I have missed Morgan. And I love the way the two recognize their differences and embrace them instead of there being a fight between dark and light magic like most stories. That's not to say it couldn't happen but I like this view of opposite magic better. I will post another chapter for you today seeing as I got home very late yesterday and didn't manage to get one up.
RHETT “The blood moon is in two days.” I give Travis a painful look and raise my sword, ready to spar again. “Don’t remind me,” I say, twisting to the side as he plunges his weapon towards me. I spin, knocking his back with my shoulder. “Rhett, it must be done.” Travis turns with a sweeping motion, his leg catching mine. I fall to the floor, dust licking the air from the heaviness of my body. “How are you okay with what I’m meant to do?” I stand back up dropping my guard because I don’t feel like sparring anymore. “Seriously, I can’t do it. There is no way I can stab you in the heart.” “I rather it be you than anyone else.” He tells me honestly, now dropping his sword to his side. “Well, that’s the catch. No one else can hold the dagger. So, if I don’t, no one will.” Well, no one but Travis, my thoughts take me back to the way he easily held the dagger, unlike Oliver. It sounds so good in my head. If I refused what was said to be my destiny, then there’s no way it could happen.
LENEVE The two young pups were taken from the room by an older female werebear, leaving the grownups to sit and talk. Platters of food were brought to the table along with juice and water. My surrounding company began to pile their plates high, mates making up plates for their females. In our Clan, it was every Lycan for themselves. I can’t remember once when my father fed my mother, never mind making up a plate for her. She would probably slap it out of his hand thinking it was poisoned if he did. “You need to eat,” Rhett whispers in my ear, grabbing my folded hands beneath the table. “I lost my appetite.” I lie. A low unhappy growl emanates from Rhett. I turn my head to look at him, only to see those green eyes staring at me intensely. The look sets off a tingling sensation throughout my body, remembering the way he looked at me last night as he made love to me. “Fine.” I concede when he doesn’t let up and reach for the tongues to grab some bacon. I thought it was going to be a
RHETT I spent the rest of the morning with Leneve and Angelica, watching as they played and laughed. So many new feelings were surfacing, and I hoped this would be a new normal I would be navigating in the near future. Two weeks ago, if someone had told me that I was Lycan, not half-wolf and there was a beast hidden inside me. I wouldn’t have believed them. If someone had told me I would meet a second chance mate, one I didn’t want, and one I would end up falling for more with each passing day; I would have laughed and told them to take a hike. Yet here I sat on the damp grass watching the two females who held my heart play chase. Leneve was genuine with her reactions; she wore her heart on her sleeve, and I’ve noticed she doesn’t hide her emotions well. So, the way her face lit up when Angelica smiled, made me smile. I caught myself as my lips curled up and my changing expression froze. I can’t remember the last time I smiled. The last time I enjoyed a moment in the day. Minus whe
RHETT My hand gently splays across Leneve’s naked body, coming to rest on the flat of her stomach. The tips of my fingers flex where a child, my child, grows inside her. By any nature’s law, it would be too soon to know if she was indeed pregnant. However, I had learned not to question Morgan’s knowledge over the years, so I knew it was true. Leneve would bear our child and this child would grow up with both of its parents. They would know love unconditionally and they would have a sister who I had no doubt would spoil their sibling. In the exact way, I looked after Ria, this child would have an elder sister who would do the same. “Untie me, Rhett.” “Not yet,” I mumble to Leneve, my thoughts still on the life we created. I had made good on my promise. Leneve was still bound to my bed, a beautiful mess lying in a puddle of her own mess. I had made her shake and shudder, her body convulsing with orgasm after orgasm until it was me who couldn’t stand to hear her beg. Until I gave in a
RHETT Like a black cloud tension hung in the air. MacTire palace grounds and its people were eerily and unusually quiet than normal. The atmosphere was thick with a forlorn vibe that passed from one shifter to another. It was no longer a secret what was going to happen once the moon rose tonight. Whispers could be heard, the warriors gossiped, and the palace keepers mumbled protests under their breath. No one was happy about the deed I was meant to perform tonight. Least of all me. I thought I could keep my mind off the pending events by ignoring them. It had worked up until now. “Damn, I bet you are the most hated shifter in MacTire right now,” Mason says with a mocking tone. I shoot him an annoyed glance as we make our way to the training grounds. I thought maybe some light sparing would keep my mind focused on something other than stabbing my best friend. “He probably is.” My smile is weak as Tawny struts across the field in our direction. “I mean shit, Travis is loved by every
RHETT I walk with Leneve, as slowly as we can, back downstairs and through to the back of the castle where a set of double doors leads to the gardens. My breath hitches, and my hands begin to shake when I see the gathering of all the major players including Travis who stands in the middle of the group with Mathias. I run one hand down my pants, wiping off the clamminess that gathers on my palm. I try to release Leneve's hand to wipe that one but her little fingers are wound tight around mine. I look down at the small Lycan witch who offers me a reassuring smile. She doesn’t need words, I can see in her eyes what she says. Telling me to do what feels right and that she is by my side no matter what. She stands with me, not behind or in front but by my side no matter what happens. It’s a comfort and reassurance that I didn’t know I needed. One that helped when I saw the watchful eyes of those who expected me to perform an act I was not keen on performing. “So how's this going to go
LENEVE Alpha Travis lay on the ground. Oliver was barking orders at Beta Mike to help him, Who didn’t care to be talked to by the once rogue, but came to the Alpha’s side anyway. Rhett stood in horror as he watched Mike conjure sparks of magic and attempt to restart the Alpha’s heart. In the midst of everything happening two figures appeared on the otherised of the hole between realms. Tawny cried out upon seeing the lost queen and king. Morgan and Hunji didn’t know where to look. The rest, including myself, stood with mouths gaping opening as the most beautiful creature crossed the barrier. I fell to my knees as recognition came over me. The deep green eyes of the mortal goddess looked upon me. The queen of shifters had returned. The male next to her stood tall and intimidating. A scar marred his face but it did not detract from the incredible blue of his eyes. The child in the queen's arms began to cry. Her sobs became louder and turned into screams. Her little hands covered her
RHETT Two days after the Blood Moon News of the return of King Kellen and Queen Lamia spread quickly. The realm rejoiced and for two nights MacTire celebrated along with other kingdoms and packs. The realm was renewed with the hope that we would be saved from the underworld god's wrath. I wish I could share the excitement. Maybe I would if I didn’t know any better. Reports said Andora burned day and night as the dark army swept through the country. Tobias had relayed that Aodh’s armies had reached the borders of Bhakhil and they were preparing to fight on the front lines any day now. Sources told us another platoon of soldiers had reached the shores of Batsia the night Lamia and Kellen returned. I was in the midst of preparing the INE to move out as soon as possible to try and cut off the army before they crossed through Lewe or Mir and reached the kingdoms they bordered. It was time for the Changelings to shine. I wasn’t sure if they were ready or not, though I don’t think any o
Thank you all for reading Dawn of the Hunters! As always Include a bonus chapter for the next book. If you could please leave me a review letting me and others know how much you have enjoyed the book I would greatly appreciate it. Below is the first chapter of: All Queens Kings - book 8 the final book in the series. Are you ready for it? To be honest, I'm not sure if I am. Chapter 1 – Through New Eyes LAMIA The night of the blood moon Seneca finally quieted down only when there was quiet. She slept peacefully in my arms as I stood at the window looking out over the rolling landscape of MacTire. I felt indifferent staring at the dark mountains lit only by the glow of the moon and the sparkle of the stars. A night sky I had dreamed of seeing once more. Now I was gazing upon it, it felt strange. Different and new. It wasn’t how I remembered it. It was more beautiful than I remembered. The soft clicking of boots coming down the hall reached my ears. I didn’t bother to turn wh
