The door of the ward swung open, and the chief stepped out. Eyeing me with his piercing gaze, he stated, “You are one lucky b*****d! In don’t know what you have done to deserve that girl, but you better take care of her.” He pointed his forefingers towards his eyes and then at me. “I will be keeping a close watch on you.”
“Can I see her now?”
“Hmm… sure… We are done…” The chief’s gaze lingered on me for a moment, his eyebrows furrowed and then he walked away, shaking his head.
Melinda scrambled out of the bed the moment I entered the ward. Pulling out the patch on her wrist recklessly, she rushed over and held me by my collar. “How could you Keith? How could you hide such a huge fact from me?”
My lips parted, but no words left them. I could give a hundred excuses, but the fact was that I had hurt her. I was the reason there were tears in her eyes.

Melinda’s POV‘I never want to see your face again, Keith Rivers. I am better off without you.’ The words I spoke to Keith weighed heavily on my conscience. Though I was angry, I shouldn’t have used such harsh words.Biting my lower lip, I projected my thoughts towards Corel, ‘He won’t take my words seriously, would he?’Corel remained silent for a long moment before sighing, ‘Given Keith’s personality, it is totally possible. Didn’t you see his eyes when you said those words? He looked so hurt and angry.’“What am I going to do now, Corel?” I muttered, tearing my hair. “What if he refuses to talk to me again?”‘What is the point of agonising over it? If you are really feeling guilty, call him and apologise.’A long, deep sigh escaped my lips. Corel was right. The best course of action was to talk to Keith. Drawing in a long breath, I grabbed my phone and dialled his number.Beep… beep…beep…beep… The call disconnected without even ringing. My eyebrows settled with a deep frown as I di
Keith’s POV “Alpha Bridgeton,” I flashed him a tight-lipped smile. “What a pleasant surprise.” My jaws clenched with the effort of trying to restrain my temper. “I didn’t expect you to receive me at the airport given your busy schedule.”“I had to come.” His lips spread into a wide grin as he clapped my back. “After all, we have a magical pact binding us in an inseparable bond.”“And what is with you calling Alpha Bridgeton?” He said, holding the door open for me. “Just call me Uncle Alex as usual.”To the bystanders, we might have looked like close kins having a light-hearted conversation when in fact he was warning me. It was his way of telling me that I couldn’t escape my fate.Even his gesture of receiving me and holding the car door open for me was his way of showing that I was practically his prisoner till I was in Queensland. I had no choice but to play along, at least until I had found a way out.Getting into the car, I tried to say in a sincere tone, “Thank you so much for
Melinda’s POV “Give me your hand, Melinda.” Kain said as he walked inside and sat on the chair placed opposite to my bed.“What?” I blurted out, a bit startled by his sudden request.“Why do you look like you have seen a ghost?” His lips curled into a sweet smile as he reached over; lifting my right hand and cocooning between his, “I am just asking you for your hand, not your heart.”“Umm… It’s just that… I am not comfortable.” I stuttered, trying to pull my hand back. Why couldn’t Kramen and Kain understand? Why couldn’t they just stay away? All these little actions; everything we said or did together was going to haunt me my entire life; no matter whom I chose.I was trying my best to keep myself from falling deeper into the spiral of emotions but these two were making it more and more difficult. He held on to my hand
Keith’s POV “Don’t tell me that bastard has still not woken up.” Houston’s voice sounded and the next moment, splash! Cool liquid struck my face with great force. My fingers clenched behind my back and I held my breath; hoping that they wouldn’t notice I was awake. “What is wrong with him?” My cheeks were pinched together and my face lifted. “I have seen him undergo rigorous training. He is not the kind to be knocked out for long by something as lame as hypnotics.” “Do you think he is pretending to be unconscious, Houston?” Another voice sounded; this one slightly more hoarse that Houston. “We will find out in a moment.” There was a metallic click, and something cold pressed against my right cheek. ‘Damn Keith! Is it what I am thinking it is?’ Jake’s anxious voice seeped into my head. ‘Yes, it is a blade, more precisely a silver blade. Now, keep quite and help me stay frozen.’ With that I blocked his tho
Keith’s POV I groaned as a sudden jerk made me lunge forward. My head came in contact with something soft and I was pulled back again.“Careful! Are you trying to kill him?” A furious voice sounded to my left as my head was rested against something firm but warm. “Drive slower….”A groan left my lips; my brain grappling to process what was going on. What had happened before I fainted? Why was I in a car?The memories of being hit in the head and then being saved by a woman slammed into my head. With a soft groan, I cracked open my eyes; blinking as the bright light blinded me.“You are awake…” Something soft caressed my hair. “How are you feeling? Does it hurt too much?”It took a moment for it to register in that I was resting against the shoulder of a girl. When it did, I pulled away immediately; moaning as a sharp stab seared through my forehead, t
Melinda’s POV “Kramen, you are finally back.” I rushed over to greet him at the doorstep. “While you were gone, Keith had called. He is totally fine.”“Is he now?” Kramen snapped, shrugging his shoulders with a nonchalant expression. “I thought we had finally gotten rid of him.”“Kramen! Don’t say things just to hurt me.” I grabbed his shoulders and looked into his eyes. “You know you don’t mean that. If something had really happened to him, you would be the one who regrets the most.”“You care only about him, don’t you?” He shrugged off my hands from his shoulders and snorted. “Kain and I are just something to be used and discarded, right?”“It is not like that, Kramen.” I cupped his face. “I swear, I care about all three of you equally.”“If that is the case, I am sure you won’t mind me.” He grabbed my shoulders and pushed me against the wall. Placing both his arms on either side of me, he bit my lower lip and then started kissing me roughly.“Kramen!” I shouted; pushing him away.
Keith’s POV “Here, let me help you.” Veronika said as she climbed onto the bed and started unwrapping the bandage around my head. “Did you think about my offer?”“No doubt it is a great proposal, but I would hate to implicate the Gibson Pack.”“That is not for you to decide,” Veronika stated, a hint of annoyance seeping into her voice. “I have already asked my father. He has agreed to help you.”“Still…. Ouch!” I winced as she pressed the region next to my wound a bit too harshly.“If you don’t agree, I will ask my men to bundle you up and throw you back in that dungeon.” She snapped, narrowing her eyes at me. “Are you still going to reject my offer?”“No…” I shook my head; struggling to keep my tone serious despite her animated expression. “I wouldn’t dare.”“Good….” Her lips curled into a smile as she applied the medicine given by the healer. “I have to say that the ointment is effective. Your wound will be fully healed in three days. Why don’t you stay in this apartment until then
Keith’s POV ‘Why do you think Veronika is being so helpful?’ Jake’s voice sounded in my head. ‘Don’t you think she must have some ulterior objective?’‘We can’t deny the possibility.’ The congestion in my chest eased as I let out a gust of forceful breath. ‘Everything is working out a bit too well.’‘So what are you going to do now?’‘I will have to come up with a backup plan just in case….’“Keith…” Veronika’s cheerful voice sounded, breaking the flow of our conversation. Walking into my room with graceful steps, She held out a glass of milk, “I have added some honey and saffron to the milk. Why don’t you drink it and take a short nap before leaving for the Draken’s Pack?’“I don’t think I should waste my time sleeping. However, I will drink the milk,” I s
