I stared at the photo of my mother and then looked at Lucas. I couldn’t stop thinking about that dream that I had of her as well. But then I shook it off. “This is crazy. It had to be someone that looked just like her.” I said. “She has the same eyes as you. Just not as bright.” He said. “Maybe it was a relative of hers or something. It’s possible. I know that she wasn’t born in this pack and I’ve never met anyone from her side of the family. I had to be someone else that was a close relative. Maybe she’s got a sister or something.” I said. “You’ve never met them?” He asked. “No. Dad never mentioned them and I guess I was just never interested. This was my home and I never thought about it.” I said. We were in the office working until late before I finally went up to my room to have a shower and I got some fresh clothes on. And it was really good to have a shower as well. I then sat next to the window for a minute looking up at the sky, starting to wonder what sort of fam
I called Arlo to the packhouse immediately and he found me in the office. “What’s going on?” He asked. “I have a private informant. Dad didn’t even know about this one. I’ve just been told that we’re going to be attacked tonight. Two hours after sunset by some pretty heavy hitters.” I said. “Vanessa?” He asked. “No. She was just here to taunt us. These ones are here to hurt us.” I said. “Alright. We have to get the warriors prepared. Do we know which direction they’re coming in?” He asked. “No. Which means all patrols have to be on alert tonight and mind link the rest of us the second they see them coming. Or hear them.” I said. “I’ll call an emergency meeting for all of the warriors. In the meeting hall.” Arlo said. “Alright. Let me know when they are all there. Don’t start without me.” I said. “No worries.” He said, leaving the office. I kept working on a few different things in the office when I got the call that all the warriors were in the meeting hall. I wen
The vampires attacked in unison and they were definitely well trained for this. Something else I had never seen or heard of before. But we were just as well trained. If not, better. Because we train for this our whole lives. We all collided with a thunderous crash, with me right in the middle of the fighting and I grabbed one vampire that was attacking another wolf and I gripped it around the neck and shook my head vigorously until its head detached from its body and then threw it away in the distance. I felt something sharp stick into my back that I let out a roar, but before I could get the vampire off of me another warrior had already grabbed it and killed it. I could tell right then that they were all watching out for me, as well as themselves. But also each other. Just like they had been trained. They were a pack. And no matter who hated each other inside the pack, when we are faced by an enemy like this, we are one. We work as one. The vampires were getting through us,
It was a long and painful night trying to contact my uncles, but there was no answer. Not until just after dawn the following morning when I was alerted by some people approaching the pack. I ran through the woods to the border, where the main road into the pack was and I saw Uncle Ethan with a lot of people following him. I ran over the border until I reached them and I hugged Ethan as soon as I saw them. “I’ve been trying to call you all night.” I said. “We had to get out of there. They attacked out of nowhere.” He said. “I know they did. They used a diversion to keep me from helping.” I said. “What? They attacked here too?” He asked. “Yeah. But we were ready. We only lost 13.” I said. “We had no warning. We didn’t know. I’ve only got 310 people left out of my pack. That’s all I could get out.” He said. “It was a slaughter.” I said. “Yeah. They were organized.” He said. “I noticed that last night too. PLease, bring your people inside where it’s safe.” I said.
By the following morning the news of their destroyed packs had hit the news. The humans thought that they were other human towns, not knowing that they were wolf packs. Saying that again, they were all wiped out. And I saw that the packs had been left to rubble. The packhouses had been burnt to the grounds, houses and businesses were completely destroyed. They vampires really did go on a rampage. I was in my office watching the news when I couldn’t watch it anymore. I was doing more work on the computer and one of the omega’s finally bought me a book that contained the information of all the refugees that I was going to input into the computer. So I could keep track of them. Charles and his family had been keeping to themselves since he saw that my pack wasn’t going to accept him as their Alpha. He was like a child sulking because he didn’t get his own way. But I was fine with that. I was glad that I didn’t have to see him that much because he pissed me off at the best of times.
That night after I had a shower and got dressed, I headed down to the dining room where the Alpha’s, their Luna’s and their children were waiting. “What are you wearing?” Charles asked as I sat at the head of the table. “A shirt and shorts.” I said, like he was stupid for asking. “Why are you so casual at the dinner table?” He asked. “It must be because of all the immaturity running through my body.” I scoffed at him. “It’s fucking dinner. Who cares? As soon as I eat then I am going to bed to try and get some sleep.” I said. “Don’t talk to me like that. Especially not in front of my children. I don’t want your influence rubbing off on them.” He snapped at me. “They’re your children Charles. They’re already fucked.” I said. And Ethan had to stifle his laugh with a cough. “And there you go. Showing your immaturity again.” Charles said. “And all you’re doing is showing your lack of respect. This is my pack. My rules. My army. Which they have already proved to him when they k
I can’t believe that I went against everything that I had always told myself. I didn’t want a mate. I refused to have a mate. I was going to reject him but I still let him hang around to strengthen the pull between us. I actually told myself that I was going to wait and see where this went. And look at where it went. Look at where it took me. I am the one sitting here hurt, because I betrayed myself. I betrayed my feelings and my thoughts and I didn’t let myself stay true to who I was. I was such an idiot. I was more determined than ever to reject him as soon as I turned 18. Which was fast approaching. Infidelity is really rare in werewolf communities because of the mate bond. But we weren’t bonded yet. Which is what had me confused. He felt the bond, I didn’t. If anyone was going to cheat then it would have been me, not him. And I couldn’t even do that knowing how much it would hurt him. Fuck him and his mate bond. I looked back at the computer and I started getting back into
I was confused as hell as to why the Joint Chief of Staff was calling me, but then it started making sense after seeing that drone flying over the pack. “Have you been watching us? Using your drones?” I asked. “Yes. That was us.” He said. “Why?” I asked. “I just told you. I believe that we can help each other.” He said. “I really doubt that.” I said. “I have the entire military at my disposal.” He said. “And I have a lot more than you do. Knowledge of what we’re dealing with.” I said. “You mean the vampires? And I know that you are a pack of werewolves. Training and creating your own army to stop the vampires.” He said. “Why doesn’t that surprise me?” I asked. “I don’t know. Probably because we are the American Government. We’ve known about vampires for years and we’ve let them go. Only because they were killing to survive. But now they are killing without mercy and drawing attention to themselves. They’re coming out from the shadows.” He said. “Yeah. And what do
Whatever was left of the army once Lacy was dead, were taken care of pretty easily afterwards. Once she was dead and they had no one organizing them or helping them attack certain places, then they didn’t know what to do. And they were done for. So we were able to return to the pack with our heads held high. We only had two casualties, and in war, that’s not a bad number. But it is bad in our books. We didn’t want to lose any. 5 YEARS LATER We had finally connected the two packs on new land that we had bought and built on. There was plenty of room for everyone. It was a lot more spread out and there was definitely a lot more people in the pack now. But it was perfect. Lucas and I were both still known as Alpha and his pack finally accepted me as being an Alpha instead of being an outsider. I guess saving us from this war probably helped, and the fact that I killed my own mother instead of changing sides really did things for my credibility. I was walking around the new pack
Lacy stood there completely unfazed by the wolves that were surrounding her, and she didn’t take her eyes off of me. “Stand down.” I ordered my warriors. They all looked at me strangely, but they knew that I meant it. They all walked behind me, so it was Lacy and myself that were facing each other and no one else was in the way to get hurt here. “I always knew that you were going to grow up to be something special.” Lacy said. “How the fuck would you know? You left me.” I said. “I was killed by a vampire.” She said. “No. You chose to leave with that vampire. You wanted to be one of them.” I said. “How could you possibly know that?” She asked. “Because you took me with you once to go and meet that son of a bitch.” I said. “You were too young to remember that.” She said. “Apparently not. I remember. I remember everything. You chose to leave me because you didn’t want him turning me into a vampire until I was ready to make up my own mind.” I said. “Damn. You really d
It took us all day to get to where we were going and we couldn’t risk being seen that night, so we stayed at the next town over. But we left before the sun had even risen the next morning. We got to the house where the vampires were held up and we made sure that we were back far enough, just in case they could sense us inside. We needed to stay back for a long time, to give them a chance to go to sleep. And the problem was that they had chosen a spot that was sort of out of town, but neighbors were still pretty close. “That’s pretty clever of them. They think we won’t attack with neighbors.” I said. “What are we going to do about the civilians?” Tucker asked. “If they’ve got any brains then they would already be gone. There’s no way they could possibly not know that there are vampires next door.” I said. “Look at that house over there. People are inside.” Dean said. So I looked over and he was right. There were people inside. “Tucker. I need you to evacuate the neighborhood. The
Aria, Jason and I all got up from the table and followed them outside. Lucas had thrown David down the stairs and he was standing over him on the lawn out the front of the packhouse, giving him one hell of a beating. “The only reason you are my Beta is because you were born into the role. I could very easily give it to someone else but I believed that you deserved a fucking chance. I don’t believe that anymore. I believe that you need to prove to me that you deserve to be Beta, otherwise you won’t be anymore. I can think of several good men that I can put in your position. So don’t think you are irreplaceable, because you’re not. Now get the fuck out of my face.” Lucas yelled, letting go of David’s shirt. David scurried to his feet and he left the packhouse and Lucas turned around to see the rest of us standing on the veranda. “You shouldn’t have done that. I can take care of myself.” I said. “I know you can. But I’ve been getting sick of his attitude for a while.” Lucas said.
I spent the rest of the day putting together the appropriate teams to go after each nest. After looking at what David did, I could see that he had just thown teams together. And that was going to get them all killed. We needed a leader, a second in command and strong warriors to fight these battles. But some of the people that he had in these teams were definitely going to get themselves killed. I wasn’t sending them at all. They could stay back with the larger group of warriors and protect the pack. They had a better chance of survival that way. I made it very clear that this wasn’t a suicide mission and I wasn’t sending people off to their deaths by going after these nests. The objective was to kill the vampires and come home. That was it. I was starting to wonder how the hell he got the position of Beta in the first place. He definitely didn’t show me why he should be Beta. Except for his loyalty towards Lucas. But a Beta needs to have more than loyalty. They need to know ho
Jason was brought to the packhouse and we explained the situation to him and he was more than willing to try for a leadership role in this new mission that we were planning. Lucas and I took him down to the training field and there were a group of warriors already waiting there. We gave them a task to do and we needed to see if Jason could get them out of it with leadership skills. They took off to the woods where a whole scene was set up and where they would be attacked by other wolves waiting for them, ready to attack. They needed to follow the path, ward off the attacks and come up with new and inventive ways of doing it. This was Jason’s big test and we stayed back at the training field waiting for them. I laid down on the ground, knowing that it was going to take a while for them to complete while I was staring up at the sky. “What are you thinking about?” Lucas asked, sitting next to me. “Honestly. I am trying not to think about a damn thing.” I said. “Bullshit. I
We were woken the next morning by someone banging on the bedroom window, so Lucas got up and made sure the covers were completely covering me, He put on a pair of shorts and opened the curtain and the window to see Beta David standing there. “I’m sorry Alpha. I’ve been trying to mind link you all morning.” David said. “Yeah. I was ignoring you for a reason.” Lucas said. “Please? I called you with a list of vampire nests last night. It’s already 9am.” David said. “Shit. I didn’t realize it was that late. We’ll get ready and meet you at the packhouse. Can you tell the cook to make sure that they have breakfast ready for the both of us?” Lucas asked. “Sure.” David said. Lucas and I went to have a shower and we got dressed and headed to the packhouse straight away. Breakfast was already waiting for us and we sat in the conference room eating while we were trying to formulate a plan. “We need to make it a single attack. All of these nests need to be attacked at the same time
I know that Lucas was hesitant about what I had just said, but it was the only way to stop this war. We needed to cut it off at the top and hopefully, the rest will disband. But if they don’t, it won’t be hard to find them when they have no leader telling them what to do. They will get sloppy. They will get reckless, and that will definitely work in our favor. But the problem was trying to find where Lacy was hiding. She could be anywhere, especially after we just took out the warehouse. I finally grabbed the notebook that Lucas had been writing in and I looked at all of the different locations that we had been given by packs who couldn’t handle these vampire nests on their own. “We need to divide and conquer. I’m gonna need some warriors from my pack to meet us here so we can get all of this done.” I said. “How about we don’t think about this right now. We can work out a game plan tomorrow.” He said, taking the notebook off of me. So I poured myself another drink. “Haven’t you
We got back to the pack and the omega already had dinner waiting. But no one was allowed to eat now that Lucas was back in the pack. They had to wait for him. So we were shown to the dining room and I was surprised that there were several tables set up in the dining room, all of them filled with people and one long table at the top of the room where Lucas sat and I sat next to him. His Beta David was next to the Alpha and his mate Lily was beside him. My Beta Aria was beside me and Leah was beside her. Lucas liked to let everyone know how the pack worked and who was in charge around here. He seemed to run a pretty tight ship. No one started eating until he arrived, no one started doing anything until he arrived and told them that they could. Lucas was talking to David a lot and I was trying to stomach my food after figuring out that my mother was the leader of all leaders who started this war in the first place. But Lucas and I agreed not to tell anyone until we were absolutely
