A knock came at the door of Lucas’s office, he slightly tilted his head upward and inhaled deeply before resting his back against his chair.
“Come in,” he said, raising his voice a little. The door creaked open and a woman in her 30’s entered. Lucas judged her from her looks, which was unnecessarily a bit exaggerated. She was wearing an elegant dress with big puffy sleeves, a knee-high boots and a red fedora hat with a wide brim over her head. She walked to his table in such graceful manner, her little hand bag swinging by the air on her hand.
Lucas can feel his frustration creeping up, certain that this kind of client was the least one he’d like to have for today. The woman sat in such elegant and slow manner on the chair, she put her bag on Lucas’s table and took off her fedora hat, resting it on her lap. Lucas noticed she also have excessive gothic make-up that did not quite matched on her bright pink dre
Lucas followed the priest, his every step mimicking every beat of his heart as they went outside Domus Malum. The priest ran to the gates where the nuns were gathered in a circle, their faces worried and in horror. Sister Bella was the first to see the priest and Lucas approaching them, she stood up and wiped her tears.“Father!” she called. She then saw Lucas behind him, his face distressed. When the nuns parted their circle, Lucas saw Selene lying on the stone ground, unconscious, blood gushing from every wound, almost pale as a corpse. Lucas bent down on her, his hands trembling as he contemplated where to touch Selene. Finally, he reached for her pulse on her neck, holding his breath and his eyes shaking.“She still has a pulse!” he yelled. The nuns gasped and sighed in relief. Lucas can feel his heart jumping in both joy and anger. He lifted Selene fr
Death is, and the only one, inevitable part of a human cycle. Humans’ ways of living often depend on their choices—a calculated or a rash decision, choosing to be alone or to build a family, chasing for their dreams or to just rely on some miracle to happen, accept the reality and move on, or to make themselves get trapped in their own bubble floating in a void with no sense of direction. These choices take a huge part of their fate’s direction, their choices steer the wheel of their life despite having no idea where the road ends. But everythingcomes down to one—death. Still, even until there, they differ as well with how, when, and why shall it happen but nevertheless, it comes. And that is the only moment that they do not get to choose if to feel pain or numbness, with farewells or an abrupt stop, to see the sky or see a white ceiling. No matter how unfair, or no matter how much you still want to live, dea
Two days. Two days have passed, and Selene was still lying on her hospital bed, unconscious. Faye and Calix have been able to fit themselves in her small private room, taking turns on the couch to sleep. Faye had been planning all the while she was beside Selene to go and find Lucas to beg for him to save her, and today was her chance. She told Calix that she’d be the one to stay up all night, so she could go home to bring more things from the house during the day, Calix had agreed with her plan, unaware that she’ll be taking a different route.“Call me if there’s anything happens, okay?” she told Calix, who once again sat on the chair beside the sleeping Selene.“Don’t worry, I’ll be here,” he answered, half smiling.Faye threw one last glance on Selene. She looked worse than she looked the day she had been brought here, her under eyes were swollen and
Calix stared down at Selene, who was carefully being transferred by the nurses to her wheelchair. She wobbled out of the bed and winced when she finally sat. Calix turned his gaze away, refusing to watch how Selene struggles with her condition.“You ready?” the doctor asked. Selene nodded with a smile. The doctor looked at Calix and nodded. “Take good care of her and bring her back here as soon as possible, okay?”“I understand, thank you,” he answered. Calix went behind Selene and started pushing her out of the room.Selene had managed to make a deal with the doctors and Calix. She wanted to see Lucas in exchange for her approval to be treated of her brain tumor. Calix could not do anything but to agree on her condition, swallowing his feelings just so Selene could get better.“You knew that the tumor came back,” Calix muttered as they stroll along the hallways of t
“When do you intend to go back?”Lucas furiously unbuttoned his shirt and threw his tie on the floor. He slumped down on the couch and closed his eyes, exhaling deep breaths along with the frustration he had the past few days.“When are you going back?”Lucas rose his head and glared at the priest, who was sitting across him on a couch reading a book. “Why do you care?” he hissed. The priest looked at him through his reading glasses.“Because I feel like it is time for you to go back,” he answered, and returned his focus on the book.“Yeah right, and Zera will find out that I have brought you back to life, and therefore will try to kill you again.” Lucas reached for the glass of alcohol sitting on the table and gulped it all down. He felt the sting on his throat and the sweetness immediately sent him relief.
Lucas snarled under his breath. He launched forward to his Father, his golden coloured eyes turned into bloody red, glowing in flames of anger. His Father noticed his presence as Lucas’ power overwhelmed the entire Domus Malum.“Ah, here comes the prince of hell,” his words spreading in his smirk.Lucas stopped in front of him, his eyes only focused on Selene. Samael’s grip loosens until Selene’s frail body dropped down on the cold floor. Lucas diverted his attention to his Father, which stared back at him in a menacing cold expression.“I didn’t know you were this low to pick such a feeble creature for your entertainment,” Lucas uttered.Samael laughed, his deep voice echoed through the room. “A feeble creature,” he muttered. “Feeble indeed to easily break down your walls, isn’t it?”&nbs
Faye and Calix barged in when they finally managed to get a spare key from one of the nuns in the parish. Both of them rushed inside together with Sister Bella. They saw Lucas and Selene sitting on the floor, staring at each other. When Selene saw them, she smiled and nudged Lucas. He turned around and met all of their glaring eyes, with Sister Bella’s the most intense. She launched on Lucas and held him on his arms, her eyes widened in great fury. “Where is Father Don?!” she yelled. Selene approached them and held Sister Bella on her shoulders. “Sister Bella, please calm down,” she said softly. Lucas just stared at her with his emotionless eyes, not engaging himself to the rage of the nun. “Please, just tell me what happened to him!” Sister Bella’s grip loosened up as she helplessly wailed in front of him, her eyes squeezed shut as tears continuously flowed on her cheeks.
Selene’s eyes flew open, she tried to lift her head and the sudden movement made her dizzy. Faye looked at her by the door, letting out a deep sigh, her eyes carrying worry.“How are you feeling?” she asked.“I’m feeling better,” Selene replied. Faye pushed the button and her bed started to lift upward. Selene just stared at her, her eyes asking an obvious question.“He’s going to be here in a minute, he called me awhile ago.” Selene immediately felt relieved. A smile formed on her lips with the thought of seeing Lucas.“How long have I been sleeping?” she reached for her throat when she felt a sting, her voice sounded hoarse too.“A day and a half. Nothing much happened, don’t worry.”Selene stared at her. “Are you okay? You sound upset.&rdqu
I pushed the record button, and the little red circle started to blink. The timer on the top-left corner of the screen flashed the time elapsing inthe video. Ten seconds… Fifteen… I took a deep sigh and smiled. “Faye…” I muttered with a hoarse voice. “Are you watching this? I hope you do. I hope you somehow checked for your clothes’ pockets before throwing them out in the laundry, or else, I’m doing this for nothing.” I chuckled, finding myself silly. “And I hope your brain cells work to realize that what I’ve written was the new password of your computer. I’m sorry for changing it.” I cleared my dry throat as I began to feel the tears already filling up.I looked at the clock, and ten minutes from now Faye would be back at my hospital room. My hands started to fidget. “His name is Lucas. He is from somewhere that is beyo
Chapter 49“Hey.” Calix nudged Selene on her shoulder. She jumped by his touch and her gaze quickly flew at his worried face. “Are you okay? You seemed tired.”Selene forced a smile. “Yeah, yes I’m sorry what were you saying?”Calix sighed, worry still not leaving his eyes. “I said Rebecca’s here.” Calix turned to his side and pointed at a fine and elegantly looking lady talking with some guests. “I want you to meet her. Will that be fine?”“Goodness Calix, of course I want to meet your fiance! Come on.” Selene pulled Calix on his arm and dragged him closer to Rebecca.“Baby,” Calix called her, Rebecca’s eyes landed on Selene and she immediately excused herself from the guests. “This is Selene.”“Oh my goodness finally!&rd
CHAPTER 48 “Good morning Madam, welcome to Nyhavn Hotel. A room for?” Selene snapped from roaming her eyes and diverted her attention at the receptionist. “One,” she answered and smiled. The receptionist typed on his computer with such noisy keyboard. “Room for single bed overlooking at the canals, am I right?” “Yes. And do you serve breakfast?” she asked, after a long second the receptionist turned to her with a key on his hand. He faked a smile, Selene could tell. “Yes, an exquisite breakfast will be delivered right at your doorstep Madam. This way, please.” The receptionist went out of the bar and guided her to the elevator. Selene was not really expecting anything particular in the hotel, just something that she could stay comfortably, somewhere she could picture herself just like in her dreams. “Thank you,” she muttered, dragging her luggage inside the elevator. “I’ll be waiting for the
A knock came at the door, with excited steps and giddy smile, Selene ran towards it. She stopped for awhile to catch her breath and brush her long brown hair with her fingers. She heaved a deep sigh and twisted the doorknob, pulling the door open.“Do you know where’s the police station? Paparazzi’s been harassing me way too often.” A deafening silence took over after the question. Selene stared at her for a long time.“Pfft.” Selene cannot hold it anymore and burst into laughter. “Oh I’m going to throw you out and feed you to those baffoons!” Selene threw a big hug to Faye. She missed the warmth of her hug that was partially caused by her thick emerald coat and scarf tied neatly around her neck under the heat of May.“You look ridiculous,” Selene commented on her outfit. “You really came here wearing that? C
A sudden loud thunder shook Santuario del Santo Cristo. The detective’s eyes roamed around the parish, meeting familiar gazes among the people. He realized that all of those people that Lucas want to put protection are all here. He gathered them all using a way he doesn’t want to know.“He invited all the potential victims here, while expecting the killer to visit him at the bunker?” the detective asked Sister Bella. They were sitting at one of the benches, patiently waiting for Lucas to follow them inside the church.“He knows what he’s doing. He put everyone here, because the devil knows he cannot enter in God’s home,” Sister Bella answered. “Is he going to be okay?”The detective cannot bear the anguish anymore, he suddenly stood up but the nun was quick to grab his arm. “Where are you going?” she asked.“I’m going
The smell of antiseptic combined with the metallic smell of the equipment made Selene dizzy. She was staring at the ceiling as the nurses push her bed along the hallways to the laboratory. Faye’s head popped to her sight, smiling slightly, she smiled back. They entered a cold room and she was transferred to a flat surface, a huge bright container waiting above her head. She tilted to the side and saw the doctors and nurses along with Faye and Calix, staring at him through the monitoring room. So much people watching her and giving her their full attention as her body started to move towards inside the MRI scanner.Faye lets out an anxious sigh. She looked at Calix who was beside her, also looking all uneasy. “Lucas better be here after her surgery or else I’ll be throwing hands.”Calix snickered. “Throwing hands won’t do anything. And you better let Selene d
“Good morning Ms. Madden, how are you feeling?” Selene’s doctor entered her room with a few nurses behind him. Faye and Calix stood beside her bed as they both helped Selene to sit up.“I’m feeling better, fortunately,” Selene answered with a smile. Her eyes were droopy as she just woke up from her daily needed nap. “Is there anything wrong?”The doctor smiled at her. “Good to hear that, and no. We are actually here to announce that I have received your request.”“What request?” Faye asked, frowning on Selene then on the doctor. The doctor took a deep sigh. “We are going to operate her brain. She made a personal request after I discussed the terms of her current state.”Selene lowered down her gaze. After she decided to be admitted in the hospital, she onl
CHAPTER 43Sister Bella run her way down the bunker, her loud beating heart overshadowed her faint footsteps as she sauntered down the stairs, her eyes roaming around, wary. She stepped inside dragging her heavy bagon her shoulder, carrying crucifixes and countless bottles of holy water. She heaved a deep sigh and felt her lips tremble a bit.She made careful and calculatedmoves on her way to the lounge, slowly pulling the zipper of her bag open. Her eyes darted to the door of Lucas’ office but she quickly diverted her attention, fighting the urge to go inside. When she finally saw the Tree of Death, rotten and lifeless, she closed her eyes and did her ritual. This is where she begins. The detective was catching his breath as he rushed down the station, his keys dangling on his fingers.“I need more b
Lucas felt a sudden jolt on his chest and flew himself right up. He gasped for air but his lungs felt shallow, nothing on his body was pulsating with life. His eyes widened with agitation as his pupils constrict trying to see from the darkness. He pulled himself up after letting the dizziness subside. A familiar cold pierced his skin but it no longer hurt him, he can only feel the scentless fog around, brushing against his pale skin. He exhaled slowly as he took his first step. His hands winging in the air, trying to find something concrete that could guide him. Finally as he took big strides to what seems like a place empty in all matter, his hand touched a rough barrier, he let his hands wander on it until he felta knob. Lucas closed his eyes, readying himself to enter his home. He twisted the doorknob and pulled the door open.A room, with a fire inside a furnace on the side, countless bottle of alcohol o
