them to bare their necks painfully. “I command you to tell me the full truth and not omit anything out.” They both nodded and I pulled back and pu
Scarlet POV “Well, I mean it is just that. A theory. I have been thinking and after the rogue attack, I feel like I know what is fully going on. The bigger picture if you will. Let me get through the whole thing before you ask questions though.” She looked pointedly at them before continuing. “Jaxson hasn’t received a job from the council since we mated. The only job he did receive after we met, I went along and we mated and my house burnt down. Huge press. Since then, his priorities have changed and I believe that the council doesn’t see him as reliable or trustworthy not to do the jobs without question. Before, all they had to say was the person did this but never really provided proof. He was their puppet to eliminate people as needed. Since he isn’t a cowboy anymore, they needed someone new. The past few months that we have been together and not one job was offered to him but we know jobs have been offered to another person. We have talked about another assassin being out there. N
