Katherine's eyelashes fluttered as she awoke to the soft morning light filtering through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room.

As she blinked herself awake, her eyes darted to the spot where Alexander should have been sleeping, but she was confused to see the empty space.

She had seen him asleep the previous morning when she left the house, he had been fast asleep and she was careful not to wake him up as she slipped out of the room, but today was different.

Reaching out a hand, she tentatively touched the space where Alexander usually lay. The sheets were cool, devoid of his warmth.

A shiver ran down her spine as a sense of unease settled in the pit of her stomach. Did he not sleep here at all? She blinked in confusion and sat up, her thoughts racing as she tried to understand what was happening.

Swinging her legs over the side of the bed, she stood and cast a quick glance around the room, hoping to catch sight of Alexander, but the room remained still, and he was nowh
