And someone was holding them hostage.

Sage stared in the mist and saw someone holding Landon’s leash.

Landon went obediently, head down, a good and docile victim. Up the five battered steps, across the narrow porch to the front door, and pushed it shut. They stopped. Landon did not look up. He did not look at their captor.

"Through the door," the captor said in his soft command voice.

Cherryl trembled.

Landon groaned.
