That morning, Cherryl’s eyes snapped open.

That damn rooster!

Every morning, the little beast insisted on waking up the whole farm.

Cherryl pushed herself out of bed with a groan, gathered up some clothes, and stumbled down the hall to the bathroom. Being alone and with only the animal farm as a companion was never easy, but she didn't have a choice but to wait and hope Landon was still alive to fulfill his promises.

She sighed.

Even though the damn rooster had no respect for her—the creature that fed and sheltered him—she loved that old rooster. Despite his penchant for attacking her, determined to peck her eyes out, she fed the damn thing extra food every day in an effort to win over his affect
