RHETT
I trek from the Bordello house back to the motel. Passing the house, I grew up in. Another family lived there now, but the small house still looked the same - with worn outer walls that were once white, fading over time.
Much like my memories of a happy time that seem so far away now.
When I was eleven and Ria was only six, my father was attacked by a wild bear. His injuries were so severe that he bled out in the woods behind our house. There was no chance for him even if he could have called or crawled for help. Two years later our mother died. Her health had slowly declined, and her wolf began to fade until she left our mother for good.
We were told she died of a broken heart. I believe she just gave up. Gave up on life and gave up on us. From then on it was just Ria and I. I helped around the village, picking up odd jobs here and there while still trying to get some kind of education and raise my little sister.
Times were tough but we saw them through.
“Didn’t know if we would see you until morning.” I nod at Eli, a hunter I recruited two years ago for INE. He was fast and strong but young and a little too eager.
I take up a seat next to him on the wooden bench outside the motel. “Just needed to work off some energy,” I reply staring out into the night. The silence of the town was almost annoying.
“I would like to take some leave, Rhett. If that would be, okay?” Eli says leaning forward and bracing his head in his palms.
“You wanna go back home?” I ask warily.
“Yeah,” He sighs back. “My father isn't well.”
“Once we get back to MacTire, you have my permission to go see your family.” After a beat, I ask “You coming back?”
“I'm coming back.” He says with determination.
I picked Eli up two years ago in Avon Wilts. A mixed-race town on the border of Lewe and MacTire. It was one of the original cities under Queen Lamia's empire, known now for its pharmaceutical factories. Not that shifters really needed drugs but omegas, humans, and hybrids did. Infection and disease easily attack our bodies.
Though I couldn’t recall the last time I had been sick in the past five years.
That was something Queen Lamia put in place. One of her first ventures since building her empire. And one of her first bids was to include all races and take care of her subjects. Before Lamia, there was no readily available market for drugs for humans or hybrids. She saw to it that all people had access to needed medicines.
Of course, not all humans trusted her, and some stood against her reign no matter what she did. Nevertheless, she didn’t care what they thought of her, her mission was to include everyone. Every race. Spirit animal or not.
Then there were half-breeds like me. The ones who believed in her and her mission. The ones who had seen and been by her side to witness what she had and was accomplishing.
That was until she and Kellen fell through a hole into another dimension or realm.
“Does the council have another mission for us?” Eli asks, leaning back with me now.
I scoff. The council. What was left of it, that is, had the INE running all over the kingdoms chasing monsters and hideous creatures from the lands.
Aodh’s creatures had taken over and in the last three years had attempted to wipe out all wild animals including our livestock. Hitting us where it hurts the most.
Kingdoms were finding it hard to feed their people and anyone who didn’t belong or was outside of a kingdom was essentially screwed.
That’s where we came in.
When the high council fell to war, a few stepped up. Abner Brooks was still kicking it, but now Mike's father Michael Pike Sr., the former royal beta held a seat on the council. Along with Tristan ScarClaw and Marcus Langley, Lamia’s father.
It was King Mathias who essentially ran things if we wanted to get technical.
And it was the old Beta who originally approached me. Giving the Intermediate National Enforcers their missions. Tasked us with hunting down every dark beast that passed through those rips in our realm.
See, the animals within the shifter went crazy around the devil dogs and nightmare horses. That was what we called them. And the birds well they were just nasty evil things that we dubbed bleaks.
Us hybrids were immune to the pheromones they put out that would send a shifter's spirit animal crazy. Somehow higher-ranking shifters, those who were more than a shifter like Mike, Hunji, Mathias, Finn, and even Travis, along with others, were also immune to their loopy inducing pheromones to an extent.
This is why we have lost so many over the past years. Sending units out to face them had worked against us.
Taking into account what would happen to warriors and soldiers of all races, and seeing how unaffected us spiritless hybrids were – That’s when I was approached by the newly formed council to have the teams, I had built up over the years track and hunt the creatures down.
I shake my head at Eli to answer his question. “They haven't given us a mission yet, but you know there's always something to hunt down.”
Senko's beasts were another story, they may not drive a shifter insane to be around, but they were fast and strong. Coordinated too.
“For now, we’re to head back to MacTire,” I tell Eli. My voice lacked excitement. Even though I should be happy about going home and seeing my little Angelica.
I chew on the inside of my lip as I think about my daughter. I should be happy to see her. And I will be. But always a form of guilt that most of the time I can bury down will rise up. Guilt that I should be a better father, knowing that I’m not.
Excuses always fill my head. Like, I’m out here doing my job. Or she won't be safe until I’ve hunted every living dead creature out here and rid the realm of them. When in truth, she would be safer with me by her side. Not in the Kodiak Kingdom or at New Moon with Tala.
I stand ready to retire to my room for the evening. “Make sure we have enough gas to get home with,” I tell Eli, patting him on the shoulder and turning to walk away.
Gas had become scarce. Oil fields and rigs had begun to dry up. There was no one left to work them, and the bleaks had come and nested on the offshore rig and the fields burned day and night.
The realm was in a bad way and if things became worse or carried on in this fashion, we could see the end of us all if the scales didn’t magically tip in our favor soon.
Opening the door to my room, I let it slam shut behind me and saunter into the bathroom. Stripping off and turning the shower on. I glance towards the mirror and pause when I see my face.
Dark circles lined my eyes, my blond hair a mass mess and the scruff on my face had grown into a rough beard. Scars marred my body some deep and long. Others - small and scattered. I felt old and worn. I looked older than the twenty-eight years I was.
Like a shifter, my body healed on its own, but not at the same speed or as effectively. Memories of my battles were left behind to tell a story.
My hand lifts, my forefinger tracing the raised scar of the sword that sits over my heart. The only scar that matters. Or did matter.
There hasn’t been a day gone by that I haven't prayed to one god or another for Lamia and Kellen's return. Do I think their presence in this new realm would make a difference? Possibly.
Without Lamia, King Mathias has become darker, and colder. His search to bring her back in between fighting Aodh's dark army has taken over his priorities.
I can't say I blame the guy. We all want her back. Both of them. Except we, collectively, were starting to lose hope.
Their disappearance hasn’t only affected Mathias and Tala. But Mike, Hunji and Travis too. And everyone who has met them.
I turn away from the mirror and step underneath the mild warm water. Letting it wash away the day's grime as well as the scent of Suzie's sickly-sweet perfume.
Switching off the water, I grab a towel, wrapping it around my waist. Without drying off I let myself flop back onto the bed. I wasn’t tired but it seemed like the likely thing to do. So, I lay there staring up at the peeling ceiling trying to quiet my mind of all the thoughts that plagued me.
Suzie had been a distraction. A somewhat good distraction, however, I had nothing to avert my attention to now. Instead, memories came flooding back, crashing into my head like a tidal wave.
Around and around like a merry go round the thoughts swam about.
Three years ago, Tala had lost the most. Not just her mate but her sister too. She took Jonda’s suicide the hardest. Though we all know Jonda’s mind had been tampered with. Twisted with darkness that sent her insane.
The one thing that bothered me that I couldn’t let go of and neither could Mike, was why Jonda’s wolf hadn't surfaced when I bit her. The doctor had said they could find no trace of her spirit animal as if she never had one. If she didn’t have one, then the curse couldn’t have been broken. And that was the thing… Before Senko had plagued her mind with his shadows, she had had a spirit animal, one that was dormant and not fully connected to her. But there was one there.
I was startled from my thoughts when the town bell began to ring. Bringing me back to the night I met Lamia.
I flew up from the bed, dragged on my pants and shoes. No sooner had I done so there was a loud rapping on the door to my room. “Rhett, we got movement!” I heard Eli’s hurried voice on the other side.
Gone were my fleeting thoughts and my brain had switched gears.
I flung the door open to greet a wide-eyed Eli. “What we got?” I ask, turning my back and grabbing gear from the duffle bag that sat on the floor.
“A pack of nightmare horses,” Eli responds with a shudder in his voice.
I throw my quiver with arrows over my shoulder along with my bow. I grab the whip, and in incase these don’t do the trick, the swords that were gifted to me by Hunji.
Damon, New Moon’s genius omega, Alpha Xander, and Lyric had tried to replicate Senko’s static electrical weapons but unfortunately none, so far, have figured out to hold a charge or create the combined elements of silver and the charged electrical force that he used. Even using Mike and his newfound powers to charge them hadn't worked.
They worked. But only once and couldn’t be recharged. It was mind-boggling.
Finn had theorized that it was because they were a combination of Senko's blood magic and Shayna's Alchemy gift. And the smart arsed werebear was probably right.
“Let's go,” I order, pushing past him back into the night. My head turns every which way until I see Dana, another one of my INE officers.
She waves me on, “This way, they were spotted on the eastern side of town.” She yells beckoning me before she takes off in a run in that direction.
There was no way we could catch them on foot if they started running. I was fast but not as fast as the nightmare horses.
Instead, I turn back and jump on one of the dirt bikes we travel on. They are fast and easy to maneuver over all types of terrain and through forests. Plus, they are a lot more efficient on gas seeing as that commodity was becoming more scarce by the day.
I kick the bike into action and take off towards where the beasts had been spotted. Eli followed suit and I could hear the putt of the bike engine behind me.
I quickly caught up to Dana and slowed down, “Grab on!” I shouted, reaching for her arm.
Without missing a beat, Dana swings herself up behind me with ease. Once situated, I haul ass ready to hunt the fuckers down and send them back to hell.
“Slow down,” Dana says in my ear, a few minutes later, tapping my shoulder.
I bring the bike to a rolling halt, the small motor rumbling between my legs.
I sense the presence of evil and I narrow my eyes at the tree line. I feel the power of being the queen's knight come forward and know my eyes are shifting from green to black. The hidden beast inside me came forth to lend me its senses.
Through my gifted ears, I hear the shuffle of hooves. With my eyes, I see the dark shadows of the large beasts looming behind the trees.
One snorts as if sensing us, then comes the eerie glow of their red eyes. I count five pairs staring back at me. “They’re gonna charge and then scatter,” I say lowly to Dana. “Take the bike, I’ll try and sneak up on their flank.”
I step off the bike and Dana scoots up taking the handles. There's a good chance the beasts will notice what I’m doing as they are quite aware of our presence. But I have found over the years this is the best way to effectively take them down.
I was faster than any of my officers. My night vision was better, and my aim was true.
Dana nods at me and I motion to Eli I was on the move. He too nods with acknowledgement, knowing the play.
Either the nightmare horses were playing coy, or they genuinely didn’t notice me quickly run around and into the forest tree line. I peek from behind the tree I positioned myself at. Watching them watching my two officers. One, the largest and blackest whose eyes were a deeper red, snorted black smoke from their nose. His hoof pounded and scraped at the dry ground beneath him. The other four hovered, black manes swinging as they bobbed their heads. Their horns sparkled under the moonlight as if they had been dipped in black glitter.
If they weren't so evil and fed on flesh, they would make a beautiful creature.
Ancient texts once described them as magnificent white creatures that held magic beyond measure. They were the embodiment of purity until the gods of the underworld claimed them for themselves and enslaved the creatures. Turning them into something dark and sinister.
They had once been named unicorns. Creatures that roamed the lands of this realm freely. Hunted only by those who wished to use their magic for evil. Driven into the depths of darkness with fear, they were captured by Aodh and Anubis. Their very essence was ripped from them according to lore and became what they are now. Nightmare horses.
The largest reared up snorting and neighing, Kicking his front hooves up. The beast began to charge, and I took this as my opportunity.
The hunt was on.
RHETTThe large ghastly beast rears up letting out a grimacing snort and takes off in the direction of Dana as soon as its hoofs hit the ground. Charging her down.Dana revs the bike as the beast closes in on her. The other four take note and begin to turn in the same direction. I move quickly pulling two arrows from my quill and placing them against the bow. My thumb brushed over the small trigger button activating their electrifying modifications. As they gait, I poise. Ready to release my grip. I pulled the bow taught waiting for the perfect shot. Just as they move, I release the two arrows. They whizz through the air, a hushed whistling sound coming from them as seek out their targets. The arrows split as intended and hit their targets. Two of the beasts screech out as the arrows meet their flesh and light up upon contact, shocking the beasts and causing them to fall to the ground. The other two scatter in the direction of the first. As fast as I can run, leaning on the wolf stre
MATHIASI bit the inside of my cheek roughly and the metallic taste of my blood filled my mouth. I was trying not to lose my cool at my father-in-law as the triples climbed all over me. The boys were playing nicely but little Miss Amali was trying to take me down.On any other day, I would laugh at the thought of my tiny daughter trying to bring me to my knees. But that wasn’t the case today.Today my agitation was in full swing. I had just had to deny Bhakhil more troops as we were thin on the ground ourselves on this side of the realm. I understood the second continent was under more duress than us but New Moon and Riocht couldn’t keep sending our own warriors to aid them.Asiarian was doing what they could but even their forces were struggling. Hunji’s brother Rostam, king of Asiarian was fighting Aodh's army on a daily basis on all different fronts and lending aid to the other kingdoms on the second continent.I had been out there myself and fought against the dark army. In a bid
KELLEN“Seneca! Not so loud.” I growl at the tiny girl who dances in the barren field, humming a tune to herself. Not that there is anyone around to hear her. A tune I had never heard and not one that she had heard from Lamia. She stops twirling to look at me. Eyes made from sea glass peer up at me and she sweetly says, “Papa Kel, but the wind says to dance.”I frown and crouch down so I’m at her level, “There is no wind little one.”“The moons papa, they are the wind. They sing to me.” She points to the sky where the three moons are just starting to appear. Soon the haze of the day would vanish giving way to the dusky dark hue of purple.Just then her golden hair flutters, as if caught by an unseen and unfelt wind. Yet the air remains still. “It’s time to go in,” I tell her, standing and reaching my hand out for her to take.Instead of taking my hand, she leaps forward, grasping my leg, “Up papa Kel, up!”I lift her easily, holding her in my arms and her short legs grip onto my waist
RHETT Riocht’s palace came into view as we wound down the road that ran through the Morngord forest. A forest that no matter how many times I rode through still gave me the creeps. It was indeed haunted and with Morgan’s gifts, being able to raise the dead, having a haunted forest surround a palace made for good defenses. As far as I knew, and I had no idea why, Aodh’s hellish monsters would come nowhere near Morngord or Riocht. It was one of the last safe places in this realm. I pull the bike to a stop outside the main gates, Dana pulling up beside me. “Wow!” She gives a low-pitched whistle as she takes in the beauty of Riocht’s palace. Lamia and Mathias had built a new road, bypassing the Southern Lycans village. The guardians, as they had called themselves, had remained hidden for centuries. Tucked away from the cities and the technology that had survived the Lycan wars. Like the northern Lycans, they were now packs of peace. In truth, After the great war two and half centuries
RHETT Dinner was… pleasant. Strangely pleasant. The conversation was kept light, mostly all of us catching up on things we had missed. I sat back in my chair after demolishing the hearty spread that was laid before us feeling full and satisfied. It was the first decent meal I had had in a long time. Either everyone was saving talks for the meeting, or no one wanted to bring up the elephant in the room. I personally was highly curious to know what Morgan's visions had been and what she and Mathias had planned. It didn’t escape my attention that Alpha Travis was not present, nor had his name even been mentioned. It was oddly strange for him to not be a part of this… whatever this was. He had been friends with Lamia, Kellen, and Mike for years. Far longer than anyone else sitting at this table. With the exception of the parents of course. The only other person who was remotely close to Travis was Hunji who had remained silent and stoic as usual. His eyes never leaving his little witc
RHETT We wait for Morgan to provide us with an answer. Her pause is long and torturous. She looks between Marcus and Mathias then over at the old Beta who nods and Morgan sighs, “The gatekeeper. We haven’t figured out who the gatekeeper is though.” “Why do you look so fearful?” Finn scowls at his sister. “She’s not afraid,” Hunji grumbles. “She doesn’t like the role this gatekeeper plays in opening the veil between realms, is all.” Tristan steps up to the center table and grabs five worn scrolls. Abner helps him unroll them and they lay them out on the table for all to see. Except they are face down and the way they lay, you see a scripture on the back of the scrolls, barely visible. But it’s there. ‘Only in death can the gatekeeper walk between realms and open the way.’ There is a faint drawing of a tree and the words ‘the blood of the heart from he who walks between shall open the way.’ “What the fuck does this mean?” Tobias asks, slightly moving the pages. As he does, the writ
RHETT After Mathias had left the meeting everyone else mulled around for a few minutes. They went over the books and documents looking for a clue as to where said dagger might be or even the tree but no reference to either was found. After several hours of coming up with nothing and going over what Morgan had said, we disbanded. We all began filing out of the auditorium. It was late in the evening and the moon's glow peeked through the wide windows of the palace. I was crossing the courtyard to my room, noticing the warmth of the moon, and basked in it for a moment. Closing my eyes and remembering simple times. Even though Orion had tried to claim Riocht and had set the Crawlers upon us it seemed like much simpler times. Orion was strong and powerful, but he could be killed. Unlike Aodh. Mathias and Finn had faced him and failed. Maybe Lamia and Kellen were better off not being here. Maybe wherever they were was a better life. Maybe they had built themselves a new beginning. I dou
RHETT It’s not like me to be nervous. Yet timidly I take one step forward, then another. Until I am standing beside the bed the demigoddess lay upon. Ashe lifts her hand and reaches out for me. Compelled by an unknown force and feeling I take her hand. Warmth washes through me and a sense of clarity. My inner demons and fearful thoughts fade to nothing as I stand holding the hand of the closest thing, I have known to be a goddess. It was surreal, to say the least. Intimidating but with a profound emotion of feeling important. “The tree of life is where you will find the dagger of death.” She coughs and wheezes, trying to catch her breath. The last time I saw the demigoddess she was all-powerful looking, driving Aodh from the battlefield. Now she looked like a frail being whose life force was depleted. I felt pity for her. We thought she had abandoned us. Ran away without helping when she had been the one to create this mass mess in the first place. Or at least she had a hand in i
Thank you all for reading Dawn of the Hunters! As always Include a bonus chapter for the next book. If you could please leave me a review letting me and others know how much you have enjoyed the book I would greatly appreciate it. Below is the first chapter of: All Queens Kings - book 8 the final book in the series. Are you ready for it? To be honest, I'm not sure if I am. Chapter 1 – Through New Eyes LAMIA The night of the blood moon Seneca finally quieted down only when there was quiet. She slept peacefully in my arms as I stood at the window looking out over the rolling landscape of MacTire. I felt indifferent staring at the dark mountains lit only by the glow of the moon and the sparkle of the stars. A night sky I had dreamed of seeing once more. Now I was gazing upon it, it felt strange. Different and new. It wasn’t how I remembered it. It was more beautiful than I remembered. The soft clicking of boots coming down the hall reached my ears. I didn’t bother to turn wh
RHETT Two days after the Blood Moon News of the return of King Kellen and Queen Lamia spread quickly. The realm rejoiced and for two nights MacTire celebrated along with other kingdoms and packs. The realm was renewed with the hope that we would be saved from the underworld god's wrath. I wish I could share the excitement. Maybe I would if I didn’t know any better. Reports said Andora burned day and night as the dark army swept through the country. Tobias had relayed that Aodh’s armies had reached the borders of Bhakhil and they were preparing to fight on the front lines any day now. Sources told us another platoon of soldiers had reached the shores of Batsia the night Lamia and Kellen returned. I was in the midst of preparing the INE to move out as soon as possible to try and cut off the army before they crossed through Lewe or Mir and reached the kingdoms they bordered. It was time for the Changelings to shine. I wasn’t sure if they were ready or not, though I don’t think any o
LENEVE Alpha Travis lay on the ground. Oliver was barking orders at Beta Mike to help him, Who didn’t care to be talked to by the once rogue, but came to the Alpha’s side anyway. Rhett stood in horror as he watched Mike conjure sparks of magic and attempt to restart the Alpha’s heart. In the midst of everything happening two figures appeared on the otherised of the hole between realms. Tawny cried out upon seeing the lost queen and king. Morgan and Hunji didn’t know where to look. The rest, including myself, stood with mouths gaping opening as the most beautiful creature crossed the barrier. I fell to my knees as recognition came over me. The deep green eyes of the mortal goddess looked upon me. The queen of shifters had returned. The male next to her stood tall and intimidating. A scar marred his face but it did not detract from the incredible blue of his eyes. The child in the queen's arms began to cry. Her sobs became louder and turned into screams. Her little hands covered her
RHETT I walk with Leneve, as slowly as we can, back downstairs and through to the back of the castle where a set of double doors leads to the gardens. My breath hitches, and my hands begin to shake when I see the gathering of all the major players including Travis who stands in the middle of the group with Mathias. I run one hand down my pants, wiping off the clamminess that gathers on my palm. I try to release Leneve's hand to wipe that one but her little fingers are wound tight around mine. I look down at the small Lycan witch who offers me a reassuring smile. She doesn’t need words, I can see in her eyes what she says. Telling me to do what feels right and that she is by my side no matter what. She stands with me, not behind or in front but by my side no matter what happens. It’s a comfort and reassurance that I didn’t know I needed. One that helped when I saw the watchful eyes of those who expected me to perform an act I was not keen on performing. “So how's this going to go
RHETT Like a black cloud tension hung in the air. MacTire palace grounds and its people were eerily and unusually quiet than normal. The atmosphere was thick with a forlorn vibe that passed from one shifter to another. It was no longer a secret what was going to happen once the moon rose tonight. Whispers could be heard, the warriors gossiped, and the palace keepers mumbled protests under their breath. No one was happy about the deed I was meant to perform tonight. Least of all me. I thought I could keep my mind off the pending events by ignoring them. It had worked up until now. “Damn, I bet you are the most hated shifter in MacTire right now,” Mason says with a mocking tone. I shoot him an annoyed glance as we make our way to the training grounds. I thought maybe some light sparing would keep my mind focused on something other than stabbing my best friend. “He probably is.” My smile is weak as Tawny struts across the field in our direction. “I mean shit, Travis is loved by every
RHETT My hand gently splays across Leneve’s naked body, coming to rest on the flat of her stomach. The tips of my fingers flex where a child, my child, grows inside her. By any nature’s law, it would be too soon to know if she was indeed pregnant. However, I had learned not to question Morgan’s knowledge over the years, so I knew it was true. Leneve would bear our child and this child would grow up with both of its parents. They would know love unconditionally and they would have a sister who I had no doubt would spoil their sibling. In the exact way, I looked after Ria, this child would have an elder sister who would do the same. “Untie me, Rhett.” “Not yet,” I mumble to Leneve, my thoughts still on the life we created. I had made good on my promise. Leneve was still bound to my bed, a beautiful mess lying in a puddle of her own mess. I had made her shake and shudder, her body convulsing with orgasm after orgasm until it was me who couldn’t stand to hear her beg. Until I gave in a
RHETT I spent the rest of the morning with Leneve and Angelica, watching as they played and laughed. So many new feelings were surfacing, and I hoped this would be a new normal I would be navigating in the near future. Two weeks ago, if someone had told me that I was Lycan, not half-wolf and there was a beast hidden inside me. I wouldn’t have believed them. If someone had told me I would meet a second chance mate, one I didn’t want, and one I would end up falling for more with each passing day; I would have laughed and told them to take a hike. Yet here I sat on the damp grass watching the two females who held my heart play chase. Leneve was genuine with her reactions; she wore her heart on her sleeve, and I’ve noticed she doesn’t hide her emotions well. So, the way her face lit up when Angelica smiled, made me smile. I caught myself as my lips curled up and my changing expression froze. I can’t remember the last time I smiled. The last time I enjoyed a moment in the day. Minus whe
LENEVE The two young pups were taken from the room by an older female werebear, leaving the grownups to sit and talk. Platters of food were brought to the table along with juice and water. My surrounding company began to pile their plates high, mates making up plates for their females. In our Clan, it was every Lycan for themselves. I can’t remember once when my father fed my mother, never mind making up a plate for her. She would probably slap it out of his hand thinking it was poisoned if he did. “You need to eat,” Rhett whispers in my ear, grabbing my folded hands beneath the table. “I lost my appetite.” I lie. A low unhappy growl emanates from Rhett. I turn my head to look at him, only to see those green eyes staring at me intensely. The look sets off a tingling sensation throughout my body, remembering the way he looked at me last night as he made love to me. “Fine.” I concede when he doesn’t let up and reach for the tongues to grab some bacon. I thought it was going to be a
RHETT “The blood moon is in two days.” I give Travis a painful look and raise my sword, ready to spar again. “Don’t remind me,” I say, twisting to the side as he plunges his weapon towards me. I spin, knocking his back with my shoulder. “Rhett, it must be done.” Travis turns with a sweeping motion, his leg catching mine. I fall to the floor, dust licking the air from the heaviness of my body. “How are you okay with what I’m meant to do?” I stand back up dropping my guard because I don’t feel like sparring anymore. “Seriously, I can’t do it. There is no way I can stab you in the heart.” “I rather it be you than anyone else.” He tells me honestly, now dropping his sword to his side. “Well, that’s the catch. No one else can hold the dagger. So, if I don’t, no one will.” Well, no one but Travis, my thoughts take me back to the way he easily held the dagger, unlike Oliver. It sounds so good in my head. If I refused what was said to be my destiny, then there’s no way it could happen.
