Yasmeen's hands tightened on the steering wheel, her eyes wide as I recounted everything—France, the tension with Michael, the surprise appearance of Damon at the meeting, and finally, the icy silence from Michael during the flight and Lana’s smug taunts at the airport.

When I finished, she let out a dramatic gasp, her jaw dropping. “Arya! Are you serious right now? This is straight out of a telenovela! Michael, Damon, and now Lana? Girl, how do you even breathe in all this chaos?”

I groaned, covering my face with my hands. “I don’t know, Yas. I feel like I’m suffocating. Nothing about this makes sense anymore. Michael is furious, Damon is… well, Damon, and Lana—ugh, don’t even get me started on her.”

Yasmeen shook her head, disbelief written all over her face. “Okay, first of all, Michael has no right to be mad. He’s got Lana glued to his side like some annoying sticker he can’t peel off. And Damon? Well, you know what he’s like—hot, infuriating, and impossible to figure out.”

Before I knew it, it was time for the gala. Yas was helping me get dressed. Yasmeen was a whirlwind of energy, running around my room as I stood in front of the mirror, trying to calm my nerves. She was tugging at the straps of my dress, adjusting the fabric, and muttering about my hair while I stared at myself, unsure of what I was seeing.“Girl, you’re going to knock them dead tonight,” she said with a grin, stepping back to survey her handiwork. She had me in a deep red, floor-length gown that clung to my curves and accentuated every inch of my body. My hair was swept into soft waves, and my makeup was flawless, as always, though I felt a little exposed. As Yasmeen handed me my clutch, I took one last look in the mirror, adjusting the strap of my dress and trying to steady my breathing. I felt like I was about to step onto a stage, but I pushed the nerves aside. Tonight was about me.“Are you sure you’re ready for this?” Yasmeen asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she ga

“I want to show you something, okay?” Damon’s voice was soft but insistent as he took my hand, his touch warm and firm. Without waiting for my reply, he began leading me away from the crowded ballroom, weaving us through the throng of people and up a secluded staircase. My heart raced, unsure of what he was planning. We stepped out onto a private balcony, the cool night air brushing against my skin. The view was breathtaking. The moon hung high in the sky, casting its silvery glow over the city below. The faint hum of the gala was distant now, leaving us in an intimate, quiet space. Damon turned to me, his gaze intense, his dark eyes filled with something I couldn’t quite place.“You’re stunning,” he murmured, his voice low and reverent, as though the words were meant only for the night to hear. “Damon...” I started, but the way he was looking at me made my words falter. It wasn’t just desire—it was admiration, adoration even, and it left me feeling exposed in a way I hadn’t expected

Damon excused himself, offering a quick kiss on my temple before disappearing into the crowd to mingle with the guests. Left on my own, I decided to make my way to the bar for a drink. The buzz of conversation surrounded me, but I felt oddly disconnected from it all.I reached for a glass of champagne, the coolness of the stem grounding me, when I felt someone’s presence nearby. Turning slightly, my breath hitched—it was Michael. He was standing just a few feet away, alone, nursing a whiskey. Our eyes met, and for a moment, neither of us said anything. His expression was unreadable, though the tension between us was undeniable. I hesitated, debating whether to say something or walk away, but Michael beat me to it.“Arya,” he said, his tone flat, but there was an edge of something deeper beneath it—hurt, anger, or maybe regret.“Michael,” I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. “Enjoying the gala?”He let out a humorless laugh, taking a sip of his drink. “As much as one can, I suppo

A few weeks had passed since everything happened, and I was thankful that I had space and time to think. I texted Damon if I could come over, and he agreed. I made up my mind on what I wanted to do. I was going to tell Damon how I felt about him. I was in love with him. I knew our relationship was supposed to be fake but I fell in love with him. When I arrived at his place, he was sitting on the bed texting on his phone."Hey cutie." He winked as I sat down. "There is something I have to talk to you about." I said and he grew serious."What's going on?" He asked."Well I don't know how to say this so I will just come out about it." I took a deep breath. "I am in love with you."Damon’s playful smirk faded, his expression shifting into something unreadable. He set his phone down on the nightstand, leaning back slightly as he looked at me, his brows furrowing. For a moment, there was silence, and I wished the ground would swallow me whole.“You’re... in love with me?” he repeated, h

I sat at the bar, the glass of whiskey in my hand almost empty as I swirled the amber liquid. The low hum of conversations around me blended with the soft jazz playing in the background, but none of it registered. I was too lost in my own thoughts. I took another sip, the burn of the alcohol doing little to numb the ache in my chest. Damon. His name echoed in my mind like a haunting refrain, each memory of him a reminder of how foolish I had been to let myself fall. I signaled the bartender for another drink, my fingers drumming anxiously on the polished wood of the bar. I just wanted to forget. To drown the heartbreak, the rejection, and the painful reminder that I had been nothing more than a distraction to him. As the bartender slid a fresh drink in front of me, I downed it quicker than I should have, ignoring the fire it ignited in my throat. The alcohol was supposed to dull the pain, but it only seemed to sharpen it, each sip dragging me further into the spiral of emotions I w

But my mind flashed back to the elevator, to Damon’s kiss, and my chest tightened with guilt and confusion."I..." I started, then shook my head. "It’s nothing, really." I pulled my hand away, gripping the edge of the table as if it could anchor me. I practically ran out of the elevator the second the doors opened, putting as much distance between me and Damon as possible. My heart was still racing, my lips still tingling from his kiss. The question replayed in my mind over and over as I forced myself to focus on the client meeting.I managed to get through it, delivering the pitch and discussing terms like nothing had happened, but I was on autopilot the entire time. The second it was over, I grabbed my things and headed home, needing to talk to someone—someone who wouldn’t judge me but would help me sort through this emotional chaos.Yasmeen was already lounging on the couch when I got home, a bowl of popcorn in her lap and a reality show playing on TV. She took one look at me and immediately knew something was up.“Oh no,” she said, setting the bowl aside. “What happened?”I dropped my bag and collapsed onto the couch beside her, burying my face in my hands. “You’re not going to believe this.”“Try me,

Well, I won’t. The day started off as ordinary as any other.I adjusted my blazer and smoothed down my skirt as I entered the sleek, glass-walled building just a few blocks from Michael’s company. The client meeting was supposed to be quick—discuss the details, finalize a proposal, and be out in no time. But life had a twisted sense of humor. As I stepped into the lobby, the soft hum of classical music playing through the speakers did little to calm my nerves. I pressed the button for the elevator, checking my phone for any last-minute updates from the client. Nothing. Good. One less thing to stress about. The elevator doors slid open with a soft ding, and I stepped inside, pressing the button for the 18th floor. Michael and I found a moment of quiet in the chaos of our work. We sneaked away, away from the prying eyes and the pressures of our professional lives, finding a secluded spot where we could finally be ourselves. The tension between us had been building for so long, and now, away from everything, we finally had a chance to breathe. His hand brushed against mine as we stepped into the empty office, the door clicking shut behind us. It was only then that I allowed myself to fully look at him, my pulse racing at the sight of his focused expression, and the way his lips curved into a smile when our eyes met. “You’ve been on my mind all day,” he admitted, his voice low as he stepped closer. I could feel the heat radiating from him, his presence overwhelming and magnetic. “Yeah? I’ve been thinking about you too,” I whispered, before I leaned in to kiss him.
